R18: I have a 2006 Civic with 398k km (248k miles) with an R18A1. Owned since new. Body rust will end its life after another couple of years of daily use. The engine, however, is perfect. It burns about 2 litres (quarts) of oil per oil change. It needs an oil top up mid oil change interval. Not a problem.

I'm going to look for a used HRV (hopefully manually) to replace the old Civic specifically because the HRV has the same engine.

I spent the last two months of the extended warranty period driving it around near the red-line trying to crack it, thinking it was now or never for the warranty 🤣. It survivved. After that it survived four kids learning to drive manual with it. Countless abrupt lurching stalls, horribly balanced starts, and whatever abuse they hurled at it when I wasn't there. This is a one owner car that has been meticulously maintained since it was purchased by the previous owner back in 2005. The car has a clean title with no accidents and best of all no rust, which is extremely rare for a car that has spent its entire lifetime in the northeast! I love it! IMO F20C/F22C from S2000 might be one of the most reliable engines ever put in a performance car. Overall extremely high reputation for an engine that gets rung out to 9k and 8k RPMs, respectively, and are routinely driven well past 100k miles with few issues if properly maintained.

I had an f22c myself and there’s a bunch of them with over 200k. Great engines if well maintained. Overall probably one of the most iconic engines 💯

They were not able to diagnose since the car started perfectly once it arrived. It's totally random and she can't replicate but causing a lot of stress as she is afraid the car will leave her stranded. Any suggestions? It's likely related to the starter or possibly the ignition? One can make an argument that all these would outlast the k24 with the same exact conditions and maintenance routines. The k24 will eventually lead to a stretched chain that will eventually jump timing. I have yet to see any of these jump timing. Love me a well maintained k24 tho and definitely more peppy as well. That’s the big deal breakers with the l15 and r18, lack of power big time.

I never seen the L15 blow out a spark plug... but I've seen them loose and come in misfiring due to the coil being burnt up by blow by. I forgot about those engines. They are very solid, simple engines. The DI version isn't awful. We have a few getting up to 200k without major issues, but yeah I see some carbon and injector issues. Mostly agree with the list. I like the 2.0t, 2.0 NA, and J35Y6 if I was to include currently produced engines. Just don't regularly see issues with any of those engines.
Finally had an issue on the new Pilots. Tailgate harness getting pinched in the tailgate seal area. Customer complaint of power tailgate inop. Damaged the harness and seal. Waiting on parts to repair but found it weird. Usually don't see that issue on Hondas.
