As a Honda tech I must say this was wonderful. There's a reason the K series has been around for over 20 years, it's the chevy LS of the import world. It's very modular, robust, and modifiable. Plus working on them is significantly easier than a B-series because of the cylinder head design. All comes down to great cylinder head design, more airflow= more power.
Was gna say the same. I have JDM h22a swapped car and stock r18 civic .. I dnt even own a k series and I fxxkn loved every minute of this video. Bro your the man. Make videos for everything your info is spot on and I love it !
Back when I used to have one of my first S13 240sx’s in 2007 me and my friend would sometimes trade cars for the day. He had a CLEAN RSX Type S that was still fresh at the time. I used to LOVE driving that car around and taking it into the high rpm’s. VTEC cracked so loudly and it was such a blast. Fast forward to 2016 my friend, Honda and overall JDM head, would pass away. Now the year is 2022 and I own my first Honda EVER. A 1992 Civic SI hatch. I’m planning on going K20A because it’s the first K series I loved so much. I wish so much I could show him my current car and take him for a drive. My build is inspired by him.
Feel ya man. I had a similar situation. Flew 1000's of miles to grab a car a friend recommended from the classifieds (a '95 SC VR6 Jetta). We talked about it for months. Never told him I pulled the trigger, and was just gonna park next to him at work, so when he came out, he'd see it, surprise style. He passed the day before I got the car back. This was 2006. Coincidentally, he never seemed too excited about my '92 Si tho, that I've had since 2002. (Captiva Blue, AC intact, OG D16Z6 w/ 303k). Cars come and go, but it's a lot easier to get another car than a good friend.
Don’t let this distract you from the fact that Hector is going to be running three Honda civics with spoon engines, and on top of that, he just went into Harry’s and bought three t66 turbos with nos, and a motec exhaust system.
The K24 was a remarkable powerplant. I've been driving an 01 Accord F23A1 for twenty years now and it's a terrific car. My wife had an 06 Accord K24 for several years, and that car drove me NUTS. It was a bigger, heavier car, with a higher displacement engine that made more horsepower and more torque than mine and was both quicker and faster, yet consistently gave 2-3mpg better even driven hard. Made no sense at all, but there it was. :D :D
I love my 07 k24. I had the 09 k24 and it was definitely an upgrade from the older car and surprisingly sharp around turns. Was definitely sad about that car for years it even led me to getting the 07. But this one is so nimble for a midsized car that you barely notice that's what you are in. Also crazy to think I've actually had it longer than the 09.
I just went for a ride in my friend's K24 swapped BRZ. Car should have come like that from the factory. He doesn't have any crazy mods, just the normal package from Kswap and he is making 224 RWHP. Oh and it sounds amazing.
@Chad Klein that is at the crank. He is making that at the wheels. Also, the 2.4 still has the same oil starvation issues on the track that the old 2.0 did. This engine has a way better power band and he isn't even done yet.
@Chad Klein it makes that with the Kpower engine swap kit. There really isn’t any special power adders. It’s a K24A2 I think. 5.0 and B58s are cool and all, but I still like four cylinders in certain cars. The Supra wasn’t out when I bought mine and I have already had 3 Mustangs. I’m still on an FA20.
The Z7 does come with high compression pistons though so throwing a K20Z3 head on it and a type S oil pump will have you pushing ~260-270whp with lots of bottom end torque and 9000rpm
@@1mikewalsh it's fine they been racing 300+ front whp in Britain, Japan, continental Europe, and Asia overall since the early 90s. Won't be ideal but with the correct setup they can be real fast and stable
Z7 is also greatly designed for boost and is still a top competitor. my z7 is only intake and DP and im door to door with 5.7 hemis. but I used to have a fbo e85 ported manifold K24A DC5 and that was fairly fast for a basic all motor setup.
One of the most interesting things to me about it, is the fact that the 2jz is also perfectly square with a bore of 86mm, and a stroke of 86mm . Great info, great knowledge!
@@unusualelectronic So did the Nissan SR20DE, SR20DET, Toyota 3S-FE, 3S-GE and 3S-GTE. They share something in common, all 2 liter engines. 2JZ is like an extension of the 3S.
They are a big and heavy engine though. Would not say they are the best, they still use rockers instead of buckets. Good for peak power, not continuous power.
@@chippyjohn1 Does matter, with very little work. You can get 700whp out of a K20A2/K24A2 out of the stock bottom end, with a single turbo. Put that combination in a 2000-2500lb Civic. For a fraction of building anything else. It even cost less to build a Honda/Acura then it does to build a GM LS V8 parts cost and mod for mod.
As a big honda guy I gotta say this video was very well done. But I need to say that on the k20z3 you can rev to 8600 reliably (stock rev limiter is literally 8300) on the stock oil pump.
I am not sure this is true in endurance race applications. Rare case I know, but might explain why a lower redline was stated. There is a huge difference between street reliable and being between 6000 and 8600 for a few hours in hot weather with no risk to the valve train.
As a Honda mechanical engineer I will say CHEERS sir! You got everything right, I mean all of what you said, with not one error. I was very entertained by your presentation and energy. Thank you!
Do you work at Ohio manufacturing? What is it like? I’m actually trying to get internship. I’m mechanical engineering student at University of Houston. I’m a big Honda guy as well. I’ve been driving my RSX 5 speed for 7 years. I fell in love with it.
@@twistedmembrane6988 It's the same engine as the 04-05 tsx engine. Same cams ect from what I've read. It's a 200hp engine with vtec on exhaust and intake sides, true vtec.
The K20A3 does have actual VTEC. The valve lift on the intake side is asymmetrical until VTEC engagement, which promotes high swirl (and more torque) at low RPM, while not choking the engine in the midrange. This is still VTEC, even if it operates differently than the VTEC found on the B series (and more like you'd find on some D series). It's also worth noting that "K20A" can refer to what is effectively the K20A3 in Japanese vehicles, as well as what's found in the RSX Type S or the Type R. They simply did not stamp the blocks the same as those destined for other markets. You have to look at the code on the head (or under the valve cover) to determine which engine a K20A is.
Where is this code on the head or under the valve cover? I'm going to look at a K20A stamped block tomorrow. Would the JDM version of the 'K20A3" have the single exhaust lobe where as the A2 has 3 lobes on both cam shafts? I only want to buy the engine if its the A2 model.
@@rsndriedrain2752 The code is stamped in a few places. I believe you should find one above the header, right in the center. The "K20A3" version will have a single exhaust lobe. All of the high performance variants will have 3 lobes on both camshafts, though that doesn't tell you if it''s an A2 or Z1 or Z3 or Type R equivalent.
"Actually VTEC" refers to the high lift cam timing change, not the "economy" intake valve deactivation, by the Honda community. This engine DOES NOT have VTEC that changes valve lift.
@@begetti Honda calls it VTEC. It's still Variable (Timing & Lift) Electronic Control. The intake valves are still having their timing and lift varied (even if you don't understand how it works). If we're not going to trust Honda to know what their own technology is called, who gets to decide?
Agreed I recently did a swap for my 03 Honda Civic ex. I went from a D17A2 VTEC motor to the K20A3 i-VTEC motor because I still wanted to have an eco daily. There is a huge difference not only in power/torque from the motor but in the VTEC cams. It may not be like my friends type s, however when it locks in you can absolutely feel and hear the difference.
Want turbo power? K series, want NA power? K series, want supercharged power? K series, want nitro power? K series. K series is always the answer. I own a supercharged honda stepwagon with a k20a.
This man is big brain as FUCC. And his passion for engines is fucking contagious.... And I *already* have been an enginehead since I was a wee kid. Never thought *I* would have my dedication to the hobby/community challenged by this guy. But man is it refreshing. Please give me more. This is the most perfect format on the entire platform. *Instantly subbed*
Good video, I had a 1.6 dohc 1999 Honda SI coupe. But I flooded the motor with a cold air intake during a flood. Swapped a stroked 1.8L, skunk 2 cams, qauife differential LS transmission, lighten flywheel and crower rods! That motor was so torque, I barely had to reach v-tec! Those were the days!
I've got the k24z3 in my 2gen Tsx, 201 HP stock. Its now on the Ktuner with bolt ons, no turbo yet and makes great HP. I need to ditch the paddle shifting auto and go manual so that the trans dont blow. Great video keep'em coming.
I've got the same engine in my 2013 TSX, bone stock right now. Been trying to figure what's better power wise. Drop another built K-series in it or Bolt ons & a Supercharge the Z3?🤔?
I have a 2004 Acura TSX with the 6spd transmission. That 6spd transmission is really smooth as opposed to my RHD S14 SR20DET's transmission in my opinion. I trust my K24 engine more then my SR20DET engine in regards to reliability. Where as my S13 vert has the stock KA24DE with an auto transmission.
I'm always amazed at how clearly you explain the subject and break it down into such detail. You make it very easy to follow and understand. Thanks and keep up the good work 👏
After having owned every popular engine out there, I can't deny that the K series is my favorite. It's so light, so reliable, sounds so incredible for a 4 banger, and can handle anything you throw at it. And the aftermarket support is so much cheaper and easier than just about anything. It's a jewel of an engine.
Would love to see an in-depth analysis on the differences between superchargers/turbos (ie what would work better in certain applications) and how they work on this channel. One of my new favorite channels so keep up the good work!
You my good man just earned a new subscriber. You seriously just answered every single question I had about what K20/24 variant to go with for my build. Bravo.
7:19 "Usually the fault of the previous owner". Amen to that and so glad someone else see Honda engines the way I do. Finally someone that can see through the misinformation and disinformation about Honda engines. These engines (B, D, F, H, K series) are so tough the only way to kill them would be when the owner neglects or abuses them. It is next to impossible to kill these engines daily driving them (on public roads). Near guarantee to lose your licence, crash or have your car impounded before you can kill these engines on a normal road use no matter how long or hard you drive them.
I love how Honda’s K20 has an innate 86mm bore and stroke built in and is legendary; whilst when Subaru tried to build the 2012 BRZ/GR86/FRS engine to Toyota’s specifications of an 86mm bore and stroke (in order to pay homage to the AE86 Corolla) their engine became infamous for falling flat on its face with a torque dip and reliability issues when modified. It’s almost as if Toyota should have just paid Honda (exorbitantly) for their K20 engine out the gate to put into their new rwd Toyota Corolla AE86 revival
Wow man, I just discovered you on my feed and I love the way you go over everything. You take your time to research and explain in detail without going off topic. Love your work and you have earned my respect and subscription. 🙏💯
Hey man don't forget about the K23 in the first generation Acura RDX! The red-headed stepchild of the k-series that was the only one that came turbocharged STOCK. Downside is at the engine block doesn't mate to anything other than the Acura trans BUT the head is swappable with any K-series AND water cooling ports for the intake with a turbo that sits on top/back of the engine. 2.3L with the same bore as the K20 and if you can get a hold of that RDX engine you get piston rods OEM Honda that are 30% beefier than the TSX and can handle more torque than any of the other K-series (because it was turbo designed) Salvage a first gen RDX and you get: A turbo RDX injectors Beefiest OEM piston rods you can get. K-series head, with turbo ready exhaust and water cooled intake manifold. I'm doing an RDX Frankenstein build right now with my k24 in my Honda Element. Everything just swaps in and I bought the engine with the turbo for only $500 bucks with only 120,000 miles. Want a budget k-series turbo build? Go that route.
K24Z7 is also on the Acura ILX, available up to 2022. There is also the K24W series that appeared starting from 2013 on Accords, CR-Vs and Odysseys. There is also the K24W7 which powered the Acura TLX. There is the K24V5 that's used on the Asian market CR-V; the K24W5 used with the international Odyssey and the K24W used on the JDM Odyssey; the K24Z6 on 2012-14 CR-V; the K24W9 that was used on the USDM CR-V before the 1.5 liter turbo took over.
Ah i want that H-series engine pic in real high detail for my desktop, I had the 200hp H22 swapped into a '92 prelude with a short ratio gearbox and lsd shipped from japan. It was my favorite car. I vtec'd it daily right up to 250k miles before I donated it to someone to fix it up, it was rough by then, and someone in need got the coolest car ever. That thing was so easy to drive on the limit, once a tiny bit of wheel screeching set it, it would about to understeer and you were at the max, so simple, smooth as butter shifts (another reason it was donated, the shifter had a hard time getting into 1st and 2nd after i retired it, getting a 350Z instead). That car was a LONG part of my life, from my early 20's through college, it's in my wedding photos all painted up. Thanks honda, thanks 337 speed for the memberberries. Edit, I tried a K20A2 in the rsx type and even though it should have been roughly the same, there was no kick, no hard crossover for the vtec, with ivtec, that let you know it was working, also i felt cramped in that car and wind blew me around like nothing else. I also test drove an s2000 before getting the Z, that was some serious fun, but I was ready for something with better low-end. Also it had the FULLY red interior and I don't think I could've lived with that very long either.
My element makes 200 HP thanks to swapping out the pistons and rods plus slapping on a K24A2 cylinder head. The extra top end power helps out a lot when trying to merge onto any major highway due it’s heavy weight.
@@brenreidy8763 Yeah its set up, but he never said hes got that going on though. literally for that of pistons and head he could have got a used cleaned up z7
K24 bottom swap and supercharger if you want more efficient and reliable power and nothing super crazy between 350-450whp range is great for a daily sleeper!
@@jaebee9805 I had the chance to do the k24 k20 but at the time I didn't have enough money so I just swapped my blown motor with a newer k20. I think I'll just supercharge it with the merc racing kit if anything

Grew up around fast and furious days when everyone had Hondas civics early 2001 and I was the underdog guy with a 1991 Sentra se-r with a NA sr20de that I swapped out for a Neo VVL SR20VE which was very similar to Hondas vtec because it also had a cam phase lift. I was always trying to embarrass all those b series out there but still much respect to these motors. Honda is the king of 4 cylinders.
My room mate had a del sol d series 1.6 built with a turbo And it embarrassed all kinds of cars. If I had to choose I would go for the 1.6 just because 2.0/2.4 gets like half the fuel economy.
@@fastinradfordable I had a buddy who also had a del sol. Now keep in mind these are early 2000’s we’re bodykits, underglows and obnoxious wings, loud big exhausts we’re a thing. But my friend took it to the next level. His front was 350z and his rear was a r34 GTR and wasn’t half bad looking actually. It was all show but no go tho since It was a stock 1.6 lol
Awesome, I had the same exact setup in a 92 SE-R (SR20VE VVL) and for the same reasons, wanted something different, a true underdog car, and wanted to stomp on Hondas and others, I got to a 12.8 NA with slicks. Still one of my favorite cars, matching the excitement I get out of my S2000
@@revhappyrs2k yeah man I miss the damn thing. I ended up selling it to a 17 year old kid years ago. I had plans on putting ITB’s and getting it to rev higher by putting in JWT camshafts but the release of the ser-r spec v at the time made me wanting a newer car and a huge downgrade since those QR25de are good engines but not as rev happy and lacks top end. Torquey though since then I’ve been sticking with Nissans. Even owned two z32 twin turbos that were fun but a headache to deal with. I once had a 450whp 300zx but it weigh like a boat and the lack of mods support and engine space back then made me change platforms to a 350z, g37 coupes and sedans and now I own a 2016 q60rs400
Oh my goodness what a video but there's a couple small K24 details i feel like might be wrong. unless my research i've done in the past is wrong. I think the K24A2 found in the 04-08 TSX didn't have oil squirters but did have true Vtec on intake and exhaust. you forgot to mention the K24Z3 found in the 09-13 TSX, cousin to the similar year Si, it does have oil squirters and true Vtec on one intake. while the exhaust cam doesn't have variable valve lift, it does have cam phasing up to 45 degrees. same single exhaust "manifold" as the K24Z7. this makes them super ready for turbos and the K24Z3 is cheaper than the growing in price K24A2. Again my research could be wrong but you still made a great video my man 👍🏻
watched this entire thing, was already planning on buying an imported k20A and looks like im going to have to follow through since im not too sure about trusting junkyard motors especially since most in the yard doesnt have vtec on both intake and exhaust side thats so sad
I would suggest you go ahead and go for the K24A (JDM) or K24A2 (USDM TSX). The extra displacement is worth it. Be careful though because some of those JDM K24A are the shitty half vtec. I have a 525hp B18 and I'm gonna turn it up a bit more, but if I had it to do again I'd go K24.
I-VTEC benefits from the "v-tec killer" swap with the bigger cam lobes and rockers from the exhaust side on both cams. Not as good as traditional Vtec but is an option for budget builds or people exploring that route. K20A3 are good for budget boost
Personally I wouldn't do vtec killers on a street car. Unless I was a kid and not concerned about drivability. You can definitely make power with them though. But the A3 has weak rods in oem trim. Won't take as much abuse as the more performance oriented variants.
@@leonardwashington6456 many JDM k24a are full vtec bro. I have one that came from a JDM Accord euro R. Anyway, I swapped my Z1 head into because I thought it'd make more power. Kind of a pointless swap in retrospect
When you say accessories on right vs left, I feel it's important to educate new persons to Hondas what that means. One engine spins counter clockwise, and one spins clockwise.
I bought a Honda Element back in 2004 and that was my introduction to the K series and VTEC, although it only had the economy version of the engine. I lusted after the K24A2. Fast forward to a month ago and I finally have it. Found a clean 2006 Acura TSX with low miles and it's a blast to finally have the performance version of the K24.
@@chaztitan6457 That’s because of the compression ratio in the engine. That engine was built to have the biggest turbo posible and hold the power. Both are great engines the 4g63 just has the the record for the highest horsepower per cylinder of ANY engine.
@@alexvazquez3607 And what is this record just out of curiosity? I'm curious because if it's around the 2000 range, then look up Speedfactory civic with a 2000hp b-series honda engine. Also top fuel dragsters make just shy for 2000hp per cylinder.
@@alexvazquez3607 4g63 is a 2.0L motor with like 200hp (stock in the cars) the Focus RS has a 2.3L motor with 350HP, i think that's more impressive for just having 300cc more comparatively ofcourse these Jap motors are probably much more reliable tho, but still, +300cc and +150HP, thats about 88hp per cylinder in such a small engine
I love my k20z3 in my fg2 civic si. I got the car back in 2013 with 42,000 miles on it. I put a AEM intake, K turn header, skunk 2 full cat back and a IBR high flow cat. In 2017 Honda released the type R in America Love to have a type R but the dealerships put a 10-15,000 mark up over MSRP. Honda if you want to know why the market for the type R fall so fast and the 2020 yellow Special edition was the only type R that sold in 2020. All I'm saying is that 10-15,000 over the MSRP you can buy the mods to eat any type R. Start selling your cars straight to the buyer. Don't even drop ship to a dealership at all. The ones in my location are starting to keep people cars and ask for ransom. Honda fan since 1995. Ps I hate the Fast and Furious franchise. All it did was made parts and cars more expensive.
That last statement is unequivocally false. While it may have originally bumped car and part prices up, f&f also introduced an entire generation to the world of cars and modding, and that extra interest meant a lot of people grew up to work in the auto industry in one way or another. The more interest a scene has, the more competition business' within that scene have, and the more competition business' have, the more time and effort goes into making parts affordable.. Progress and innovation bring with them the r&d that leads to cheaper parts over time. You can get a set of wheels today that are as good as a set made in '95 for much cheaper, suspension parts have become more advanced but stayed relatively similar in cost in the same time-span, tyre technology is exponentially better than it was back then and you can now get sport/track focussed tyres for cheaper than you used to be able to get them.. Inflation is also a thing, which I think is probably a factor in what you're talking about.. Inflation has absolutely 0 to do with fast and the furious tho....

Amazing video, voice and attitude towards the information was enjoyable. It's quite a bit of info most of which a lot of the ones that have live the birth of the K have gotten to know and being able to properly squeeze all of this in 8 minutes was amazing. I feel like the F20/22C would have offered some great comparisons as well as it was the last attempt and truly the first attempt at 2.0 + chain drive incorporating the bitter sweet FRM + high comp. Ultimately landing with the addition of VCT which pushed tech into older minds. Honda has now moved into forced induction where most of this momentum is focused on turbo efficiency.
Thank you so much for this breakdown of the k series motors. I'm in the process of looking into k series swapping my 8th generation civic. This helped out a lot!

Great video, covering all the variations of the engines. Great resource of info for people just getting into the Honda game. I'm thinking about it simply for the availability of the engines and the insane aftermarket support. Instead of building up my ST retaining the Ford Powertrain, a K-swap might be the ticket. Ya ya its blasphemy but who cares. A good engine is a good engine. If I can build one, maintain one and modify one as easy as possible it's a no Brainer decision. Now to research if it's possible. Wrong about the Z3/A2/A rpm limit, sorry to be that guy. But its absolutely safe and reliable at its stock redline 8450, whatchu sayin "typically below 8000 for reliability" lmao. Z3/Z1:8450 A2/A:9000
I love your videos but id like to point out the k20z3 balance shaft in the oil pump doesnt cavitate until about 8900 to 9000 rpm* not 8000 rpm. Fuel cutoff is at 8300 rpm and flashpro raises it to 8600 stock so the oil pump doesnt cavitate at 8000 rpm. The valve springs and retainers also dont float until about 9000 rpm either.
I have a 13 ILX with the k24z7 manual right now as my daily. I love it peppy, rare, and reliable. Iv had a RSX type S and a Integra type R in the past.
Ehhhh more like the LS for import guys that can't afford a VQ

Comprehensive, well presented, carefully articulated information. Absolute S-Tier. thank you sir.
My build is inspired by him.
i bet he’d be proud

That's awesome. Thanks for sharing that man
Feel ya man.
Damn bro RIP Honda Heaven 🙏🏾
Don’t let this distract you from the fact that Hector is going to be running three Honda civics with spoon engines, and on top of that, he just went into Harry’s and bought three t66 turbos with nos, and a motec exhaust system.
😂😂
Hector knew what Hondas needed before they got super popular 😅

@Nate My FR-S made that at the wheel when I was NA. It was still super slow in a straight line.
Engine swap for +20hp or -4hp depending on year. Why?
@@keilmillerjr9701 FA20's are notorious for oil starvation and grenading themselves on the track. They also like to blow up when boosted.
The Z7 does come with high compression pistons though so throwing a K20Z3 head on it and a type S oil pump will have you pushing ~260-270whp with lots of bottom end torque and 9000rpm

Who cares about 2jz? So many other engines have square design.
I've been saying it for years. Honda does infact build the best 4cyl engines ever made.
@@untoldguitarist At half the cylinders it would be cheaper. 515WKW would not be reliable.

As a big honda guy I gotta say this video was very well done. But I need to say that on the k20z3 you can rev to 8600 reliably (stock rev limiter is literally 8300) on the stock oil pump.
Yup as a owner of a fd2 I can tell you that since I got my car tuned my redline has been 8600 with a stick oil pump
I am not sure this is true in endurance race applications. Rare case I know, but might explain why a lower redline was stated. There is a huge difference between street reliable and being between 6000 and 8600 for a few hours in hot weather with no risk to the valve train.

It is next to impossible to kill these engines daily driving them (on public roads).

I think Toyota owns part of Subaru that’s why Toyota went with them
The torque dip is tune related

The K20A is an absolute beast of a motor, best of all the K series I’ve ever owned.
2.3L with the same bore as the K20 and if you can get a hold of that RDX engine you get piston rods OEM Honda that are 30% beefier than the TSX and can handle more torque than any of the other K-series (because it was turbo designed)
Salvage a first gen RDX and you get:
A turbo
RDX injectors
Beefiest OEM piston rods you can get.

Love to have a type R but the dealerships put a 10-15,000 mark up over MSRP.
@@4bidn1 lmfao 🤣 I had a great dad that was born in the 50's so I didn't have to Learn how to work on a car from a movie.
Oh forgot most Millennials come from a single family so you need the movies to show you 🙄.
This is text book way you will pay 57,000 for a $30,000 car, before F&F you can get a AE86 here it's called a GTS in good condition for $2000.
Tires, not tyrs
Wow I think you probably spent more time playing GT sport or 7 to much. Get your self in the world.
How many engines did you build 🤔 🤣? Me 6 D16 Mini me, a B16a, B18C, H22a on and on.
Here kid I can save you from spending money instead of doing a hole engine swap just buy the JDM ECM for what motor you have. Instead of a motor
I’m k24 swapping a 7th gen sedan and this video makes me happy
One of the best description video I've seen on honda motors...
Wish there was a video like this for all B,D,H,F,K series motors
This channel is great! So glad I found it!
Missing tinkering my 1999 GSR Sedan after watching this. Hope I'll have time to tinker on a K24 in the future.
IMO the best engines ever created by a man..
Yup
I own an 07’ Accord with a k24a8, love the car.
Heck yeah! Maybe the LBZ Duramax Engine next?
This has so much detail, In my opinion this guy explains everything better than donut media! Great job 👍
Why not also cover the factory turbo K20C1 on FK2 and FK8, they are by far the most tech-packed and powerful K engine from Honda.
You gotta review the Honda J-Series.. those are the real BBCs of the Honda world. These J series are slept on big time.
@ 0:38 what wheels are those?
Thank you so much for this breakdown of the k series motors. I'm in the process of looking into k series swapping my 8th generation civic. This helped out a lot!
Loving these engine breakdowns, keep it up man!
Best 4 Cyl Engine ever manufactured just a superb piece of design.
Good work bro loving the content!! I would love to see you go through each ej engine( specs, power, reliability, tuning potential, etc.) Just an idea. Keep grinding brodie💯
My 2009 Civic Si Sedan is at 202,000 miles. Engine have given me zero issues at stuck, but is starting to burn a decent amount of oil.
Wow!!
This man has found a nitch....
Another excellent presentation 👏🏼 👌
The ambient background and enthusiastic and tightly focused delivery makes this feel like I've died and gone to Honda heaven.
Everybody talking about K20 K24 , but no one talks about 2ZZ-GE from Toyota.
2zzge has oil pump issues timing chain out and sump problems but it’s heavy on oil burning issues then company improve this as an integral part in caldina and mark2 blitz wth 3sgte setup
I'm an absolute rookie with k motors and damn, that summed it up nicely!!
could you do a video on the k20c1 and k20c4 engines found in the 10th gen type r and accord 2.0 sport
I would also like to see a video on this as a current Type R owner! 😁
@Justin S. same lol. I have a 2022 accord sport 10speed.
Ariel Atom of North America used a tuned K24Z7 240hp on their Nomad and Atom 3. A turbo version of the Ariel Atom 3S makes 365hp, later a final version Atom 3RS makes 425hp.
Yeah the k24z7 rips actually
Great video, covering all the variations of the engines. Great resource of info for people just getting into the Honda game. I'm thinking about it simply for the availability of the engines and the insane aftermarket support. Instead of building up my ST retaining the Ford Powertrain, a K-swap might be the ticket. Ya ya its blasphemy but who cares. A good engine is a good engine. If I can build one, maintain one and modify one as easy as possible it's a no Brainer decision. Now to research if it's possible. Gotta find out if there are any adapters out there for the trans
Wrong about the Z3/A2/A rpm limit, sorry to be that guy. But its absolutely safe and reliable at its stock redline 8450, whatchu sayin "typically below 8000 for reliability" lmao. Z3/Z1:8450 A2/A:9000
What about B series?
There is a mistake in the K24 description. The bore is 87mm, but the stroke is 99mm!
I am a proud owner of one K24 😉
As a previous RSX Type S owner, I'm saddened I didn't push my vehicle past 7K enough
Oh man! You gotta do yourself a favor and buy another one lol
@@jesselee4405 I want a K20 in a 00 body 🙏🙏🙏
I love your videos but id like to point out the k20z3 balance shaft in the oil pump doesnt cavitate until about 8900 to 9000 rpm* not 8000 rpm. Fuel cutoff is at 8300 rpm and flashpro raises it to 8600 stock so the oil pump doesnt cavitate at 8000 rpm. The valve springs and retainers also dont float until about 9000 rpm either.
Beastly
these are such great and informative videos! would love to see one on the ecoboost 2.3/mzr disi turbo 2.3 out of the speed 3 and focus rs/mustang!
I have a 13 ILX with the k24z7 manual right now as my daily. I love it peppy, rare, and reliable. Iv had a RSX type S and a Integra type R in the past. My ILX Is faster and more reliable than both of those cars stock. Now my RSX after the Hondata ripped, but broke my transmission. My type R I didn't like the 5 speed and it just felt outdated. When I say my type R I mean I bought a JDM b18c and swapped it in a EK lol. My point is I had 3 K series motors, and the z7 is the most reliable and fastest stock.
WRONG, THE J-SERIES IS THE BIG BLOCK OF THE HONDA WORLD! I subbed, waiting to see a video on J-Series. Bertha, our 06' Accord Coupe J35a7 swap makes 550whp/467wtq on just 8psi (trans limited to 600hp). We Have Turbo dynos pulls, Cam R&D and other videos on our channel. Itching to see ya shout the J out 🤙 HalferLand Performance Products. If you do a J series video feel free to email us with any questions
Hey man quick question what k-series motor would you choose to do a swap with 🤔 got no clue about the JDM world.
@@surov8182 if you're asking us, we specialize in Jseries and not K. But if you watch this video, he provides just about all the suggestions needed
@@HalferLandPerformance got it thanks 👍
Hey brother whats the best J engine for mods? Im looking for a J engine but cant figure out which one is the best
@@UAE_8100 you said you want to mod but then said can't figure which to buy. So you coffused on which mods or which engine is best. BTW there all very similar but in our opinion if dropping into a swap, we like the Gen 2 engines the best. Gen 1 depending on which motor it is have some cast parts thY aren't good, while others have forged. Gen 2 basically all have forged internals but only cast pistons. Gen 3 most have VCM and it causes piston ring blow by and burning oil. So Gen 2 has the majority best engines through all years/models. If you want mod suggestions it's too much for YT comments. You can reach out to us HalferLand Performance. Or HondaJseriesEngine the dot and the com is our main site
this channel is so freaking great!
Volvo T5 next??? Love the videos and these are just FULL of information. The same info that I want so I can successfully swap a T5 into my overweight 960
That was better than any video out there explaining the differences. You made it easy😂
Great stuff bro! Please consider doing the f20c next. Honda made it exclusively in the s2000 but it won many awards :)
Nah no thanks..Kseries superseded it
This video makes me feel better about my Dads civic with a 2.0l K20c2… it’s no where near the older K series engines, but it sounds pretty good when v-tec activates.
Nice little brake down but CORRECTION the k24a “TYPE S” compression isn’t 11:0:1 it’s 10.5.1 RBB pistons the very same comp as the tsx k24a2 RBB and the jdm k24a type s had a crappy head package compared to the 06-08 bigger cam 1+mm intake valves nd the much better valve doing were the jdm version had the base model small valve sping
Koenigsegg TFG: 2.0ltr, 600hp, 70kg/154lb. Multi cycle/fuel types, low co2. Genius engine.
My son just purchased a 2005 TSX with 79K miles on it, he loves that car, just a nice step up from the 2000 Mazda Protege that looked like it was from the 90's.
