Had to re-upload due to technical issues - sorry if things were glitchy. Thank you for your patience! Also I'm reserving the right to change this list at any time 👀🥃 There's too many good ones
I have made and tried all of these along the way, over the past 2 years. The Boulevardier remains one of my all-time favourites. When using gin instead of bourbon or rye, if we maintain the 1:1:2 ratio and serve it up, the resulting cocktail is called Camparinete (it was actually documented at first like this, in 1929). The equal parts one, served in a rocks glass on a large ice cube, only appears in publications after 1950 with the name Negroni.
Now I am looking forward to the next Top 5 "Spirit" video. Great theme for a series. P.S. Please include videos for the less common mixing spirits like Pisco and Sherry as the main spirit.
The first drink I called my favorite drink was the Boulevardier. A local pizzeria/bar called theirs a Steve McQueen since they used Bulleit bourbon. Since then, I've found myself teaching bartenders how to make it because when I ask for it, they look at me like I'm speaking a different language. I've always appreciated you including this drink into your videos and this was a perfect start to my weekend. I hope a bottle of bourbon is in my Easter Basket. Cheers!
I think Freyja needs a top 5 "dog named" cocktails video in her honor. Maybe The Greyhound, The Bloodhound, Regal Beagle, The salty Chihuahua, Portuguese Water dog, The mutt mule....so many possibilities. 🐈
Loved this! I’d say Paper Plane and Old Fashioned. I make my Old Fashioned with browned butter-washed bourbon and maple syrup, with a tiny pinch of salt
I use a coffee frother set on the cool setting to create a luxurious aquafaba foam and then gently shake that into the whiskey sour. It creates an incredible texture.
Love that you’re giving Old Grand Dad some love, Anders! The bourbon craze has been annoying for those of us who use to be able to find whatever brand we wanted when we wanted. The older bonded bourbons still never fail to disappoint and I’ve always thought they work quite well in cocktails.
I've been following you for a while now, you helped me a lot as a new bartender in the industry. Thank you for the history classes on different cocktail and of course, the way to make it. Cheers!
I took your Bourbon Renewal and threw some egg white in it. The egg white really brings out the crème de casis in it. Absolutely fantastic, as well as the original!
This list is not just 5 great bourbon cocktails, it's also home for me (especially Old-Fashioned, Whiskey Sour, Boulevardier). They are always my first thoughts when it comes to cocktail. So good the bourbon!
Perfect timing! My bourbon-loving friend, whom I haven't seen in a really long time (since learning way more about making cocktails), is coming over for drinks tomorrow and it's going to be unseasonably cold and rainy.
Currently my favourite is your whisky smash cocktail from the previous video, really good with Woodford reserve. Also loved seeing Freya lounging around behind you during the video 🥰
Hey Anders, have you heard of a Clark? I was introduced to this drink by a bartender named Annalisa when she was at Pignic, here in Reno. It remains my favorite drink to this day. 2oz Four Roses Single Barrel Bourbon 3/4oz Allspice Dram (or to your liking) 1/4 oz simple syrup 3 dashes of Angostura Bitters Garnished with a lemon peel
The “Old Ebel” is a new favorite of mine. It has become super popular in Wisconsin and Minnesota recently. It’s simply an Old Fashioned using Amburana finished whiskey. Very, very good!
I don't know how I ever stumbled across the recipe but I do love a Blushing Betty. Bourbon, pink grapefruit juice and simple syrup, shaken over ice. One of my wife's favs as well
A really great video, and definitely something I appreciate/needed as I'm a bourbon guy, but I'm really going to need these Freyja interviews/outros to continue! 14/10 quality stuff!!
There's an excellent riff on the Boulevardier where you swap half the Campari for Creme de Banane. So; 1 ounce Bourbon 1 ounce Sweet vermouth 1/2 ounce Campari 1/2 ounce Creme de Banane. Orange twist (squeeze and drop it in)
Thank you so much for including your simple ratios in these. I usually use a 2:1 to get shelf stability but most recipes whether on youtube or blogs don't include what their syrup ratio is so I don't know if I'm going to blow out the sweetness or not.
I know I'm a little late to the party on this, but I have my own version of the Artist's Special that I have made for quite some time. It replaces sherry with port, and uses black current syrup for the red currant.
Thanks first off not only to Mr. E but, as well, to those that have commented here; truly helpful. There's a community here reminiscent of those that comment on the NYT "Metropolitan Diary" in each Sunday's NYT. As with many here, the Boulevardier is our go-to -- my wife was insisting that I find a bourbon cocktail for tonight and, notwithstanding the terrific alternatives presented, seems like the Boulevardier will be it though I WILL take a look at the La Louisianne. We take our's bourbon-forward, and find that stirring just.a.bit longer than usual makes some sense.
The Boulevardier is one of my all time favourite Cocktails. I like making it with islay whisky (Laphroig 10 or Lagavullin 16 do really well) and adding about a barspoon of a sweet sherry to round it out a bit.
Two days ago I had my first Old Fashioned. I did a bit if research, and made it at home myself. FYI, I also swapped the sugar cube for the demorara syrup. It just made more sense. I must say, it's now my favorite cocktail. However, I do love it kind of heavy on the orange bitters side, and probably with a hint more sweetness than most people make it. Mine probably has 1/3 ounce of syrup. But the great thing is, bourbon works with almost anything sweet and/or spicy. Since making it two days ago, I've had four of them, and looking forward to the 5th. I'm also looking forward to making a brandy version to see how that trips my trigger.
Favorite drink should be your timeless go to. If you had to pick one drink for the rest of your life type thing. I was a bartender as well. My favorite drink will always be a Tom Collins. Now that doesn’t mean I won’t go through times of only wanting a whiskey sour, or some sort of mule, but the Tom Collins will always be my favorite.
This is a recipe I have perfected over the last year which now I am proud to promote. You gotta try it. The combination of flavours is unmatched in a cocktail. I call it the Rimijee Cocktail. 15ml gin 15ml slow gin 15ml white rum 15ml dark rum 15ml scotch 15ml triple sec 15ml Chambord 15ml amaretto 30ml lime 15ml sugar syrup Garnish with two cherries
The Boulevardier has been my go-to cocktail for years now. The bartender who first served me one substituted Aperol for Campari and called it a "Harvest Moon." I have yet to find a do-it-all libation that stacks up against this aperitif.
Love bourbon straight and in cocktails. Thanks for the upload! As an aside, I usually ask bartenders what they think is the best cocktail they make and order that.
I usually drink my bourbon straight over a giant ice cube, but every now and then I'll mix up and old fashioned. It's a staple, every bar knows how to mix an oldy' and it's hard to get wrong.
My favourite cocktail is a lesser known brazilian drink with Bourbon (Tenesee whisky actually but I usually do it with Bourbon). It's called Jack Cana (Jack for Jack daniels and Cana for Suggar cane). I do not know the actual mixology terms and mesurements, so I'll try to explain as best as I can. It uses a cup similar to caipirinha which you fill with ice cubes. Fill half the glass with Suggar Cane juice, throw in 1 or 2 doses of Tenesee whiskey and a squeezez of lemmon (In brazil we call it Limão Siciliano, but I beleive it is called only lemmon in the USA). Don't stir. I'ts very refreshing and It's got the sweetness of the suggar cane, the bitterness of the tenessee whiskey and the citricity of the lemmon, but what I really like about it is that with the hidratation and suggar from the suggar cane juice, the alchohol doesn't hit you that hard. So you can have loads of them.
I am not working where I was and we were off anyway. I forgot what day it was. I love bourbon. This is one list where I have actually made some of these. The others I would love to try.
Hi Anders! Apologies if you've talked about this before. I've never had Old Grandad before so I'm curious what you like about it for these cocktails? Thanks!
Dude, I can't believe you mentioned the gold rush. That's one of my favorites. I've asked for it in so many bars and not one bartender knows how to make it.
Hey! Glad to see you used the bonded Old Grandad. It doesn't get enough love since its a lower shelf bourbon. But its my go to. Thanks for the channel!
Had to re-upload due to technical issues - sorry if things were glitchy. Thank you for your patience!
Also I'm reserving the right to change this list at any time 👀🥃 There's too many good ones
Yes! Let's see some sequels!
A lemon meringue cocktail - there's a challenge.
Maybe do an update video once a year, especially if you bumped one off the list and subbed in a new one. 😊
@@AlonzoTheArmless Yes!! Great idea!
A little surprised the Manhattan didn’t make the list but otherwise solid!
Freyja's input was immeasurable, great job
that was an incredible and illuminating answer, good gworl Freyja tuttututututut who's got a good chinny tuttuttuttutut 🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌
@@acrophobe A wonderful bitch.

Didn't realize that - I guess I love the Camparinete. Cheers
All I know is that Anders recommended the higher ratio and it makes a much better tasting cocktail.
It surely is, especially with a higher proof bourbon (or even better, rye).
Bro, did you ever Italia? :D
Now I am looking forward to the next Top 5 "Spirit" video. Great theme for a series. P.S. Please include videos for the less common mixing spirits like Pisco and Sherry as the main spirit.
I'll be sure to keep that in mind. Cheers

I've never heard of a salty Chihuahua, but that's a perfect name. Very redundant. 🤣
The Boulevardier deserves its own episode!!! 😋👍
I grew up on old fashions and I’m proud of it
I bartend at a Nursing home on sundays, your whiskey sour recipe is a mega hit! Going to try the Bramble later this month!
Loved this!
I’d say Paper Plane and Old Fashioned. I make my Old Fashioned with browned butter-washed bourbon and maple syrup, with a tiny pinch of salt
Damn that sounds fantastic
I use a coffee frother set on the cool setting to create a luxurious aquafaba foam and then gently shake that into the whiskey sour. It creates an incredible texture.
Nice - gonna have to try that myself
Which one? Bialetti?
Mine is made by a company called Miroco.
@@dmitrireavis1729 Thanks so much. Will def try out!^^
Your bourbon renewal recipe is an absolute favorite with my household and any guests that come over, will have to try the artists special next!

I love the pup in the background :)
Ooft! Excellent list Anders! 🙌
Difficult to narrow down - too many good ones! Cheers Steve!
Hey Anders, have you heard of a Clark? I was introduced to this drink by a bartender named Annalisa when she was at Pignic, here in Reno. It remains my favorite drink to this day.
2oz Four Roses Single Barrel Bourbon
3/4oz Allspice Dram (or to your liking)
1/4 oz simple syrup
3 dashes of Angostura Bitters
Garnished with a lemon peel
I love the Old Fashioned and the Boulevardier. My wife is a fan of the Whiskey Sour, so I make these when we are having a weekend afternoon drink.
My fav is a cherry old fashioned:
2 oz British Columbia rye
1/2 oz homemade cherry srub.
Angostura
The “Old Ebel” is a new favorite of mine. It has become super popular in Wisconsin and Minnesota recently. It’s simply an Old Fashioned using Amburana finished whiskey. Very, very good!
Thumbs up for Freyja!!! 😍😍😍
Lemon Meringue Pie with Bourbon is the perfect description, and is exactly why I love a Whiskey Sour!
Your channel is by far my favorite for learning about cocktails. Watching your videos makes me want to take up bartending in my spare time!
Omg the pup.
I don't know how I ever stumbled across the recipe but I do love a Blushing Betty. Bourbon, pink grapefruit juice and simple syrup, shaken over ice. One of my wife's favs as well
Definitely trying your OF recipe. Here in S.Florida I enjoy a Bourbon Smash year round. So refreshing.
I love making whiskey sours (Boston’s sour) and old fashioned at home. Usually not a lot of bars can make a proper Boston sour.
Time for bourbon drinks all Easter weekend!
Old Fashioned & Renewal fan here but you've got my curiosity up for expanding my horizons. Cheers!
The New York sour twist on a Whiskey Sour is probably my favourite drink ever.
Glad to see I’m not the only one who adds an orange wedge to the mixing glass before stirring.
Your pup is adorable !!! Really cool way to make the old new again !!!
A really great video, and definitely something I appreciate/needed as I'm a bourbon guy, but I'm really going to need these Freyja interviews/outros to continue! 14/10 quality stuff!!
That bnb old grandad is a beautiful whiskey.
Great video! Love the dog!
I do not use the egg white in my whiskey sour. 2 oz bourbon, 3/4 oz lemon juice, 3/4 oz simple syrup... cocktail cherry. Try it. So good.
Every since I watched your video on how to make an old fashion, it's been my favorite drink.
There's an excellent riff on the Boulevardier where you swap half the Campari for Creme de Banane. So;
1 ounce Bourbon
1 ounce Sweet vermouth
1/2 ounce Campari
1/2 ounce Creme de Banane.

Thank you so much for including your simple ratios in these. I usually use a 2:1 to get shelf stability but most recipes whether on youtube or blogs don't include what their syrup ratio is so I don't know if I'm going to blow out the sweetness or not.
If you go to a top 6, my favorite is your Bourbon Renewal, made a pitcher for a house party, Big Hit!
I know I'm a little late to the party on this, but I have my own version of the Artist's Special that I have made for quite some time. It replaces sherry with port, and uses black current syrup for the red currant.
Omg, looking forward to top 5 Gin
Compair and Gin are may two most favourite ingredients.
Good girl!
You'd made the Boulevardier in the Manhattan to Margarita video, I loved it
daddy anders never lets us down papa bless
To me, the Artist's Special will always be synonymous with the Ward Eight Bar in Chicavanston

Great selection. I'll always be a cheerleader for an old fashioned.
Classic. Cheers Andrew
My fav is one part bourbon, one part bourbon with a splash of bourbon
I was thinking of suggesting a video focused on bourbon cocktails, and there you go. Perfect, thanks Anders!
Finally!!! You give THE BOULIVARDIER its due!!! One of my favorite cocktails! I do prefer mine over a crystal clear rock though.
Two days ago I had my first Old Fashioned. I did a bit if research, and made it at home myself. FYI, I also swapped the sugar cube for the demorara syrup. It just made more sense. Old fashioned is my fav as well. Try it with a bar spoon of 100% pure maple syrup for the sweetener.
i get the foam without the egg, the lemon juice foams up too
Great in theory, a little tougher in practice. Don't have most of those ingredients, except for those in the Old Fashioned and the Whiskey Sour.
Almost perfect from Canlis in Seattle or Trinidad sour with egg white. In summer a Negroni with meletti red and alessio vermouth (very specific)
Favorite drink should be your timeless go to. If you had to pick one drink for the rest of your life type thing. I was a bartender as well. My favorite drink will always be a Tom Collins. The boulivardier is one of my goto cocktails especially in fall. I do like to sub the bourbon with rye
Boulevardier is my favorite bourbon cocktail, too
My favorite bourbon cocktail is the Paper Plane for sure. Cheers!
This is a good afternoon by the pool or fireside with a cigar.

Great video - Thank you!! Am sure Freyja's annoyed the Manhattan's left out though.. Cheers
This is exactly the right video for a Friday afternoon. Cheers.
Didn't know how I could enjoy this channel more, but then Freya happened. Thank you as always!
Love bourbon straight and in cocktails. Thanks for the upload! As an aside, I usually ask bartenders what they think is the best cocktail they make and order that.
OMG! I watch this for the Boulevardier recipe …I wasn’t disappointed, even though my recipe is a bit more bourbon forward. 😂
Love your stuff!
I usually drink my bourbon straight over a giant ice cube, but every now and then I'll mix up and old fashioned. It's a staple, every bar knows how to mix an oldy' and it's hard to get wrong.
Paper Plane and Lion's Tail. I use Alton Brown's recipe for the allspice dram in the LT.
SUPER STOKED to try ALL of these but especially the Boulevardier
"There's nothing wrong with that..." Love it, cheers!
Boulevardier seems to be a cocktail that’s right up my alley. I need to commit to making them at home. It’s had my attention for months.
My favourite cocktail is a lesser known brazilian drink with Bourbon (Tenesee whisky actually but I usually do it with Bourbon).

We rolled with Boulevardiers tonight, making one as listed, and one with Aperol instead. We liked them both, and prefer these to the Negroni.
Boulevardier has to be a top 5 for me as well.
Can’t forget a Sazerac too.
Been drinking Old Fashions since I first watched your other video.
Thanks Anders for another great session of cocktail building.
mint julep is fantastic and refreshing. I make it more of on the rocks verses with crushed ice.
I loveeeeee an smoked Old fashioned
I am not working where I was and we were off anyway. I forgot what day it was. I love bourbon. This is one list where I have actually made some of these. The others I would love to try.
My favorite cocktail is bourbon on ice. When I'm feeling crazy I put a good peated Scotch on my ice. 😂
Awesome!
Manhattan (perfect or black) and the Paper Plane. Love your channel- great work as always!
Hi Anders! Apologies if you've talked about this before. I've never had Old Grandad before so I'm curious what you like about it for these cocktails? Thanks!
everything will be remixed over easter, thanks a lot
You can create a cocktail called the Freyja. Anyway, I have the mixings for a Boulevardier. That's what I'm drinking tonight. Thanks.
I also love an Old Fashioned made with Good Bourbon 🥃
My new favorite is the Revolver cocktail - tried it for the first time last month.
Boulevardier is the GOAT, it just never sounds like a bad time for one. A little sad to not see the Paper Plane on the list though :'(
