Grand marneir for the orange, maple syrup for the sweetener, maraschino cherry, Agostino bitters, Bulleit Burbon, chunk of ice is my go to nightcap right now. You got me interested in that absinthe spritz!
Never heard of the 'spoon cocktail' name before. However, now that we see you can eat a cocktail, this opens up the door for incredible desserts made on the template of an Old Fashioned. Thanks for the idea.
Love the video. More OFs to make. I made a maple old fashioned, but used cardamom bitters instead. Also spritzed with absinthe like a sazerac. Reminds me of Scandinavian Christmas flavors from my childhood.
I make a cranberry old fashioned because bourbon and cranberry work well together. Half ounce simple syrup, ounce and half unsweetened cranberry juice 2 dashes orange angustora (sp) bitters 2 ounce bourbon. Stir serve over ice garnish with cocktail cherry. I used makers mark and Elijah Craig.
The video of all videos right here!!! I’m going to pause this video on my phone and take it the the 65’ TV in the living room 🎉 cheers everybody and thank you Anders!
“I have altered the recipe. Pray I don’t alter it further” (ominous Vader voice) - love this video. My go to OF is basically your bourbon old fashioned but substitute grapefruit peel for orange and rhubarb bitters instead of angostura
I have made each one of these cocktails. Your recipe off your past videos. The “Regal” stir (when needed) is the secret to making these cocktails taste perfect. The Absinthe old fashion I too found in that book. I think I bought it off your recommendation. Absolutely love these videos. Thank you.
Thank you for this!! I have a drink maybe twice a month. It's always an old-fashioned at a local bar. I'm starting to get bored with it, and these will be things I can ask for. Thanks Anders!
I will most definitely search for that book you mentioned. I wanted to take a moment and thank you for the startup advice on the Toasted Almond Old Fashioned recipe I was experimenting with in December. I t has been evolving for a month but you gave a great initial recipe. Thank You.
When I returned to Louisville in 2010, the owner of a small liquor store told me that "brown spirits are dead. Gin,too. All anybody wants are vodka and tequila." Then the Bourbon boom hit. For the last couple weeks, all the news in Kentucky has been about how the Bourbon industry is collapsing. And there is persuasive evidence of that. Glad you're around for new ideas!
Literally all i drink for hard liquor has always been whiskey of various types idk why. Idk how it happened but i dont care for anything else at all much, i cant stand Tequila and its a trendy thing now i feel like. It tastes horrible except for some high end Repisado’s or Enejo’s. Started with Jack, went to Jameson, then Crown Royale. Now im into all sorts of diff Rye’s and Scotch and whatever im in the mood for. Old fashions are my fave or a nice highland Dalmore scotch neat. And im not that old, 33 currently. So its just a timeless sort of thing
What a GREAT video!! Wonderful job and a lot of fun. So I hope you carefully consumed those cocktails with Az and friends and simply did not dispose of them. Keep up the fine work for all of mankind!
According to cocktail historian David Wondrich, "The first written reference to a Sazerac Cocktail is in 1899, and it was definitely a rye cocktail." The Cognac thing is somewhat of a myth, apparently.
Recently was in the U.S. and got a bottle of Old Tom Gin (difficult to find in Canada), will be making the Gin OF this week! OF is my absolutely favourite cocktail so looking forward to trying these variations. Thanks Anders; great video! Cheers!
Gotta say, I personally prefer chocolate bitters in a Oaxaca old fashioned, but a grapefruit Peel is one I haven't seen that I now absolutely have to try. Awesome video.
Absolutely love the Oaxaca old fashioned, but to me my favourite it to use a full 60ml of anejo tequila, and forget about the mezcal. 100% agree on the grapefruit with agave spirits.
Also, ive used your bourbon old fashioned recipe ever since I first seen your vid, my mate says its the best old fashioned hes ever had, always asks me to make it lol.
Great video! 🥃 Pretty surprised a rum old fashioned didn't make it into the list, that's my personal favorite. I use Falernom as the sweetener and Amaro Montenegro as the bitter, and regal an or orange peel!
I've been enjoying Sazeracs for years. The only changes I do to your version is cut back a little on the syrup and serve it down in a chilled glass so the absinthe gets the nose involved a bit more.
I was introduced to a Wisconsin Old Fashioned by a friend who took me to a supper club. He ordered me a soda old fashioned, and I was in love. Brandy is my favorite spirit, and I swap it for other spirits in a lot of drinks. My favorite dessert is a White Russian with brandy substituted for the vodka.
The Bourbon Old Fashioned is the video that brought me to your channel (Ohh boy, years ago now too I guess!!) and it's still my all time favourite to make! Do you have any more bourbon reccs to make it with?
You had me at #4. My go-to cocktail that I batch in one liter bottles and keep in the fridge. . In a 1-liter bottle (adust to taste of course): 1.5 oz. rich demerara syrup 0.5 oz black walnut bitters 6 oz. water One 750 ml bottle of high proof bourbon or rye (current batch is Wild Turkey 101). It's a crowd pleaser. Keep these videos coming! To the bar!
That original Old Fashioned video is what started me on my cocktail journey. Didn't even notice at the time I watched it a couple years back that you used EHT. My specialty has become doing Maple Bacon OFs. I was using Ealry Times BIB to Bacon Fat wash, until that got scarce. So, now I have to find another ~100 proof bourbon I like for the recipe (WT 101 has too much cinnamon flavor for my taste in this). Otherwise it's pretty similar to the smoked maple one, except I like to use Orange Bitters.
Smoked maple with cinnamon to provide the smoke. That’s my go to. And life is too short to drink bad whiskey. Use the best bourbon you can, even in your cocktails.

I'm a big fan of absinthe and the Sazerac is my favorite cocktail. I use an atomizer to coat the glass, but then do a few more sprays on top after the pour. Also love a good Old Fashioned, but not a fan of the muddled fruit ones though. Great content as always Anders!
Anders, I noticed at Ward Eight they use a spray on their Old Fashioned, in place of an orange peel. I know it's been a minute since you've worked there, but I was wondering if you could share what they put in there perhaps??
Your original Old Fashioned video was the first one of yours I came across in 2021 and it inspired me to look into cocktails a bit more. Fast forward to 2025 and I've got a custom made bar and more bottles than I care to mention. Thanks so much for the inspiration!

The story I heard about Wisconsin Old-Fashioned (brandy) was that it was a result of all the Badgers who visited the Chicago World’s Fair 1893 and tasted the American Brandy exhibit’s featured drink, an Old-Fashioned using American Brandy, as a way to promote their product. It was a hit with the crowd from WI who already had a familiarity with Brandy and took the idea home. Not sure how much truth there is to the story, but good one to tell when visiting a supper club for fish fry with visiting friends who come for a stay at our cabin up by Rhinelander.
Hi Anders….kudos to you for your endurance in making 8 cocktails, these drinks look amazing!👌👌….I like the first four the most. Enjoy your weekend and as always “CHEERS!”🥃🥃🤗🤗❤️❤️
Suck a ca-winky-dink...I tried your Sazerac recipe last night!! Got it from older vid. I still used the sugar cube but incorporated the Ango and cognac. Even got the Gibraltar rocks glass for it!! So Dee-Lish!!
That's a Wisconsin Old Fashioned? That doesn't look half bad at all! I was expecting a hunk of cheese in there or something, given the state's reputation for dairy products.
I guess, going off of that last silly comment of mine, that you could make an Idaho Old Fashioned with potatoes...maybe potato vodka? That honestly doesn't sound half bad. A Washington Old Fashioned would have apple... Maybe we can make an Old Fashioned for every state while we're at it? lol
Just missing a fat washed old fashioned. The Benton's is probability the favorite, but I'm partial to a browned buttered rum old fashioned or a cacao butter rum one.
Great video. I like your go to Old Fashioned cocktail, which is perfect. 🙂 You should also try this japanese version which is one of signature drinks from Martiny’s in NY. ruclips.net/video/QUeQDYj8B4o/видео.html
Awesome line up Anders. I remember that video with you using EH Taylor bourbon thinking he must know where to get that bourbon readily available if hes using it on an old fashion. 😅
Please share these with friends. Nothing got done for the rest of my day
Lol. Sounds like a good day.

It's funny watching you getting just a little bit hammered by the end of the video with those small sips. 😂

I always love another place to use that way-to-big bottle of absinthe I bought 😂
This should make a small dent in your bottle
Seel the billionaire cocktail. And I just drank a Death in the Afternoon, which was brilliant.

Appreciate the comment! Hadn't read that
Yessss, love a good old fashioned!

The nice thing about the Saturday posts is that it takes all the guesswork out of what I'll be making!
Great video! 🥃
Pretty surprised a rum old fashioned didn't make it into the list, that's my personal favorite.
I use Falernom as the sweetener and Amaro Montenegro as the bitter, and regal an or orange peel!
I would love a video of you talking about the styles/families of cocktails
OGD 114, respectable 🤝
Love the vid as always! Thoughts on barrel aged gin for gin old fashioned?
Awesome video as always! Where’s the rum old fashioned though? 😜
I learned a lot and now I’m going to “get out of here’ and drink.😂
I've been enjoying Sazeracs for years. The only changes I do to your version is cut back a little on the syrup and serve it down in a chilled glass so the absinthe gets the nose involved a bit more.
Try an Old Fashioned with Jamaican rum and chocolate bitters.

As good as always, but getting these on a late Saturday European time means that it is hard to go from video to making your own.
Hmm. Noted
I love Old Fashions. 🥃
This episode was excellent Anders, and I learned something new too 😂 👍🏻
Oh and "your bourbon old fashioned" looks delicious 😋
Hope you enjoy it. Cheers
oh man anders i feel like i should go make a drink to join you for this party ahha
17:06 you have link to the glass used for the Oaxaca old fashioned?
Great list of Old Fashioneds. The ansinthe one scares me. I may have to try it with a friend.

Try subbing in birch syrup for the maple and smoke with cherry wood.

As someone who moved to the netherlands: it's "hen-ev-eh" with as much phlegm on the first h as you want :P
Smoked maple with cinnamon to provide the smoke. That’s my go to.
And life is too short to drink bad whiskey. Use the best bourbon you can, even in your cocktails.
Like the mezcal adds smoke to the oaxaca old fashioned, I like to add smoke to my whiskey old fashioned by using a nice peaty Scotch.

50/50 soda is the bomb. Is it still being made?
Hope so. Haven't seen it in years
We’ve reached the mountain top!
LOL 😂
How coincidental, but I just made an old fashion from a recipe I created a few months back that we just love. Thanks again for a great video! 😊
Your brandy old fashioned is interesting. When I go up to Lake Geneva, they make my old fashioned’s with sprite. Was not sure why but know I know.
Anders, I noticed at Ward Eight they use a spray on their Old Fashioned, in place of an orange peel. I know it's been a minute since you've worked there, but I was wondering if you could share what they put in there perhaps??
Can't say for certain, but my guess is concentrated orange oil cut with a vodka
Your original Old Fashioned video was the first one of yours I came across in 2021 and it inspired me to look into cocktails a bit more. Fast forward to 2025 and I've got a custom made bar and more bottles than I care to mention. Thanks so much for the inspiration!

Perfect way to end dry January, with an old faithful old fashioned
Happy February
Smokey Cherry Old Fashioned:
40 ML Bourbon
20ML Islay Whisky (I prefer Ardbeg Wee Beastie)
15ML Demerara Syrup
4 Dashes Cherry Bitters
Stir on Ice
And Drop a Maraschino Cherry with a bit of that Juice into the Tumbler on a Big Rock of Ice

Pretty sure I'd love this drink. Cheers
The Bourbon Old Fashioned, spirit forward, is my go-to. But I also ❤ the Cuban Old Fashioned…which didn’t see in your lineup 😢

ahhh the bourbon old fashioned is what I recognize as an old fashion, I was confused at first
I never heard of a spoon being a garnish

I’m sending a pattern. Is Saturday the new regular release day? 🎉
Trying different upload times. Thanks for being here today
I’m here for it!

I wonder how the gin old fashioned would do with either lemon or lime bitters.
Both should go great in the drink
I’ve seen it with genever instead of Old Tom, but I gotta say - genever is not a spirit I’ve ever warmed up to.
Orange peel > Lemon peel
So which one of these is Az’s favorite?

This person says Absinthe is nasty.
🍸✨🍸✨🍸
absinth has way too high an ABV to be a liqueur.
Always glad to see you put the WI version up. Doesnt get much love from others.

no rum old-fashioned?! 🙃
I’m pushing dry January out until next weekend and the list of cocktails I’m looking forward to trying just keeps on growing… this video didn’t help 😂
