@billwong553 I still remember my Freshman art class in high school in 1991 as we all talked and jammed to The Black Album, Pearl Jams "Ten", and Nirvana's "Nevermind". Such a great year for music.
Agreed! Of course Nothing Else Matters get it’s praise (as it should), but songs like Of Wolf and Man, Through the Never, The God That Failed, and My Friend of Misery never get played on setlists anymore. I got to see My Friend of Misery played live recently and it one of my fav songs of the night. Crowd participation with that song is incredible!
He has my favorite "clean" singing voice in any metal band. I mostly listen to screaming vocals and most of them aren't too great at cleans so that's where I always return to Metallica
This is in my opinion Metallica most underrated song out there, such a masterpiece instrumentally speaking, Jason´s bass in this song hits really hard tbh
If you think the middle instrumental part is great on the album you should check out a live version of this song where James gets the crowd to sing the guitar harmonies. It’s truly something special!
This song always brings me to tears because it describes my life to a tee, Everyone wants something from you but never appreciates anything you do for them. I think a lot of older men like me knows what I'm talking about. Great reaction Lilly...
Really like how you see these songs, like you’re putting together a music video in your head to give that extra depth to your experience. Keep it going
Monster of a track and as always another great reaction..i was blessed when i was a kid to have a brother who was mad into Metallica and when i went off the rails i used to stay at his house and Metallica was the Anthems we played loud as hell i owe my brother and Metallica My LIFE!!!....this track is a masterpeice...Sad But True is another Banger...and Congrats on 100k subs now lets get it to 200k :D
Congrats on 100 K! I’ve been here since the start of your Metallica journey and I’m so glad that you are enjoying Metallica and every other metal band that you keep experiencing! ❤
Congratulations on 100k subscribers Lilly. You'll have to display your 100k sub plaque on the wall. This song was originally to be a instrumental only song until James decided to add lyrics to it. It's also one of the few songs with Jason writing credits.
The intro bassline riff was written by Jason, this was originally going to be an 8 or 9 minute instrumental!! It was my favourite song along with Sad But True when this album was new!!
The Metallica song that blew my mind was Fight Fire with Fire. I had just discovered Metallica when the Black Album came out and wanted more, so I went out and got Ride the Lightning, once I heard FFwF I knew i was a fan for life.
This is Jason Newsted's second writing credit with Metallica since this song was originally going to be an instrumental. ruclips.net/video/A5Z2N_hskVk/видео.html This song is about an outsider view of someone wandering in self-pity and having a very pessimistic view of the rest of the world. The lower notes that you heard was Jason Newsted on bass during the intro as well as the middle section with the guitar swells. The later half of this album after "Nothing Else Matters" has really great deep cuts that don't get the recognition that they deserve to be honest. Also, you were hearing guitar harmonies from James and Kirk before Kirk's guitar solo. You've reacted to Iron Maiden before which popularized the guitar harmonies.
I've (41m) been a Metallica fan since I was 10. This song in particular has always been a favourite. I think you hit the nail on the head about misery and how it's lashing out. With my own experience, I think the lyrics are very deep...misery loves company, these times are sent to try men's souls, but something's wrong with all you see. If you're stuck in a place where the distractions of the world are controlling you, your thoughts, actions and mindset, you need to clear yourself of those distractions. Look at what it can lead to, how much misery takes on, the pain and anguish it leads to. Release yourself of your own misery, make different decisions to the ones that don't serve you, change your mindset on what is causing misery and discover life without it. Hetfield has such an amazing gift for the world. Glad to be part of the family 🤘 Now I'm gonna go and play along to this awesome song
I was disappointed they didn't continue instrumentals from this album on, until Death Magnetic that is. Which was such an awesome redemption album after St. Anger. No offense to anyone that does like it, just didn't really work for me. Although seeing and hearing a little St. Anger live did change my mind somewhat about the album.
The Black album outside the big 4 being: Enter Sandman, Nothing Else Matters, Unforgiven and Sad but True, are grossly underrated! I loved this album when I was younger! I used to drive around town with my Car stereo cranking out this album, such a killer album!
That instrumental, the solo and the instrumental afterwards was just a killer SHRED session by KIRK "THE RIPPER" HAMMETT!!! The guitar wailing as if someone was in agony and a little shades of Jimmy Hendrix style thrown in there for good measure, just wickedly creative. Great song and great reaction my lady, please keep 'em coming, you're doing a FANTASTIC job of breaking down some of the greatest classic Metallica tunes🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I see your Nirvana shout-out. Nice! When I was a kid back in the 80's, "For Whom the Bell Tolls" came on the radio in my parents car on 98-ROCK and they've been my favorite band since. Congrats on 100k!
One of may fav endings from Metallica. Your analysis is amazingly deep and wise beyond your years. Keep up the great work. For me, spit out the bone still has a special place of the recent songs that just blew me away when I first heard it.
Your face was priceless! Okay so the beginning is all Jason Newstead on Bass..with Lars playing lightly on the symbol....then when you were like what's that during the the beginning of the breakdown that's all James Hetfield and then him playing lead and him & Kirk both playing lead beautifully, simultaneously...then Kirk going nuts on his whaa pedal. This songs absolutely 💯 fire!! Love your reactions!!🤘💚
Its a shame they never played this live when Jason was in the band, I remember at the concerts I was at, when he played the bass intro to it during his solo's, the crowds would go fucking nuts
Jason Newsted (now ex-Metallica bassist) said he came up w/ 'My friend of misery' on bass hoping that it would be the next Metallica instrumental... He felt that 'Load' was a misstep and Metallica was not musically delivering the product that he felt they could deliver. He wanted metal bands to open for Metallica and was disappointed when artists like Kid Rock and Local H were picked to open their concerts. In 2000, Newsted had a number of projects he had recorded in his home studio... one was a jazz rock project called Echobrain. He approached Metallica about putting it out as a side project, but James Hetfield told him 'No'... That was the last straw for Newsted. @@TokusatsuGamingfan First of all clown, this is the first time I've mentioned a cover song in the comments and second of all, are you her PR manager or something? I'll ask her anything I want. Jason and Kirk would do a nice little break on the Load tour with bits of this one some 25 years ago... I remember being frustrated to only get a taste. where'd time go again? There's a lot of different directions I like in the song, that starting bit of bass stands out quite well. The guitar harmonies on the latter third are totally Thin Lizzy inspired through and through.
It may not have made it as the instrumental for the album, but it made it's way into the live show as his bass solo. Jason had so much more to give that band. If only they were open to it.
An underappreciated gem. The whole back half of the album doesn't get it's just dues, great album by the boys.
Kudos on 100K!
I forgot. The old albums always get my listen, but this is great.
(I know this is old now too)

The intro was all bass. This is the best song in the album🔥🔥
This and "through the never" IMO
And justice for Jason.
40 yaşımdayım ve ben Türk'üm bu şarkı albümün en iyi şarışı ve çok haklısın dinlediğimde yıl 1996 idi ve çok güzel yıllardı. sevgilerle...
Hetfield's voice in the chorus is so awesome
Papa Het from 88 to 93 was a beast
well said.

I can't wait to see her reaction for "The Outlaw Torn" and "Fixxxer"
The outlaw torn on S&M is so bloody awesome!!
Kudos to Kirk for his solos; however, the bass and James singing on this song are in one word: AWESOME
Now go back and listen to Inamorata again. It's kind of like a part 2 to this song. Great reaction, glad you liked this song! One of my all time favs!
Yes friend.
Congrats on 100K! Well deserved and I DO believe there's more to come. Your hard work has paid off. 🙂 Keep up the GREAT work Lilly! 🤘🤘🤘
Really like how you see these songs, like you’re putting together a music video in your head to give that extra depth to your experience. Keep it going
My favorite song on the album and the only song on the black album Jason got writing credits on. The bass lines are so good!!!
Been blown away by Metallica more than once. The most vivid was No Leaf Clover. Combination of Metallica with an orchestra behind them is insane.
I'm always so happy when somebody reacts to my favourite Metallica song! Glad you liked it!
What a song... I used to listen to this late at night during my high school years, it takes me back to the early 2000s.
Good reaction. Some other Metallica songs you may like are Bleeding Me and Outlaw Torn
Merci ! I love this song ! So powerfull ❤
Thank you for the support (:
Hi
Hi
My favorite from this album, you're covering all of my favorites! Enjoying the ride
One of my all time favorite metallica songs that blew my mind upon the first time hearing it is No Leaf Clover

The main bassline and riff and the middle part do it for me!

CYANIDE, THE SMALL HOURS AND ORIAN
blew my mind the 1st time and low key still do. 🤯🤘
The Metallica song that blew my mind? That’s my all time favorite song Creeping Death. Nothing can top that one for me.
The Black album outside the big 4 being: Enter Sandman, Nothing Else Matters, Unforgiven and Sad but True, are grossly underrated! I loved this album when I was younger! I used to drive around town with my Car stereo cranking out this album, such a killer album!

Congratulations on 💯K!!🖤💙❤️
One of my favorite Metallica songs, it's so well structured musically speaking
I was instantly hooked after listening to this song from the first time in 1991.
This one song was Unforgiven, from the same one album. It got me all ways. Since then I am listening to heavy music for like 25 years already
metallica ruled the world.
Very substantial reaction I like how you interpreted the instrumental sections instead of just saying how rad it is 😅
The one Metallica song that blew my mind has to be fight fire with fire for sheer ferocity alone!
My favorite MetallicA song

A.K.A. guitar harmonies.
Congratulations! You have learned to speak guitar. The riffs and solos are just another form of lyric. ❤🤍💙
Eye of the Beholder is what blew my mind
That one Metallica song that blew my mind when I first heard it was Mamma Said off of their album Load.
Listen to this song every day on the commute
Underrated...one of my favorites. Listen to Inamorata on the 72 Seasons album if you have not already. I think you'll like it.
They never should have let Jason go
@breakdancinfool They never gave him the credit he deserved. By the way his solo stuff is great 💯
HE FOKIN LEFT THE BAND
NO DOUBT!!!!!!!!!!!!
This song is very powerful
That reverse reverb at the beginning if the solo is the absolute best.
hey lilly this song is awesome your reaction is funny well done
Its a shame they never played this live when Jason was in the band, I remember at the concerts I was at, when he played the bass intro to it during his solo's, the crowds would go fucking nuts
My Friend Of Misery foi a música que mais me surpreendeu do MetallicA quando eu ouvi a 1º vez e a minha música preferida do Black Album!!🖤
Metallica's "The Outlaw Torn" is a little-noticed but epic piece of music, perhaps because it has nearly 10 minutes length.
And justice for Jason

First time hearing dyers eve blew my mind
My metallica cd had a hole in it where this song used to be i played it so mutch.
The first song that I ever listened too is One from MetallicA will always be my number one song follow by fade to black
Apparently, the song was originally written as an instrumental, like "Orion." But they decided to add lyrics when they were recording it.
Misery Signals - Five Years. Throwing it out there.
Metallica song that just blew my mind is CHEAT ON ME. (Lulu is the album)
I reccomend you to watch live version of this just epic I can say :)
Nothing Else Matters is a classic

Have you checked out there Blacklist album? It's the 30th anniversary for this one. The first track by The Warning is a must hear.
i always interpreted this song as an ode to Cliff.
I even think Jason confirmed this once, but maybe im nuts.
both a probably true.
