This is from a 2001 interview with playboy magazine that Metallica did. "Around the time of Load, I felt I wanted to stop drinking. “Maybe I’m missing out on something. Everyone else seems so happy all the time. I want to get happy.” I’d plan my life around a hangover: “The Misfits are playing in town Friday night, so Saturday is hangover day.” I lost a lot of days in my life. Going to therapy for a year, I learned a lot about myself. There’s a lot of things that scar you when you’re growing up, you don’t know why. The song Bleeding Me is about that: I was trying to bleed out all bad, get the evil out. While I was going through therapy, I discovered some ugly stuff in there. A dark spot." - James Hetfield talking about the meaning of "Bleeding Me"
A lot of people never gave newer Metallica music a fair shake! Now thanks to your generation reacting to it, proves all their music is better than ninety nine percent of the music out there, new and old! Thank you!!
James loves to play this one live…He really puts it all out there when they do it. I feel that this song was James at his most honest lyrically. Kirk just slays on that solo and Lars is definitely on point with his drumming here. I was really looking forward to this as it’s my favorite Metallica song and I’m so glad you enjoyed it!
This song was about James's addictions, and how he was the source of everything that was going wrong in his life. Towards the beginning of the song he says "this thorn in my side is from the tree I planted," this monkey that I can't get off my back, I'm the one that put it there.
I don’t think James had ever been that honest in a song before…He didn’t really write about himself until Load. Maybe a couple of times but it was never blatant and intentional like this. This song seems so personal and perhaps that’s why I put it in my top 3 of their career. It’s beautifully written!
This is on my play list. So atleast 8 times a week I hear it. And everytime I hear it I have to turn up full noise.and I get goosebumps every time. 10/10
I keep hearing people saying Load n Reload were experiments. I have never thought that, as a hard core metal head I loved these two albums when they came out n still do. One of reasons I love Metallica so much is due to the fact they like changing things up. And Bleeding Me is one of my favorite songs ever.
I’m happy to see so many people love this song. It’s my all time favourite and it’s on one of their most controversial albums ever. Thought I was alone. But bleeding me and outlaw torn are masterpieces in my ears ❤
God, I freakin love this song! You first asked about lyric vs music video: I would say studio lyric should always be the first reaction, before music video or live. You asked second about which song I turn to: just depends on my mood. Usually I just hit a playlist with Metallica and it’s usually a song I didn’t even choose which reels me in and either gets me amped up or soothes the sorrows.
I love everything about Metallica, particularly this album, Load, since it was the first album (on cassette) that I was able to buy when I was in school, I listened to it many times, along with "Reload" and I still enjoy them.
One of, if not my absolute favorite Metallica song. No matter how many times I listen to this song that breakdown effects me so much I start gritting my teeth. Its the heaviest (don't get this confused with hardest) piece of writing James put out.
He did visit a vocal coach, early on in the recording sessions for the self titled Black Album, he blew his voice out doing a cover song, "So What" originally done by British punk band, Anti Nowhere League... I'm a big MetallicA fan. 🤷♂️ P.S., Fixxxer off of the following album, ReLoad, is a must-hear and in my opinion, somewhat similar to Bleeding Me...
"So What" was what did him in? After all the shit he put his voice through before that? That's one hell of a straw. >.> He shoulda left that goat alone...
omg that analysis at 5:45 was incredible. ive listended to this song hundreds maybe thousands of times and have glossed over the underlying emotion. thanks you Lilly
I’ve been binging your Metallica reaction videos, and you remind me so much of my younger self when first listening to Metallica. Love your passion for their music.
One of Metallica's most underrated and undervalued songs. Still, The Outlaw Torn is the best Load has to offer in my opinion. The Outlaw Torn is that Metallica song for me that always soothes me when I'm feeling down and out.
This is one of my favourite songs by them and every time someone reacts to this song I click that video and see those facial expressions that they make while enjoying such a beautiful song with beautiful vocals and riffs and melodies
Also, first and only reaction I’ve seen to this song and you were so insightful and brought different meanings to what I’ve been listening to for years. Well done 🤘🏼
"Harvester of Sorrow" is probably one of the top Metallica songs that finds its way into my playlist not so much whenever I'm having a bad day, but usually whenever I'm troubled, stressed out or just fed up with typical everyday life bullshit. And Justice for All never lets me down.
This song is one of my favorites I didn't know why at first until I learned what it ment and realized how much I can relate to it and has and still helping through those emotions
This was my favorite song in the world at one point, as this was my first Metallica album; I was 12 turning 13 years old in summer of '96. Thanks, Lilly. I like the way you've been mixing the music video/lyric videos. If there is a music video available then do it. I think maybe the people will let you know of a particularly song is more about the lyrics or the video.
This and The Outlaw Torn are my favorites off of Load! I’d recommend checking out Low Man’s Lyric and Fixxxer, especially the live version at the 40th Anniversary Concert as it was its live premiere
Damn, I hadn't listened to this song in years! It is a good one, one of the best on the album. I didn't love Load or Re-Load when they came out and as a guy in my early 20s, I didn't get it. I definitely appreciate both albums more now, and I like that Metallica changed and grew, and as fans we did too. I saw them multiple times on both of these tours, and they were awesome. I always go back to songs like Escape or Sanitarium when I'm feeling low. Great video Lilly!
My favorite metallica song. I always viewed it as Fade To Black part 2. Its taken own a different meaning and just being overwelmed by decisions, good or bad, you have to live with.
Fade to black is my favorite by far. Well done here Lilly. This song is an emotional roller coaster yet has a solution at the end that ties everything together in a black leather-bound package.
One of the best songs on the album. And one of the best solos Kirk ever played! And by the way, I think he says "oh bleed me", not "oh baby" as the creator of the lyric video suggests.
I've been a Metallica fan for over 30 year's and I'll be one of the first to admit that when this album came out I was shocked at how different it was and it took me a while to appreciate it! Now I'd be lying if I said the whole album is great but there are some great songs on it the main 2 being this and the outlaw torn which for me are 2 of Metallica's best song's! Great reaction as always!!
For this era of the band, this one and "Until It Sleeps" are the 2 best from this album. I'm unapologetically an 80s Metallica fan, but I begrudge them nothing for wanting to expand/experiment, it takes nothing away from the earlier masterworks...it's just Different. This track definitely gives off a Pink Floyd kinda vibe at times, really cool.
For me, Of Wolf and Man is my pick me up track, and Through the Never, they remind me that we are only on this tiny ball of rock for a such a short time, we should revel in our nature, and love each other.
I’ve been waiting for you to get here for a while. Great reaction. Now , I can’t wait for Outlaw Torn. And FIXXER, but that’s me getting ahead of myself. Keep ‘em coming! 🙏🏽🫶🏽🤘🏾
Same here, but unfortunately, those reactors are influenced by the comments from people that say shit like "Only a certain point of Metallica is what you should react to" or "Metallica's first 4 or 5 albums are worth checking out, the rest of them suck." or etc.
Loved the reaction as always. Regarding your question at 0:15, I don't think that music videos should ever be your first exposure to a song; when you just react to the song on its own, it gives you a chance to just sit back and consume the song the way it was meant to be consumed/just focus on the music and lyrics - like you've done in this reaction - and not have to wrap your head around another element which can often distract, and sometimes even detract, from the song, especially if the music video is more of a storyline and not much to do with the song. Take "Crown of Barbed Wire", for example - even though I know you liked (or were at least intrigued by) the video, I feel like it was pretty distracting and your initial reaction to the song itself might have been different if you just focused on the song and didn't react to the video first-up.
Load, the sleeper album. Soo much good stuff, and the whole album is pretty solid. First timeI listened to it was coming back home from boot camp in 1996. Now at 47, the album resonates with me more. Guess I'm relistening to the album this afternoon at work. Thanks Lilly Jane!!❤
I like the lyric videos because they are less likely to get blocked...however there are certain videos where the lyric videos do not do the songs justice.
This and Outlaw Torn are my favorite off this album 🤘
Same!!!!!!
Same.
I have the lyrics tattooed on my arm.
Agreed!

Load's incredible when you get into it. It's just a different side of an amazing band
James in a interview said this is one of his favorite to sing
Bleeding me and The Outlaw Torn are my 2 favorites from Load

(That’s a borderline boomer reference.)

Song saved my life…. Thank you for this🤙
this is legit one of metallica's best songs.
Yes , easily a top 10 song in their entire catalog
Hate the song so bad
Lol@@justwhippin
The version of this song with the San Francisco Symphony in 1999 is also amazing!
THAT WHOLE ALBUM WAS AMAZING!

He's only played it live a couple times....?
@@BannedPhotoshop164 times is more than a couple…They’ve done it every time I’ve seen them
I remember them playing this in the '90's. James definitely put everything into it. Amazing.
@@BannedPhotoshop I think you got some wrong information somewhere. They play this song a lot

the version with the symphony orchestra is incredible
It's one of the best and his vocals shine
