It was his decision to leave Metallica, he didnt get fired so theres no reason to be bashing the band. I know he left because of the tight grip that James and Lars had on Metallica but he knew that from day 1 when he joined.

I've been a metal head probably longer than you have been alive. First time I saw Merallica they were still an opening act and not well known yet. As far as Newsted I've been a fan of his playing since rhe early Flotsam and Jetsam days. So I think all your assumptions are wrong.
Jason is the kind of guy you could trust with your life if you're his friend. All he wanted to do was not let anyone down . The fans and his band mates. It's impossible to know the future but I'm sure Cliff didn't expect to die and it was such a shock when it happened. I know Cliff would've been proud to have Jason to take care of bass.
Newsted is the man. So cool to see him healthy and happy. Got to meet him years ago during the Load tour. He gave each one of us a few minutes. This was before people had to pay for a meet and greet. My buddy got backstage passes for us from his friend who was a radio guy and when he told me he thought of me first when he got the passes because im a die hard Metallica fan for life. It was so cool and Jason was the only one who came out yo see us. There were only about 10 people who were lucky enough to get backstage but I was just so stoked and Newsted was so damn cool to us. We talked about Sepultura and how much Arise kicked fuckin ass. I asked him about the Flosam Song Hammerhead and told him it's one of my favorite songs of any metal band ever and he said thanks man. The other Guys in the band didn't come out to see us but Newsted fuckin did and he wore the Flaming skull Metallica shirt that night so I bought one too 😆. I still have it and don't wear it too much because it's a keepsake from that show but now my daughter found it and loves it so i let her wear it once in a while 👍 so damn cool to see you get my all time favorite bass player in metal on your show. I could listen to Jason tell stories for days man. You got my subscription right now 🤝
Jason was, in my honest opinion, the most exciting member of Metallica during the Black Album era. He was absolutely ferocious live and I really miss his presence in the band. Thanks for all the Golden years, Jason. What an achievement 👏🏼 ❤️
I love My Friend of Misery. One of Metallica's best imho. The lyrics are also a great reminder to not take politricks too seriously or get caught up in all that. Excellent bass on the Black Album over all. Cheers man!
Great to hear from Jason again. He was something of an idol of mine growing up, I had the "Newsted" hair cut and a close enough looking 5 string bass. Man just has a great attitude.

My first Metallica show was back in 94 on the Summer Sh*t Tour with Candlebox (replacing AIC), Suicidal Tendencies and Fight (Rob Halford Band), and watching Jason playing was amazing, he was a beast on stage. To me there are two Metallica eras, Cliff and Jason; Trujillo looks more than a bass session player, the guy is amazing, but Jason's legacy will last forever and I really hope that in a near future we could see Jason doing a world tour once again for the sake of the metal community, we deserve it.

This is the guy that is responsible for connecting with so many people because he too was a fan of the band and a member. He is so talented and I really loved the echobrain project, Newsted and his other side gigs. i never bought another album after Garage Inc. Its always a pleasure hearing a new interview and catching up with him.
I got too see Metallica with cliff on the killem all your and ride the lightning. Cliff died and we went to see Metallica with Jason. Just after he joined. He blew everyone away. He was awesome. Sadly he left and Metallica did too.

WOW....Jason said, The Black Album went Double Platinum in Malaysia. Yes...Metallica was one of the band that bring huge impacts to many of Metal bands, Metalhead and musician in Malaysia. But....only in 2013 they played live in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I remember, in the early set that night, James apologies to all the Malaysian fans, because its a late for Metallica to perform in Malaysia. They should come here maybe 20 years ago. For your information, after that show, Malaysian fans remembered the live date as a Hari Metallica Malaysia (Malaysia Metallica Day).

One of the biggest injustices ever, the fact that James wasn't able to accept Jason doing both his solo album and being in MetallicA. So many musicians do that nowadays, it was such an easy call to make. Makes you want to rewind to 2001 and convince James in any way possible.

Truth be told, Jason is kicking himself to this day about leaving the band. He won't admit it, but he DOES regret his decision. Robert Trujillo is now the longest tenured bass player in the bands history.
I don't think he is - I feel like that's projection from the fans. We all wish he was still in the band, but ultimately it's James and Lars' fault for fumbling that.

Misery is the most underrated song on the Black album because everyone is featured......one of Kirk's best solos. The God That Failed is the second best song.

Jason's Spector bass on The Black Album was such a massive influence on me as a 15 year-old buying his first cheap-ass bass. Now, 30 years later, I have slightly more expensive basses.
