That should fix your Resolve UI monitoring, but please use this setting with caution. It's not colour critical. Great tutorial, thanks. On my Ipad Pro the image has too much contrasts on both HDR & SDR in comparison with my first screen and Oled cleanfeed. The DaVinci app for Ipad also has the same issue and I have no Idea why. It's probably the gamma settings that is incorrect between DaVinci software and the iPad screen. Beside this it's working perfectly great !
Thanks so much for watching. The iPad is not reference grade… but there is a chance your monitors might be setup incorrectly and the iPad is the more accurate image. Has your primary monitor been calibrated with a probe?

I have used this app for a while now and I noticed that whenever I am streaming HDR, the highlights are massively clipped on my iPad screen, but not on the scopes. If I turn the brightness down on my iPad, the issue goes away. Also, for example if I export and view the output on my iPad separately, the brightness is different. Why does the iPad not display the image properly?
Hello! Yeah, I've seen that too. I think it's something to do with the way ColorSync works. It's the same on a MacBook with XDR display too. It's something to do with the fact that the screen goes upto 1600 nits. When the display brightness is turned up above 1000 nits HDR values start to clip. The good news that turning the brightness down to somewhere about half way fixes the issue. On a MacBook this can be solved by putting the screen into the 1000 nits mode. Sadly I don't think there is a similar mode on the iPad. In short, I think it's an apple issue. Not a Blackmagic issue.
Yes there is a desktop version. It's bundled with the Studio version of Resolve. I appreciate that's frustrating for people who do not have a studio license of Resolve. I'm not sure if this is something that will be rectified in the future.
An important question: Doesn't the iPad Pro *have to be* in reference mode to show an accurate image? Otherwise an arbitrary brightness setting client-side would affect the picture ? Another question: In the video, your iPad is hardwired to your computer. Is this a feature of Remote Monitoring to reduce latency in the signal, or are you just charging your iPad ?
That’s a great question. Yes reference mode really helps eliminate variables. It won’t magically make your iPad screen calibrated or more accurate. It turns off things like dynamic display adjustments, such as True Tone, Auto-Brightness and Night Shift. Although viewing a 100nit display in a bright room will also provide challenges. So there are scenarios when viewing with a higher nit value might be appropriate. Controlling the screen brightness is just one aspect of providing an accurate viewing experience. The environment is also important and reference mode can’t control that 😂🤣 The hardwired connection was for power and Ethernet. It will run happily over WiFi though. I hope that helps! Thanks for watching.

Yeah it can be. But with some caveats. It's not possible to load calibration profiles into an iPad or iPhone. Fortunately, Apple have very consistent QC. An iPad is not a colour critical display. You could evaluate it against a colour critical display and produce a LUT that's used to modify the remote monitoring output. On the other hand there are benefits to not profiling it, as in it's native configuration it will allow you to gauge what it will be like for people to watch your content on a normal uncalibrated device.

I use DVR studio, when I select remote monitoring I get an OpenCL error. Maybe because I use a Sapphire NITRO+ Radeon RX 7900 XTX Vapor-X AMD 24 GB GDDR6 GPU?
Remote Monitoring is only compatible with NVIDIA cards, sorry! I’m pretty sure that is still the case. It’s probably in the system requirements.
@team2films thanks for reply. Do you know of any other studio features that don't work without Nvidia GPU?
Hi, I am trying the remote monitor function of DaVinci Studio 19.0.3. I have purchased Studio version on a current Win 10 system.
This should actually be easy. But unfortunately I don't get any code displayed after starting a session.
On my Macbook Pro it works (I activate a session via: Workspace - Remote Monitoring) and then I see a copyable code. On the Windows computer I do not see this code... What am I doing wrong?
What graphics card are you using?
@@team2films I´m running an Nvidea RTX 3060. The components of my system are: DV Resolve Studio 19.0.3, Windows 10, Grafic: Asus Nvidia RTX 3060, CPU: AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3960X, RAM 128GB, MB: ASUS ROG STRIX TRX40-XE
@@Kai-abreschDeyeah that should work. Post a message and screenshot in the official blackmagic forum. That’s the best place to get help resolving this
There is no remote monitoring item in the workspace, what is the cause?
Do you have a studio license?
thank you!
You're welcome!
I could use remote monitoring to use my imac as a second monitor with my Macbook Pro
Yes, that's a cool idea!
I am using a windows computer which supports the remote monitoring app, but im using an iphone to view the session. I tried all the settings, however im getting horizontal lines on my video on my iphone app. Do you know how to fix it?
Ah, that’s annoying. I’m not sure as I’ve not seen that. Have you tried the blackmagic forums?
I have, but no one seems to have that issue. It’s crazy cause I definitely love this feature as it’s an amazing tool. Being that it’s in beta I’m sure updates will happen that’ll fix bugs. But thanks anyways. If you happen to find an answer let me know
Great tutorial. Unfortunately mine crashes when trying to connect. Rtx 3060 should be good enough I guess?
Yes that should be good enough, sorry it's crashing. It's a brand new feature. Please report it on the Blackmagic Forum.
This can be used as - viewing monitor also right ? If display is calibrated and it should give one to one match right ?
Yeah it can be. But with some caveats. It's not possible to load calibration profiles into an iPad or iPhone. Fortunately, Apple have very consistent QC. An iPad is not a colour critical display. You could evaluate it against a colour critical display and produce a LUT that's used to modify the remote monitoring output.
On the other hand there are benefits to not profiling it, as in it's native configuration it will allow you to gauge what it will be like for people to watch your content on a normal uncalibrated device.
@@team2films I am 100% going to use this as reference monitor without any color profile., cause now days 80% people using iPhone, and grading according to iPhone give best result in iPhone, anyway thank you for replying with such efforts
If you're wondering why you can't find the button, it's because the title of this video should include the STUDIO word in it's name. You have to have studio version of daVinci resolve (paid version). I have nothing against that, I was just wondering why I can't see the option in the menu, that's all.
Great point. Title updated. Thanks for watching.
@@team2films but how can one download the studio version on an IPAD. I coudn´t find that option on the APP store
@@danielaranyo If you want to monitor from your iPad you need the Remote Monitoring app. It's available in the App Store. I'm not sure you can stream from your iPad though. I think you need the desktop version to host a remote monitoring session.
can you add this ap to my iMac computer? or a laptop
Yes, It’s included with the studio installer for Resolve.
thanks for the reply are you saying that the client has to download the free version of resolve first?
@@garychuntz1450 the client can watch for free using the iOS app. The desktop app is bundled with studio. Therefore they will need a studio license to watch from a desktop OS.
Thanks again very helpful. although I think most clients would want to watch your session on their laptops, and therefore you are saying they need a full studio license to do so. I was hoping that this would work directly on there laptops with the DaVinci remote ap, maybe soon?
how you found the session code?
It's in the window down in the bottom right.
@@team2films thx !
Question.: Can i use it if I have the free version 18.5 beta on PC not mac and the app is on the Iphone?
I guess no. Because I can't find the option in the workspace... :|
Sadly you need the studio version to host a stream.
"Connection timed-out" error on iPhone
Sorry to hear you are having problems.
Any Solution ? @@team2films
When using remote monitor app with a studio License on a pc (also with a calibrated Monitor). I get washed-out colors. Compared to a Zoom-stream (that I as an alternative), the zoom look much closer to the Monitor that send the remote signal. Does anybody know what issue that is?
Hello, I'm not too sure as I mainly use Mac computers. Perhaps it has something to do with the colour management or lack of colour management on your PC? Can you provide any more info about your project setup?
I'm on studio 18.5 but its greyed out and i can't click it? I'm signed in to my account as well...any help? MacBook Pro M1 MAX
No, I’m so sorry, I’m not sure. Do you have a paid Blackmagic Cloud account?
@@team2films i do..
@@sommerproductions_ch Hey, If you have an AMD GPU it won't work.
The Resolve Host must have the following hardware and software requirements for DaVinci Remote Monitor:
- The Resolve Host needs to have the Mac, Linux, or Windows version of DaVinci Resolve Studio installed.
- For Linux and Windows users, the Resolve Host needs an RTX series NVIDIA GPU and drivers installed. AMD and Intel GPUs are currently unsupported.
- The Host must have a Blackmagic Cloud account.
I have DaVinci Resolve Studio and it keeps crashing when I try to monitor the screen on a separate device. Do I need to have a paid Blackmagic Cloud account for it to work?
No, I don't think it requires a paid account. Sorry you are having trouble. Have you tried upgrading to the latest version?
I dont see the option. I have studio version , and 18.5 davinchy . but dont see Remote Monitoring :/
Is your GPU Nvidia or AMD?
Hi @@team2films Which one is the one that works?
Nvidia is supported. I don’t think AMD is.
Does it work on an iMac as a remote monitor? And where would I find it?

Question: What would be stopping me from being able to enable remote monitoring? I signed up for Blackmagic Design Cloud and tried to follow all the steps but I can't enable it. I have a studio license.
That's a good question! I'm so sorry, but I'm not sure. All you need is a studio license and a Blackmagic cloud account. If you are still having problems I'd suggest trying the Blackmagic official forum.
And for Android?? 😢
Nothing for android. Sorry.
It won't connect to my iPhone 11 Pro Max. Does it use Wifi? My motherboard has no wifi transmitter (Asus X99-a II)... but apparantly you don't need a wifi connection to use this feature. I don't understand what's wrong then..
It connects via the internet. WiFi is not needed on your motherboard as long as you have a wired internet connection.
@@team2films Thanks for the fast reply! I do have a very fast wired connection, but it just won't work.. no matter the codec and bitrate i'm setting in the window. It says ''Please wait... The host will let you join shortly.'' Then it says ''Connection timed-out''. I also tried to check/uncheck the ''automatically accept connections'' box, but it doesn't change anything. @@davidmultimedia2024 Heya David. Sorry I don't have a solution. If you have another computer, I'd suggest experimenting on that, so you can eliminate possibilities. It doesn't appear that option.
It's a studio only feature.
Do i have to buy Davinci?
The free version is amazing! Remote Monitoring is only available in the studio license though.
clearly your HDR setting didn't come out right on the ipad there in the video.
Hello, the HDR views correctly on the iPad. Apologies if that didn't come across properly on camera.
So beauty
Hope the tutorial is helpful.
Looks like a great feature. Annoyingly I upgraded to a new AMD GPU the week before this was announced and it only works with Nvidia GPUs (PC) Let's hope it can use all varieties of graphic cards by the time it comes out of beta.
Ah, that's frustrating. I think the dev team are working on that though. Thanks for watching the video.
Remote monitoring has been around for a while. 18.5 new method of connecting just made it easier.

@@christianmbabazi9722 The remote monitoring client app is available on Windows, Mac, Linux, iPhone and iPad. You can host a Remote monitoring session from Windows, Mac or Linux.
Having clients needing a Blackmagic ID is ridiculous. It pretty much kills this feature.
Yes that is an extra step that is required. But accounts are free.
It doesn't work for any Radeon user's. U need to be Nvidia GPU owner only. Monopoly?
We assume that it must be using a specific piece of nvidia hardware to make it happen. Sorry that it doesn’t work with AMD.
Just found out this is only available with Nvidia graphics cards. Dangit.
So sorry!
@@team2filmsDo you know of any other features in davinci resolve studio that don't work without Nvidia GPU?
you need pro?
Yes. A studio licenses and an active Blackmagic cloud account are required.
here is app, no we will not give link to download
The app is bundled with the Studio download.
how can clients get the app for their laptops?! If they can't this is totally useless!
You can't depend on a software that only works for mobile. Clients have laptops!
Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
The app is included in the Studio installation of DaVinci Resolve. It's available on Windows, Mac and Linux.
Yes, very much aware that clients have laptops 🤣 Calling it totally useless if it's not usable on a laptop might be a little unbalanced. As iPads are incredibly popular, it's a viable solution for streaming edits and grades to clients. Plus colour management on iOS is reasonably accurate and predictable (not saying it's perfectly accurate, but for many scenarios it's sufficient).
It's a great solution, and I'm sure Blackmagic will continue to improve it in future releases.
@@team2films you can't send an email to a client saying they can only do a remote session with you if they have an ipad. You CAN tell them they can only do it if they have an apple product. 100% of clients have an apple device, but 60-80% don't have an ipad, or would prefer to use their macbook pro, which they update regularly as it's a necessity of work. The color is very accurate and I would LOVE to use this as my primary remote grading solution. But basically if I said, "if everyone has an ipad we'll do this, but if you don't we'll use evercast, well I'm just stuck paying for evercast either way, as it's a monthly fee and most clients have laptops. They're crippling this feature for no reason. This is exactly what everyone needs, and they're making sure it's possible, but they don't have it.
The only realy BIG problem is "NO ANDROID" version !
Yes true. BM is currently bringing the camera app to android. Perhaps it will bring the remote monitoring app too in the future.
