    Interesting video. I've got 2 Everlast MTS welders which work great. Paul, Look into the camera instead of the cue cards off to your right. Jeff learned that early and does a great job explaining things (welding too)!! Just an observation! LOL

      Poor Paul can't get a break, I think Mikala was in the studio the day they were taping. Actually, what I heard , not positive, the producer rules with a long whip and does not allow any Cue Cards....but I may be mistaken......

    And the DC TIG/Scratch start too!

    • @marklugo6002
      @marklugo6002 2 года назад

      No its not. No setting for it. It doesn't have Amp control or stable amps due to arc force and hot start.

    • @NewJerusalemTimes
      @NewJerusalemTimes 2 года назад +2

      @Paul Sableski Right, and variable amperage control, i.e., via a pedal, isn't really required for DC TIG, especially on thicker DC TIG, I mean, pipeliners don't use a pedal doing their root passes with TIG. My first TIG unit was cheap a DC TIG/Stick/Plasma combo-unit that didn't come with an optional pedal or other amptrol device (it did have HF Start and a gas solenoid as standard), but I never got a pedal or other amptrol device for it, because DC TIG can be done much like MIG or Stick, i.e., with adjustment at the panel as needed and speeding up or slowing the travel speed and filler, while also using a gas valve style TIG torch. So, the DC TIG with Scratch Start isn't a published feature on this cool, new unit, but is shown on the video to be quite doable, obviously.

    • @marklugo6002
      @marklugo6002 2 года назад +2

      @Paul Sableski Yes, but the fact that the unit doesnt' have built in gas control AND Amps will fluctuate quite noticeably while welding will cause customer dissatisfaction. This is due to the fact that arc force control cannot be turned off. It can be minimized, but between it and hot start you are going to have issues for those looking at it for TIG purposes. We've been there, done that already and is why we are not saying it is a TIG machine. We will have something like that later.

    • @NewJerusalemTimes
      @NewJerusalemTimes 2 года назад +1

      @@marklugo6002 Oh, you're Mark, from Everlast. Yeah, you'd know better than me, of course. So, that's why it's not a published feature, I get that now. I mean, your two (market-firsts, as lineage from the STi units) Lightning models are brilliant for people who want one unit to do advanced AC/DC TIG (including extra waveforms) and MIG welding too. So, WOW, if Everlast has one unit that adds Plasma to a Lightning-like unit.

    Nice review, guys.
    I do some hobby welding but I never went to school, so I don't know this answer: Why is current referred to in volts for mig but amps for stick?

    • @lukeson1377
      @lukeson1377 2 года назад +1

      Current, by definition, is always measured in amps.

    • @marklugo6002
      @marklugo6002 2 года назад +4

      It isn't referred to as current in MIG. In MIG you have Volts and Wire Speed. Wire Speed controls amperage. If wire speed and type/diameter of wire is known, you can figure amperage. But the amount of wire delivered in inches per minute controls the actual amperage of the weld. Current refers only to amps. If someone uses it otherwise, it is a confusion of the terms or a wrong use.

    • @joneking558
      @joneking558 2 года назад +2

      For those interested in portable repair operations, the unit requires just 8500 Surge watts of clean (5% or less THD) 240V power to operate from a generator. (Consult generator manufacturer about THD level prior to purchase of generator to confirm that it meets 5% or less THD.) from the spec sheet online.

      @@ypaulbrown You may not be aware but Everlast's color was on the cutting edge of the green tool revolution, well before green became a popular color. Guess what? People love it. We hear it all the time. I'm not sure what your degree is in, but it may need updating. There is a huge demand for green colored tools in the industry, so much so, that all the major hand tool companies are producing a green line. In fact, even Milwaukee which is known for their red color is producing green colored tools for their customers because the demand is through the roof. This has been a trend now for over 10 years.

      Everlast introduced the MIG/TIG/Stick compact units in 2009. They came out with their MIG/AC/DC TIG/Stick over a year before ESAB did. Everlast pioneered and developed this product type, and its well documented. The rebel doesn't even have AC wave form control or pulse on AC on their unit still, and Everlast has had it on their MTS units since late 2016In fact they are making the rebel in an old Everlast factory.
