- We spent the day looking for some of the spiciest things to eat in Chengdu to see if this is really the spiciest city in China?
Chengdu is known for it's rich Sichuan cuisine and mouth numbing Sichuan peppers but is there more to the cuisine than just spice? We meet back up with our friend Billy who talks us through all the different flavour profiles that Sichuan food has.

This program is too good to taste. You are real wonderful couple.
Another thing I want to praise you is that all you eat your Chinese meals you all hold your bowls to your mouths.
Even now many Chinese forget this basic politeness thing.
Thank you for you did this.
Thank you very much! Honestly it’s more so we don’t spill it on our clothes as we are messy eaters. But next time I will remember this too! 🤣
Chengdu is food heaven! I hope you can restart your China vlogs. So much more to explore and to record and to share.
It sure is! So many good things to try. Thanks so much I agree there is so much more to see!
Hi Nico, I watched your videos since 2021. I moved to Beijing recently after seeing and being inspired by your videos. Hope your Chengdu days are going great.
Thank you so much! I’m so happy to hear you’ve enjoyed our videos and that you have moved to Beijing. I hope you have a great time there. We hope to come back to China soon.
how brave you are!😂
Thank you! 🤣
Chinese cooking is the best in the World , that's Why Enjoy !
Visited Chengdu in 2018 some of the best food I've ever eaten.
looks good!
Wow, all the dishes look sooooo appetizing. 😋
They were! Such a great time in Chengdu trying all the food.
I love this food !!!! Sichuan food is great ❤
It really is!
So funny to see your and Jack's reactions to the spicy aftertaste!😂 Are you going back to China soon?
Thanks! I’m pleased you enjoyed it. We are hoping to come back soon! Maybe in the Autumn.
i live in Chengdu, and it's spicyish but not too bad... i've never tasted anything as spicy as the food from Zigong however.
Zigong's food was absolute hellfire in a pot!
Yeah I agree I think it has a bad rep like Chongqing but it’s really not that bad. Ooohhh ok good to know maybe we can try there when we get back to China!
nice video as always
Thank you very much!
Very nice video !
Thank you very much!
"Bum burner"? Wow, I am definitely gonna have to use that next time I'm having Sichuan food! 😅
Hahaha I’m pleased you liked it!
Hahaha I’m pleased you liked it!
I'm originally from Sichuan, but I must admit that the spiciest food I've had is from Jiangxi province.
So many people have mentioned Jiangxi we need to go! Where would you recommend?
@@Nicofilms Pingxiang City, near Wugong Mountain
Jiang Xi is one of the most underdeveloped provinces in Southern China and the food is unbearable and too spicy. No need to mention it.
I wanna try ! You are brave !
Thank you! You should!
I don't think I can try that hot and spicy dishes, even I'm a Chinese, you guys are bold😂
Hahaha thank you very much! 🤣
Maybe next time try spicy food in JIANGXI
Ok!! Where would you recommend?
Nico, are you still in NZ? I just got back from three weeks in China again. And rave about the boiled fish in oil and buckets of chillies. Had it twice now and hard to explain how delicious it is. And the beanshoots in the deep end still so crunchy. Wish I could add a pic.
Mmm you are making me drool just thinking about it. No we are back in the UK now for the summer.
Whenever there's a video on Sichuan food, I click.
Pleased to hear it! We love Sichuan food!
It helps to prevent or soothe the ring of fire if you take a couple of anti acids before and after.
🤣🤣🤣 thanks for the tip!
hi Nico, long time no see, great video, are you still in china?
Hi, welcome back! Thanks a lot. No we filmed all these videos before we left China and have just been releasing them throughout the year. Hopefully we’ll get back soon!
you bet
boboji is still my favourite
Uh oh... 😅 not a fan of spicy and chillies but still this video made me super hungry 😂
Hahaha well you can have the non spicy alternatives that we had at the end don't worry!
@@Nicofilms hahaha 😋👍
The food was deliciius apparently.
It sure was haha
man this looks tasty
It was so good!
I would die if I ate this 🤣 you did well!
🤣🤣🤣 it’s not too bad just need to get the spice tolerance up!
Hi Nico, I have watched some of your videos and am curious about something. I want to go to China to teach, but I have found some agencies that search for ESL teachers that seem very dubious... So I am wondering, have you got any advice to give in how to find an English teaching job in China?
Thank you very much and continue doing great videos :)
Hi, thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately there are some dubious agencies out there. The laws changed a few years ago and a lot of companies shut down. It seems like the only places now are schools. Unfortunately I haven't been a teacher in China for many years so I'm not familiar with the best way to do it anymore. The only advice I can give is do your research on that school and see if you can speak to any foreigners that work there to get their opinion on what it is like :)
@@Nicofilms Hi, thank you very much for your reply and your advice. I'll do just that and hopefully soon, I'll be able to find a good job in China. Once again thank you and good luck for your future!
🤣 thanks!
When we come back to China we’ll have to try.
Jiangxi 😂😂
🤣 thanks!
Thanks a lot! Welcome to our channel!
I can never understand the appeal of super spicy food. To me, it just masks the true taste of what you're going to eat.
Luckily in Sichuan the taste has many layers not just spicy 😄
I think I can handle the spicy food but as I get older my tolerance of hot food will drop.
I feel like the older I get the better but that’s also because we’ve been living in China 🤣
@@Nicofilms my mother was born in Chongqing and her brother used to live in Chengdu.
@@jliang70 Wow your tolerance must be very high then! haha
Sichuan is definitely not the spiciest, it is unique for numb and spicy
your video is more watchable now compared to your monologue ones
Pleased you enjoy them!
Did you guys move back to China?
No we filmed these videos before we left. Hopefully we’ll go back in the Autumn!
W.O.W
Everythin so advanced in China, you actually used your Phone to order the food and trace the food cookin process….sumtin hard to find in *Britain,ENG.* 🏴 (where you need a Waiter/tress to handwrite your order on a piece of paper :)
haha yeah! I'm really surprised now when I can do things on my phone in the UK as in China you use it for literally everything!
Mao! Bao! Mao! Bao! LMHO
40% of the trational sichuan dishes are non-spicy ones, just like the cantonese FYI, follow the michelin guide and you will find it, FYI
go to Jiangxi and you will know what the real spicy is...
So many people have said that, we really need to go. Where would you recommend?
And I… have become comfortably numb. 🥵😂🤣
🤣🤣🤣 I’m going to think about this the next time I have Sichuan food.
I think Jiangxi is the craziest provience for spicy(┬┬﹏┬┬) I believe I can survive in Sichuan but not so confident in Jiangxi.
Oh wow! Good to know I think we need to go. Where would you recommend?
We need to try Jiangxi where would you recommend?
You haven't be in Nanchang city yet hehehe
No we haven’t, I think we really need to go 🤣
The most exqusite Sichuan dish are not spicy at all 😂
Hot food!
how lucky u are!
I wonder what's Billy's Chinese accent. Definitely not Sichuan. I want to say Taiwan.
zihur
Brave
hahaha
No! HuNan is the spiciest
We’ll have to go to compare!
