Being a DEI hire doesn't necessarily mean that you're not quilified for the job, but as soon as Biden said that he wanted a black woman as his VP, that absolutely made Kamala a DEI hire!
But it ensures that your qualifications will always be questioned. As soon as immutable characteristics are interjected, no one will ever be sure. Brown-Jackson will always be known as the chick who became a Supreme Court Justice because of her skin tone. It's unfair to her and us.

Like Krystal said, It's the same for Pence and Biden as well. Vp's are picked, not because of how good they do policy wise. It's just to gain votes from their base. That's all.

But every time Krystal mentioned Biden, Pence, JD Vance, Sarah Palin etc all being chosen for VP because they were White. They all were chosen to appeal to certain groups of White voters in these swing states.. Why doesn’t Sagaar ever find those DEI hires off putting? 😊😂😅
DEI is not confined to race...everybody who would call Kamala a DEI presidential candidate would say the same thing about Buttigieg. Given jobs they didn't earn because they checked various demographical boxes. Period.
Who would be the candidate then Dean Phillips or Maryanne Williamson, can't be RFK he's independent in the presidential race. Late in the year at close of primaries, not ideal but she was on ticket with Biden. If there was a push for a party convention vote including Maryanne & Dean I wouldn't be opposed. The problem is campaign funding needs an early start and they are able to use the 91 mil Biden and her already raised. I would rather have Maryanne who is waay more in favor of working general public.
@@holdenmuganda97It matters because it is pandering. It also hurt the Democratic Party because there is no way someone can honestly say that Kamala was the best VP choice. She was the worst. She was so bad during her presidential campaign that she had to drop out before the California primary. If they wanted a black woman as VP, there were so many better choices. She was the worst choice out of every black woman politician they could have chosen. She is uncharismatic, insincere, she often dodges uncomfortable topics and laughs instead of facing them head on. She hasn’t been very present during the Biden presidency. As a VP she has mostly been in the background. She was so unpleasant to work with that most of her staff took other jobs. Many staffers felt uncomfortable with her.
Saager that’s like me saying you only got your job because you are Indian. You may not agree with affirmative action but people of color would be passed over if not for it.
She is literally DEI! Four years ago Biden and everyone else made that explicitly clear! Biden said he was going to pick a woman and prominent black lobbyists told Biden he had to pick a black woman and gave Biden a short list of VP candidates with Kamala’s name! Biden cited DEI in his statement selecting her as VP! If the democrats believe in DEI so much they should own their policy! And not that it matters but I’m black btw
You're so dumb, krystal is obviously correct here. If you think she's trying have her cake and eat it too, you don't understand the nuance in her argument, lol
I don’t think either of them made a great argument for their respective sides. Krystal defends Harris from these racialized attacks while glazing over Harris’s own track record as a DA. Saagar just complains about DEI like the democrats are actually raising the issue when I’ve only heard conservatives talk about DEI since the Supreme Court ruling. Maybe stop trying to choose a winner; instead analyze how both left and right members of the media serve themselves.
Seems like she has clarity and Saagar has blinders. When it's Affirmative Action one way, but in all other areas like being White or Christian it's not. Krystal asks Saagar when he was complaining about it and he couldn't bring up an instance
You can call the other guy the bad guy from WW2, talk about his weird penis, tiny hands etc. But the slightest criticism at her and "Muh racisms, muh misogyny"
Krystal definitely makes a good point about VP picks typically being based on identity politics, but she misses something that really sets Harris apart from Pence or Biden. When Biden was choosing a VP, he promised that he would choose a black woman beforehand. This artificially limited his choices to a regrettably small number of candidates. As someone else in the comments mentioned, since VPs don’t do much, this wasn’t that big of a deal until she was elevated to the presidential nomination without a primary. Now I may be wrong on this, but to my knowledge neither Trump nor Obama ever committed to choosing an evangelical or a white man as VP. Those identity politics surely factored into the calculation, and I have no idea to what extent, but at least they were not initially established as the top priority. If Harris, or any other black woman, were to rise to the top organically, that would be fantastic, but it’s simply not what happened.
Pence was chosen because of his religion. Biden was chosen because he was white. Bush used to hold up rice as a token blk person. If trump choose a black man or woman you think they wouldn’t tout their race?
I agree - Krystal makes some really good points and specifically about VP choices in general. I think what makes Kamala a little different is that she was otherwise pretty unqualified for the job. The real comp would be to Sarah Pali, not Pence or Biden. However, I agree with Krystal that this is a losing argument for Rs, and especially when they're doing it in this ham handed way trying to score points and go viral.

By your definition every white male should always shut up about anythign race related. You know like the comment you just made. You are hopefully not white and male are you?
Biden was chosen by Obama because he was white male who would appeal to Former Dixiecrats in the south. Does that also count as a DEI hire, or is the term just for non-whites and women?
@@sandragomez4757 Yes because Saagar never expresses emotion and that is some how a good thing. To be passionless and emotionless, which is partly the definition for a sociopath.
It’s always Saagar directly answering Krystal’s questions and then Krystal refusing to engage with the points he actually made and doing whataboutisms.
I mean that’s why any VP is picked. To reach voters that the main candidate wouldn’t reach. That’s the exact reason why Biden was president. It’s why Trump picked Pence. Surprisingly enough it seems that politically appointed positions make use of convenient politics. Who would’ve thought.
Does DEI equate to her being terrible political candidate? JD vance nearly lost his senate race on ruby Red Ohio to a liberal while his other Republican counterparts won their races very comfortably. How come that him being a terrible political candidate didn’t stop him from being chosen by Trump as his VP? He was chosen because they wanted to appeal to the White working class people in swing states. But that kind of DEI is okay for you on the right but DEI for blacks is unacceptable. Right? 👍🤦♂️🤣
@airforcex9412 the knock on DEI is that it puts underqualified people into positions they wouldn't have otherwise earned. Krystal is saying she isn't qualified. They are saying the same thing, only Saagar provides DEI as the explanation.
You guys are hilarious. He is purposely ignoring the fact that DEI is only used about black people. DEI is not hiring poc AND white women that are not qualified. It’s making them add this qualified group to the pool and giving them a chance to be selected.
She literally is a DEI candidate. She was the worst candidate and had to drop out. They said they needed a “black female” for VP, not the best candidate, and selected her.
Remember all of the interviews Biden had with minority VP candidates. He chose the most qualified. She is qualified, not a DEI hire. She was a Senator... A hell of a Senator at that!!
@dankakron That's not correct he said he was choosing a woman, not a black woman. Warren and Klobachar were on his short list, too plus others. It wasn't race based. There were women of all different races considered.
All VP selections are "DEI" choices. Old White male Biden picked young Black female Kamala. He was trying to appeal to more constituencies. Now Kamala will pick a white man for her VP. Krystal is right that we should use these labels wherever they apply, and not solely use them to describe black ppl in power.
If Sagaar wants to speak, he'll speak. He's just being polite by allowing her to talk on an issue she clearly feels strongly about. I'm glad he did, because she had a lot of thoughtful things to say. Sagaar and Krystal seem to have a great work relationship. I'm sure that if it upset Sagaar, he'd be fully capable of addressing the issue with her in private. This is their job. If she talked too little, she'd be forcing him to work more than his fair share. I think it's pretty even across the board, although yes, Krystal does speak over him more often than the reverse- but I think that's just their personalities and dynamic.

I think what you are thinking of is color blind racism, which has been acceptable unfortunately since the 70s. Also, many DEI programs have not be rolled out with the best strategies, which sucks for many people. But if you are dealing with me in a company setting and the fact that I am a Black women never comes into your consciousness, that is weird and also not true. I'm curious based on your experience, do you believe that DEI is discrimination? If you have a goal to increase more diversity in leadership for instance, and you have a straight cis white man who has been doing everything he needs to in order to get into leadership and has accomplishments and qualifications, would you not be needing to block or delay his promotion to leadership in order to meet your goals?
@@taigenraine what if another straight cis white guy gets it? he still misses out, show me the people getting promotions who don't deserve it and i'll bet it's probly a straight cis white guy
@taigenraine yes DEI is racist. It doesn't matter if white people have held jobs of power in the past. You don't get to punish white people for the sins of 1% of the elite in the past. Nobody deserves a job advantage based on the color of their skin in 2024. Look at most of entertainment now a days, plenty of fan favorite shows and movies failing for prioritizing DEI.
Most organisations have a shallow approach to diversity and inclusion, i.e. it's about visible or the obvious, like race, gender, sexuality, religion, etc. In the initial wave the point is equal opportunity. The ultimate and most beneficial diversity and inclusion is simply this: everyone can show up as their unique selves, and all flavours are included. Imagine where everyone can show up as their authentic selves.. this is termed deep diversity and inclusion, and is beyond the usual identity labels. I imagine the problem is there are people/groups/culture-war-tribes who think justice is getting their piece of the pie?
Krystal continuously says white liberals vote for candidates to feel and show they aren't sexist or racist, but then claims Kamala was truly tested because she won elections in California-the epicenter of people who vote to prove they aren't bigots. I agree that California probably is like that, explaining how Kamala did well there but got the boot quickly on the national stage. This, however, shows she has never actually been tested and can only win over those who vote based on characteristics, not merit. I hope this isn't how America votes, as places that ignore merit for gimmicks are not long for this world.

Krystal, what you don't seem to be hearing is the only reason kamala got the job is because she is a black woman, which was announced as a requirement prior to her selection. There was a very small pool to choose from, so she got the job. The difference with her and other VPs is that when the other VPs were picked, even for demographic reasons, they were selected from much larger pools which allows attributes like competency to be taken into consideration.
So in your mind the only possible reason Harris could be picked is because she was black? No qualifications whatsoever? Joe Biden picked from a small pool of qualified black candidates. That is not the same thing as picking someone only because they are black. I'm not crazy about Kamala, but calling her a DEI hire is about the weakest attack anyone can levy against her. Lots to critique her on... but Kamala is far more qualified than half the white senators in the senate.
Who says competency was taken into account? Were you in the room when the decision was made? Or are you assuming her competency wasn’t taken into account? And since you say competency is taken into account when a larger pool is present, how exactly were Pence and Vance competent?
There is only one position to be filled, If you narrow the field by demographics it still leaves millions. Stop and think about what you're saying...lol
@stephenkelly8169 I'm not saying competency was taken into account, merely that it would be on the table as something to consider, and could be, since there are so many other potential candidates to choose from. Since he said he was going to pick a black woman as VP, what other prominent options were there? If he said he was going to pick an Asian man, for example, we'd all scratch our heads and say shouldn't it be whoever would do the best job, regardless of race or sex? Why narrow the selection pool so drastically based on merritless qualifications? Being a black woman is not a skill or set of attributes. To declare you are going to pick someone based on race and sex for a job (especially public office) is an example racism and sexism, whether you love it or hate it.
@rektscrub8800 millions of options? So every black woman in America was a viable option? There were no governors and only one senator to choose from, so it was no big mystery who would get the job and why. The president and his team are the most important people in the world wielding incomprehensible power and establish consequences that will last longer than they do. To pick someone based on nothing they've actually done or can do is insane. Why not only pick someone left handed? Or only someone 5 feet tall? We need the best. We keep getting shit. America is suffering for it.

The point isn't that 'she's a DEI pick'. It is that the selection of this idiot who believes in nothing is the evidence that the party believes ID politics matters more than a resume of achievement and capability.
Achievement? She's the sitting Vice-President, elected by 81 million voters. Prior to that she was a Senator and sat on critical committees like Intelligence, Homeland Security & Judiciary. She pushed for Bail reform and strengthened key provisions in the First Step Act that Trump brags about signing. Prior to being a Senator she was the Attorney General for the largest State in the nation and in that role held the big banks accountable to CA Homeowners in ways no other AG could. When the banks offered a settlement to all 50 States she was the only AG that walked away from the table and made them QUADROOPLE the number. How could an idiot achieve that? She had the California DOJ go after corporations that defrauded the public including fake colleges. She started the first Environmental Justice office in Cal DOJ. As a DA in the 2000's she was the first to implement a full reentry strategy known as Back on Track to reduce recidivism and it worked so well, that 20 years later that type of thing is the norm. That's achievement. But be honest, you didn't know any of that did you? Meanwhile, JD Vance has had 19 months in the Senate where he's accomplished Bupkis, and prior to that was Peter Thiel's errand boy who wrote 1 good book. And Donald inherited a fortune from his daddy. The only one in the lot with achievements is Kamala Harris buddy.
We have many DEI (Diversity) hires that are non black in business. The military, firefighters, Secret Service lowering physical fitness standards for women creates DEI personal. It doesn't have to be about race. It's about diversity, equity and inclusion rather than who has the best skills for the job
Ironically enough (although we live in the stupid era) is that women are very competent for a variety of occupations. In academic professions and research they use to be very good. Most Nobel prizes still go to men, nevertheless. But this has gone ridiculous. Like, who has a problem admitting that women are more skillful dealing with children? Nobody that I know. But it's necessary to put women and ethnic minorities everywhere! 🤦
What your wrote is completely wrong. People should only be hired based on Merit. It is exactly the one that has the best skills for the job. The end result of diversity, equity or inclusion should not matter. The one with the skills that performs the best gets the job. Let the chips fall where they fall when it comes to Dei. 29:08
Saagar probably was a DEI himself in that case. Or token. But does that mean he didn't earn it. Kamala was more experienced than JD vance when he was picked.
Kamala went to college and pursued law, became a state attorney, then senator, the vice president. She is qualified. All Vice president picks are a DEI picks to some extent. Bring it up just for her is wrong.
I think the problem Krystal is having is the fact that the DEI thing is being used as a racial dog whistle. Which I think is fair. Its the same as the wellfare queens thing. Oh we care about people abusing the wellfare systems of the country, which may be true for some people, that could be an important issue. But for MOST people in that conversation is was a way to air their grievances with the black community as a whole without getting called out for it.
@@AFightingPanda Interesting. I never once thought that when people talked about welfare abuse. Perhaps that is the problem. Words and phrases mean different things to different groups, and the intent is ignored in favor of a chosen interpretation. But how do we talk about, criticize or improve systems in place, if any discussion is to be interpreted in the worst way possible?

Krystal needs to read more about what DEI is; it covers more than just race. Moreover, the media doesn't only use "DEI" to describe black hires. Very recently, they were calling the short WHITE Secret Service woman a "DEI hire."
The Biden administration has said many times they're the most diverse administration in history. They were specifically picking people based 6 their race.
Diversity has been redefined as being inferior. Educated blacks cannot achieve anything without someone accusing them as being a DEI hire. Explain how a Amy Coney Barrett is not a DEI hire.

How are DEI and ESG “extremely fringe online things” when there are entire departments in government and corporations devoted to it?
It is the way DEI is being used online. It is much different then what DEI means in a corporate setting. Context matters.

@@overkill1025 Nothing about "treating people based on factors that do not include race" is old school. Old school thinking is literally racist, given the history of this country. Remember people of color have only been allowed to vote and have none segregated schools for like 50 years. Not even a life time.
Everyone sees race, we have the history of our country and white Europeans to blame for that. It is more about HOW you see my race. Do you see it as a threat? Does my race make you make stereotypical judgements about who I am as a person? These all come into play.

I work for a major corporation with tens of thousands of employees. We literally get trained on DEI and weekly emails affirming DEI. Anyone who is in a corporate office job will know about DEI.
What percentage of the population work in corporate offices?

Saagar says 1/5 of what Krystal says and scores 5x the points...
The point isn't that 'she's a DEI pick'. It is that the selection of this idiot who believes in nothing is the evidence that the party believes ID politics matters more than a resume of achievement and capability.
Are you talking about Trump or Kamala here? Because you basically described every politician.

Krystal is right. Pretty much all VP picks are DEI, if we are going to use the term in that way.
How was Mike pence a DEI pick? He’s a white guy. He wasn’t picked because he was a white guy. He was picked for his ideology
That last sentence is a straight up lie
What your wrote is completely wrong. People should only be hired based on Merit.
It is exactly the one that has the best skills for the job. The end result of diversity, equity or inclusion should not matter. The one with the skills that performs the best gets the job.
Let the chips fall where they fall when it comes to Dei. 29:08
You hit the nail on the head. Equality of outcomes, not equality of opportunity-this is DEI’s goal.
Saagar probably was a DEI himself in that case. Or token. But does that mean he didn't earn it. Kamala was more experienced than JD vance when he was picked.
literally how can this be denied?
because she was qualified.
Not all Trump supporters are racists, but all racists are Trump supporters
Kamala went to college and pursued law, became a state attorney, then senator, the vice president. She is qualified. All Vice president picks are a DEI picks to some extent. Bring it up just for her is wrong.
With lots of cope and gaslighting (as you see all around the comments section) 😂
@@tabronholloway5821 how am I coping or gaslighting?
It's also possible that some do really mean the nasty thing you believe they do. But how do we talk about, criticize or improve systems in place, if any discussion is to be interpreted in the worst way possible?
Is it a racial dog whistle when it refers to "Rachel" Levine?
Just get Christopher Bollyn on the show. Quit dancing around the truth.. Saagar is right but she is also right that it basically means any black person with a job is not valid. Look at her resume she was attourney general and a senator plus now a vp. Whether we think she is good or bad she is qualified . a lot of people r qualified in terms of checking boxes. The mike pence example is valid as well. If he wasnt an evangelical he would not have been vp. we can agree that affirmative action was a failure but we should also be concerned that certain groups do not have equal access to opportunities. Just dont make it about race. Andrew Yang wanted to help everyone
@@arunsalwan8558 The difference between Mike Pence and Kamala Harris, is at least Trump vetted people of all race. Biden explicitly said outloud he wasn't looking at anyone that doesn't have a specific color pigment. Thus, we didnt look at all candidates, we only looked at some, which is easy to say in response... We probably didn't pick the best.
@@hat8918 I'd say that Pence also was a DEI pick, and is why he didn't run this term. The VP pick is almost explicitly DEI, the question is during their time as VP were they able to use their 4 years as VP to step up to the challenge and prove they are more then DEI. Pence was unable to prove that he was anything more than DEI, and I don't think Kamala has proven her skill beyond DEI after 4 years of having the opportunity to.
@@insanegeek I disagree. Mike Pence brought the christian right into the trump coalition. He had voters and money behind him. Harris brought her race and gender. She was wildly unpopular.
@@insanegeek In your opinion, he was a DEI pick, but it was never expressly stated out loud, like it was with Kamala. Also, on Trump's short list was people of multiple races. The issue in my book, is not even considering other people. So how can you honestly say she was the best pick?
@@TheAlwaysPrepared Pence was brought in to diversify Trump's support with the religious right, not because of Pence's political skills. The former head of the secret service was a DEI hire.
That's racist according to Krystal
@@CostumekillerIt’s not racist, but it totally is sexist. If the head of Secret Service was a man and acted in a similar incompetent manner, would you still call that a DEI hire?
According to most scholars, White women benefitted the most from Affirmations Action. So there's that.
I've never seen a whitebwoman chosen to be VP because of her skin color, but what you said would make sense because most poor people in America are white.
I don't think anybody heard you or wants to hear you. they are gaslighted and triggered.
Yes they did by far just like Saagar benefited from the civil rights movement and look at how much he pays black folks back he is a bigot of the worst kind and needs to take a walk in the deep country on one late night !
Affirmative Action you mean?
Well thats sort of expected right? Theres more white women than black people (men and women). The left considers both underrepresented, then as a whole, white women will benefit more?
I think thats wrong too. All should be based on merit
@@capricornwoman6726 I tried to get a job at a pretzel shop when I was 17 in the late nineties and was told straight to my face, “we don’t hire your kind here “. People want to complain about affirmative action, but my experience is a perfect example of why it was created.

Why? Because they’re not white males??
That was Krystal ‘s point!
Saagar doesn't realize that. Kinda sad really that he doesnt see the importance. But that is the point. If it weren't for DEI, we would have never gotten to witness how great Saagar is. Because no one besides white people would have been picked. In the past they were the only ones seen as reputable. But as we can see, if we give others a chance (Saagar) we can bear witness to an exceptional performance
It's really pathetic to shame Harris for not having kids, I mean the whole "hawk tuah" take is lame. Just focus on her word salad and stupidity and let the rest play out naturally.
I have no dog in the fight, I hate em both but GOSH this is true. Kamala is literally the most foldable interviewee of all time. You just have to watch her for 60 seconds to see how brittle she is.
Not having kids is important I want the leader of my country to have skin in the game and gave concerns about the future past themselves there is a certain level of selflessness that is required to be a parent that people that don't have kids could never understand
Who cares what a couple random people think? That's the problem with the media. They'll find a couple Republicans or even just conservative social media people saying something and convince people that this is some sort of official Republican party strategy. This is never applied to Democrats. They can make all the crazy inflammatory statements they want about Republicans or Trump and it's never applied broadly to the entire Democratic party. Does the president usually pick a VP that didn’t make it to the first primary because they were running in 5th place in their own state?
How many primaries did Joe Biden win in 2008? How many FAILED presidential campaigns did Joe Biden have? He was literally exposed for plagiarism and still made it to the White House. Is he a DEI candidate because of his many many public failures?
And that state is not a battle ground.
At least Harris came 5th. Where did DJ vance end up in his presidential run in order for him to have the opportunity of being made VP by Trump?
Or he got the VP spot because Trump thought that he appealed to the so called Hillbillies / white working class people in the swing states?
How come that you guys never have a problem when whites are chosen as VP’s (Pence, Biden, Sarah Palin, JD vance etc)? 😊
Why exactly do they do this??.. what is the strategy, in doing so?
And what makes Trump pick "JP?" 😂 Because he's a grifting sycophant and that's all that matters.
Not just race, gender and sexuality, and QUALIFICATIONS!!!! Also, what is wrong with that? Why is that a bad thing to have a diverse cabinet that representing the actual demographics of the country? Why would that be a problem for you?
If Biden would have picked her for her accomplishments and like ability, would say NOT DEI. But since Biden said he picked her because of the color of her skin, she is a DEI pick
