People really dont. This car was meant to be a GRAND TOURER that asked questions of the 575 Maranello...... these days its sits in the halls of automotive greatness in the same class and Enzo and Carrera GT. Its the definition of a over achiever.
@@CITRUS-- unfortunately the collective hive and be one track minded. I think because it’s in the company of The Enzo and Carrera GT it’s expected to live up to their expectations. As a child , the SLR McLaren is what got me interested in cars. I was infatuated with every facet of this car and now that I'm older I can see why. Masterpiece
@@observantmonkey4055 I know that. But early gameplay isn't looking good to me. I'm not talking about graphics but physics (looks just bad). Also I see they removed original to every car speedometer and tachometer when driving in the street view.
Same I liked using it for the long races in that game. The Chrysler ME412 was really the only car that the AI could use to give a challenge, since it's got much higher top speed. But to drive very fast cross country in a relaxed fashion, the SLR does it very well. Refined muscle car like other V8 Mercs as usual.
That's an often overlooked feature of a 12 Volt socket in the trunk: You can charge the battery over that connection if the CAN bus allows it and your charger accepts it as a battery connection.
the only Mercedes to be co-designed with McLaren and also built in the Woking factory in Britain. I somehow never knew until recently they were assembled in the McLaren factory but it's obvious.
Easy to see the DNA of formula one in it, the packaging and the fact weight distribution trumps minor issues like it's an engine out job to change the plugs.
They were handbuilt at the McLaren factory in the UK at the time, I didn't realize this until reading the Tamiya instructions for a 1/24 model of one I just started building. Tons of F1 tech and design philosophy behind the "comfortable" grand tourer, it's an incredible machine.
I believe this was the fastest automatic car in the world when it launched. I've always loved how sinister the supercharged V8 sounds... if I'm pulling this out of the memory banks correctly, I think Clarkson said during the race to Oslo against a boat that the supercharger needs 125 horsepower just to run it!
Many people don’t know but this car is essentially a full carbon car. It has a carbon monocoque and besides some small parts here and there everything is carbon.
I've heard that you should press the bonnet after extending it rather than pulling from the side, because it can crack if lifter unevenly, not sure how true that is.
every SLR was handbuilt at McLaren factory in UK. Not taking anything away from Mercedes Benz/AMG but the design of this car is pure F1 engineer let loose on a grand tourer.
This car would be nigh unbeatable on a cross country, long distance race. Merc toughness and reliability of engineering coupled with high speed and stability. It's a Cannonball car for sure ;)
It's truly an amazing car, everything about it is very impressive, until you get to sit inside one, then it's pretty plain, I've driven 3 over a few years & never been impressed by the interior, the gearbox isn't exactly good to use ether, as others have also said the brakes don't inspire confidence, I'd really like to try the upgraded version from Mclaren though, I believe they are very much improved, Rj in Oz
Jay Leno says it's misunderstood. I agree. On release it was shunned in favor of the Carrera GT, Enzo, MC12... but really it was never made to be the fastest laptime road legal racer, rather "how much F1 tech can we stuff in grand touring SL super car and make ANYONE take a second glance at it if they ever see one in person"
it was the only gearbox MB used that could proper handle the engines torque. In a parallel universe instead of "SLR gearbox awful" we'd hear "destroyed my SLR transmission again..."
I feel like I rarely apreciate how crazy this car is
I don’t think many of us do honestly.

These are the best videos on RUclips! Please continue to go through your inventory and stored vehicles. Thank you so much.
Your entire User's Guide series is absolutely top notch! Please keep them coming!

Your whole user guides series is extraordinary. Really really top quality content.

I loved that game :)

The best V8 sound ever created👍👍👍. Love SLR
Without doubt, the best looking modern Merc. Even after 20 years it still looks amazing.
Love the SLR, its such a different departure from all other Mercedes...

I've seen a few of these driving around being from Surrey myself. An incredible aura and presence when you see one. The sound is incredible
The most timeless modern Mercedes Benz in my opinion
This masterpiece is timeless machine 🖤 .
Peak of modern automotive’s design. Can’t get anymore modern than this
IMO this is one of the best looking Supercars! MEGA!
What a legend! Thanks for all the nice insights again.
There is an separate 12-volt outlet in the trunk! GT-territory! 😎👍🏻
Very handy for trickle charging.
I remember being underwhelmed when it was first revealed. Later on I saw one in person and it was stunning.
Just amazing machine. Piece of modern art.
Always love the SLR, but my personal favourite is the Roadster version, including the 722 S.
Love the User Guides! I also think the color on thus SLR suits it best. Was never a fan of the classic silver.
Thank you so much for this video. The SLR is one of my favorite car and you explained everything perfectly 🙏🏻

Couldn't hide it XD

The Ferrari Enzo also had standard carbon-ceramic brakes and was released a bit earlier.
One of the most beautiful modern car ever made imho

Already looking forward to the next video.
Excellent! One day I’ll own one… in the meantime I drive my SL R231…
Guide worked perfectly on my Skoda Fabia
Love to see the start button on the gear lever, i think the first in a production car as well
If this car was made today, it would still be relevant and timeless. A top notch beauty and that engine sound.. that is a porn to ears.
If I ever had the chance to own any car in the world it would be one of these
Great to see a new users guide vid!
Imagine Mr. Murray's state of mind, having to deal with all of this weight...
amazin o future proof this car is... i love it. no garbage. to bad amg gt black isnt like this..

But you can also use the 12v input next to the fire extinguisher on the left side to charge
EXCELENT VIDEO

Jeremy Clarkson did just that when it was new. Drove it in a race on top gear across Europe or something
Yep, I saw that episode.

Thanks for this, once again, insightful video!
one of the best SLR, lucky who ever bought this
Love u Mercedes-Benz SLR! 🎯
Am I right in guessing that this particular SLR has been refreshed by MSO recently? I see what appears to be some subtle but tasteful modifications.
Brilliant content. 🎉

How do you close the door from the inside? Great vid btw, love these
You order your butler to close it
There's a latch on the cabin side of the door - it has to be closed manually.
harrison metcalfe took one for a blast through wales a short while ago
Harry? Wasn't that like 2 years ago? Great video though.
I absolutely love these videos I wish there were more
Beautiful
What about the tape deck behind the radio.
Great! Now all I need is an SLR
I wonder if Manny Koshbin has the most valuable SLR collection out there.
Why are we all watching this like we own one?
the best grand-tourer?
I love my CLS55 AMG 600hp daily driver family car. M113k!

I think the influence of Mercedes was more strongly felt than the one of Gordon Murray, this thing weights 1750 kg!
According to the BABVVO laws in EU and most states of the USA all gas cars will be illegal!!!!
