Ukraine at Eurovision is remembered for the fact that it does not send what is expected of it. Everyone thought that we would again send a song with elements of folk, but even we inside Ukraine already wanted something new, and Tvorchi fit perfectly in this case. But Heart of Steel is a still song about Ukrainians now.

It should always be about the song. This was a great performance of a poor song.
So I understand why this stood out but the chorus is really boring in this.
Why did the Ukrainian people choose this when they had options like Jerry Heil and Fiinka?

I'm from Ukraine. I believe that we do not need victory at Eurovision 2023. We need to present an interesting song with meaning and take a worthy place. It will be useful for the guys to tighten up the vocals and finish the song, as the jury advises.
It is not scary that there are no Ukrainian features in the song. After all, most of the Eurovision participating countries do not use any signs inherent in their ethnic culture. Therefore, next year Ukraine will show that it has a variety of music.

And the fact that Europe has a certain idea about "Ukrainian" music is one of the reasons why Ukraine chose TVORCHI. Because our music is very diverse and we want Europe to know that. Also, this song has a very strong Ukrainian context: it is dedicated to the fighters of AZOVSTAL ("STAL" means steel in Ukrainian). The boys sing about "middle finger up in the air" - this is about the Ukrainian response to the Russian warship (this is depicted on the Ukrainian stamp). There are also hints of our neighbor's "stupid" nuclear threat to us and the world. Also, the songs Jerry Hale and Krut were great, but they create an image of Ukrainians as those who are constantly crying and asking for something. TVORCHI shows Ukrainians as those who are not afraid to speak the truth out loud, as well as "don't stand in my way, because my heart is made of steel"

We have decent pop, rock, rap, electro, etc. We have been presenting folk only these last 3 years (both times with go_a). Other countries at Eurovision perform with songs that show no folk context and still win. So give us a chance. This song is made for Eurovision: it`s got quality, meaningful text, and class.

Ukraine wanted this, they always send songs with traditional elements within and were after something different, and u can see across the board it was liked by both the jury (2nd place) and the public (1st place). TVORCHIs song is very dark but engaging as it can be understood from many different viewpoints and Jefferys vocal along with the staging is spot on. The song is one of the first to be released for Eurovision. They have PLENTY of time to revamp, if there's ANY NEED AT ALL. I listened to it quite a lot before so I'm not so surprised, it's a very soulful and dark sound, different compared to what the country had before, which is breaking ground for a country that normally sends folk or traditional music or other types. I cant think of a single Ukrainian entry like this. I think it's very fitting for Ukraine. The staging is really what did this. And with an EVEN BIGGER stage, this is definitely one to watch. Will it win? Probably no, but Ukraine is an auto-qualifier and they've already won technically in 2022 so no need to worry. Also, we need more futuristic-soulful songs like this in Eurovision generally!

For example, Jerry Hail was plain singing about the war in a very victim-like and religious narrative, so I knew from the start I won't be voting for her. Krut' is amazing, but for the Ukrainian audience, who understands the meaning. And here is a modern song with a great show, that will for sure be commercially successful. There are a lot of meanings in the staging, starting with the key words "Heart of steel", which were inspired by the heroic defenders of Mariupol, whose last resistance base was at the steel plant Azovstal (AzovSteel) with very deep bomb shelters. And radioactivity sign is also a symbol of constant ruZZia's nuclear threats, including taking over Chernobyl and Zaporizhska nuclear power plants by ruZZian invaders, shelling at the nuclear plant, and regular threats of using a nuclear weapon by terrorist state ruZZia. The lyrics can be interpreted in different ways and the brilliant staging links them to today's reality of war and genocide against Ukraine.

So vocals matter but I think the song itself is the most important.
We had a national final in 2018 and everyone wanted a song call legends to win but the vocal was very weak on the night and a poor song won instead that had a stronger vocal.

But a great performance combined it with sympathy votes from televoters due to the current event over there I had an expectation that they were going to win and they did. If they win again with this performance, well you know why. Not hating on Ukraine but that's my theory.

Well 😂 as a Ukrainian 😂😂 it couldn't be more far from the truth 🤣🤣 People who care about Eurovision in Ukraine are those who want a quality performance which they can be proud of or those who think anything other than #1 is a failure. You can get such good results we have at ESC only if you really care. And with UK hosting in 2023, Ukraine can win again and be happy with another country hosting in 2024 😁
