Because you tilt it's not. Teacherman has an video where Aron Judge show's a drill to do every day that give you the real feel of staying back.. the drill is with your belly to the pitcher ;) youll feel your body react if you do that drill, sorry cannot share a link on youtube
The flattening of the swing should either happen through your core muscles or through your front arm, as this creates more bat depth, this also allows an easier transfer to the front foot which this decade of baseball swingers do not seem to get
Can you elaborate on the position of hands just before launch. I see some guys with hands up at ear level or higher and others with lower hands about shoulder height. I'm working with my kid on getting his hands back and elbow up, but maybe I'm over stressing on how high his hands should be and as long as he loads the back scap thats all that's important. Thanks for all your FREE advice. I've completely bought in on your HLP and will be using it to help my three boys. Much respect.
If you look at the greatest hitters, there’s a “slot position” where the knob of the bat should be just before swinging. Typically, it usually pointing towards the catcher, but it’s best to this pulling back the entire upper body and not just arms. I had the issue, and I still do it sometimes too, where I would get to this “slot position” just by disconnecting my arms from my upper body. This caused my swing to be long and I would uppercut a lot. In my stance, I like to keep my elbow close to this position so it’s easier for me to get slotted, however it all comes down to personal preference.

Anytime the belly button moves forward, the weight is moving forward. The belly button signifies the body’s center of mass.
