    It's awesome but loud. A friend of mine made his really quiet for no money extra. we found a piece of thin steel pipe, made a 180 degree bend with it, drilled a hole in the outer shaft housing and welded it to the shaft housing and muffler outlet. Then we drilled some holes below the water line so the exhaust goes underwater. Made it very quiet and you can still rotate it 360 degrees for reverse.

    I just bought one of these motors for my Intex Excursion 4. I just unboxed it, put it on a saw horse and fired it up. The motor is 180 degrees from the one you have videoed. It popped on the first pull and started on the second. It's about the same noise level as a weed-eater. I am very impressed with the design and quality. I can't wait until spring to have it in the water.

    I have to agree with Kenny, you need to remove the four bolts and reposition the motor and the prop 180 degrees to what they are as well as the tiller handle. that way you can pull the rope from inside the boat with out turning the motor around. You might check with a boat shop about how far below the hull the propeller should be, to low or to high each causes a lose of propulsion.

    As a suggestion you may want to obtain a pair of 8' wood oars and install a pair of real good oar locks on them. You would be surprised how fast you can move and as a bonus you get some exercise. Oars would be a great back up and they also allow you to move from one spot to another without starting a motor. Also they are great for stealth approach when duck hunting... We fished the NY Reservoirs that don't allow motors and we would actually troll for Lake and Brown Trout by rowing. The long oars can get you going a at a nice trolling speed. We also used downriggers and it was all on a 14' Jon Boat.

    around every time.

  • @bikemike2777
    @bikemike2777 3 года назад +1

    I have the 4 stroke version of that. Sounds like yours is tuned better than mine. Best 2 pieces of advice o have it turn the power head 180° so you can use the tiller handle while starting. Also when your doing the pull the clutch spring out and put them in a vice. Heat springs with a torch and stretch them out a bit so the clutch engages at a lot lower rpm. Makes it easier to troll too

  • @Jeff4559
    @Jeff4559 3 года назад +5

    For the throttle cable part you’ll want to use the nut it gives you on the top side of that throttle cable, to ensure it doesn’t back out with the vibrations, though it is unlikely it would do to the nature of how the throttle cable works, but that is what that but is for if you feel it necessary

It looks like all I need is the transom mount, the prop shaft and the tiller. that way I can go fishing , weedeat the campground, cut fire wood with the pole saw and then convert it to go fishing! This motor is okay, I don't have a lot of hours on mine. The air cleaner housing is pretty fragile, I figger ya get what ya pay for.

    Run your Amazon motor dry before you put it up so the carb won't get plugged up. Maybe install a fuel shutoff if there is room for it and you can access it easily. Lots of outboard are being made 4 cycle, so you won't have to worry about adding 2 cycle oil anymore. You really ought to wash the leg down with fresh water before spraying rust protestant on it. Keep spare plugs, cotter keys, and props aboard along with your extra fuel. When I was young and caring for my grandmother's boat rentals, I put all those things in so I didn't have to go search for a missing boat after dark. Lake Ontario is very big, with lots of rocky shallows far from shore. I always kept a sharp knife onboard when a trolling boat passed me by and their lines got tangled in mine. Trolling boats can screw up a fine day being stupid enough to not stay far enough away from me. I lost lots of tackle that way through no fault of mine. You ALWAYS give an anchored boat a wide berth, just like a boat under sail. Reduce your wake, too. I used to hoist a radar reflector for the lake bulk carriers in case I was not spotted in time, after a few close calls. Constant bearing and unchanging angle on the bow was the only warning I had. Sometimes, I noticed that their wheelhouse was abandoned for some stupid reason. Life was fun back then, it isn't now .

    Well at least they thought of offsetting the kotter key so when the shear pin breaks after you hit a rock, log, manatee or sea turtle then the whole prop is not going to fall off and sink to the bottom. Be sure to tape a couple extra shear pins to the boat somewhere along with a pair of needle nose pliers so in case the shear pin does break you have a spare to use. Nothing sucks more than having to paddle back because your shear pin broke and you did not think to carry a spare.

    The boat turned out good. That engine is just a knock off stihl motor. Just a weed wacker kombi motor. I've built/worked on a lot of these including the Chinese ones. I knew that cord was going to snap lol. These things are hit and miss. Quality is def super low but some last a while some never ever work without lots of repairs. Imo in a boat in the big water I wouldn't trust it. A pond sure. BTW the break in stuff is something I never follow just run it wide to seat the rings it'll have better performance that way. One other thing, you want to run that thing wide open at all times in the water or you'll break those clutch springs. It's meant to be run full throttle.

As long as you bring a few charged batteries you're golden (not to mention a hell of a lot quieter, also no blow by dirt coming out the vent onto the boat, and best of all push button start since electric motors don't have pull cords)
