His finishing arm speed is simply *incredible*...never seen anything like it, which is, of course, why he holds the world record. Wow! I'd love to know the speed of the discus as it leaves his hand.
Interesting is the video with Dutch commentary at ca. 1:30 The commentator mentions what a poor throw it is, but he doesn't mention Schult's technique! You see Schult using the jump throw! I asked him about it in 1999 via a German TV broadcaster, I had read he experimented with the jump throw that year, and I wondered if the 74.08 was achieved with jump or standing throw. He said: With jump throw. He didn't say why he returned to the standing throw but in any event, that technique change was why he was not in shape in the later tournaments despite having thrown the world record.
+Gerlof Holkema That guy has for ages commented for athletics in NL, he should know about those things but then I think this commentator is the one that I heard a comment about, describing his style which makes it such that for summaries new commentary is not needed. Can't quite remember what it was about that style but when I read it, I realised it is correct. Thinking about it perhaps this: It would mean of course no longer stories, i.e. background information that takes more time to tell than just 1 throw as in a summary you'd get part of the story. If that is it, that would explain the lack of depth, but still this blatantly not telling about an essential part of why Schult was not throwing well, is just stupid! I watched mostly ARD/ZDF as they showed more of the throwing and had better commentators.
I made an interesting Interview with Jürgen in 2005. He explains that he switched to the jump throw in 1986. But in he performed bad at EC 1986 with this technique and so he was forced to switch back. archiv.oelv.at//UserFiles//Ausbildung/2005/schult.pdf
Isn’t it crazy to y’all that he turns in the middle of the ring on his pinky toe (outside of his foot)? When Americans teach you to turn on your big toe (inside of your foot)? Crazy how different others countries, specifically Germany, trains for this event. America trains shot like discus not knowing that their two completely different events. Germans train specifically for one event, not two.
Is it me or when it was recorded throw of 68.12 meters the official incorrectly marked his distance, watch when it lands to when the official marks the distance.looks closer to the 69-70m mark?
i think he threw over 70 one more time and that's it,the wind really helped him out here, the coaches messed him up with their advice afterwards is the story

That's what she said.
Also that time cameras frames per second was low.

The Dutch commentator only sees the distance (they have no idea whats behind all that) .

agree, also because throwing events are more popular with our neighbours! ;-)
74.08 was with jump, then he placed only 7th at Euro a month later so the DDR coaches made him switch back to stand

How CAN BE POSSIBLE that Eurosports was the channel if they was funded in 1989 and this is in 1986 ..... WTF

Throwing the discus 243 feet is almost as difficult to contemplate as running the 100 meter in 9.58 seconds. Truly phenomenal!
Until you visit Ramona haha
@@connorbell01 Well, it seems like the maximum advantage would be about 10 feet. Yes, it's nice to choose the throwing direction, based on the wind.
My best player

One of the best all time
Ljubo Pejakovic *the best of all time
*THE* best by quite a bit actually
Can someone tell me why he did not threw after achieving WR of 74.08, more than 70m in any other competition afterwards...?

Yeah but his arm speed is coming from all the torque his rotation and hips generate.
Daniel stahl will come close to breaking this record.
yep, i thought he should do it last year !
Hani 74.08 olan atışı nerede??
Que proeza de este mastodonte!!
