Interesting to see where genetics can take you, and then where a bit of juice can bump you up. Here a young Zijlstra failed a 220 kg deadlift, but have in mind this is top level genetics, he would eventually be a world class strongman, competing (and beating) some of the best in the world in his era. This 210 kg deadlift was done probably 100% natural, then eventually he'd be deadlifting 300+ kg for reps with a bit of juice. Interesting indeed.

What a double Jorinde, so happy for her!! Her technique is so interesting with her 'waiters carry' of the disc then flipping it over as she gets off her left foot, it also shows how controlled you can enter the turn even your left foot turn can be turning slowly but still throw far!

I'm about to watch your latest on Lars but saw this one I'd missed. Seriously the best transfer of force into the discus anybody has ever achieved. I'd train in the gym with Dani (Samuels) Stevens and she loved how Lars threw (so do I LOL)!

An epic competition with Dallas Long! What a difference in physique between him and Kovacs or Crouser! Thanks for this excellent posting. It was around that time that I was beginning to take an interest in athletics and I remember several of the names in the medal table - European champion Vilmos Varju, the great Parry O' Brien, future (1972) champion Wladyslaw Komar and others. I remember reading a description by a coach of Matson's glide and put as 'a sequence of exploding fire-crackers'. I look forward to more historic postings.

I believe he was at the U of Idaho when Pete Tancred was there. Crouser made quite an improvement coming from Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham Oregon to his time in Idaho. I ran many shot and discus comps that he threw in, never saw a guy so hyped-up during competition.

I was there with my father, was a great day. When time to leave walked past Taito he was a mountain of a man, i was a skinny sixteen year old.
