Jamal, I'm guessing by now some life long Rush fan has explained the washing machines. If not, I'll tell you that Alex always insisted on having his tower of amps behind him. Geddy, making fun of Alex, came up with the washing machines but in different tours they put popcorn makers, rotisserie chicken ovens etc always opposite Alex's amps behind Ged. Btw, as a life long fan since the early 70s, 24 concerts attended, it always amazed me that those 3 guys could make such incredible music on stage not just in the studio. Love your appreciation of great music. Thanks.
"R30 Overture" from their R30 tour in 2004. A medley composed of one song taken from each of their first 6 albums: Finding My Way (Rush); Anthem (Fly by Night); Bastille Day (Caress of Steel); A Passage to Bangkok (2112); Cygnus X-1 (A Farewell to Kings); Hemispheres (Hemispheres). The show opened with a video of Jerry Stiller waking from a dream. That's who you hear yelling "YEAH" in the background at the beginning.

There have only been a few bands I've ever saw where they sound better live than on CD. Rush did not disappoint. Love the channel Jamel.

@@dominictringale6860 I was only 9 then No concerts for me. Didn't even really know Rush then. My brother had gotten Exit Stage Left for Christmas, and I heard it once before he left.
Jerry Stiller was freakin’ awesome for these concerts. And Joe Flaherty as The Count introducing The Weapon before him. Good, good times. Don’t grieve because it’s over. Be filled with joy that it happened. Oh yeah...Love the T, man!
Absolutely this all could have ended in 1997. The fact that Neil was able to come back and give us his heart and soul until 2015 was a bonus. RIP Professor
What make Rush an awesome band is that each member is a consummate performer in his own right and each compliments and raises the others! No one member ever drowns out another... you hear them all, each and everyone, in each and every song they play. You can tune your ear in to focus on one or absorb the greater whole and no matter what... there is always something new to hear! One of my greatest "rock-n-roll regrets" is never having had the opportunity to see them live in concert. R.I.P. Neil & Rock on Geddy & Eric!
I was truly blessed to witness the greatness of Rush several times live. Starting back in 76. They have always been a part of my life. Sure enjoyed the ride. RIP Professor. You are truly missed. 😪😪
I guess I can consider myself extra lucky. I was fortunate enough to have seen them 17 times, starting in the mid-70's, just a little before they started selling out 50 and 60,000 seat stadiums. My first Rush experience was a little 2,500 seat arena call Park Center in Charlotte NC. Needless to say, I was SOOOO hooked, but the BEST PART is that my "Rush journey" will only end... when I do. I am not even a little embarrassed to say that I still weep about the passing of Neil. Although he was a "quirky" individual and was a very private person, I still feel as though I sort of"knew" him...as I feel the same way about Geddy(Dirk) and Alex(Lerxst). These 3 were...will ALWAYS BE genuine human beings. Best band ever! RIP Professor.💔🥁🕊️😇 You will be forever missed.🤙✌️😭
@@TommyLMason and you most certainly don't need to feel embarrassed! I wish I were old enough to start my Rush journey when you did, but was only born in '78. I started in '90 with Chronicles CD set, and that was it...I was hooked. Seen them 9 times, in their hometown of Toronto (living about an hour outside of). Being a geeky, nerdy kid, Neil's lyrics spoke to me, their music became me. When Neil passed, I cried. I had never felt this way for a 'celebrity' before. I asked my wife (who was with me for 7 of those concerts) "is this normal that I should feel this way for a man I didn't really know?" She said "sure, you knew him through his music/words, and music affects you on a very emotional, soulful level, just like me". I still find it hard listening to The Garden without tearing up. I'm just happy the legacy that they left us! Rush forever. RIP Professor indeed.
@@EchoesDaBear Man, I feel exactly the same way about The Garden. I listened and watched a bunch of Rush stuff last night, and then came upon the video of "Garden", paused a few seconds, held my finger over the play button, but then just said to myself..."naw, not tonight. It's a little late, (like 3am), and I don't need to start crying just before I'm going to try to get some sleep. It's a GREAT SONG, SOMETHING ABOUT IT TOUCHES ME...DEEP INSIDE, like no other song ever has. I just have always "felt" that somehow I KNEW these 3 guys, even though I'd never met any of them. You know what I mean? Rush, to me, is truly unique in that way. Always were. I've met a few celebs in my life... mostly sports stars, but I think if I were to ever get the chance to meet Geddy or Alex, man...I'd just friggin' melt. Peace, brother!👍🤙✌️
They are the "tightest" band i've ever heard. 3 guys that sound like 5. The drummer is unbelievable, They all 3 are. Glad I got to see them several times in concert, Took my nephew once since he'd never heard them before. Blew his mind and its still his favorite band

@@klaptongroovemaster Fly By Night was the first CD I every purchased and Anthem is my morning alarm on my phone, so that specific song / album combo is refreshed for me daily 🤣
Have been captivated by this trio for some 35yrs, spending high dollar dough to see them live from 20 rows down front to row 6, and nothing outside of being close will compare. So much to be said about them, the larger picture for me is they were unique, an anomaly in the rock world. So appreciative to have been around to experience their presentation of rock, the chemistry between these three bros in such an expanse of albums is a bit special. :)
I was lucky at 15 years old to see Rush in Denver at the old arena, Uriah Heep Opened up for them on the 2112 tour in August 1977. I then went to Blossom Music Center in 2004 and saw this performance. I honestly was overwelmed. Seeing something I saw as a kid, and how it came full circle. I guess I was one of the lucky ones.
Blossom music center is in my backyard in Ohio. I’ve seen many concerts there. Rush must’ve blown the roof off of the pavilion. The first time I saw them was in Cleveland Public Hall 1976.
I have had the guilty pleasure of 'getting off' watching expressions of virgin folks to Rush. or because of OUR great loss of Sir Professor Peart, Most have tasted the RUSH and become instantly addicted. My fav drummers, drummer and now Sir Eddie on guitar. what if ? God is packing His court with those whom He finds favor a band for the rapture or judgement day...without God there would be no music. or anything else. Sir Jamel, your respect towards all music is admired greatly.maybe by just me, but i don't think so. Peace be upon You and Yours. Gods speed to All.
I love that no matter whose music you react ( and it's ALL great), you always manage to come back to Rush. They have been my go to band since I first heard them in 1976 at the age of 15.
Great point, these three are pretty much unsurpassed in talent...that Alex Lifeson is third best is like winning a bronze medal in sprinting against Usain Bolt & Carl Lewis in a photo finish: a third place better than pretty much anyone else's first :)
@@gsam_dad5540 oh you old school...with your Carl Lewis reference...haha... he was good, he was good. More like Usain Bolt,100 meter in 9.58!! Tyson Gay, Yohan Blake tied for 9.69. The competition is so fierce that in 1991 Carl Lewis ran 100 meter in 9.86. That's how close it is. My question is; will a human being ever run it in under 9. Seems humanily impossible.
I believe they are all perspective equals. Top of the line in their instruments, timing as a band unsurpassed. What other guitar player would be able be to fill in? No one......
I don’t think either Neil, or Geddy would ever have accepted that characterisation of Alex and I’m not sure I do either. Alex is a phenomenal guitarist and a man without ego. He was every bit as key to the band as the other two and I think he musicality was right up there with them. Rush was, above all else, a band of equals. That was how they stuck together for as long as they did.
@@skparkes1969 Very true but judgment of ability is subjective. Geddy is an alien, his ability to sing and play multiple instruments simultaneously is inhuman. Neil's drumming has ranked him as the the top drummer for decades. Alex doesn't make any top guitarist lists. Fair or unfair that's kinda how it is and the point of my comment.
Jamel, I'm a huge Rush fan from Toronto, Ontario Canada. Seen Rush 13 times in Toronto..Maple Leafs Gardens, Molson Amphitheater and Air Canada. I attended Rush final concert June 17, 2005. Amazing concert. I was in tears when the show was over. Overwhelming concert. As you know Neil Peart passed away last year, January 7, 2020. Jamel keep the Rush spirit going. Thank you Jamel 😊
So much respect for you Sir, thank you for putting those amazing videos from a band that has change my life. As a Canadian, Montreal when younger, i got the chance to see a lot of Rush live concerts, since Toronto is only 6 hours away...so any tour they would do..i would see Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto concerts...Then at a younger age i got to visit Morin Heights Le Studio where they recorded 7 of their albums....then at the of 50....3 years ago, bought land and built a house 5 minutes away from that same studio...having Neil as a neighbour (Wentworth-Nord, Qc, Canada) until the unthinkable...will always till my end, never forget all the amazing times when going to live shows meant living at that moment, not recording it on your crappy phone for later....just being there and enjoying the moment....anyway Sir...thanks so much for sharing and loving great music...best to you...Jean-Marc
One of my life's greatest regrets was to not having seen them playing live. I wish I could have met Neil in person once, just to thank him for being an inspiration for me, both as a musician and a person. Maybe one day I could still meet Ged and Alex... who knows. This trio is a big part of me being the way I am today, and I'm so thankful for that. Rush is undoubtedly the best band to have ever played in this Earth.
I was so glad when venues added screens so you could actually see the performers. Way back in the 80s from the seats I could afford I only saw ants playing music :)
I can still remember how tiny Pete was when I saw The Who. My seat was 3 rows from the far back left top corner of a huge outdoor football stadium: so Pete was less than a quarter of an inch tall!
I went to LOTS of rock concerts in the '70s. Rush was one of them. Theirs was the best concert I ever went to. No pyrotechnics, no special effects--they didn't need it. Pure music. Looking back now, I wish I had gone to EVERY concert Rush ever did.
My brother and I heard it live at the NEC in Birmingham, England, and said “Is there anything left for them to play?” Then got over three hours of the rest.
Which tour was that at Birmingham? I saw them there on the 'Signals', 'Hold Your Fire' and 'Roll The Bones' tours? I'm from Stoke, so it was just a quick jaunt up the M6!
I saw RUSH 6 times, all beginning in late 1974 & the last time in 1981! I never saw any other band more than twice. The intro is a medley of parts of a song from each of their first 6 albums. Then into "The Spirit of Radio"! Geddy, playing the synth with his feet, while playing the bass, not on this video but in others there are times when you can add singing to the list of things he is doing! AMAZING! Alex also plays synth with his feet while playing guitar! On later albums, Alex sings backup, & has a good voice! And of course you have "The Professor" on the drum kit! Incredible!
How many arms did the man have??!! There's so many parts to that kit I can't even count em! Amazing talent! Love the instrumentals always. Theses guys are all amazing musicians.
This song is a tribute to Toronto radio station CFNY 102.1 The Edge, whose slogan was The Spirit of Radio. They played alternate rock and were basically the first station to play Rush. They gave them their first big break and the boys paid homage with this song.
Rest in Peace Neil Peart 🤘🤘🤘 Thank You Professor 😭😭 I heard Geddy Lee give an interview one time where he said they had a lot of "stupid" things on stage with them i.e. the washing machines, but the one I remember most is they had rotisserie chickens cooking on stage behind them.
I dragged my wife to a few of their shows. She always asked what crazy set props they were going to have this time. The first time she saw them they had wash machines. She said had she known, she would have brought the laundry.
Thank you. Was lucky enough to win a radio contest in 1983 in Toronto. They flew me and a friend to NYC to see Rush at Radio City Music Hall. Got to watch most of the concert standing amongst Alex’s guitars on Stage Left. Got to talk with Geddy & Alex after the show. At that point I knew about 17 Rush songs on piano but was too shy to tell them. They were amazing to meet. They had just completed 5 concerts in 6 days in NYC yet took the time to talk to me and other fans. Good people.
@@kimdeese6410 I've seen both drummers play Live. Too different style of drummers both played with heart and soul but theirs a reason one is called " THE PROFESSOR " !
From what I understand, they always had various props (washing machines, dryers, etc.) on stage. Eventually, Geddy Lee was "jealous" of the huge stack of amplifiers behind Alex, and wanted to balance the stage with his own stack of said props. I've also seen popcorn poppers and rotisserie chicken ovens.
You're partially right, Steven. Geddy didn't play through any amps, just through his pedals and directly into the board. So all the stuff was indeed there to balance out his side of the stage.
I have to say, I love how the crowd goes insane when Geddy sings "Concert Hall!", then everyone shuts up in time for the next verse, just like on the recorded version of "Spirit of Radio".
Rush has been my favorite band since 1983 when I borrowed my older cousins albums and made cassette copies; I was lucky to see them live, at least once each toor, from 1987 until the unfortunate end.
Brother, I can go without cable. I can go without my cell phone. I can go without liquor, but I CANNOT go without that sweet sweet Rush T-shirt! I NEED IT!
So happy u like Rush, one of my all-time, first saw them in ‘82 when my Cardinals were winning the World Series that year. Last saw them on Vapor Trails Tour!! Seen em at least 9X!! So good live too! RIP Neil
I was lucky enough to see them in Cincinnati during their Clockwork Angels tour and I'm sure I cried, it was absolutely incredible. The couple of concerts I've been to have been legends (Metallica, Paul McCartney, Springsteen) and it doesn't feel real to me until like an hour into it. When it hits me that they're really there I FLIP MY SHIT.
I grew up listening to great music and going to concerts. My first was at the tender age of 6, when my mom couldn't find a baby sitter, so she took me to see Jimmy Buffett (I've been a parrothead ever since). Over the years there have been some great concerts I have been lucky enough to attend, in huge amphitheaters, small dive bars, and everywhere in between: Chicago, Buffett, Incubus, Nickel Creek, Robert Johnson and the Family Band, North Mississippi Allstars, Puddle of Mudd, Stone Temple Pilots, Cowboy Mouth, 3 Doors Down, are just some of the standouts. The list goes on. But the best, hands down was Rush's R40 tour in 2015. These three lifelong friends got up onstage, and put on one of the most melodic yet precise shows I have ever witnessed, for 3+ hours straight with NO breaks. Great musicians, great playing, great music. Best concert ever. I wish you had discovered them soon enough to have attended one of their shows live.
This medley is called the R30 Overture, played during their 30th Anniversary tour. It consists of the songs Finding My Way, Anthem, Bastille Day, A Passage To Bangkok, Cygnux X-1 Prologue, and Cygnus X-1 Prelude. I suggest listening to all these songs individually, but especially Cygnus X-1, both parts
Rush is one of those bands I remember from my earliest days as a kid. One of my all time favorites that got me through my youth and still getting me through my adult life! Neil Peart is truly missed and the band as all three together are greatly missed. Simply perfection in music!
Jamel, I had the absolute pleasure of seeing these guys in concert twice. They are the VERY BEST prog rock band of ALL TIME!! Such talent and musicianship -- own all of their albums. . . 💕💕💕
Really enjoyed this. By the time 2013 rolled around, just after Rush was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Neil was fighting an acute case of tendonitis in his wrists and arms. Small wonder considering the way he attacked the drums. At that time he thought of retiring, which I think he did a bit later. This was only a few years before he got cancer. It was kept secret for 3 and a half years before it became public when it was announced that he had passed away. This is why people were so shocked and saddened by his death. His supreme skills at the drums aside, he was an intelligent and humble man. Many aspiring drummers from around the globe came to him for advice, which he kindly gave. Did you know that he watched other drummers in action and asked them to come visit him. One of his biggest fans was the drummer of Metallica, Lars Ulrich, who met him personally, I think more than once. It was the drumming community that began calling him "The Professor." Their admiration for him was palpable. You can see why his passing affected not only his peers but the musical community in general. Neil was a poet and an intellectual, a man of many talents, which of course included writing the lyrics for his band. It has been said that a light that burns brightly, burns quickly. Neil was one of those. His light burned so bright that it's brilliance astounded his many admirers. Now he is gone, and we still can't believe that we will never see him again. Rest in Peace Neil. We loved you as much as the person you were, as we did for your unbelievable, unearthly drumming.
Was lucky enough to see Rush 9 times dating back to 2002. Always a great show. (best one ever was in Reno, May 2008 for the Snakes & Arrows Tour. They were ferocious that night!)

Nice intro, yes sir! For the all-time classic intro, IMO, check out Intro/Sweet Jane from Lou Reed's 1973 awesome Rock n Roll Animal live album. Those dueling guitars, man, you'll be stank facing the whole time.
I was fortunate enough to be able to see Rush 12 times from the Roll The Bones tour to the last one. Every one of them was the best concert I have ever seen. As I was watching this with you just now they broke into Spirit of the Radio, and I broke out into tears. All I can think of is that I will never see these 3 lifelong friends perform together again. It truly breaks my heart. They gave us so much over the 40+ years of them making music. Always holding to their highest standards. Always with everything they had. They knew what it was like for us as fans of their art, and they would never let us down. What you do here on YT is wonderful my brother. Thank you. Thank you so very much. Peace to you and your family.
The best show of my life. I took my son for his 16th birthday to see them. His first concert. And my first time seeing them live. Unfortunately only time. But still one of my best memories.

Jerry Stiller was freakin’ awesome for these concerts. And Joe Flaherty as The Count introducing The Weapon before him. Good, good times. Don’t grieve because it’s over. Be filled with joy that it happened.
Oh yeah...Love the T, man!
You just made me cry a little... but you're not wrong.
Absolutely this all could have ended in 1997. The fact that Neil was able to come back and give us his heart and soul until 2015 was a bonus. RIP Professor
That is so the way I think Stan, cheers man.
Rush, the count Floyd and the Cardinals, it doesn't get any better than that, except half the rush catalog in a intro...thanks for the up load Jamal.
R.I.P. Neil
&
Rock on Geddy & Eric!
Who remembers seeing the mini segments with Paul Rudd, Jason Segel and Jerry Stiller?
@ one of the best scenes in the short lived TV show “Freaks and Geeks” was when Jason’s character was showing off his drum kit...
@ I agree. They had 1980 down perfectly.
I saw it from the front row.
Your smile and enjoyment always brightens my day. Keep rockin young man
I was truly blessed to witness the greatness of Rush several times live. Starting back in 76. They have always been a part of my life. Sure enjoyed the ride. RIP Professor. You are truly missed. 😪😪
Sounds familiar....
Love your little "JUST BE A GOOD HUMAN" sign! Rush rules, pure and simple.
They are the "tightest" band i've ever heard. 3 guys that sound like 5. The drummer is unbelievable, They all 3 are. Glad I got to see them several times in concert, Took my nephew once since he'd never heard them before. Blew his mind and its still his favorite band
Me too saw them a few times and I absolutely am still obsessed. Their mastery is profound and untouchable. RIP to THE PROFESSOR!
One of my favorite music reaction channels. You do a terrific job. Keep up the good work.
Your smile is almost as big as mine whenever RUSH comes on...
Awesome to see someone enjoy Rush as much as myself (and many others)...agree, superb smile captures the pure joy!
The songs in that amazing intro:
1:00 Finding my Way - Rush
2:00 Anthem - Fly By Night
4:00 Bastille Day - Caress of Steel
4:47 A Passage to Bangkok - 2112
6:00 Cygnux X1 - Farewell to Kings
7:28 Armageddon: The Battle of Heart and Mind - Hemispheres
8:10 Spirit of Radio - Permanent Waves
Anthem was on their 2nd album, Fly By Night 👍
@@unstoppablefarce3204 Thank you for the correction. It's been a long time.
@@klaptongroovemaster Fly By Night was the first CD I every purchased and Anthem is my morning alarm on my phone, so that specific song / album combo is refreshed for me daily 🤣
You should watch the documentary "Beyond the lighted stage".
If you haven't already seen it.
Such an incredible doc.
Agreed!
They should go back and add the last 10 years to the doc. The Hof, the last tour and, of course, Neil's passing.
"WTF do you guys do?" - Gene Simmons
I guess I was one of the lucky ones.
d dorsten Damn, that must’ve been for the Hemishperes tour?
Wow! I love Uriah Heep, but have never seen them live
Love your work Jamal, your a great guy and your doing really important work if you didn't know. fantastic. Sorry for taking so long to comment.
Imagine being one of the greatest guitarists on earth and being the third best in a three man group.
I saw these guys live 17 times, I wish I could have seen them 17 more.
Yep, 6 for me. It's never enough.
16 for me ! haha
19 here, first show 1982 last show 2011
30 for me
So much respect for you Sir, thank you for putting those amazing videos from a band that has change my life.
Pure, Canadian Rockers !! RIP Neil, one of the best rock drummers ever !!
@@devodavis6747 We Saw Paul McCartney in 2014 at an indoor arena and our backs were literally touching the cement wall at the very top
I always left my seat for the pit🤷
I went to LOTS of rock concerts in the '70s. Rush was one of them. Theirs was the best concert I ever went to. No pyrotechnics, no special effects--they didn't need it. Pure music. Looking back now, I wish I had gone to EVERY concert Rush ever did.
My brother and I heard it live at the NEC in Birmingham, England, and said “Is there anything left for them to play?” Then got over three hours of the rest.
Caught this one at The Gorge in George, Washington. A great venue for the all time greatest band.
Which tour was that at Birmingham? I saw them there on the 'Signals', 'Hold Your Fire' and 'Roll The Bones' tours? I'm from Stoke, so it was just a quick jaunt up the M6!
R30. We missed the last train back to Manchester and had to find a hotel.
@@darrenjones5885 Thanks for the information mate!
I was at the NEC R30 show & also travelled there from Durham for the Hold Your Fire & Roll the Bones shows. Epic
Haha, half Octipuss man,
All three of them were related to an octopus on their mother's side of their families!
@@ewhartiii Lol..I could believe it!
Tears in my eyes, greatest band ever !There music never gets old 47 concerts and I thank the stars in the universe for them everyday,
Alex and Getty always look like there having a great time when they're playing. Amazing that there are no ego's in this band, everything split 3 ways.
This song is a tribute to Toronto radio station CFNY 102.1 The Edge, whose slogan was The Spirit of Radio. They played alternate rock and were basically the first station to play Rush. They gave them their first big break and the boys paid homage with this song.
Rest in Peace Neil Peart 🤘🤘🤘
Thank You Professor 😭😭
I heard Geddy Lee give an interview one time where he said they had a lot of "stupid" things on stage with them i.e. the washing machines, but the one I remember most is they had rotisserie chickens cooking on stage behind them.
I dragged my wife to a few of their shows. She always asked what crazy set props they were going to have this time. The first time she saw them they had wash machines. She said had she known, she would have brought the laundry.
the cook who came up and checked on the chickens every once in a while was amusing
Everything RUSH did was the best or as good as it gets. One of my favorite RUSH songs. Saw RUSH many times in concert. Always awesome performances.
The piece from the "A passage to Bangkok" always gives me chills
Neil has the best drum set ever assembled!!!
That's fitting... seeing as how Neil's drum set has the best drummer ever assembled.

Rush is great vibes, superb musicianship, and they are intent characters and everyman all at once. Truly one of the all-time great rock bands.
Best ever!!! Just got my TEACH PEACE" Hoodia in blue! It is perfect! So soft!!!
Thanks Tim🙏🏾
Rush fans are a part of the performance half the time. Pretty sure we're the only fans who sing instrumentals.
Rush has been my favorite band since 1983 when I borrowed my older cousins albums and made cassette copies; I was lucky to see them live, at least once each toor, from 1987 until the unfortunate end.
I love the joy you bring to music regardless the artist!
We Lost the best drummer that ever lived I'm 58 and grew up listing to Rush and playing my guitar along side their 2112 album. Ill miss ya Professor.

So happy u like Rush, one of my all-time, first saw them in ‘82 when my Cardinals were winning the World Series that year. Last saw them on Vapor Trails Tour!! Seen em at least 9X!! So good live too! RIP Neil
I wish I could have taken this man to a Rush show. Good times would have been had
Simply superb ☝️

Jamel, I had the absolute pleasure of seeing these guys in concert twice. They are the VERY BEST prog rock band of ALL TIME!! Such talent and musicianship -- own all of their albums. . . 💕💕💕
@ted ritola Yes, I like them too.

Rush was the soundtrack of my youth. I'm 55 now and still amazed by people still discovering them.
