So much truth with just a few words . Neil has inspired a generation of new drummers and as much as he is one of the worlds greatest his life was filled with tragedy . Lost his first daughter to a car accident years ago and two years later his wife dies of cancer , remarries and has a new daughter in California , now Neil is gone . Rush was the bookmark of my life ..

  • @asraharrison

As a former drummer, what really separates Neil Peart from the crowd is how clean he was. The stuff non-drummers don't appreciate is the fact that parts of his solo are single stroke rolls, matched grip... then he switches effortlessly to traditional grip, double stroke rolls... his drumming is perfect, never sloppy. Simple elegant, yet often times almost impossible to duplicate!
He was also a brilliant lyricist and songwriter.... He is the GOAT! There will never be another drummer like him.
Thanks for giving him your attention.

extremely clean.. the sound is not dragged by an uneven hitting force in the mix of continuous hits with the sticks.
his hemispheres are completely separate for timings. I think in the beginning he had 6 different rhythm timings going when he was reaching back almost 180 degrees to hit some drums. later the snare rolls in either style were so fast and clean

I myself have played drums for 30 years. This is the master of Drumming. When he drums crossing his arms back and forth starting at 1030 and not hitting the rims plus the qauds on the base is the hardest thing to do. I have the ability to drum using various techniques I've learned throughout my life but I have to say that I am not capable of doing it. I have tried about 25 times and I always hit the rims. As a local Toronto musician/drummer Neil Peart was inspirational to me. He showed me what kind of talent can come out of our own backyard so to say. Thank you Neil for the decades of amazing music and showing what people are capable of achieving with enough drive and detemination. R.I.P Neil Peart

The Professor on the Drumkit! I grew up near to where Neil did and RUSH was one of my favorite bands from 1975 onward, Neil's lyrics and his unmatched drumming were the main reason.
2020 started out with the loss of Neil and has just gone to hell since :(

Jamal, I’ve only seen a few of your vlogs. You seem to appreciate good musicians and good musicianship. Rush has been my favorite band since 1981. Neil Peart was a huge Buddy Rich fan in later life. He loved jazz. He still studied with a teacher in order to continue to improve his craft. He was not satisfied. He continually wanted to get better. What a great line.....He was your favorite drummer’s favorite drummer. There are performers and there are musicians. Neil Peart was a musician. Rush may not have been a favorite of yours. That’s ok. Thank you for being open minded and receptive to the music and for expressing your thoughts. I look forward to seeing more of your vlogs in the future. Peace.

I got away from listening to Neil and Rush for quite a while. Thanks for bringing me back. Neil's percussion compositions became so rich with his study of music outside Rock. It's astounding that one person could embrace that much diversity of music in one lifetime. Rest Neil, you made the world a better place.

Jamal, I just started again watching you videos. The fist video I picked was RUSH Spirit of Radio, followed by YYZ. While reading some comments I saw "R.I.P NEIL"!. At that moment my heart sank! I immediately search for Neil Peart and that's when I seen that he passed away in January. I thank you so very much for making this video in tribute for this wonderful and talented man!. He has gone through so much in his life. God rest his soul. God Bless you Jamal!.

It’s easy to forget how a great musician, maybe especially a drummer, is also a great athlete. Making real music is a physical art. Besides the brute force and endurance required, rhythm has to be unconsciously perfect, memory flawless, reactions lightning fast, and hand-eye coordination like a baseball hitter’s. Like you said, he’s not young. So he’s dedicated. Great drummer. Drummers are like goalkeepers: they’re born that way. You either want to play drums or goalkeeper and nothing else, or you want nothing to do with it. R.I.P., Mr. Peart

As a drummer, Neil Peart was a household name back in the 70's on through. I know he inspired a lot of drummers today, including myself to think outside the norm with creativity. When you mentioned who was the best drummer Neil always came up. Sure there's a lot more technical drummers today, but as far as creative MUSICAL drumming, I didn't know anyone who came close. Saw them twice and both times were amazing. Thank you Neil Peart for the influence you had on my drumming.

I've studied under his tutelage for decades as a drummer and his passing has affected me more than I could have fathomed. Limelight has helped me cope more than the professor could have ever known. Thank you Neil, we the faithful shall grieve for years to come. Jamel your amount of respect for the professor is exemplar. Bless you too.

You sir, brought tears to my eyes in this reaction. It has been a week since I heard of Neil's passing and my wife and I got through the night watching the Time Stands Still video which tore me apart. This reaction has hit me! I have seen every tour since A Farewell to Kings show in North Bay Ontario when I was 15 and have watched his drum solo evolve throughout every tour. This band influenced my life beyond belief. I can tell that you are real and really appreciate them and that your reaction channel for at least Rush is not just a money making RUclips thing but you really do get it. RIP "The Professor".

What a lot of people don't get about Neil is that he wasn't just one of the greatest "rock drummers".
Oh, he was; but he was also a great jazz drummer, blues drummer, metal drummer, and so on.
This vid really captures that - you mentioned "Hawaiian" also.
There are drummers that could out-beat-per-second him, no doubt, but his stamina, versatility, and general love of the beat is unmatched.
Note that this solo was in the middle of a 2-hour concert of Rush music - talk about STRENGTH!
