In Toronto we call Rush The Three Kings Of Willowdale. ... Cool.. I've been a fan since about 1976 when I was in kindergarten ..and I got to see them over 20 times, and I got to meet geddy and Alex backstage All Access and I met geddy again, when he signed his book for me.. in Detroit, we call them the kings of Canada

can`t get The Garden out of my head these past few days. Clockwork Angels was the perfect goodbye album for the band. Neil wil never be forgotten R.I.P
My eyes tear up just thinking of the lyrics to that song. I knew it was their swan song, their final message to their audience, the very first time I heard it (which would have been the day the Clockwork Angels album went on sale). Just about the whole album. When I heard "I wish that I could live it all again" on Headlong Flight, followed by Wish Them Well, I started thinking "this is a 'goodbye' album". And then The Garden.... I hoped for more but I figured that was the end. I saw them in San Antonio for the Clockwork Angels tour and then had to work the last time they played in Austin. I don't think there will be another band like them in my lifetime.
They were also funny. Before each show, each tour, they would sometimes make a weird funny video to show the audience. On their 40th anniversary tour (the Time Machine tour where they started with their newest songs and went backwards in time to the end of the show), they had a funny video of them (as funny characters) in an isolated bar watching a young polka band playing called RASH (same logo, but A insead of a U). I had to get a RASH shirt after that. People at other concerts I go to still love the RASH shirt.
You're so right about them making fun of themselves, and the crowd loved it.🤩 I was at the 40th anniversary concert at The Forum in L.A. I just couldn't get over how THREE people could FILL the arena with that WONDERFUL music. I walked away saying, "That guy is THE BEST drummer on the planet." There could not have been anyone better!!! Neil Peart's music will live on with us. SO GLAD I got to see them in person. Mind blown!!❤❤❤

"Moonrise and thoughtful eyes starting back away me from the window beside. No fright or hindsight, leaving behind that empty feeling inside." Staring out the window of a Greyhound bus, I recognized exactly what Geddy was singing about. "My ship isn't coming, and I just can't pretend." So many years ago, so many ships have sailed for me, so many chapters. And Rush has been with me over all these years. Still as meaningful in 2020 as it was in 1980 when I discovered their music. Thank you for this!

As an older white guy. Im loving how so many younger black men and woman are getting into this sort of stuff. I love Rush , NWA and Johnny Cash all the same. If its good. Its good!
Mike Comstock I been watching so many of these reaction videos featuring Rush and I am shocked and delighted at number of young black people grooving on them. I got into Rush in early 80s. It was impossible to find too many people who were into them much less fellow black folks LOL! Only other black person I know that liked Rush was former Montreal Expo first baseman, Warren Cromartie who became good friends with Geddy Lee and was paid homage on back cover of Signals album. Back then Rush were HATED by music press and had little or know exposure. I’m happy to see almost 40 years later my fellow Canadians finally getting props they deserve.
One thing that I loved about seeing them live, was the generations present. Had floor seats to R40, the guy next to me was my age (50s), he had his 25 year old son and 7 year old grandson with him. You see folks that grew up with them and young people that only know they newest work.
Growing up, I was the only one in my large Puerto Rican family who listened to rock and metal. Now I take my niece to shows! Thanks for helping people broaden their taste!
The AMAZING thing about Rush, to me, is that it's just THREE people creating this GREAT music!!!❤❤❤ This is Progressive Rock at its finest: unique, ahead of their time, memorable lyrics. Neil's music will live on, and, as he put his soul into each song, so will he. RIP Neil Peart.❤
This was the first Rush album I ever heard way back in around 1982. To me it's one of their most timeless efforts and when you consider it's just three 21 year old Canadian kids making this music it's just mind boggling. Every track is incredible, and the musicianship is beyond belief.
Only one voice like that, And you knew the lyrics would be futuristic, So ahead of their time,The standard to which others would try to obtain, Neil alone was a FENOM, LOVE RUSH FOREVER !!
Damn it's sad when someone you have great admiration for is gone and you see footage of them when they're younger and you know they're no longer with us, it hurts.I'm 54 and Rush was huge among me and my friends growing up. Cheers from the canadian Queen nut and overall music seeker, music lover, music discoverer, and person who finds joy in the soundscapes talented people can create.
Geddy is the man. While he is doing the vocals, he plays the bass and the keyboards. All 3 are masters of their crafts and the absence of egos makes them awesome to watch.
Once you watch this video or hear the song you are automatically hooked on them. I have been a literal Rush addict for 30 plus years. I still love them even more that ever. I mis Neil touring with the Band and now he’s gone. Thank you so much for making this video.
When I got the news of Neil's passing I was trying to think of a lyric he wrote that applied to how I felt. After a while, a line from "Nobody's Hero" (another song worth reacting to!) came to mind: "When I heard that he was gone I felt a shadow cross my heart..." Rush wasn't a band that a lot of people got, but they were my heads house band! Neil will be greatly missed but his legacy lives on in those of us that were inspired by his words and playing. RIP Professor!
oldsoldier4u Mine was the Garden, “the measure of a life is a measure of love and respect”. Last song on their last album. How else to sum up the Professor? He has my love and respect for all the joy, thought and insight he, Lerxt and Dirk gave to me over that last 30 plus years since I first was blown away by 2112. Now I go to tend my garden as well.
I hear their passionate music Read the words That touch my heart I gaze at their feverish pictures The secrets that set them apart Those were the lyrics I thought of immediately, though many Rush fans like to forget that album exists :/
@@surfeit5910 I didn't forget about that one either! Another one that came to mind was from "Losing It" - "Sadder still to watch it die than never to have known it ...."
Suddenly, you were gone From all the lives you left your mark upon Afterimage deals with sudden loss of life On Grace Under Pressure ,that lyric rang in my ears after he passed.Sadly guy`s Rush have an agreement that if one passes the other`s will stop,Bonham effect Led Zeppelin ...
Such a good talking point about nobody duplicating their style. Neil will live on in the hearts of his fans and every classic rock station. Check out their live concerts in South America...the fans were just going berzerk at those shows.
Looking back all these years I know now more than ever what a complete privilege it was to see this trio perform live. Not just the band but the fans in the crowd also made the experiences transcendent at times. Thanks for the providing a great soundtrack to the various moments of my life. RIP Neil.
This was Neil’s first “hit” song; he wasn’t in the band when “Working Man” and the first album was made; although he made them his own live. They played like 125 shows June-Dec 1974 while they wrote this song and the rest of the Fly By Night album. They recorded the album in 5 days, then it was back on the road for a Jan. 15th show in Winnipeg and another 250 shows in 1975. Incredible.
I always wondered how i would feel when and if one of the members of rush passed...for me,it is brutal. ..a true master at his art...and a huge loss to music and fans alike
Impossible to not shed tears watching any of these reactions to Rush niw. Thank you for caring about the fans because we have know for decades this greatness.
Love watching you see the bands that we loved so long ago. Another era is ready to follow. Rush was the psyche of millions of kids from 1975 to 2015. My favorite band. You do it right. Thanks for your respect!
We'd smoke a wee bit too much on occasions (imagine that) and sing " Ride My Bike " throwing in any lyrics could think of on the fly.... those were simpler times for simpler minds but we'd laugh our asses off. Rush was not a popular band back in the late 70s and 80s and finding others who listened to them was reason enough to be friends because they understood what so many others failed to grasp, they are a once in a lifetime band. I was really looking forward to seeing them after they got bored in a few years... maybe Neil's kid would fill in .... until then boy's...
Wow Scottie you described exactly what it was like to be a Rush fan in late 70s early 80s , when you found someone else who were into them it was an instant kinship.
I recall in 81 or 82,goin to the Spectrum in Philly to see them. My bud and I sporting faded Levi jackets with freshly painted Rush album covers on the back... Fly by Night on mine and 2112 on his... we were 15 or so,never told our parents. We left Long Island on our journey and had a fantastic time jumping train to train and partying. There were hundreds of us by the time we got there and Philly rocked hard for 3 hours that night... We left with 30.00 and made it home okay....
Just waiting to hear Rush on the radio was torture. Thinking, what's wrong with these people. Do they not know how great they are. I was 18, on a job site in 83 when I first heard a Rush song on the radio in N.Y. it was this song, no longer would they be the best unknown band around.
Not to dis Geddy, but he's hardly underrated. He's at or near the top of every rock bass list I've ever looked at. Easily one of the most influential bass players of rock music ever. I've never, ever heard anyone say otherwise. And he gets all that praise just for his bass playing. Add on top of that the singing, the keyboards, the pedals (all at the same time) and then he's at another level altogether. Probably one of the most talented rock musicians ever. Honestly, the only one in Rush I think is underrated or overlooked is Alex. But there's not a serious guitar player that I know who doesn't praise Alex. He just doesn't have the same level of recognition with the masses that Neil or Geddy have.
Imagine being 24 years old, and already being the best at your respected instrument, unbelievable!!!! Great band, saw them 3 times, and I was so sad to hear about Neil’s death, their music has been part of my life for 35 plus years, but if there is any consolation, it is that we have a huge catalog of music to continue to enjoy and appreciate. Thankyou Professor, Geddy, and Alex for the many years of great music, RIP Neil pert 🥁🙏 And great reaction as always Jamal 🤘
Incredible drummer but also wrote most of the song lyrics...before he passed he drove solo across Canada....saw them twice in concert and am blessed. Keep rocking Jamal!

Neil"s drums, Alex's guitar riffs, and Getty Lee's distinctive voice were an unbeatable combination. Just three guys, but they could put out the sound! I went to see them live when this album came out, and came out of that concert with my ears ringing for the next 36 hours. That was the benchmark with which I measured every other concert after that.
Wow! Neil what a drummer! Geddy’s voice so distinctive and beautiful! Guitar great too! I didn’t listen to them in high school, but now at 60 I get it about RUSH! As a 70s child I’m still learning Jamal!!!
Look at those crazy canadian kids!! What amazes me about Rush (among many other things) is how different each decade of music was, yet every decade was amazing. They never had an average album. Ever. I miss Neil and Rush.
My second favorite Rush album behind Moving Pictures. So many great songs: This, Anthem, Beneath Between and Behind, By-Tor and the Snowdog (A precursor to 2112), Best I Can.
They were just kids when they started, but even then they were so talented... Going to miss Neil. I hope Alex and Geddy can put together some kind of tribute show to honor him.
I love how Neil's kits over the years sounded the same, no matter how many pieces he had. That shows why he'll always be known as the Professor. Neil's kit here is a twelve piece. For the Rio concert, the kit had 50+. He could have used 3 metal pails and a trash can lid and still sounded great. One-of-a-kind, times 3, that was RUSH.
Music: Geddy Lee Lyrics: Neil Peart (original lyrics) airport scurry - flurry faces parade of passers-by people going many places with a smile or just a sigh waiting, waiting, pass the time another cigarette get in line - gate thirty-nine the time is not here yet….. Why try, I know why The feeling inside me says it’s time I was gone Clear head, new life ahead I want to be king now not just one more pawn Fly by night away from here Change my life again Fly by night goodbye my dear My ship isn’t coming and I just can’t pretend Moon rise, thoughtful eyes Staring back at me from the window beside No fright, or hindsight Leaving behind that empty feeling inside Start a new chapter I find what I’m after Is changing every day The change of a season Is enough of a reason To want to get away Quiet and pensive My thoughts apprehensive The hours drift away Leaving my homeland Playing a lonehand My life begins today
Thank you Jamel For you or video reactions and your kind words towards Neil. This is truly a devastating loss for mankind in general and of course those of us who play. I have played for 42 years and he is the main reason why I ever wanted to learn or pick up a pair of sticks. A true inspiration a true mentor without him even ever knowing it. Thanks again for your videos and your kind words I am glad I found your channel I enjoy watching your videos very much.
If looking for early Rush side 4 (LP) All the Worlds a Stage listen to 9:15 of Working Man to discover Why Neil is the Professor. And for your listening pleasure at the very end of What You Doing turn up the volume until the needle lifts. You will love their sense of humour in 1976 live at Massey Hall, Toronto Canada.
Thanks for your comments Jamel. I think you have come to appreciate this most awesome trio!! True talent. Nice guys. #RIPProfessor I have thought of him every single day and just about bawl. RUSH.
Thanks for doing another Rush reaction, Fly By Night is one of their absolute classics. The band split up in 2015 so his passing won't affect them in that sense. It's just a big loss to all of us who were moved and inspired by his playing and writing and, of course, everyone who knew him.
The memory of hearing this song for the first time is strong to this day. 1975, late summer, just shy of 17 and about to begin my Sr year of HS. I was listening to FM radio out of Cleveland one day, and heard the announcement of the airing of the new Rush album (Fly By Night) later that night, but first, a spin of the title track at the top of the hour (in 15 minutes). All I had been doing that day is playing my bass guitar, putting off chores. My mom had enough of my procrastination, and sent me outside to clean her car. So that I didn't miss hearing the new Rush song, I drove her car onto the front lawn, then placed my bedroom speakers on the open window sill so I could hear the radio while working.
Muchas gracias Jamel por vibrar con este trío de maestros épicos y eternos. Sin duda la perdida de Neil hará que muchos que no conocían Rush, a través de tus reacciones puedan escucharlos y disfrutar como nosotros lo hacemos por tantos años
Rush retired a couple years ago, due to Neal and Alex getting arthritis and they didn't think they would be able to continue delivering such perfection in their live shows.
That was the public story, but I really think that was just the band trying to keep Neil's privacy intact. He was diagnosed right around then, and prior to the diagnosis was likely already experiencing weakness and other symptoms. Sad end to such a bringer of joy.
These guys were a band of brothers, superb musicians, writing complex stuff yet so accessible. I love their music and cannot thank you enough for reacting to their songs. They announced a few years ago that they would not play anymore or record new material. My guess it had to do something with Neal‘s health.
Neil Peart's First album with Rush.2nd overall.Lot smaller drum set then he had later. He definitly Made a big difference in the direction of the band Thank God!
Jamal....I have enjoyed many of your reactions to different bands...RUSH being my favorite. If you can listen and react to the final song that Neil wrote...THE GARDEN. The words and melody are deep and with a lot of meaning and emotion...as were almost all of Neil's lyrics(deep meaning) and many songs(emotions) by RUSH. Thank you for all you do...
Thanks Jamel for sharing such a great band as RUSH. Luckily They've made numerous great quality Bluray dvds of their concerts so you can get the feel of a live concert.
Rush was the crazy nerd rock I listened to as a nerdy teenager. My first concert was Rush's Moving Pictures tour in 82 (I think). They were amazing and completely unique.
Rush is brilliant...you know this was Neil's early style of drumming. Look at Rush videos around 1994/1995, Neil holds his sticks totally different. Neil decided at age 42 to re-learn his already magnificent drumming style. Master of his craft!
Caress of Steel kicked ass.... I recall asking my mom what a necromancer was.... when she replied it was someone who worshipped the dead, I thought whoa.... but these guys rocked so well together I just knew they were special.
I would call this era the "Talent Show Era", where even though they already had one album and (I think) some touring behind them, they were still dressed like students at a high school show. Not long after this they enter into what I'd call the "Kimono Era" where they start dressing like real rock stars! Geddy did sort of 'retire' his old voice at one point during their touring. I remember reading an interview where he said he just couldn't hit certain notes anymore. That's why in later concerts they usually did a medley of older songs without the lyrics. This song means a bit to me, as I listened to it on a plane while flying from East Coast to West Coast to start a new life. It was also the first time I had flown first class, so that made it memorable too, I suppose.
After he lost his wife and daughter in the same year I never thought Neil Peart would tour. I was wrong and happy to be so. He was a complex introverted man; genius.
3 masters of there profession without a single ego between them!!!

Neil Peart was actually the writer of all of Rush' lyrics which makes him even more incredible as an artist and a person.

Can't get enough RUSH bro
This band were a notch above right from the get go.
You nailed it 'no other band like this'
God bless Neil Peart
Geddy is the man. While he is doing the vocals, he plays the bass and the keyboards. All 3 are masters of their crafts and the absence of egos makes them awesome to watch.
It's simply unreal how Geddy can sing that well while playing such complex and awesome basslines. Immense talent in this band.
Once you watch this video or hear the song you are automatically hooked on them. I have been a literal Rush addict for 30 plus years. I still love them even more that ever. I mis Neil touring with the Band and now he’s gone.
Thank you so much for making this video.
It is impossible to listen to this song and not have a big smile on your face. A perfect, classic rock song.
Love me some RUSH !!!Seventy and eighties rock can still holds its own. Yes, RIP Mr. Neil you’ll be missed songwriter and drummer extraordinaire !!! 🥁
I hear their passionate music
Read the words
That touch my heart
I gaze at their feverish pictures
The secrets that set them apart
Those were the lyrics I thought of immediately, though many Rush fans like to forget that album exists :/
@@surfeit5910 I didn't forget about that one either! Another one that came to mind was from "Losing It" - "Sadder still to watch it die than never to have known it ...."
@@oldsoldier4u814 Neil saw exactly that scenario coming, which is why he retired in 2015.
Suddenly, you were gone
From all the lives you left your mark upon
Afterimage deals with sudden loss of life On Grace Under Pressure ,that lyric rang in my ears after he passed.Sadly guy`s Rush have an agreement that if one passes the other`s will stop,Bonham effect Led Zeppelin ...
I have seen RUSH 13 TIMES, THEY HAVE NEVER DISAPPOINTED. BEST SOUND REPLICATION YOU WILL EVER SEE.🥁☮
Such a good talking point about nobody duplicating their style. Neil will live on in the hearts of his fans and every classic rock station. Check out their live concerts in South America...the fans were just going berzerk at those shows.
Thank you, sir, for this reaction. What a gem. Just a taste of what's to come.
Every time I hear this one it takes me back to the 70's in Southern California, when So-Cal was a great place to live !
Incredible.
Thanks for that info. Nobody knows how hard these guys "work" . It's not all "Money for Nothing"
I always wondered how i would feel when and if one of the members of rush passed...for me,it is brutal. ..a true master at his art...and a huge loss to music and fans alike
Thank you Jamal, you are the best!
They were the kids in "Subdivisions". "Fly By Night " is about leaving home to tour for the first time.
It fills my heart to see the reaction community paying tribute to this irreplaceable legend. Peace be with you, Professor.
Impossible to not shed tears watching any of these reactions to Rush niw. Thank you for caring about the fans because we have know for decades this greatness.
You said it best. "They compliment each other". Truth. Great work sir. RIP Neil.
SENSATIONAL BAND! RUSH... AND NEIL PEART: THE PHENOMENAL DRUMMER! REST IN PARADISE MAN! - (FROM BRAZIL) M.S.C.
OMG, What memories this brings back! ( Power Trio ) Always TIGHT, and Perfect, EVERY TIME!
RIP Professor
Gedddy shredding the bass as usual. He is very underrated. I can hear his bass line through this entire song!!
My first and last time seeing them was on their last two tours (Time Machine and Clockwork Angels) both shows were three hours long.
Their last tour was R40. Time Machine and Clockwork Angels were the two previous tours.
Wizard Suth I stand corrected, thanks bruh.
Thankyou Professor, Geddy, and Alex for the many years of great music, RIP Neil pert 🥁🙏
And great reaction as always Jamal 🤘
Incredible drummer but also wrote most of the song lyrics...before he passed he drove solo across Canada....saw them twice in concert and am blessed. Keep rocking Jamal!
So happy that you discovered Rush Jamel. The joy in your face is infectious. Thank you so much. More Rush please!!!
RusH is composed of 3 compulsive perfectionist, and genuine good people that do not have any the ego trips that have lead to the demise of many successful bands.
Truly GREAT musicians that are also truly great friends.... Resulting in some of the cleanest, tightest most amazing music ever made.
Rush is and always will be on my top 10 list. RIP Neil Peart
My second favorite Rush album behind Moving Pictures. So many great songs: This, Anthem, Beneath Between and Behind, By-Tor and the Snowdog (A precursor to 2112), Best I Can.
I've never seen this video. I was smiling the whole time. Little baby Rush. Neil's drum kit was even little baby. Lol
They were just kids when they started, but even then they were so talented... Going to miss Neil. I hope Alex and Geddy can put together some kind of tribute show to honor him.
Got lots of memories of this time period in my life. All props to those three guys. Awesome musicians!
Brings back so many memories. I saw them live in the early 80’s. Second best concert I ever went to, after Queen. But they were a very close 2nd.
Music: Geddy Lee
Lyrics: Neil Peart
(original lyrics)
airport scurry - flurry faces
parade of passers-by
people going many places
with a smile or just a sigh
waiting, waiting, pass the time
another cigarette
get in line - gate thirty-nine
the time is not here yet…..
Why try, I know why
The feeling inside me says it’s time I was gone
Clear head, new life ahead
I want to be king now not just one more pawn
Fly by night away from here
Change my life again
Fly by night goodbye my dear
My ship isn’t coming and I just can’t pretend
Moon rise, thoughtful eyes
Staring back at me from the window beside
No fright, or hindsight
Leaving behind that empty feeling inside
Start a new chapter
I find what I’m after
Is changing every day
The change of a season
Is enough of a reason
To want to get away
Quiet and pensive
My thoughts apprehensive
The hours drift away
Leaving my homeland
Playing a lonehand
My life begins today
So that I didn't miss hearing the new Rush song, I drove her car onto the front lawn, then placed my bedroom speakers on the open window sill so I could hear the radio while working.
siskokidd WMMS 101 fm. CLE.
@@thomassabol4565 WMMS, naturally. And I was nearly 90 miles away, but still managed to tune in. Nights were always better with less static.
RIP GOAT. He is your favorite drummer's favorite drummer.
Haven't heard this in a long time. Thanks for posting. These men are masters of their instruments, and voice. Epic. Always.
Muchas gracias Jamel por vibrar con este trío de maestros épicos y eternos. Sin duda la perdida de Neil hará que muchos que no conocían Rush, a través de tus reacciones puedan escucharlos y disfrutar como nosotros lo hacemos por tantos años
Geddy's voice is like a laser beam cutting right through those beautiful instruments.
@@brianwalendy3735 Could be...
These guys were a band of brothers, superb musicians, writing complex stuff yet so accessible. I love their music and cannot thank you enough for reacting to their songs.
They announced a few years ago that they would not play anymore or record new material. My guess it had to do something with Neal‘s health.
Really appreciate your honoring of Neil Peart and being open to a band and sound you may not have grown up knowing. You are a genuine man Jamal
Neil Peart's First album with Rush.2nd overall.Lot smaller drum set then he had later. He definitly Made a big difference in the direction of the band Thank God!
Really appreciate your respect for Neil. Good words, my friend. It is a huge loss for the music world and rush fans, especially.
Rush's first truly "mainstream" hit, Fly by Night. What a great ride it was. RIP NP.
RIP Neil, been listening to Rush since the beginning. Such a loss.
I was just entering middle school when this was released. Music was great in the 70's. Listened to Rush through high school and still do. RIP Neil.
Rush was the crazy nerd rock I listened to as a nerdy teenager. My first concert was Rush's Moving Pictures tour in 82 (I think). They were amazing and completely unique.
You honestly seem like a genuine down to earth dude who knows real music when you hear it and I can tell you feel it in your soul
Really dig your love and respect, brother..........RUSH is amazing!
It's amazing to me how Alex and Geddy took Neil's lyrics and made them sing.
Rush is brilliant...you know this was Neil's early style of drumming. Look at Rush videos around 1994/1995, Neil holds his sticks totally different. Neil decided at age 42 to re-learn his already magnificent drumming style. Master of his craft!
I think You would really like "The Necromancer". Great song and the story the lyrics tell is really cool.
Bri pski Agreed. I think he’d really like it too.
Caress of Steel kicked ass.... I recall asking my mom what a necromancer was.... when she replied it was someone who worshipped the dead, I thought whoa.... but these guys rocked so well together I just knew they were special.
the necromance an awesome epic song. caress of steel a very underrated album
It brings tears to my eyes when I see younger generations enjoyed their songs they are the goats of rock music"!
We need music now more than ever. I sure enjoy your reactions and hope you are well.
He was a complex introverted man; genius.
being a Rush fan for so many years, I still expect Geddy to look back and smile at those drum fills lol
Thanks so very much for this..... appreciated!👍👍
