That's how you open a show!!! Throw out there 8 or 9 of your biggest hits and montage them together. And still have 3 hours worth of material to play.
Rush was a rare breed they were the best band you never heard any scandals about them they generally loved each other as brothers
Alex did get arrested at his hotel years ago.
@@jackteppo9633 yeah - punched a cop on NYE! LOL - he was pretty drunk.
Alex got his nose broke by the cops in Naples Florida when he stepped in while they were manhandling his son, he spent the night in jail and was given 12 months probation as well as having to pay court costs.
@@Fred-vy1hmThank you for telling the rest of the story. I've been a Rush fan for almost 50 years and if that's the only "blemish" on their reputation, I would say that they're cut above the rest.
I always think of Rush not as a rock band, but rather three super talented friends who would like to jam forever in the garage.
There will never be another band like them.... their talent and skill is just jaw dropping.
The greatest band that ever was. I saw them 17x over 40 years. R.I.P. Neil Peart and long live the mighty Rush 👊🏻
Best three man band ever
There will always be subjective opinions about who is best. But as far as pure (virtuosic) chops....can't touch 'em. I agree.
Best band ever.
This a melody of their songs through the years. Alex had a huge amp stacks on his side, so Gedfy put in the vending machines, washing machine and chicken rotisseries on his side
Geddy doesn't use Bass amps anymore, Tech 21 Sans Amp, which he now has a few signature versions, the YYZ, the DI-2112 and rack unit GED-2112, and the YYZ Shape Shifter
You have to keep the Roadies washed and fed. Treat people right!
Medley not melody
If you liked the dryers and vending machine, wait until you see the rotisserie chickens.
Geddy says in an interview that when he stopped using amps behind him on the stage he needed something back there to fill out the stage. Being that they all 3 love comedy and are always joking around they left it to the stage crew to come up with something and this is part of what they do. They even involve the crew in coming out during the show to change laundry, with the chicken roasters they come out and take out chicken and place others in etc.
Ladies
That drummer was the iconic late Neil Peart aka Professor because he has written majority of all Rush's songs. Older man opening on screen introducing members of Rush was legendary comedian/ actor, Jerry Stiller, father of Ben Stiller. Jerry was known for his roles on Seinfeld & King of Queens.
In January of 2020, Neil died from brain cancer after years battling it. Other two of Rush, Geddy Lee & Alex Lifeson are still living today
I’m so happy they got Jerry Stiller to do a couple videos for them to use in concerts!!!
Yay! Rush! this show was R30, their 30th year anniversary tour. They were in their 50s at this point and it was so cool to see the photos of them when they were younger. So much to explore with this band ladies! Check out "Vital Signs Live in Cleveland" "Working Man Live in Cleveland" and "Secret Touch (Snakes & Arrows Live)". Also, for a really amazing instrumental performance and drum solo, "Malignant Narcissism / De Slagwerker (Snakes & Arrows Live)"
It's an instrumental medley of some of their 70s songs followed with Spirit of the radio.
It was the show opener, it was like they were saying, we have so much stuff for you guys tonight, here are the songs we won't be playing :)
Probably the best progressive rock band that there ever was. R.I.P. Neil peart. You will be missed but NEVER forgotten🙏
The year was 1981, I was 17. I was at a party, and I brought the sound system. Now, I had heard the name RUSH, but never heard one of their songs. I was a Fleetwood Mac fan (still am), someone asked if they could play RUSH,(which I thought was a metal band because the druggies listened to RUSH). Not wanting to be a D!ck, I said "Ok, go ahead". He put on Permanent Waves, side 1. The first song is "Spirit Of Radio", that opening Alex Lifeson guitar riff hit and that was it, I was hooked. Now I'm 60, and they will always be my favorite band. I have an Eclectic taste, so Fleetwood Mac is still up there with me, the 80's new wave band Berlin, 70's latin rock Santana is another, and also, the Jazz/Rock Fusion of Blood, Sweat, and Tears.
This intro takes you through a instrumental medley, starting with a song from each of their 1st six albums, to lead into the iconic "Spirit Of Radio" from their 7th studio album. I glad younger generations are getting to know such a great band. Neil is deeply missed. RIP Professor!!!
Longtime Rush fan, but I also like Fleetwood Mac. I’d say I’m a rock fan in general. That’s my core taste but there’s lots of stuff outside this that I also like. If it’s a good song (subjective) it’s a good song. Genre doesn’t matter.
@@kevinmcfarlane2752 John McVie, one of the best underrated bassists ever.
I saw them twice in the 70's, they were just as awesome! Lulu would have loved all the hair.
Saw them numerous times in the 80's/90's. They were into so much synth and experimentation then.
Seen Rush for every tour from 1975 2112 through 1992 counter parts, what a awesome time tickets were still affordable .
What make this the best is it is a medley of songs from their first 6 albums in order, chronologically, ending in The Spirit of Radio from their seventh. Cool way to start the show and give fans a taste of songs they wouldn’t have time to play. Cheers!
Great reaction ladies :-) ! I was at this concert, 2nd row in the middle before the stage and it was an awesome concert. What really knocks me off my socks was "Xanadu" also played at this concert. Best regards Thomas
There was/ is no better live band than RUSH
And never will be!
Best band ever. 3 of the most talented guys, to ever walk the planet.
This was their R30 tour (I think) marking their 30th year as a band. Three 50 year old guys (tremendous musicians as you said) rocking their butts off.
The instrumental bits in the first part were iconic riffs, one from each of their early albums. Then they segued (seamlessly as always) into “The Spirit of Radio” one of their best known songs.
In addition to various types of drums, Neil's kit includes bells, chimes, cow bells and wood blocks ( yes, wood blocks are instruments)
He started out on piano, which kind of makes sense in retrospect.
When they were warming up to record Xanadu, Geddy tells the story that Neil was outside banging on trees and anything else he could get his sticks on.
And a gong cymbal.
That was a medley of songs from previous albums that led into the song "The Spirit Of Radio"
Awesome, Great Reaction.
Rush has had so many great songs over the years that they couldn't possibly play them all, so this opening melody is a mash-up of several fan favorites... A great way to start a show!!!
Seeing as they're from Toronto, I got to see them live as far back as the late 70's... They used to play on New Years at Maple Leaf Gardens!!!
I was just over the Detroit River from Toronto, so I got to see them as a bar band. Quite niche back then.
@@sirgalahad3574 Very Cool!!! Some people here in the GTA even had them perform at their High Schools!!!
I first saw RUSH back in January 1979 at the Spectrum in Philly. Blondie, yes Blondie Opened for them. The ticket price was $6.50 and, I still have the ticket.
Wow
first time for me, the Ag building at the fairgrounds in Garden City KS. 1977 A Farewell To Kings tour. Max Webster opened, then UFO before Rush. they did 2112 all the way through back then.
weird, having Blondie open though.
I suggest the RUSH song "Test For Echo" Performed Live in Toronto Canada on June 30th 1997 -- the lyrics are very timely to events going on in the news right now.
Natural science and the complete 2112 in this same show are peerless!...and utterly mind blowing. They were in "The Zone' the whole show.
I was lucky enough to see this live back then here in Germany. Only thing I can say is: EPIC
Perfect word for them.
The pictures they show of the band are from the time they released each of the first 6 songs, a meddley of part of 1 song from each of their first 6 albums, played in the order they were released!
So glad I got to see them in concert. RIP Mr. Peart
Only seen RUSH 20 times best of times !!!
Are you from Toronto?
@@lesblatnyak5947 No I wish but Texas
@2112666123 used to run into Geddy and Alex on their walks. Nice guys with a great sense of humour
Lucky guy
The intro consisted of bits from 40 years worth of songs. The drummer, Neil Peart was actually suffering from a type of brain cancer. He didn't want anyone to know, and Geddy and Alex were sworn to secrecy until after he passed away. Neil was and still is the greatest percussionist/drummer that has ever existed!!&! May he rest in eternal peace ❤
(NOTE: During the course of the concert, you would see people adding and removing clothes from the dryers. Rush always had an interesting sense of humor. )
Cool to see this.
All of them were early 50's here and played like guys half their age.
I was fortunate to see them 13 times all in their (and my) hometown Toronto at 3 venues.
Rock on ladies.
The washing machines were there because Geddy Lee went to a wireless headset stage monitor. No need for giant amps on the stage so being the tricksters that they are they put washing machines up there to take up the space. On other tours they had rotisserie chickens in the ovens. Great musicians, exemplary people with a dry sense of humor. All mixed together and we have one of the greatest bands ever to grace our ears. Great channel. Great reaction. Check out the song Virtuality from Test for Echo. Excellent riff from the master Alex.
Geddy is playing synthesizer parts with his feet while playing bass during the intro meddley! They throw T-shirts out of the dryers into the croud as the concert progresses!
I loved this. This is a medley of some of their best songs. That's what makes this "the best intro ever." If you check out more Rush songs, you will recognize them from this video! Rock on, ladies!
45 years of RUSH YALL HAVE ABOUT 25 more songs to go through !!
Songs or Albums?
More like 166 but who's counting. 😊
You mean albums not songs 😊
@@joenewman6939 No I mean songs it’s Rush they’ve done a lot of albums takes years to get it or get hooked
@@joenewman6939 And Tom Sawyer is not the only great song they have
they always have great intro's to their song's, the best i think is 2112 the temples of syrinx, neil pert on drums and geddy lee wailing like no tomorrow rush constucts their songs like no one else
That's just the beginning of the show!
Rest in Peace, Neil Peart. 🥁
rush on lady,s,,🤘🤘🤘
Saw them 14 times!!!
I agree totally with y'all, first show was 1977 seen every tour since. They are the band others aspire to be as good as. PS another Canadian band you need to check out is Crown Lands a two man band and since someone there loves hair. Lol need to check em out just for that alone.......!!!!!!! Enjoy yourselves immensely.
Neil is freakin’ DANGEROUS on that mind blowing kit. Geddy and Alex INCREDIBLE. WHAT A BAND. CANADIAN ROCKERS!!
Incredible that they could play all those old chips flawlessly. 3 outstanding professional musicians.
I grew up with this great band in the late 1970s. Best band of the 20th century. Now, i’ve been listening to another great three-piece band, called The Warning, who are giving me the same vibes I had growing up with Rush
The intro is a medley of song from their early albums (first 6). Starts off with "finding my way", then into "anthem", then "bastille day", then "a passage to bangkok", then "cygnus x1", and finally "cygnus X1 book 2", before starting the first FULL song, the Spririt of Radio (from their 7th studio album, and not even half way through their catalog). But it's full force from when Alex first hits the stage with that black PRS guitar blazing.
That was aboustly awesome. They remind me of another talented group of 3 ladies Kathy lulu and Donna I would pay for you three to play music just like I would pay to see rush . Winter sun Alex ❄️👋❤️
Glad to see you ladies enjoying more RUSH!
I DO MISS THE 70S LOL YOU ALL ROCK!!!
I was waiting for their show in Nashville (2013) to start, someone asked if I knew who was opening for Rush. I laughed!!! They played almost 3 hours with a break in the middle, no opening act!
Geddy had to create some extra time to finish his laundry!🤘🎸RIP Neil🤘🎸If you can hit it with a stick it is part of Neil’s kit!🤘🎸
Another great reaction...I would suggest the songs below to add to your Rush journey and reactions. All of these are absolutely fire!!! Especially the LIVE instrumentals with Geddy’s Bass, Alex’s Guitar, and Neil’s percussive artistry.
- La Villa Strangiato - Live in Cleveland from 2011 Time Machine Tour (Instrumental - custom "carnival" intro) - original was 1978. Pure musicianship!!! UNMATCHED - best instrumental EVER.
- Working Man... Live in Cleveland from 2011 Time Machine Tour (original studio version was in 1974)...The pure sight and performance of three men in their upper 50's take control of the stage and perform and play like they were in their 20's.
- YYZ…live from Rio in 2002 (instrumental)…original was 1981
- Xanadu...Live version 1981 Exit Stage Left tour...will leave you speechless from pure musicianship...original was 1977.
Yes listen to this person...react to these songs
Thank you very much, good night!
I saw a documentary where they were talking to Neil Peart's drum tech. He said that there was 27 different microphones on Peart's kit, each one wired differently to do a specific job, and how he had to set them all up and make sure they were tuned right. Before that, I never knew how much complexity went into The Professor's drum set.
I think before they started the had video of Jerry stiller getting excited about the show and at one part he wonders if they’ll play passage to Bangkok. So when they do that song they show him going nuts up on the screen!
Loved that intro. Almost as much as Passage to Bangkok.
That Cowbell!!! Glad to see some Southern women enjoying some RUSH.
HAIL STATE! Home of the Cowbell, Mississippi State...
This into alone would have been worth the ticket price. To hear them just play through essentially every album and hit a bit of the greatest songs... absolutely epic. And notice the absolute ease they play with. They arent having to try or work atvthis at all. They are completely at ease and relaxed. Older than most bands and playing at this level. All 3 best friends. No ego between them. No scandals. Just music and their fans.
I have seen Rush twice live back in the mid 80’s. They were awesome
This melody of their earliest albums gave the audience a taste of their oldest favorites without Geddy having to hit the higher registers he used to sing in, which saved his voice for the rest of the show which is pretty long.
The first part was a medley of earlier songs.
Finding my way
Anthem
Bastille Day
Passage to Bangkok
Cygnus X1 Book 1
Cygnus X1 Book 2
into Spirit of Radio.
All would be great songs to check out.
You have a cute puppy 🐶
Cheers 🇨🇦
Great reaction. I like this medley. One song off each of the first 7 albums. Mostly the first track off each with a couple of exceptions.
Greatest 3 piece band ever. Saw them first time in 1977 last time 2011
The intro comprises snippets of one song from each of their first 6 albums leading into a full song from their 7th album. The songs are Finding My Way, Anthem, Bastille Day, Passage to Bangkok, Cygnus X1, Hemispheres and finally the full rendition of Spirit of Radio.
You will hear one of the best intro ever when you react to the 1973 live version of Hocus Pocus by Focus! 🙂
Nice video ladies!
Just so you know. Geddy (Bass/Keys/Vocals) had one side of the stage and Alex (Guitar) had the other. Alex's side was filled up with great big fancy amplifiers, but Geddy didn't need a big stack of amps because of technological advances. He discovered that his side of the stage was rather empty. So he filled his side of the stage with a refrigerator, washing machine& dryer, vending machines, even a chicken rotisserie to balance out the two sides of the stage. True story.
As far as a good song to react to. I would suggest you go off the beaten path and check out Driven or Ghost of a Chance. Both are overlooked gems.
Go Check out The RUSH DRUM SOLO !!
The "intro" was actually a medley of their material from each of their earlier albums combined into this intro.
There's only one drummer ever that is called the professor neil peart RIP always missed and remembered
The smile on your faces says it all
They really come out with all chambers loaded. Most bands couldn't come out of the gate this hard because they'd have nowhere to go from there.
I have been blessed to have seem them early, mid and late career as they rocked my world from West Coast I5 Corridor to Minneapolis on the Moving Pictures tour and eventually out here where I live now on the East Coast. I remember seeing them do this intro the first time back in Portland Oregon right after 2112 on All the World's a Stage. I still have my Moving Pictures T from the 2 night sold out show in Minneapolis and the Washer Dryer/Vending machine was introduced as a joke by the roadies because they never quit touring and needed clothes washed all the time so back on the Vapor Trails tour, they just moved the machines on stage and did laundry during the show. CLASSIC 🙂
Hey Ladies, Great Reaction video, Seeing These 3 -Men live Was a Experance!! Close you eyes its The Album!! From Nova Scotia,Canada.
My wife and I saw them at the White River Amphitheater. We had to tell a couple of younger fans which songs were in the intro. You could hear the crowd singing the songs anyway, so Geddy didn't have to 💯🤘
Love you for experiencing this amazing 3 people. Rip professor
Right on, Ladies! Love me some Rush! They have SO much material to cover it cant be covered in a single show. I think it was '81 when they gave up hosting a warm-up band before taking the stage; started doing montages of some old songs (this one was 7, and then they broke into The Spirit Of Radio); and stared calling their shows "an evening with Rush," which was THREE HOURS of total bliss! Yes, Nail was a percussionist of an other-worldly order...considered my most to be the greatest of all time, may he RIP 😢 The washers and vending machines were an inside joke between Geddy (Bass and keyboards) and Alex (Guitar) because the arena uses a HUGE speaker system and Geddy said 'I can get the same volume as you if i had a damned washing machine on stage!' This, because Alex's amps are empty....only there for SHOW.
For more - check out Neil's drum solo in Frankfurt, Germany; and Xanadu live, 1981 to see Neil's full kit and how he could make playing the *Triangle* the coolest instrument EVER. (For Xanadu, I highly recommend reading the un-finished poem by Samuel Coleridge called Kublai Kahn. Neil finished the work by augmenting it into a warning to 'be careful what you wish for,.....' Oh, I remember reading in the liner notes (yes, I'm old enough to have had Rush on vinyl - lol) that on one song, Neil played on a piece of "plywood!"
This is a bunch of songs out all together
Great reaction ladies! Neil is a full-blown percussionist! Anything that can be hit, he uses it!
I was in absolute awe at this concert - the R30 Overture (as this opening song is called) is a beautiful medley of songs from the earliest part of their career - basically the 70's stuff, up to Permanent Waves, where they come in with The Spirit of Radio! It provided such a brilliant retrospective without playing the entire songs (and let's face it, many of those songs Geddy would've had a hard time singing!). Between this and the general setlist is probably why the R30 tour was my favourite of all the shows I saw from Rush (and I saw them 9 times). Cheers!
I have viewed this many times before seeing your reaction. Always thought a better name might have been Best Intro Montage Ever! Yup, in the basement, jammin' with friends kind of setting. Very astute observation, Lulu! Previous years there was three dryers. At the end of the concert Alex & Geddy would get tee shirts out of them to throw out to the crowd! I have one of Alex's guitar picks with a ticket stub from a show in the, a, nineties, was it? It's away in one of many photo albums in the attic. Yup, ancient paper photos from last Century! Lol! I like this video and will look for more of your reaction vids. I love it! 3 Generations = MINDS BLOWN! Great stuff! Next, do 'Passage to Bangkok", the original version with the cartoon strip. I bet you can't guess what the subject matter is from just the title of the song... but you might know after hearing it & watching the graphic cartoon version? Maybe try asking your fans in the comments which Rush song they want next? Great stuff! Keep up the great work! I loved it!
The drummer have a xylophone and other purcussion items, When i was drumming i used to learn everything i could from this man, he was my favourite drummer from the 80´s till today. Did i ever bcome as good drummer? Lol no not even close. I have a dvd concert from Brazil with this band and they have these wahsing machines onstage there aswell and during the intermission, some guys dressed out as them in the 70´s comes and empties the washing machines. As always u girls are so fun to watch, Happy birthday .
Thanks
What it is is a collage of intros from a bunch of their songs!
Just a quick note on the laundry equipment, vending machines, etc. on Geddy's side of the stage. Geddy uses something called a "SansAmp" to run his bass directly into the mixer board. That means he doesn't have a big amplifier setup behind him. But Alex does have his wall of amps so Geddy's side would look weirdly empty by comparison. So Geddy started playing around with things to balance ⚖️ things out.
There were t-shirts in my the dryers and Alex and Geddy would toss them to the audience at the end each half of the show and at the encore. The shirts were red/white and said: "I got this shirt from dryer #1 (or 2, etc.)..."
Very collectable item for the serious Rush fan.
There will be no doubt that Neil is the greatest percussionist in the history of rock and roll if you watch where's my thing here it is!
This must be Xanadu ?
Just a guess, I haven't watched it yet.
Well I was wrong, when the song started, I knew right away it wasn't Xanadu.
The Temples of Syrinx and then goes into " Spirit of Radio "
These guys are so Talented, they all could have taught their own instruments in College.
At the risk of being 'that guy'...they eventually get to The Temples of Syrinx later in the show when they play 2112. Before Spirit of Radio is the Prelude from the Hemispheres album I think (need to re-listen).
@@cotedebeaune2012 Yeah, it through me off by saying the longest Intro to a song.
I didn't realize it was going to be multiple songs. lol
This intro is a piece of 6 songs before transitioning into The Spirit of Radio. The songs are Finding My Way, Anthem, Bastille Day, A Passage to Bangkok, Cygnus X1 Part I and Cygnus X1 Part II:Hemispheres.
The concert sound quality was really good in your video - glad I could crank it up to enjoy
Best band ever!
I will say it again, You ladies are great, Lulu noticed Geddys hair as well as the washing machine. You all know what great music is, even from other greats so thankyou and stay sweet.
😊 thank you
I have seen them 2 or 3 times....glad I did!
Only got into hardrock/metal end of the 80's....on my own and learned of more bands due to new friends. Rush was one of those bands...bought Chronicles the double compilation and Roll the bones was my first regular album. Bought all albums throughout the years after and as a comic book collector I was especially happy finding 2112 with the comic included. 👍
Another banger. Yall nailin it ladies! Ty ☘️ 🇺🇲
I saw Rush during this tour with my ex-wife. She inquired about the washing machines. Since she could be an airhead at times, i told her that they were Maytag Ampliers. She didn't fall for it. Of course, they were just props that Geddy thought of as a joke. Technology had changed and he didnt need massive amps and speakers so he used other things to fill the stage behind him.
maytag amps i fell over laughing!!
Ah yeah, the "R30 Overture" from the R30 tour incorporating parts of "Finding my Way", "Anthem", "Bastille Day", "A Passage to Bangkok", and "Cygnus X-1 Books 1&2".
It’s a medley of intros from their songs until Limelight, then they play the whole song
It was riffs from a song from each of their first six albums followed by The Spirit Of Radio from their seventh album Permanent Waves. 😊 PS they have a greatest outro ever video as well, it's the two encores, La Villa Strangiato and Working Man from The Time Machine tour in Cleveland. 😊
Working Man!
This was an instrumental medley of older songs that they used as an intro here. Hopefully you will react to the full length versions of some of these songs at some point.
I was there at Manchester UK watching this. I puked 2 hours before the gig as i was so excited lol
The first time I saw them was the Moving Pictures tour. I've seen them 4 times in concert and have never been disappointed!!&! The first album and introduction to Rush for me was HEMISPHERES. So glad y'all enjoyed them, because SUPPOSEDLY... women don't like Rush! I don't know what the reasoning is supposed to be, but I've seen plenty of ladies at the Rush concerts, enough to make me believe that women are just fine with the band.😊
I think it’s fair to say that more and more women got into them as time progressed. Rush were viewed as prog and prog was viewed as male, more so than hard rock and metal. But prog itself evolved as well and you find more women in prog as musicians now too. E.g., Mostly Autumn in the UK.
This was Rush celebrating their 30th anniversary on the 'R30' tour... They had actor/ comedian Jerry Stiller do the video intro before the band came onstage and would play a medley of some of their most famous riffs from songs like - 'Finding my way' ... 'Anthem' ... 'Bastille Day'... etc. And then, they would go into their first song of the evening...
Welcome to the Rush rabbit-hole!
Another great Rush reaction video! You girls make great videos...keep them coming. Love your Pink Floyd and being a Canadian I also love your Rush videos too! One of the best bands to come out of Canada
Thank you so much!!
Fantastic montage of their early stuff
