- Jessica (the future Mrs. Claus) sings "My World Is Beginning Today." You can definitely detect some '70s psychedelic influences there. And WHOA... that puppet is stacked! Sadly, this video is usually deleted from the broadcast version of the show (along with "If You Sit On My Lap Today").
It's totally stupid that this part of the show would be deleted from the broadcast. Not only is it important to the story, this was my favorite song from the show as a little girl!

They deleted it , probably because it gives the idea that authority can be completely evil and uncaring ,which in a way is definitely true

@@mitzysmith8850 The most likely reason they cut it is because it doesn't push the story along. It's just a filler song for her emotional development but doesn't advance the actual plot. So the network gives it the boot to save on time.
But I also really enjoyed this scene as a kid and always looked forward to seeing it.

The point is the style and fads of the decade start showing their colors (literally) in this particular segment.

When I was a child, I used to have a VHS copy of this. However, I would usually avoid watching this because I found this scene to creepy for me to watch. So here I am as a young adult, watching this over and over because it's now my favorite song of the entire tv special.

This was my favorite song when I was a kid. This song is absolutely beautiful.
It bothers me that Jessica put her hair back up after that song.:/
But I do like how the grays on her dress turn into actual colors; symbolizing she's no longer apart of this bleak town & it's ridiculous laws.
Seriously, Somber Town has no colors in it except for dull muted shades of grays, bleached hues & browns. The only things that had color (before Jessica joined the Kringles) in the town were the toys, Kris' outfit, and Topper ' s scarf.
Keshia Anders That part was symbolic, Kris, Topper and the toys were the only bright things in the children's life.
Keshia and Kylie me and my family hated this song and laughed at it each year until now - thanks for the insight you are right it is a big part of the story and should not be deleted.

Oh I can actually somewhat explain the hair thing!
The reason she doesn't keep it down it's long lose hair is hard to animated in stop montion. This is due to all the strands of hair that could become lose and mess up the continuity of the scene. So unless her hair was very stiff they couldn't keep down or have to risk many retakes of her scenes. Having her hair tied up is easier to manage. It's also why she doesn't appear much/move despite this being her big number.
This may sound freaky to some, but Miss Jessica is quite a beauty, even for a Rankin Bass stop-motion character! Her and Elisa from the "Jack Frost" special are two holiday special crushes of mine.

It depends on what network is showing it. Over the years I have seen this song and the wedding scene both cut short or almost entirely deleted, probably to make time to fit in extra commercials.

@John Doe The animation they chose for this scene is movement/a visual effect, it's not something anyone could fail to understand. This special was made in 1970 so it isn't surprising that this scene looks trippy, whether intentional or not
I HATE that they cut this song out of the broadcast versions. Seeing this as a little kid this song was amazing and I still love it. Maybe it doesn't have anything to do with Christmas but it's the meaning of it, on top of the art of it, that I love so much plus the vocals are bombastic.

As a little kid in the 70's, this was my fave scene. Then in my 20's, I saw this scene on weed & REALLY got it, & of course, now it's TOTALLY my fave scene.
If this song was actually ever "deleted" from a broadcast, it would have been for time constraints, not content. There's nothing bannable about this song.

Just watched this movie an hour ago, for the first time in years. I'm a teenager now as opposed to a kid and a lot of messages this movie has in it really struck deep into me. The "boring" scenes from when I was a child actually have meaning now... This being one of them. I love how Jessica started as a slave to society and it's rules, and then she finally woke up. She let her hair down, sang in the fountain, and just acted as if she was finally free of the ball and chain society had strapped to her unconsciously. Just like around the time this movie was made with all the hippies starting to come about. Haha like people are saying it is like she took a trip and freed her mind haha and then afterwords saw the world, society, burger misters laws, all in a new way. Very powerful scene.

nick palmeri, I wouldn't say she was mean exactly, but rather narrow- minded and a little mistrustful of Nicholas at first. However, she soon becomes one of the first people in Sombertown to trust him, and of course eventually ends up falling for him and marrying him.

In the sixties when I was kid, this was what let it go is to todays kids, we even sang this in our 2nd grade Christmas program. This is a wonderful film, but this scene is by far the best.
As a kid, I always couldn't wait for this song to be over. But now, as an adult, I love it. And as far as the "trippy part" goes, I see it as a homage to the Broadway song, "Till There Was You" from the musical, "The Music Man". When you fall in love, you notice little things you never saw/ noticed before, your head is in the clouds, day-dreaming about them and you and your future together...at least that's how I saw it.
So THAT'S what happened when Rankin and Bass ingested LSD!

I just saw this special on Disney Family. There were some cuts in the show, but the songs remained, thank goodness. I saw it on a local station in '92, and this song was cut. It was my favorite song in this special! Beautifully song by Robie Lester.

Bloody amazing. My jaw really dropped at the part when the bird helped her put her hair down, It was so seventies yet so glamorous and feminine. And the whole video, with all the colors and styling and expression, plus her regal vintage voice, it was amazing.

Fortunately I grew up with the VHS so I got the full experience. 💕 This was and still is my favorite Xmas special. It makes me yearn for those good Christmas' from when I was a kid and still believed in the magic. This was always my fav part of the movie and the movie had great music and songs altogether.

I loved this song so much the year this first aired (yes, I go back that far) that the next year when it aired, I recorded it off of the TV using an audio cassette-recorder. That was before VCRs. Since this song is not a seasonal or Christmas song, I played it any and many times throughout the year. I still love it. A favorite.

This song and "If you sit on my lap." were removed to fit the crummy commercials on television. They couldn't time compress it; because you can tell by the jerking. If you
