One thing I always liked that they added is that, before this song, the Winter Warlock is never seen walking. He teleports everywhere. So this song is both a literal one about taking a first step and about taking steps towards redemption.
Cool. I never noticed that! Thank you!
Its also interesting in the lyrics, election and being reborn is added.
I never thought of that, good point
He walks towards the sleigh with baby Kris in it when the animals cover it with sticks.
I've watched this hundreds of times but never picked up on that nuance. Thank you!
People may laugh at me but this is a motivation song to me at 28 years old , and also brings tears to my eyes from memories as a family hearing this through the years
I'm not laughing I'm still watching this at 33 and it always fills me with motivation especially those moments when I get so caught up in my head.
I got you beat. 54 years of age who appreciates the motivation aspect of the song as opposed to when I was a kid.
No ones laughing brother. Only a real man would share this story. I feel exactly like that. Stay golden Lonnie. Have a happy new year. 🙏🏼

"Don't be the rule, be the exception"...what a great line!
But what does it mean?
@@soramembrino82 Simple, what it conveys is that the Winter Warlock believes that because he's mean and despicable at heart (on account of having "warlock" in his name and the infamy it got him) it makes it harder or impossible to change his ways, but Kris is more optimistic. He doesn't have to be a cruel cold-hearted person simply because of his reputation, he can be the exception to that.
Incredibly progressive script! So many good lines, prophetic really.
@@rickydavis4325
Best explanation ever
@@CBMOA Thanks man, it's what I do best.
When the Winter Warlock begins to take his steps, the song switches to a 7/4 time signature. This creates an 'aksak" or " limping" effect, which reflects how the Warlock is struggling to move forward.
It's amazing! I always noticed that part.
For the best part is how it picks up on the last line
I'm not feeling the 7/4. I feel it more like 4/4, 6/4 (half time) or maybe 8/8 (double time).
That's amazing!
I know!! I really like that part!!!
When I weighed over 300 lbs....I played this in my mind. With exercise, dieting and determination I lost 50 lbs in 4 months.
Congrats!
wow congrats !❤️❤️
❤️
Good for u man 👍
Ugh, having been fit until covid happened... this is inspiring. Thanks.
Given how often Kris defies gravity, I’m convinced he’s an airbender.
I’ve dreamt so many times I could fly like that... just pumping my legs like he does.
@@henryhammond7393 Keep pumping, Henry, keep pumping 💪🏾.
He knows the parkour. And does it easily on ice and snow.
I'm gonna go and try a triple axle right fast, on uneven, rocky ground.
See you in Seoul!
But that's just a theory of film theory and cut
I mean..he is Santa after all. Hehe
I learned how to walk with this song after a brain injury
This is the purest thing I’ve ever seen. Omg I hope your ok

That's so sweet! God bless.
Thats badass.
I learned to walk when when I was a baby from this song
This song helped me beat a fentanyl addiction and get back to normal life :) helped me as a kid cheer up
Praise God!
Who would have thought a Christmas special would have given me advice I would carry for the rest of my life!
Not just any Christmas special, a damn good Christmas special, one that has transcended generations think about that for a second
This song is one of the few happy memories from my childhood. The times around Christmas that I wasn’t abused or afraid, I can always remember watching this episode and listening to this song and everything felt okay for a bit.
💕
Your comment is touching! I work at a live in treatment facility for troubled youth and their stories of abuse break my heart every day! I hope you are doing well! ❤
@@thediesel4910 thank you! :”) Oh wow! That’s amazing! I’m trying to start college soon to be a child rehabilitation therapist. I want to show kids that not everyone in the world is as heartless as the people who hurt them. I can imagine it’s hard to work though and hear so many troubling stories.
@@beautyfrompainxxx It's great that you are getting into the field to help these poor kids! I wish you all the best!
Same here. Looking back on it now, I guess that was one of the main reasons why I always looked forward to Christmas. It was the 1 and only time in the year when I actually felt needed and loved by my parents and older siblings. I was abused in every aspect my whole life and every year I couldn't wait for Christmas. I remember being 6 or 7 years old and I prayed to God to let it be Christmas everyday. I sadly had to disown my birth family, but that never changed my love for Christmas
I always loved how manic Kris looks, when somebody says something that sounds ridiculous to him, lol
I did not grow up with this song, but when I was at my lowest points, and when I dip back into a bad pattern now, this song brings tears to my eyes and makes getting up and doing the next thing I need to feel possible again. I'm a licensed counselor, and I can't tell you how important it is for a person with depression to do "just one thing", even if it seems insignificant, to build the momentum they need to improve their lives. Sometimes, forgetting your to-do list, and just changing clothes, just taking a shower, just making the bed, just picking up some trash, or just eating some food makes the difference between a day where nothing gets done, and a day where half or even all of the things you wanted to do get done. Thanks for listening, and remember, it's always okay to come back to that first step, because it's a lesson that we keep learning our whole lives.
Truth! Im a counselor too, holistic healer, also avidly on my own healing journey.
Interestingly, your description can also work for mania. Doing just one thing, something simple and doing it fully, calms the system. One foot in front of the other.
Peace and bless to you and your practice.
🙏🏾⚛️🌛
I'm studying to be a counselor, and I agree with all of this
This really shows how merciful, humble, inspiring and kind Chris Kringle is. How he taught the Winter Warlock how to be good even after the warlock had him caught by his tree minions and threatened his life. He just set himself aside and was a kind and generous soul.
I mean, he IS Santa Claus after all. Wouldn't be very Santa like if he were shrewd and self centered, would it?
@@_thedarkmatter_it's why I prefer Santa Claus is Coming to Town over Rudolph, as in Rudolph Santa doesn't in the beginning accept Rudolph for his nose which I felt was out of character
@@ericburns9132 Santa was a total prick in that movie until he needed to use Rudolph for his gift. Dude was just a salty asshole to everyone for no apparent reason.. In this, he's a very jolly and kind man like you would expect Santa to be
I mean it was what he was “taught” for lack of a better term if he would’ve grown up in Sombertown his outlook would’ve been far different but then again we wouldn’t have had a story if he grew up there so yeah😆
@@ericburns9132 I didn’t think about that but yeah it is kind of out of character for him to be so judgmental
Who else here reliving childhood?
This was my all time jams as a kid.
Hell, I still watch all the Rankin\Bass specials every year and I'm 27 LOL. It's just not Christmas without them.
Yep and I’m only 19
BIG TIME 🤘
Mr
To all the commenters who are so affected by this song; I'm right there with you. I have loved this song since forever and sing along every year. Much love from central PA. Ho ho ho

Always loved the rankin/bass specials. Classics.
Me too.
Me three. But mainly Rudolph.
Now I think this one is one of my favorites.
my mom grew up watching this movie and it makes me happy to see her face glow while she watches something so nostalgic to her
I have been diagnosed with depression and bipolar and when I am depressed it feels everything is in slow motion and my body weighs 2000 lbs it's very hard to get out of bed. When he says a fast walking man is hard to beat I see it as the world of situation beating me down but I have the power to get out of bed no matter how hard my mind tells my everything is worthless I can get up and go for a walk or jog. I love this song and just wanted to say thanks to the guy that posted it on RUclips.
I’m really sorry about your situation
No one is worthless, especially not you, James. You are here for a purpose; get moving and your purpose will be presented to you. GOD BLESS!
This song, and covers of it, is my secret weapon to helping me overcome my pain to get up and walk. I suffer from hypermobility Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, and am unfortunately quite obese, so mobility is an uphill battle for me that I refuae to surrender to. This movie was my absolute favorite Xmas movie as a little girl, and this song in particular has always held a special place in my heart.
My father passed away this saturday, and I really wish we could've watched this one last time
I hope with this on, someway he can be watching from wherever he is
He is watching .. and one day you will be together again ..
Sang this to my mom multiple times a day in her last months when I'd help her walk. ♥️
Such an underrated song!
Whenever I’m backpacking and I start to get tired/sore/hungry/cramping etc. this song always seems to creep into my mind and I start to sing it to myself in a loop until I reach my camp for the night
Always funny how things can just find their way into your mind
My daughter and I sang it all along the Appalachian trail! 🤣
i’m so glad i’m not the only one😂
@@suzannecartwright6504 Lmao see and Wendigo or cryptid during the journey?
This is getting me through the day dealing with depression and disassociating.
Same here my friend

As a person with a disability that comes with having balance issues, I have affectionately dubbed this the "most condescending Christmas song". However, it has a beautiful message of trying each and every day, taking one step at a time, to improve yourself, and I think that's something we need now more then ever.
So many memories of skipping around the living room while singing along to this song when I was little. Gets me so nostalgic but gosh I can’t believe how fast time goes. I just don’t know how I remember things like this so vividly but all I can guess is that it’s just the power of pure happy moments in life and little memories of things like these are just so precious to me. I’ll always be so grateful for this movie and a lot of the other ones like it. I don’t know why I’m acting like I’m old though since I’m only 15 but still, the nostalgia is just so eminent for me and it just makes me so happy and sad at the same time.
I did the same thing and replayed this song a lot on the sing along tape.
That’s actually adorable
Without a doubt this is my favourite song from the movie, it's so catchy, positive and optimistic.
This Rankin/Bass special manages to teach core Christian values without actually getting biblical, and it's actually quite beautiful.

if only your parents could have known letting you watch it would lead you into a death spiral of anime and transgenderism...
@@rorke60921: what’s wrong with that 🤨
and 2: literally what does that have to do with funny santa claus motivation song
I adore the old Rankin-Bass specials! Even the ones people don't think about as much are just pure happiness. This is actually very motivating when you're haivng a hard time.
Yup. Still makes me tear up. Such happy childhood memories.
RIP Keenan and Mickey. They played some great roles in this movie.
I have extreme social anxiety to the point where I legit forget how to walk if I’m around people. So I look down & sing this in my head to remember how to walk. I always wondered where tf I heard it. Until last night when my boyfriend was talking about this and the Rudolph story. Im so glad I finally figured it out lmfao
I was born with bilateral clubbed foot.ive had many surgeries on my feet. My mom used to play this for me in the 90s and early 2000s. Its encouraged me to walk and really helped. Still a great memory to listen to this song.
dangit. My friend's dad started singing this under his breath while going up a hill. Tried to remember where it was from and thought 'no... it couldn't be from that Santa Claus movie' and sure enough.
Here I am
I finally see symbolism, going to God. I've loved this song since I was a small child. God bless to all.
💯🙌
This song is a moving anthem. 6 1/2 years ago, I caught an autoimmune virus that caused my whole lower area to be paralyzed from the waist down. So scary with fears of not being able to move around.... walk, run, or even dance. Went through tons of testing (which they call came negative). From the hospital to a rehab center, I went through 3 1/2 weeks of PT. On the last time, I was able to make a long route around the PT room and I walked out the door. A miracle moment. Now hearing this song reminds me on how much hard work it took for me to get back up on my feet again.
I knew this song very briefly as a kid. Then during COVID, I did a 50th Anniversary virtual production of this legendary special. Singing in the Ensemble which it came back into my life. At the same time, I was creating my own solo cabaret act which I got to do 2 runs in NYC this year. When I was finding songs in my setlist, I had this one in it. Literally my theme anthem now. It actually gets a great response from the audience.
PUT ONE FOOT IN FRONT OF THE OTHER AND SOON YOU'LL BE WALKING OUT THE DOOR!!
Awesome! 😀
I was obsessed with this movie as a kid, and i still am. Nothing beats the classics
40000% agreed
I play this song with my almost 3 year old niece, me and her sing along to the song together and she actually knows some of the song and even picks the song out on RUclips.
I’m going to use this for a sermon one day!
Would make a good one! The Jesus aspect is there, Just need to follow him and not "Santa". God is who actually reminded me of this song in my struggling right now😊
@@mamame5519☝️👏👏👏
I have a lot of social anxiety and this song really helps me do the things i’m nervous about
When I got Covid and I had to recover the strength to walk again, this is what I was singing in my head, crying as I tried to get my legs to both move and hold myself up.
RIP Arthur Rankin, Jr. and Jules Bass. I can't believe this film making duo has passed on.
I haven't seen this special in at least 50 years and I still think of this song every time I walk or bike up a steep hill.
There's a really cool spiritual analogy I find in this song, it encourages me to keep moving forward.

By far the best Christmas animation.
My family has quite a few of these old classics, we just watched this film a few hours ago. Brings back memories.
I wish there were Christmas shows like this. The innocence is gone in today’s world.
It’s lost only us old timers can understand how it was in our childhood .. miss my mom and dad .. best of times .. so innocent
We do our best to spread happiness… and hopefully make a change.. god bless
@@gribe79 We were lucky to have such great Christmas shows. I’m sorry about your parents. I just lost my Dad last year. I understand.
Sorry for your loss … I got divorced a few years back so going into retirement.. I was thinking Is this my life now .. god looks out for each of us .. I met this amazing Christian woman .. how she has made me see completely different …we have our memories it’s a snap shot in time .. just remember we will all be together again …
Me, tearing up, having almost unmanageable BPD and OCD and remembering my AWESOME childhood and motivation jam. One... step... at a time...
Recovering from a pretty severe ankle and leg break, and when I started taking steps on my own without crutches, this was the first song I played. Really motivates you and gets you moving!
As an amputee, I approve this song!
I miss these types of stop motion movies. I'll watch something like this any day over the animation stuff or live action that's out now.
I'm American and I live in a new country now. Watching these old Mickey Rooney Christmas movies brings back a lot of memories of Christmas with my family. I remember singing and dancing to this song so much when I was a kid. It was literally my first step (no pun intended) to getting into theatre. We would all come together and just have a good time. I miss my family a lot but I'm happy where I'm at. Merry Christmas everyone and I hope you all enjoy the holidays!
Merry Christmas from Canada!
I used to send this song to get me through basic training and every time I struggle. Bring back good memories of the Christmas seasons watching movies with family.
This song helped me through addiction, not joking. My heart is always humming this song.
To the creators of this song and the movie to transition from one part of your life to the next to go from something you dislike to something you enjoy to start something new that's scary and hard but exciting it is a good life lesson that should never be forgotten if this movie is ever remade which I don't see it needs to be maybe a little remastered so people decide to watch it again this scene this song is a valuable life lesson that I think kids in school need to hear I think adults should never forget
This is more than a song about walking..... it's about getting your life together and keep going even when you think you can't because life allows you to change direction and be the exception when you put one foot in front of the other
God, I remember watching this movie every single winter when I was little. Such an amazing film, I'm glad I grew up with it.
Still the best motivational song, of all time. Sad part is. Many, think it's a kid song! I loved this and watched it every year!
my senior year in college, and I am finding myself coming back and back to this video- it is a favorite childhood memory of having this playing at christmas time. now that me and my siblings are older my dad still makes the time to set this movie up for us, to never let us forget. I can never forget dad, and I thank you for being the chris cringle in our family ❤️ everyone needs this spirit, no matter the age. I will never stop watching this movie 🫶🏼
This is one song I always come back to that makes me smile
My FAVORITE Christmas song!!!!
I remember trying teach my grandmother to walk again with this song. She may have passed but I still think of her whenever I hear this song.

AAAAAAAAHHHH YES THE NOSTALGIA I LOVE THIS
I love this song. It brings back childhood memories, watching the cartoon during the Christmas Holiday w/my family. WOW.
love this movie.
Me too besides Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.
This is the Christmas special that introduced me to Rankin & Bass! And I’ve watched this every Christmas since the day I was born.
This is a very motivational song for any villain, bad guy, neer-do-well wanting to turn over a new leaf.
Just through my back out and remembered this song. Nothing but joy here
Started PT today post knee surgery and this is song is going to help me through it
I'm 31yrs old, my birthday is the 26th of December, and Christmas used to be my favorite holiday. Always watching Christmas movies with my family, the glistening lights of the morning of, the few feet of snow outside, and the magical feeling of what downstairs was to look like. I'll keep singing this forever
That's what Papa said to me...that's how he makes it through his day..after day.

My Mom sent this to me to motivate me. I'm coming back as a reminder!! 😊
I am 57 and remember watching these and many other episodes when I was a kid in the mid 1970s. I always liked them but now I have a much deeper appreciation for this song. It’s pretty much a universal positive message for anyone with any struggle.
We used to sing this to my youngest sister when we were teaching her to walk! 🥰
That's adorable.
That is absolutely adorable
Wholesome
One time I burst out singing this out of nowhere and my husband replies with "that song is way catchier than it deserves to be" lol
"TIMELESS MUSIC" YES! indeed.
Blasphemous as it might be to say, I think this special is better than Rudolph. I don’t know why, I just love it so much. It’s a great origin for Santa Clause.
Agreed
I love it more than Rudolph too I love the story, acting and soundtrack, and I preferred Santa Claus in this special than in Rudolph
most wholesome movie
I don't remember them doing this, but my parents said that they sang this to me and my siblings when we were learning how to walk.
Really creates quite a vibe when you're playing this song out loud as you end your career at an establishment.
They should play this song out of cop cars when people are taking the sobrity test where you take 9 steps
That song never gets old. 🎄😁👍

You'd be surprised at how many things used to give me anxiety, and now they no longer do thanks to this song making light of literally every ill situation!
It’s absolutely wild how so many of us use this song as a motivational tool even tho the premise is so simple.
I used to watch this as a kid but this song lives rent free in my head when I need a little push to get up and get to it…because adulting is… whew!
I would pay to see this if it was a Broadway production it would definitely bring back the good old days of Christmas but we must remember Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Christ and we must remember that he is forever immortal and true honest and kind. Amen to all that
