Thank you for answering my question about the videos of PCT and I continue to lobby for them. You have a great way of presenting and I am sure a lot of people will enjoy them. I start from Campo in May, very excited !
Yeah I would love to see pct videos. Amazing channel straight to the point, very relaxing to watch (especialy with that ambient music in the background).
Great information. Please do more vids. I’m 50, been hiking since I was about 8 years old and have always hated the stupid weights I ‘learned’ to carry. Everything got heavier and more robust. But painful. I need to unlearn. 🙏
Your videos are really good and relaxing, I'm looking forward to future content. Can you recommend any hiking shirts, since the one you used is out of production? I noticed that you wrote down below the PCT gear video that you were testing new options, is there maybe going to be a future video about that?
Thanks! Glad youre enjoying the videos so far :) Yeah I have ordered (and returned) quite a few different potential hiking shirts and the one I like the most right now is the Patagonia Sol Patrol shirt. My criteria is pretty specific and that one gets most of it right, but I still like my OR one a bit better. I will probably make a video about hiking clothing in the future if thats something people would be interested in!
Thanks for the response. I just happened to rewatch your PCT gear vid and this Q&A got recommended. Right after your other vid I did some scowering to see what others had cut and was glad to find there were quite a few who had documented it. I have a tall wind rider in black so am already at a disadvantage weight wise with the material color and sizing. I noticed the back padding was its own piece but haven't found anyone brave enough to cut it out. I think it helps add some good rigidity to the pack when going without the frame stays.
yeah I dont think its totally necessary to go as crazy with the snipping haha. depending on your baseweight though, I would say the frame stays might be overkill. The whole point is to be comfortable so just do what works best for you! I At this point I don't really focus on dropping that much weight because most of my stuff is light already, just pack and go.
I try my best to not reuse single use plastic water bottles for more than a few days because of the micro-plastics that are released when the bottle is exposed to heat/sun for health (but I usually keep it for way longer cuz I don’t like spending $ ha). And, I don’t like the plastic taste of water in plastic bottles. I ’ve been trying to figure out a way to cut out plastic entirely but haven’t found anything good when it comes to water storage yet.
Super late to the party. But on the topic of sleep pads. I used the x-lite for a while and just couldn’t get past how loud it was tossing on it. Switched to the switchback. Cut it down to 8 panels and rounded the ends. It actually fits down inside of my evlv 35l. Cotezi has a video of her packing her pack with the pad inside. I’ve used her strategy and it fits great and works well as a makeshift frame.
Hey Alan, love the channel. How long in advance did you prepare for the PCT? Did you have to do physical conditioning and how many miles a day did you do?
I knew I wanted to do it about a year in advance and took the previous summer to do as many smaller trips as I could to dial everything in and gain experience. I'd recommend a lot of little trips over one longer trip. If you're in average shape the trail will do enough to get you in shape. haha
For the mileage, it really depends on the terrain but I was usually doing anywhere from 25-35 miles a day. Towards the end I was doing 30s pretty consistently.
hey, i would realy enjoy a pct video ^^ i like your calm energy :) only please not with the music from "Hiking Off Trail on Mt. Rainier"-video, it was a bit like traffic sounds XD
would love to see pct vids. your current vids are so relaxing and that style in combination with the pct would be amazing

We want to see your PCT hike!
If you added PCT in the title I am sure you'd get more views. Just saying Q&A could mean...anything. I appreciate your videos, thanks for being you!
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll update the video!
