Hi Melissa, I am a adult skater sixty year old and working in my Axel. I am very close to get it. My goal is to get my Axel by the end of 2016. I want to Thank You for the breaking down of the Axel on this video. You did such a wonderful job. I have been looking for a video like this to help me with my Axel. I saw many but nothing like yours. Personally I think your video on the Axel as the best description and explanation. Thank You again I really do appreciated. Lise 👍 🌺
The Axel has been such a problem for me haha. I started learning it for real in 2015 and couldn't cross my legs. At the end of April 2016, I started the crossing the legs and landed it but took a break for the summer, went back on 3 weeks ago, lost the crossing legs and got it completely back yesterday. Double sal, here I come!!!
congrats!! It really blows my mind how easy it is to forget how to do some of these jumps. even when I was learning triples I forgot how to do some of my doubles because it's a different feeling....I'm so happy that you were able to relearn your axel! you'll get your salchow in no time as well!
Thanks! My Axel now isn't perfect though... I seem to turn in a lot but I'm just trying to go in like I would in a waltz jump and who cares if I miss rotation or fall.
Also, how do I know of my skates are good enough? Like strong enough? Because I got my skates in the summer of 2015 and they gave me skates for like higher doubles but now they are just a tiny bit bent on the sides. I tend to jump really high so maybe that's why? Also when I skate, the "tongue" bends a bit down and doesn't stay straight... And last question... When I do my lutz, when I land it hurts my foot a bit... Mainly my toes... Is this Norma? Sorry for all of the questions. If you don't know what to answer, don't worry, I just don't have anybody to talk to and since you are a really advanced skater, it might be better. Sorry again
Ah maybe if you are having pain it may time to move onto new skates. It's definitely something you can talk to your coach about to get an opinion. Without the support from the skates it may be adding stress to your foot. Always listen to your body and try to be proactive about pain instead of reactive to avoid bigger injuries.
Hello, thank you for the video first of all. I wanted to ask something. I am a 24 year old male. Just started skating about 4 months ago and I loved it. I cant keep myself out of the ice since then. I go to my local rink at least 5 times a week. Now, I will start taking private lessons. But I was wondering, as an adult, is it possible for me to do a single axel ? I know I will never be able to do triples or quads but all I want is a single axel or maybe some doubles. Do you think I can get them ? Thank you again.
Hi Melissa, Thank You for asking, no I don't have my Axel yet but I am not giving up. I have to skate in the public session which It make very difficult for me to practice the Axel as much as I would like. I am hoping I will get it very soon. Right now I am working at jumping higher. May be that will help me getting my Axel. ⛸ Finger cross! 🤞 Lise 🌺 🦋
The hardest jump for me for sure has been the toe loop. It took me two years to land because i would just do a toe axel and not be able to get out of the rut and then last summer i landed it and had it consistent the whole summer until i took a 3 week break and then i lost it until i got it back at the end of winter. It has been super frustrating! I landed my double flip for the first time the second day of working on it but this stupid toe keeps getting away from me
any tips for in air position? I'm 27 this year, just started a few months ago. I'm a bit scared of bringing the right leg down after swinging it up. I can get the rotation but I heard that if you bring the right leg down, it helps to rotate faster as the in air position in tighter. i used to think by bringing the right leg down, it means you go down as well but some people tell me by bringing the right leg down, you're actually bringing yourself up higher. Please take a look at my axel over at -> instagram.com/p/BPe1ulijOfx/?taken-by=magicalneo

If you do have the habit of letting your free side swing into the circle, what can you do to fix it?
Valerie W Think about jumping outside of the circle!
i used to do this. try jumping more up and not around yourself
