  • I was on 2 week work assignment and came home to a devastating sight. My beloved houseplant Ryan had been struck by the ongoing heatwave. I gave it some water and left camera on for a 18 hour timelapse. See what happens!

    A couple of days ago I found a plant in worse condition than yours. It looked like it has been pounded on, but it still had some green in the stalks so I thought I would give it a try at reviving it. I watered it well but the soil was so dry, the water went right through it immediately. Seeing how the soil was not hydrating itself properly just by pouring the water from above, I thought I would try the other end and I left a little bit of water in the dish I placed the plant in, so that the soil can hydrate through the bottom of the pot. A few hours later I was shocked to see the plant come back to life!! I then removed the dried parts and replanted it in a better pot, and babied it a little more. I hope that this traumatic event in her life will soon become a bad memory, quickly forgotten. I love how plants are so resilient and forgiving, and ready to bring us joy and brighten our lives when we care for them! I can't wait to see it grow and start flowering!!! Happy planting!

    We had one that was down to a stick with a tiny bit of new green growth on it. I was on my way to the compost heap with it but, because my daughter had named it (Martin), decided to give it one more try. Checked out what we did wrong on youtube (just about everything - mostly overwatering and too much direct sunlight). Changed things up and had a small but healthy plant a year later. Two years later Martin was so big that we subdivided him into three when we repotted. They are hardy plants if you are don't overwater and keep them out of the sun.

    I tossed out a string of pearls because it got all wrinkly and I thought it was dead…that’s before I learned that plants droop and show signs of being thirsty! Doesn’t mean their dead. It’s so cool to see the Timelapse of them rising again 🤗

    My plant was so beautyfull...one day it looked like a bomb fell in the middle and all leaves hang down. Soil was wet enough so did not give any water for 2 weeks. It didnt get better... so i gave again water...no reaction. One day i decided to look to the roots. Indeed there were roots black and slimy. Others looked okay. Put it in New soil. A tiny bit of water on it. The weeks passed by and it looked awful. I saw still little new leaves but flappy. After almost 3 months i put the plant in a corner, gave it weekly some water, waiting. Since a few days i saw some leaves standing pearky up again...rest hangt over pot. So to see there is some life in it still. Waiting, hopefully it will all raise up....but i am a 3 months further

    OK...at the risk of sounding like a wimp....this actually brought tears to my eyes. My peace lily from my dad's funeral is not a bright, deep green anymore...the leaves are not yellow but they are a yellowish green. Do you think it's been overwatered? Should I repot into dry soil? Is it too far gone? I hope not. Just looking at "Ryan" at first I thought he was a goner. That time-lapse photography was beautiful and inspiring. Fingers crossed for my "Lewis".

      Do not put your peace lily on direct light. They like dappled sunlight, bright indirect to be specific, but they can also live on low light conditions too! If your peace lily is variegated then it needs more light to keep it. Peace lilies like their soil to be moist, but not too much since it can promote root rot! I usually water mine every 4 days, and the soil I have for it has pretty good water retention! If you’re having problems knowing when to water, just dig your finger through the soil until it’s as deep as where the roots are, and check if it is very damp or dry. When you water, don’t water inside its middle. Peace lilies have this middle stem which is their main one, and they’re very prone to root rot. So, water from the sides of the plant! Lastly, keep your plant’s surrounding humid, they like high humidity very much actually! I’ve never had a problem with my peace lily when it comes to humidity, since my area averages 75% humidity everyday throughout the seasons! Lastly, I want to end my comment with a self-diagnose to your plant, so take my words with a grain of salt! When a plant grows new leaves, they appear to be a yellow-green color, before turning to its mature green/dark green color. But if those leaves you have are not new, I don’t really know. Feel the leaves. If they feel wet and soggy, it’s overwatering. If they feel crispy and have crumpled texture, it’s underwatering.

    I hope I never do this to my peace lily. It had a bad run in the nursery and I'm trying to rehabilitate it. They under watered it and I think over watered where it stood In water for a prolonged period or something. It just had dried edges on the leaves baby leaves new developed leaves and some flowers. Just waiting to see if it makes it through the repotting stage

    • @atvkid0805
      @atvkid0805 4 года назад +4

      how long have you had it? have you changed anything recently like turning on the air conditioner? Don't water until it droops you don't want root rot, if the soil is dry to your second knuckle water it. If you are developing yellow spots or yellow/brown tips it is in too much sun or over watering. If you suspect over watering repot into dry soil & don't water it for a few days. Alternatively if the humidity is too low you will also get brown tips but I don't think that causes drooping.
