  • My Gong SuperPower 6m wing arrived a couple of weeks ago. This is an unboxing and first flight video to give those a better idea of the wing from a standard users perspective.
    All was filmed before the UK went into lock down with the Corona Virus so it is going to take quite a while before I get a chance for flight number 2. Conditions were 15 knots and I was using the gong zuma 6ft 9" board with the XXL Pro wing on an 80 cm mast.
    Feel free to ask me questions if you are considering this wing. It is very powerful and with good technique (I'm not there yet!) will definitely open up wind winging in lighter winds that you might previously only associate with kitesurfing.
    Please like and subscribe. It really helps me to know you find these videos useful.

    Nice vid!.
    I have just ordered a 6m SuperP like yours.
    I have the 5m Original and with my lack of technique i need a gale to get up on foil(Allvator L,73kg).
    Think this wing will help a lot.
    I also have a Zuma with SUP strap inserts, i mounted both in front in parallel but offsetting where the screw goes into the holes in the strap to get a tiny angle.Might get strap insert installed because they really make foil control easier.

      Yes, I needed 20mph with the original 5m. It has amazing top end though. I am turning around to the idea of foot straps. I have started using a front strap for sup foiling in the waves and it does give more control. Enjoy the 6m superpower.

    Hi, I have same set up as you. I ordered a 9m which won't arrive till...hopefully end of April, but who knows. Hopefully the 9m will be perfect for light summer winds, and by then hopefully I'll have more skill at pumping my 5m up in the low end wind range for it. What I'm interested in is your front footstrap set up. On the Zuma I have you can only set it up one way, regular or goofy. I was thinking of rigging some sort of base plate up across the back bolt holes so I could mount the footstrap to run fore to aft with no angle so I could use it on starboard and port tack. Is that what you have done? Looks like you have mounted some sort of base plate.

      Where are you based? A 9m is going to be so powerful 😀. I just have a plastic board screwed down over the existing holes and a surf pad stuck over the top to give me foot something to lean against.

      @@jamesdixon2219 Lyme Regis. Just prior to the lock down...booo hooo, lots of 15knt+ winds, so been great. I'm 90Kg+, originally from a windsurfing background then to SUP, to foil\ wing, and have always preferred being overpowered to under powered, laziness vs technique I guess! The videos of people like ruclips.net/video/KyEXhYHhDBQ/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/1UJcP6hB63M/видео.html getting going in 10knts with 4 - 6m sails is awesome. I'm not there yet! My whole process with the foil thing is: keep every step as simple as possible, as I progress change the gear. Once up, I've figured out how to keep it going through big lulls, but the starting part when not a decent wind blowing, I don't have fully dialed. In lighter wind, slowly figuring out pumping the foil and wing to get going. So my hope is, where I struggle to get going with the 5m, I'll whack up the 9m! Let's see what happens. I'm also thinking of getting a Flint 5'10. Their 100cm carbon masts look awesome. Lock down, please finish soon.

      @@nickmary1234 I have a 5ft 10" flint coming. Not sure when it will arrive now though. Would love to see how a 9m goes. Those 12 knot days will be common in the summer (if we are back out again). I kite foil but love the simplicity of the wing. My main goal is to get good enough to get to the waves and then just glide! That is the plan. Not sure how long it will take though!

      @@jamesdixon2219 Very interested! I have a 633 with my 7m and 10m kites.. thinking I could get the moses 1100 (2000 cm2) foil, a 9m wing and and foil sup. Trying to find a foil sup supplier in Canada.. think I could get away with a slightly smaller board at 70kg?

    • @jamesdixon2219
      @jamesdixon2219  4 года назад

      At 70kg you can definitely go smaller. Some say your weight plus 20 + the weight of the board. So for you and say an 8kg board it would be 97 litre. I don't need all the volume I have in the zuma although it does make it very comfortable. If you want a nice, easy start, go around 110-120 litre but I think you could go as low as 100 litres and still be ok.

    How do you like the XXL curve foil wing? I'm thinking about buying it for super lightwind days and was wondering how much of a difference it is compared to the X(X)L rise wings.

    • @jamesdixon2219
      @jamesdixon2219  3 года назад +1

      It is my go to wing for light winds. It is a beast but gets you up very early, especially when paired with the 55cm rear stab. It has quite a bit more speed than the rise. I found the rise quite slow.

  • @northyvids

    hi what size zuma board would you suggest for a 90kg novice who has windsurfed and wind foiled but not sup foiled....6.6?

    • @jamesdixon2219
      @jamesdixon2219  4 года назад

      Are you planning on just using it for wing foiling? 6ft 6" would suit that. If you are wanting it for sup foiling in the waves, the 6ft 6" would be ok but the 6ft 9" takes some beating for 85kg+. It is really stable and still relatively short and light so you can concentrate on solely the flight. Sup surf foiling is my hardest discipline. It is awesome and so rewarding but much harder than wind assisted foiling. Hope that helps.

    Nice video James, I have that coming in a 5 at the end of April, hopefully if COVID hasn't disrupted the supply chain. I can see I will probably end up buying the 6 as well based on your video. What about inflation, is there a marker/gauge so you don't under or over pressurise?

    • @jamesdixon2219
      @jamesdixon2219  4 года назад

      Thanks. Gong are shut down completely at the moment so expect delays. I have a flint board on order for a similar time but expecting it to be summer time now. Pressure should be 8-10 psi. I have a pressure guage on my pump which I use. They don't come with a pump so you will either need one or add it to your order. If you have one you can buy a guage for not too much.
