riding a 4.5m Strike and a 9m Gong in the same evening

- What a beautiful night at Pleasure Bay. Nothing like cooling off in the midst of a heatwave. Enough wind to rock the 4.5m, not my usual go-to for low 20's mph but it was cool to try it for the sesh. Just when I think I'm done, I got the opportunity to try a 9m Gong Superpower. Y'all know I like power, right? Well it wasn't as bad as I thought power-wise. But I think I prefer the 4.5m...
Gong 9m - like waggling a big floppy jelly in the air and hoping for some lift, it did make me laugh though
Lol totally. I couldn’t not include this experience. Maybe I’ll get to try one of their newer wings sometime 🤞 the look like they made some improvements. But when you hear that gunshot of a bladder/LE popping, I don’t think anyone on the beach pumps their kites or wings super hard out of reflex. We could have put another psi or two in there an I bet it would have made some difference. But still, total jellyfish with something that big. Have an awesome week Ashley!!

When I learned I had two wings, an OG Naish 4m and the Gong Superpower 9m. I only got on foil once with the Naish, the Gong was my main wing I learned to wing foil with. 6 months later I got my first Duotone Echo 7m, game changer, followed by my 5m Echo. Hoping to sell my Echoes and Slicks to get more 2022 Units. I’m loving my 5.5m Unit, but I predominantly use a 6m wing at my local lake. Yesterday at Sherman Island, I used my new Unit and 4m Echo, good times. Congrats on surpassing 1k
Oh man a 7m Echo must have been powerful upgrade 😜 yeah the Units are def nice and give me 6mo and maybe I’ll be upgrading, who knows. I still love Strikes. And I’ve always wanted to ride at Sherman… that’s sweet you had a good sesh. Have an awesome week bud!

I find the gong wings pretty good never tried the sp tho, I can see its older v1 as well they have come on a long way 3 years on. I have just done a mini look at the v2 druid I have had for few months i found there a little heavier but not to clunky no more than my unit but massive improvement from v1 the druid has loads of power for a big guy like me

Thanks bud!. I don't meant to knock Gongs. I really want to try them and I've only had 2 chances, and they are with these old versions. No one rides them around here. I'm super curious about their wave wing, I assume it's my style of wing but who knows. I'll cross my fingers I'll get my hands on one more sometime soon!
I went out yesterday in similar conditions riding the upper limit of a 5.5, could’ve easily been on 4.5. When I went out I saw someone coming in with a 9m gong. Looked like a terrible idea to me and overall a lot less fun. That being said, their newest smaller wings look sweet!
Yeah there are bigger people that definitely need more pull to get up. So I don’t see that Gong as a purely light wind wing… but maybe the new ones are a lot better geared towards that end. I’m def interested in trying their new wings… the Superpower I need to try to see how different it is, but the wave wing has my eye as well. No one has them around here so I may never know. i tried the superpower gong 6m and it's clunky af to be honest , the lath you have ton put on the wing are annoying as hell, i brought one used, one exit and the central blader exploded ... hopefuly for me the seller took it back. The one you and i tried are the old version tho, they are at v3 now.
Yeah I was on their website this week, noticed they were on the v3. I cut out like 45 seconds of me asking Gong to send me new version to review. I am totally curious. Of the Superpower and the Neutra wave wings as well.
Maybe it wasn’t inflated to pressure? My 8m CWC don’t flop like that.
Lol mine doesn’t either! It was relatively hard, but after popping his 7.5m he wasn’t gonna over pump the 9m cause he was out of wings. So it could have used a little more psi for sure but I bet it was up to their recommended psi. Stick with your 8m 😎👍
@@OCEANBOUND1 apprently from the gong boss, there is not a recommanded psi anymore on their wing ... they cover their ass as much as they can 🤣
@@OCEANBOUND1 to be fair that is an ancient Gong. Their early wings predate the first Strike. It’s like flying a first gen two line no depower Kite and then saying my duotone neo is better. The new gongs are very different.
@@rorymyles I’m sure they are! It’s not fair to review something that’s dated. This was a novelty. I’d be happy to try a newer Gong, no one really rides them up here so I don’t have the option. Have them send me as Superpower or a Neutra to demo and I’d totally be stoked to do a full review👍

Not very relevant to be reviewing a V2 Gong wing. That Gong is like 4 generations "OLD". they're on the 5th gen now. and I think their 6m is the one most seem to like.
I'm hoping someone one day soon will be able to compete with the CWC8 in early light wind flight
Right on bud. I don’t consider this a review. More of a novelty sesh being on a 4.5 and then going out on a wing double the size. But I’d love to try a new one and review it. I love big wings.
