Because writing epic songs takes time... Simple rhetorical question: would you rather have 35 minutes of great music or 35 minutes of good music and 20 minutes of filler?
Because otherwise it would have been more than 35 minutes and you wouldn't have been able to make this specific comment without making a strange impression (to me at least...)
I play guitar so I understand the logistics of song writing and making good music. I like the live version of this EP better than the original, imo of course.
Usually, i think people say they like them live more as a suck up kind of thing, but this is seriously fucking good. And i agree 100%. The feel is totally different.
This album is even better "live", as an uninterrupted flow. I usually appreciate the small quality improvements of a track-by-track production, but this live production is just flawless. No one would ever believe Toska is just a trio. If anything I prefer the less-mastered dynamic quality of this recording. It's one of the better sounding albums I've heard in a long time. Thanks for pouring your heart and soul into this work.
I love that this is presented here as one continuous track! Experimental Prog metal meets experimental indie shoegazey Radioheady Sigurd Ross style ambiences!!! Surprisingly melodic and well orchestrated enough to be palatable , even catchy! But with time sig changes and interesting harmony and even counterpoint in there it's Sophisticated enough to keep you guessing. Oh and by the way Rabea Massad is one of the best guitar players alive... Seriously he's barely begun and already has such a clear and original voice......mark my words sky's the limit for him. Even if you don't like metal check it out
William Davis hey man I agree with everything u said about this album. It's so amazing. All 3 great musicians. I was wondering if u could point out to me on what part of the album do they use counterpoint as melodies. I'm learning a lot of theory right now, so I understood most of ur comment but I'm interested if u could tell me at what time of which song they use counterpoint. Would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Casey Nevels From listening to it and being familiar with Bea's style, it's likely the chord voicings he uses during the cleaner spacey parts, as they're very piano like and spread out. Especially with them using very low tunings, I could see how it would give the Bass, tenor, alto, soprano vibes.
Totally agree. Toska are one of only a few modern ''metal" bands that actually have a unique sound. Most of them just sound the same. And Rabea is perhaps the only youtube musician (besides Adam Neeley, Rick Beato and Andrew Huang) that actually has spmething to say as a real musician. It is great to find stuff like this!
This to me is experimental jazz meets progressive metal. I am completely gobsmacked at the technical proficiency, and the obvious chemistry of this amazing three piece. They constantly up the bar, and stand convention on its head and kick the crap out of it Jet Li style.
I really respect how open you are to people listening to your music for free! You guys are in it for the music and everything else is just a bonus to you! You guys deserve way more recognition 😊
hey man I would like to say thank you so much for uploading this since I live in Kosova and we really cant buy songs from itunes and are forced to listen to music from youtube or illegal downloading and you are one of my favorite artists and allways an inspiration and the fact that this is on youtube even though its for sale on itunes shows that you love music and know how much others love music. Once again thank you and greetings from Kosova
For some reason I prefer the live drums with the natural sound of the room. when thats live, than thats amazing recording, everything fits! Also awesomely played, hats off!!
Awesome chunky sound. Killer riffs. That intro into chalk teeth @1:12 was crazy! Definitely looking forward to see what this band puts forth in the future!
Awsome! This sounds really good! I've heard the EP some 20 or 30 times now, and this felt good in my ears. I mean, because it sounds a bit different. Sort of new, right. While we're all waiting for a full album, or two! Wish I had been there when you recorded this!
Great job on the live version, all the EP is majestical, Illumo is an hell of a song, I keep wondering how inspire you to compose such beautiful music !
thanks for sharing with with us Rabea !!! Since the release of thelive EP, it's looping always through my headphones, can't stop hearing your music guys. Waiting for the full Video !!! Keep on rockin' and inspiring us !! love you guys
Toska simply must tour the US. I can see them getting absolutely huge here. Imagine them opening for Trivium, or Devin Townsend. I'd go see that in less than a heartbeat. Or maybe even opening for Oysterhead a complete mind altering experience.
Not just good, this is great! They are the AC/DC of the more progressive stuff, so tight and interesting and even the complicated stuff seems to have a meaning and fire to it! Thanks!
Meaning the best there is of that stuff, not as in "simple" like AC/DC, though AC/DC really isn't that simple if you try to do it right! So basically if you want to hear a good rock band you think of AC/DC, and if you want to hear something more progressive, you would think of these guys! Hope this clears the idea for you!
I know what you mean in terms of doing the kicking ass bit first before getting ridiculously guitar wanky. It is a good comparison in their respective genres.
This is some dope music. I don't know how you did it, but you achived what not so many can. I'm so fucking addicted to this ep! Can I order it somehow in physical form?
i bought this (£5 pre order) and i didn't realise the video was up as a separate purchase for £10. can I pay an extra £5 and get the video if i give you guys proof of my previous purchase? i want the video but seems like buying the audio twice is pointless
Pre-ordered the full bundle 2 hours after it was announced. Waited patiently till 27 Feb, the release date. Got nothing. Waited some more, still nothing. Now full EP available on RUclips and I still got nothing... :(
I'm promoting your music everywhere I can in SoCal, and I hope you guys come here some time. If you ever want to do a San Diego/LA tour, let me know. A friend is a very successful promoter in LA. I hope you guys take over the world. I, for one, welcome our new British prog metal overlords.
Thx Dudes!!! Do those guys (like me), who bought this "BlueRayLimitedHoodieDingDong-Package" will receive an email, when this awesome Stuff is on its way? How long we have to wait for it?
veith delberg I ordered the Ode to the Author CD and a T shirt on Feb 20. But as yet no sign of availability or delivery. My order is still classified as 'Processing'.
Rabea & Pete late night jam (search youtube) Pete must have had some coffee as he is not firing !! (hehe) (not in playing tho!) Bea and Pete are THE shite!!
Chasm and Ilumo. Wish I could Like the video again every time I come back to listen to this start to finish
best 35 minutes of my day. why did it have to end

it's actually 34 minutes and 59 seconds
Usually, i think people say they like them live more as a suck up kind of thing, but this is seriously fucking good. And i agree 100%. The feel is totally different.

I'm completely blown away by how well crafted these songs are. To me this is perfect music.
infantile is probably on of the best instrumental songs ever made in this genre. it's right up there with the dance of eternity and erotomania.
This version captures your chemistry much better than the studio version.
This to me is experimental jazz meets progressive metal. I am completely gobsmacked at the technical proficiency, and the obvious chemistry of this amazing three piece. They constantly up the bar, and stand convention on its head and kick the crap out of it Jet Li style.
I'm a simple man. I see Toska EP's, I rate them up.
You boys have really got something special here.
Great like always. Musicians music.
I really respect how open you are to people listening to your music for free! You guys are in it for the music and everything else is just a bonus to you! You guys deserve way more recognition 😊
Please never give up on Toska, keep making interesting, unique and enjoyable rock music.

Not just good, this is great! They are the AC/DC of the more progressive stuff, so tight and interesting and even the complicated stuff seems to have a meaning and fire to it! Thanks!
Kurgle Kreutzer I don't understand the comparison to AC/DC

Kurgle Kreutzer But AC/DC has been writing the same song for 12 albums...
I know what you mean in terms of doing the kicking ass bit first before getting ridiculously guitar wanky. It is a good comparison in their respective genres.
But if it's a good song, why change....

Nice! This so fu... good! :)
Fucking awesome. I love Chalk Teeth.
Do I hear Allan Watts there?...
Anyway, I have a new favorite band now, after listening to this. :D
This is fucking great
What was the inspiration during this part 3:20 - 4:30 ? Sounds similar to the rhythm and melodies used in some Puertorican folk music.
yasssssssssss!!!
Thats live?? WTF thats too tight to be live...nice job guys
How has this got a dislike....
Fuckong awesome!!!!
Pre-ordered the full bundle 2 hours after it was announced. Waited patiently till 27 Feb, the release date. Got nothing. Waited some more, still nothing. Now full EP available on RUclips and I still got nothing... :(
