I thought I'd wait a little while to see what the general consensus was over this music. I'm so so happy and proud to see everyone enjoying this music so much, it really does mean the world!
+Rabea Massaad rabea i know this is a weird request but can you please please please please please do a cover of glass by incubus because i saw your sounds like video of incubus and you played glass in between and you sounded so amazing and i can imagine you nailing it bit by bit and i remember you doing extreme covers and you sounded so on point. Plus you are an incubus fan so i would be so happy if you could fulfill this tiny request and i love this album to pieces already keep up the good work because you inspire me a lot as a musician.
+Rabea Massaad I wait up on the release day to listen to this ep, I've been listening to it nonstop and lllumo is a killer track definitely my favourite. the transition into the slow groove is insane, can't wait to hear more and see you in London. P.s your honestly in my top 5 of guitar players
+Rabea Massaad Dear Bea - I've been humming the melodies of these songs to myself all day long..... You boyz might want to purchase the entire Jeff Beck collection of albums. Maybe, you might learn something and incorporate it.
I just want to say thank you so much to everyone who has streamed, bought, shared, liked, commented on or generally shared their good vibes for our music. It means a huge amount to all of us!
To record the guitars for this record i used: Chapman Guitars Victory VX Kraken Marshall JVM 410H Peavey 5150 MKI TwoNotes Torpedo Live My Pedal Board: GigRig G2 Strymon Timeline/Bigsky/Mobius EHX POG Buffalo FX Germanium Fuzz Coopersonic Germaniac Mr Black ThunderClaw Mesa Flux Drive
+Rabea Massaad No 5150 or JVM? Well, obviously not, but I mean any reason, or the Kraken just sounding like enough of a beast? Love this man, great song writing and huge tone! I will seriously contribute to the number of views this video gets, and I really appreciate you putting it up!
+Rabea Massed Haha. Nice man. I remember you saying you used the JVM on one side, Kraken on the other and the 5150 as the thickener. By the way, there's real magical moment in this around 14:54 where the soft lead comes in in Illumo, and it's a standout moment on this EP.
+Richard Mason ahh dude thank you so much! Really love how you and lots of others are enjoying this music. It really means a lot. I agree, it's one of my favourite parts on the record!
I really admire this work. One can really tell this is just music for the sake of music. Instead of non-stop pointless shred and endless muddy bass tones; you make more of a progressive style of metal. It really does just exude creativity.
This is genuinely one of the best albums I've ever heard. Rabea, you are a guitar god, Dave, you are one of the most interesting bass players I've heard in years and Ben your percussion is so well constructed. I look forward to hearing more from you guys, hope to see you gig in the future. IIlumo is my favourite by the way :)
Not a thousand words can describe what this is.. it's not music.. it's not just playing some chords and beats together.. It tells a story. Just from the first note i closed my eyes and imagined all the shit, that happened in my life. From fucking great times i had with my friends, to graduating school and getting a job.. but it also reminds me on all the family members that I've lost, and all the shit that happens in the world.. All the people who get killed by bullets and bombs. What i wanted to say was... This is more than music. It's the masterpiece of you three guys, and the story that you have to tell. And this is what it is all about. If anybody ever got into themselfs like you, and would think what's in their minds, the world would be a better place. Illumo proofs it. The heavy riffs in the songs before sound like fucking war. and the Intro to Illumo sounds like anybody is dead and killed, so mother earth found peace again. which will be the case, if we won't take better care in the future.. What ever was or is in your minds, guys... It was so true and real.. not a fucking thousand words can describe what you've written there.. It is just absolutely mindblowing..
would be so sick to get live studio play through of each song. just to see what goes into this music for us who cant see you live. plus seeing Dave rock the fuck out
randomly came across this album clicking random yt racomandations. great atmosphere, seems like going 400 km/h out in the desert with each instrument trying to overtake me, then slowing down, going back full speed, a meteor falling down in front of me but dodging it with a sincopated riff. sounds confusing but this is great musicianship and i always try to express the feeling i get from something i listen to. i wish you guys the best of luck. make more. 5/5 /pip
Rabea, I JUST discovered this. And I'm ABSOLUTELY blown away. I'm serious. I've not been floored this hard by an album since Opeth's Deliverance/Damnation double album I bought six years ago. Holy. Fucking. Shit. Wow. Cheers, man.
I love the range of emotion on this album. From soaring heights to the quiet passages. it all just evokes so much thought and feeling. Absolutely brilliant musicianship, too. Still trying to wrap my brain around all the crazy off timing stuff and intricate riffs. I haven't really been listening to any other albums but this, at the moment. Just too great to really get into anything else right now. :)
This is one of those stories that begin with a "joint". Feel free to read. It so happens that I had to come to work today, Dec 24th. (And I'm sorry for those who also have to work these days.) So, I was almost at the subway station when I was seen by an old friend, already smoking one on the sidewalk! So we started talking and walking and I ended up smoking too. After a magnificent 10 minutes conversation, I got on the train and went to work. And I chose this album to go with me. What it got me thinking! The places of my past that I got to visit, the thing I learned while commuting... Man! I feel I've grown. Now have passed like 5 hours so the effect has totally gone by now, but I'm still stuck with what I learned. And it brings me peace. I'm not supporting in any way the use of drugs, but I'm not gonna change a true story. Thank you guys for such pleasure of an album. I feel more light as a person now. I'll stick to what I've learned. Thanks
Bea this is absolute crazy, all the songs seems classical music with modern instruments, stunning atmospheres. That's an'immense EP thank you for write and share this music and keep it up !
Just wanted to tell you that after almost a year this EP sounds as fresh as day 1, I listen to these songs on a daily basis and I just can't stop doing that. Phoneme/Illumo is incredible, i wonder what gave you the inspiration to create such music. What you see when you play it .. Also I can't wait for the live version and the new EP. Cheers from Italy !
I know this won't sound like a compliment at first, but hear me out. This music put my 1 year old son to sleep. See, doesn't sound very nice does it? This kid is a rocker. Lullabies just make him angry. When nothing else works, I go downstairs and crank up some Alter Bridge, Baroness or lately Dorje and he goes right out. Thanks for the sleepy music Rebea.

Man, all these years later, the last song STILL gives me full on chills. What an actual perfect song. This is to this day my favourite thing you've EVER done, along with the "does it djent" kraken video :D
I like the title and the cover. My interpretation is that the brain represents the creative process of composition : one hemisphere reprents total creativity and chaos, which has to be paired with reflexion and structure. Ideally, the proportion of these should be 50:50 to create good (prog) music (at least, this is my opinion, and it is depicted like this). So, this is litterally an ode to composition and composers.
I absolutely love this album. I wasn't 100% when I first heard it, but the album builds to the end and after a full listen I realized how amazing it is. Favorite songs: Infantile and Illumo.
This album Is extremely underrated... Its amazing I cant stop listening to it, There are parts to this that are musical masterpieces. You guys have something special here thats for sure. I cant wait for more!
After 3 months of this I wish you guys had a synth/vst/keyboard guy. Its crazy how much ambient you can add to this, it would totally make this feel much more moody which is the sickest part of instrumental music.
Best instrumental album I have heard in a long time. Toska and Dorje are of my top 5 favorite list of bands. I think ye make some exeptional music. I cant stop listening to it. ;) ;)
Awsome ep mate!!!Thanks for sharing it with us here on youtube...Your playing is inspiring me so much!!!I wish you all the best...Cheers from Greece!!!
So Bea, words can't describe how I feel about this album the first time I heard Illumo I almost started to cry, the music is just so beautiful, the power of you guys makes me think: How can a trio have such a massive sound? You guys are amazing. And especially you, Rabea, (as I am learning to play guitar) continue to inspire me everyday. You are amazing! Keep doing what you do because your music means the world to me!
Wow thank you so much man. I really mean that. To consider that this music makes you feel that way is amazing so dude, but hug from me and the guys :-)
1 year on, this EP has become one of my favorite records ....great work, You have a unique sound, so many Djent bands sound the same, and whilst you show Djent tendancies (Djentancies? :D), which I like, you have a unique take on it,. I really dig how you work in "themes" , you develop each one brilliantly, and the sounds used, guitar , bass and drums...are great. This gets serious playtime for me and holds its own against some truly great records from some mammoths of heavy music, great musician ship and songwriting guys...respect keep it up
Bea this is so amazing. You inspire me every day to be a better guitarist and musician. Thank you so much for your dedication to all of your followers!
Rabea is very picky about midrange, I seem to remember him saying he balances it with the gain so he can get a heavy sound with can be heard but with as little compression as possible.
5 лет назад+2
Fancy FA The problem if you have that much midrange is it becomes ear piercing to listen to and your palm mutes (which should be bottom end heavy) sound incredibly weak, as they kinda are on this record. A heavy guitar tone most definitely includes a lot of bottom end. Listen to basically any modern well produced metal album, from gojira's the way of all flesh to meshuggah to even and justice for all...
It's not my favourite style of rock to begin with, but I have to say "Infantile" and "phoneme" are so awesome. I liked Chasm and Chalk Teeth a lot too. keep up with the good work, that's getting better and better.
You got me into modern guitar music again Rabea, i have this album and Karnivool's Themata on repeat for the last week. Thanks for that! Also, is there chance there will be another Toska album?
You know I'm mad at myself for not checking this out earlier I've just finished watching the progress it took to make the ep and this is my first listen and I'm absolutely blown away, I've never heard anything as fucking awesome as this, toska has definitely earned a place in my all time favourites list, this is absolutely stunning and I cannot wait for what toska has to offer in the future :)
I was surprised to actually like this. Even though I play electric guitar I am not into metal music. This was a less heavy, slower and sometimes ambient style though, which I actually found pleasing to listen to.
Yo Rabea! I've been listening to the Toska EP for close to 2 days now on Spotify. And I got to say, I LOVE IT! I especially like the way each song is part of a whole (the EP). If you add a singer it would've even been better! I have a question though, How did you write this style of music. it's pretty complex to me. Can you maybe do a video where you explain the writing process of this EP and Toska in general? I hope that you guys get a very good singer, and I would like you guys to know that you've just been upgraded to one of my favorite bands See ya later -Hendriks PS: Greetings from the Netherlands
+Siem Hendriks I disagree, doesn't need vocals. They created the album for the sake of expressing themselves through their instruments alone. Not hating here, just my opinion.
Listening to chasm, phoneme, and then illumo all in a row makes me feel good. I love it when the songs actually make sense together. That's what an album is supposed to be, right?
As an addendum to my previous comment, I've now been listening to this solidly on repeat since Monday. Without stopping... and damn it the more I listing the better and better it's getting. The level of detail is ridiculous. It's like one of those hyper complex movies where every time you watch it you seem something different. I keep finding new favourite bits... a phrase, a little run, a chord and little piece of technique a pattern... TOSKA, this is a work of exceptional quality. Please release something else soon so I can at least have two eps in my play list that I actually listen to rather than just this one. It's even stopped me listen to Tool...
+Richard Harrold no this is very much progressive, the extensive sections of a song, the complexity of the riffs, its on the progrock, leaning towards progmetal side
Bea, just curious how this was mixed and who mixed it (sounds like Dave's drum mixing style on the original version of Aeromancy)? Sounds huge! Have been awaiting this release for weeks, about halfway through my first listen. So far it's everything I had hoped it would be. Great job, fellas.
I thought I'd wait a little while to see what the general consensus was over this music.
I'm so so happy and proud to see everyone enjoying this music so much, it really does mean the world!
+Rabea Massaad It's killer man I love everything you put out
+Rabea Massaad rabea i know this is a weird request but can you please please please please please do a cover of glass by incubus because i saw your sounds like video of incubus and you played glass in between and you sounded so amazing and i can imagine you nailing it bit by bit and i remember you doing extreme covers and you sounded so on point. +Rabea Massaad Are these real drums, or midi stuff? Fuckin' killer stuff, sounds delicious! Cheers
I just want to say thank you so much to everyone who has streamed, bought, shared, liked, commented on or generally shared their good vibes for our music. It means a huge amount to all of us!
I can't get enough of it!
+Ben Minal I love it how the drums really cut through the mix, such an amazing EP!
+Ben Minal Give me your groove!
+Ben Minal Top grooves!
Ben Minal that bell in Infantile is so perfect. You are an amazing drummer!
To record the guitars for this record i used:
Chapman Guitars
Victory VX Kraken
Marshall JVM 410H
Peavey 5150 MKI
TwoNotes Torpedo Live
My Pedal Board:
GigRig G2
Strymon Timeline/Bigsky/Mobius
EHX POG
Buffalo FX Germanium Fuzz
Coopersonic Germaniac

+Rabea Massaad No 5150 or JVM? Well, obviously not, but I mean any reason, or the Kraken just sounding like enough of a beast?
Love this man, great song writing and huge tone! I will seriously contribute to the number of views this video gets, and I really appreciate you putting it up!
+Richard Mason yeah man, i used the 5150 and jam, just corrected it to say so, good eyes!
+Rabea Massed Haha. Nice man. I remember you saying you used the JVM on one side, Kraken on the other and the 5150 as the thickener.

28:37 heaviest riff of the entire record, massive as fuck
I love how the album when played in succession like this is like one giant prog song.
I think llumo is the most majestic thing i've ever heard in my entire life.
Saaaaame.
+00000 00000 same
Just discovered. SAME.
i still come back to this album everyday, and everyday it gives me the same great impact.
damn...didn't know jesus was into progressive metal
Man. This whole EP is still so good after 5 years. It's mindblowing to me.
My favorite instrumental album.
8 years on....this is still mint
I really like the drum sounds on this, really roomy with none of that over compressed in your face crap..
I really admire this work. One can really tell this is just music for the sake of music. Instead of non-stop pointless shred and endless muddy bass tones; you make more of a progressive style of metal. It really does just exude creativity.

+Luke Saunders Thanks so much man, really appreicate your message!
The epic outro from Toto (Africa) heavy metal cover brought me here.
Like what I found!
Not a thousand words can describe what this is.. it's not music.. it's not just playing some chords and beats together..
It tells a story. Just from the first note i closed my eyes and imagined all the shit, that happened in my life. Uh, y-you too man...
that tone is is got some serious balls!
would be so sick to get live studio play through of each song. just to see what goes into this music for us who cant see you live. plus seeing Dave rock the fuck out
watch their DVD ode to the author live it shows them playing songs as a live studio recording x
I was never really into purely instrumental music but this is amazing
I think I'm addicted to this.
love the fact it's kinda of an concept album with a certain Motive going throu the whole album
man thats the coolest combining of sounds that i have heard for the last 2 years
Toska will be amongst the very few to carry on with the genuinely good sounding metal music … Long Live ...
The whole ep is amazing. My favorite track is Illumo.
I appreciate the variation and dynamic light/shade - so much of Metal sensibility is just foot-to-the -floor heavy so yes interesting!
randomly came across this album clicking random yt racomandations. great atmosphere, seems like going 400 km/h out in the desert with each instrument trying to overtake me, then slowing down, going back full speed, a meteor falling down in front of me but dodging it with a sincopated riff. sounds confusing but this is great musicianship and i always try to express the feeling i get from something i listen to. i wish you guys the best of luck. make more. 5/5

Really dig the style man !
Weird seeing you here. Big fan! chhhheaah!
bakerXderek dude i see you everywhere i love it im subcribed btw
Rabea, I JUST discovered this. And I'm ABSOLUTELY blown away. I'm serious. I've not been floored this hard by an album since Opeth's Deliverance/Damnation double album I bought six years ago. Holy. Fucking. Shit. Wow.
Cheers, man.
Legion216 haha cheers dude, I glad you like it!
This is the level of gorgeous eargasmic prog jams I've missed and craved since Dream Theater's "Train of Thought" a decade ago.
Thank you....
I don't regret coming here from Frog Leap Studios. This stuff is amazing!
I did the same
I love the range of emotion on this album. From soaring heights to the quiet passages. it all just evokes so much thought and feeling. Absolutely brilliant musicianship, too. Still trying to wrap my brain around all the crazy off timing stuff and intricate riffs. I haven't really been listening to any other albums but this, at the moment. The fact that the guitars were tracked through a loadbox for this blows my tiny mind. You guys need bigger stages, don't get too busy for Toska :)
This is one of those stories that begin with a "joint". Feel free to read.

Listening to this for like the millionth time doesn't make it any less amazing!
This has to be the greatest EP ever
Bea this is absolute crazy, all the songs seems classical music with modern instruments, stunning atmospheres. That's an'immense EP thank you for write and share this music and keep it up !

This comment is on point. I feel the same. Supernatural musicianship in there.
This is the best ep i have ever heard!!!! No mercy for dislikers!!!
I know this won't sound like a compliment at first, but hear me out. This music put my 1 year old son to sleep. See, doesn't sound very nice does it?

I absolutely love this album. I wasn't 100% when I first heard it, but the album builds to the end and after a full listen I realized how amazing it is. Favorite songs: Infantile and Illumo.
I love that Phoneme sounds like the American Beauty soundtrack, the whole EP is just full of emotion
yes it does..
Guys, this EP is amazing. Brilliant, epic, sensitive. So many colors. Pure sound. Just loving it. Please do never stop.
Sound into left ear..... brains out of right ear..... MIND BLOWN!
This album Is extremely underrated... Its amazing I cant stop listening to it, There are parts to this that are musical masterpieces. You guys have something special here thats for sure. I cant wait for more!
There's no other band like Toska. Outstanding brains you three
Excellent! Love it. So good not to have any singers getting in the way and spoiling it! (No offence to Rob..Dorje is brilliant!)
After 3 months of this I wish you guys had a synth/vst/keyboard guy. Its crazy how much ambient you can add to this, it would totally make this feel much more moody which is the sickest part of instrumental music.
I hear a big tool influence. I love it guys! you guys snapped
Best instrumental album I have heard in a long time. Toska and Dorje are of my top 5 favorite list of bands. I think ye make some exeptional music. I cant stop listening to it. ;) ;)
I'm not really a fan of Prog Metal but I actually really enjoyed this EP. 1st song was awesome
Every time I think I'm going to wear this album out, it just gets better.
Awsome ep mate!!!Thanks for sharing it with us here on youtube...Your playing is inspiring me so much!!!I wish you all the best...Cheers from Greece!!!
+Spyros Kakalis thanks for listening man! Much appreciated :-)
Phoneme is very "American Beauty" at the beginning I love it! Then it goes to a 90's vibe. Love this group!
So Bea,

Seriously incredible EP, loved every second of it. Been on repeat since yesterday morning.
One take on Infantile ladies and gents ... Incredible scenes!
Leeds, April 2nd 2016 - COME AT ME BRO!!!
Bea this is so amazing. You inspire me every day to be a better guitarist and musician. Thank you so much for your dedication to all of your followers!
I really wished that there would be more songs like Illumo-s beginning and ending, those parts are just amazing.
Already listened to it a good 6 times, I fucking love it man
This is exactly the kind of music I listen to when I study. Gets me hyped up but somehow even more focused on what I'm doing. Unreal!
Sounds awesome man. I love this kind of music for the guitar, but have no affinity for Cookie Monster vocals or screamo whatsoever. Well done lads!
This is just amazing. It's like I left the earth and its Troubles for 33:55 minutes. Thanks for playing... Awesome stuff!
For anyone thinking that heavy guitar tones come from the bottom end. You're wrong. Just listen to 23:42
That's practically all mid-range.
Fancy FA THANK YOU! And always remember that your bass player has a purpose!
Rabea is very picky about midrange, I seem to remember him saying he balances it with the gain so he can get a heavy sound with can be heard but with as little compression as possible.

Greetings from Costa Rica!

Illumo is my personal favourite, it's just amazing.
3:52 ayy this is groovy
4:08 :O *explosion*
@12:50 this part, this part is killer ambient. i dig it.
Yo Rabea!
I've been listening to the Toska EP for close to 2 days now on Spotify. And I got to say, I LOVE IT!

PS: Greetings from the Netherlands
Nah a singer would ruin it
+Siem Hendriks I disagree, doesn't need vocals. They created the album for the sake of expressing themselves through their instruments alone. Not hating here, just my opinion.
Listening to chasm, phoneme, and then illumo all in a row makes me feel good. I love it when the songs actually make sense together. That's what an album is supposed to be, right?
illumo is a killer track /,,/ very very decent ep indeed
The section that starts 19:30 wow !! I mean this is all great but the chord progression in this part, feel that in my soul.
Please don't get a vocalist
Dan Parks Im late, but they got one...but then they're called "Dorje" ;)
Idk, just imagine Maynard sprinkling a lyric or two throughout this work of art....
Still to find a Maynards bad song
nah
I agree.
Rob's probably going to come here and slap me.
This is better than Dorje.
I honestly think that bea is a better guitarist too lol
@@user-bu3mb7gk3e I feel he is much more versatile, but both are quite good.
This might be my favorite instrumental metal album. The style and writing of it is just exactly what I've really been looking for out of an album.
killer guys funkn awesome!!!!!
Just discovered this EP, it is devastatingly beautiful. The stuff that happens at the end of Illumo has me in tears.
Wow!! This takes me back to the days when hard rock/alternative was actually done artfully! Awesome instrumental! \|/
THIS WAS PURE HARD ROCK EAR CANDY!!! BRILLIANT MUSIC!
Musically genius. Please tell me you're releasing physical copies!
Dat riff in Chalk Teeth at 2:20 is definitely serious sh*t
Cheers from Ukraine guys!
progressive rock
Lol
+Richard Harrold no this is very much progressive, the extensive sections of a song, the complexity of the riffs, its on the progrock, leaning towards progmetal side
+Pelle Rigter Yea, sounds Prog Metal to me.
to me its prog with rock, metal, ambient djenty some almost lo fi moments, great sounding recording, and most importantly it fucking rocks!!!
Basically it's good shit. Very, very good shit
Just bougth it and download it from Bandcamp. This is the best music I´ve listened this year so far.
this must be my birthday present :D
+banaantjexx164 Gefeliciteerd!
Phoneme is one of my favorite songs ever.
I would like to reffer one handy advice for all students. This is the perfect study music!!!
It's good to know that instrumental music is not dead! But what's amazing is that this kind of band reminds us how amazing music can be!!!
Hey man, we both engineered, mixed and mastered this record, Along with Dorje also. We like to work as a pair when it's our own music
Super good new sttyle music
This is a whole other level entirely above Dorje....wow... Work of art!!!!!! Was so excited to hear Mr. Alan Watt's voice on this record!!!
DAVE!
DAVE!
Dave.
DAVE!
DAVE!
+Michael Daniel Schutte Dave.
I've listened to this countless times now, but I'll never get over these grooves man!
At 13:30 that 3-note melody is from a song of american beauty, right? It sure as hell sounds like it.
No it's not. I've never seen that film. It's heavily inspired by Thomas Newman's work. I love film music
+Rabea Massaad Remind me House MD soundtrack hahahaha
Awesome job Bea! Greetings from Brasil!
+Hiouji I can see what you mean mate, everyone should watch that film.....
+Rabea Massaad oh well. if you ever decide to watch it, you probably would see, what i mean tho
That chord progression in 'Chasm' at 7:08 is just amazing!!!! Really digging the tunes, please play a gig in East Anglia :D
