What kind of sorcery is this? What did you guys do? This came up as a recommendation out of nowhere for me. This is the best surprise I've had in a very long time! Thank you for creating this!
Really, that's what I was going to say when I scrolled down to comment! By some chance I clicked on this on my home page. Never heard about them before, but I've been listening to Leprous so I guess the recommendation is based on that? If any of you haven't heard Leprous. Listen to Coal (the full album). Maybe a bit more heavy/progressive than this, but still. One of my brother's greatest finds.
Ok, i NEED to say this.... This is BY FAR the best "random" music i have EVER heard in the last what? 3 or 4 years? I was listening to Haken's Affinity album and this just came in the sequence. I'm SO HAPPY that youtube gave me this. Please, DON'T YOU GUYS EVER stop making music. This is a FUCKING MASTERPIECE 12/10. Eargasms AT FULL POWER!!! P.S.: The track "Crater" is just OUT OF THIS WORLD. GEEEEEZZZZZ
This album doesn't age, it's as breathtaking today as it was when I stumbled upon it roughly 4 years ago. Everyone associated with this, you're all legends!
I absolutely agree; I have heard this whole album 100x over and over. However, I would LOVE to get a new album. I feel that we are overdue. I am not ungrateful for the masterpiece that we have already been gifted. But I would love to experience a continuation of this glory.
+macaron3141592653 There is no other way we could have done it! I'm glad you appreciate this. Jamie spent 4 years orchestrating this himself, starting it at Yale university where he was honing his craft. We are all so proud of Jamie for creating this. We care about having "life" in our music and by collaborating with other musicians instead of midi, we can gain more of that life in a timeless way.
7 years have passed since the day this fantastic album was published. And this album is still as amazing as the first time I heard it. Always giving me a lot of shivers, and a high sound quality. I'm looking forward to the release of the new album... Thank you very much for the effort, time and affection that you had to show this work of art to the world.
to all earthside members I must say this is one hell of a masterpiece. I've been waiting for this level of music for sometime and you definitely delivered!! good job you guys!!👍
The hole left because they are still on hiatus? Or because you were disappointed with their later releases? Two very different holes. Credit to this band, but that PT hole can be filled by Steven Wilsons solo work, I promise. ;) I almost am completely at peace with their 6 years of inactivity. PT was never this hard. Agree. Also listen to TRANSATLANTIC. It is a supergroup made of several dudes from DT, PT, Marrillion etc... AMAZING. bUT i STILL love this band SOOOOOO much. Glad I saw them live a few weeks ago. Look for my Videos on YT. The sound sucks due to the venue but they are amazing
Probably the best progressive metal album I've ever heard. Still goes hard even 6 years ago when I heard it. I came as a sevendust fan because Lajon was in mob mentality but grew to appreciate the other songs on this album. What a cinematic journey this record is.
Martin Karas Like Gojira or Tool? Dark Prog Metal? I got you! Try The Ocean. I would start with the albums Heliocentric, and Anthropocentric. Also, you might like Karnivool. The Contortionist is a deathcore prog band...one of my favorite bands. And if you havnt already, try Tesseract, and Skyharbor.
@@EarthsideBand ok, i'm asking myself how i say this. you guys opened a new door for all of us and we are loving it. the new will never wear off of this. i'm a musician and i can't even pull myself away from your music so you know what that means " i have to learn it ". you have the stuff floyd and zepplin are made of and please never stop because if you do you will be denying a whole world of your talent !!! rock on my brothers, ROCK-ON!!!!

Someone sent me the link to this in 2016 in an attempt to rekindle my waning interest in metal. I bookmarked it and slept on it. Took a listen today and discovered that not only is it fantastically melodic and diverse, but parts of it were produced in my hometown. The regret is real. I haven't enjoyed a new metal band this much since my first listen to "Still Life" decades ago.
I've let RUclips autoplay albums for hours, but fuck, 8 minutes into this one I get out of bed to see who is tickling my brain. Fucking awesome. Love & respect.
Omigosh this is amazing. I discovered this while working on a college paper of all things and I'd be lying if I said it didn't help me focus. Great fucking music, guys.
I found this back in high-school, when it came out. Listening to it again after a couple years, and I'm still blown away. This is still a masterpiece 5 years later. And will be forever. The fact that you guys are so underrated blows my mind
When you type "Dream Theater" to listen a bit of prog metal from your childhood/adolescence from the first 2000's decade, and find something better by accident. This blew my mind!
Very sick album I stumbled across the RUclips suggestions while trying to find some music to listen to while raiding in WoW. Sharing with my other prog nerds.
Stumbled across this album about an hour ago, it is still paused at 12:52 as I am writing this. This is absolutely stellar! Why nobody has pointed me in this direction before baffles me. It is paused because I went over the the Earthside website and ordered the album, Now I am contemplating whether or not to continue listening or wait for the physical copy and have that first listen experience the old fashioned way, while checking out the booklet.
So, let me see if I understand correctly. You create a unique genius top notch production quality album that feels like a real life experience, with music that can be felt with every sense... and then come and share it freely with us just like that? ........You guys are absolute LEGENDS.
I just want to say I appreciate this music and all the effort that was put into it. I've been listening to this every day since I found the album. The singers that were chosen, the arrangements, the notation, the tones, the soundscapes, the recording, the mix, this whole album is so well produced. I have great and deep gratitude for the respect you guys have for music. I feel like it's very hard to find music these days that is so well cared for that it creates a huge amount of emotion and energy. P.S. I love the term "Cinematic Rock" totally on point with that.
Not necessarily music wise, but listening to this album for the first time today had me feeling the same as the first time I listened to VOLA's Witness album the first time. Greatness from front to back.
I just found this by accident on one of my "lets check out albums and bands I've never heard, related to other things I like" sprees. FUCK. ME. THIS. IS. AMAZING!
Alright. It better be good. The people at my favorite TOOL band group sent me. I'm a natural talent drummer. Well here I an enjoying it already! Day~Yum!
+DannyStatuz I think this album took something like 6 years to make, what with the scattered musicians all over the globe. It might be another while. Although, I hope not that long!
These guys should definitely make another album. This is a great album overall. Really like their sound. Very clean and smooth, but chunky at times as well. Love it.
+Bill Hicks I was suggesting music. perhaps you can still find one thing you like without being a pompous douche? no one cares if you're bored. if you can't even explain yourself in the simplest form. what good are you? at least have the balls to develope criticism with reasoning. I'm bored, is a fucking waste of your time.
I'd love to get the FLAC files for this album. It is so well mixed and mastered . . its a treat to be able to discern what each player is playing. Not to mention, this is such a great album. It is so well thought out and has a great feel to it . . hooked on this for days now.
I was advised to seek this out by someone who knew i liked progressive music, and i'm so glad I did. This is one of the most impressive debuts i've ever heard. The level of maturity in the songwriting is the thing that strikes me the most. There are no wrong turns. I can't wait for whatever you guys do next.
Hi guys, after listening to this album a couple times already, I'm stunned and wondering how the hell can you make something like this come to life. Seriously though, what is your songwriting process?
Hey! Thanks very much for the kind words. The songwriting process is mostly a mix of jamming together organically in practice (these tend to more often become the instrumental songs, although the title track is an exception), and writing independently (for instance Jamie wrote "Mob Mentality," Ben wrote "Crater," and Frank wrote "Contemplation of the Beautiful." That's the basic idea, but the process is unique in many ways to the demands of any given song. If you're interested, feel free to check out the numerous song-spotlight videos we made on the creation and recording of each track. You can find them all on this channel. Cheers! Earthside
same thing here, if I believe their FB page, they had a lot of traffic these last few days. Could it be that they are making their breakthrough? It's all I wish them ! :)
Hi can anyone help me out please? Unfortunately, I can't find this album in a form that I can administer intravenously. Can I attach a cannula straight from the PC to stream it directly into my body, or does it need to be diluted first so I don't overdose? Also, does it have any permanent effects on the brain? My friend said after he tried it, it was so strong it made him go insane and then cured him. Is this true or just a myth? Please help.
Umm idk I've heard some stories on how people have tried IV but it never ended well. It's always best to dilute it until you build a tolerance (this ain't no Dream Theater s***) but everyone is different. About the going insane part: most likely suffering a moderate episode of mania (a period of great excitement, euphoria, delusions, and overactivity) which resolves over time. This is just from speculation and personal experience with Earthside.
James Cornett You should try it man. Got an audio output cable grafted into my brain. Turned up the volume on this, and became a God. 10/10 would reach posthuman transcendence again.
let me know if you need it. I can burn you a copy. Saw them live a few weeks ago. Amazing. Look for my videos. The venue sucked. Just need your address and I'll send you a copy. Yes the album is out on CD
Hey dude! Thanks very much for the kind words! The CD and vinyl are available through our website below and you can snag an FLAC download through our bandcamp right here: earthside.bandcamp.com/album/a-dream-in-static Happy listening :)
This is so ground breaking I thought the album was pretty recent. I can hardly remember reading the name of the band before today. RUclips sucks at recommending music according to the things I indicate I like
+huvostyle I'm sorry, but you're severely uneducated. all music more or less sounds like some form of either European classical, South American, Asian, or African music, or else a combination. the industry has had almost no hand in how music sounds, just what sounds get popular. hardcore punk and extreme metal come from punk rock and heavy metal, come from dub and hard rock, from reggae and rock n roll, from ska, rnb and blues, from soul and jazz, from gospel, swing and big band, from African and neoclassical, and so forth. and all of it is one and the same; music. just because this ambient prog metal band has a symphony orchestra on tracks doesn't mean all forms of rock sound like classical music. aggressive and angry music has been around since classical times. when Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis started making music, it was the most aggressive and abrasive sounding stuff at the time. music has only ever evolved, and continues to daily. but modern (80s to now) punk and metal are not the first types of music to embrace dissonant or discordant sounds. to insinuate that these genuine movements in musical history were fabricated by "the industry" is incredibly ignorant. even awful overproduction and autotune were not invented by the industry, they were just little musical trends that happened to get big and everyone started doing them. the industry helped today's easy-to-make pop music get popular, but they've had this formula since before the Beatles. ever since big record labels were stealing black artists' music and repurposing it for a white audience they've been dumbing down music and packaging it into a nice little sellable box. it has also been breeding artists that naturally do this, even unknowingly and before they are part of a label or 'the industry,' just because that's the way it's been for so long. I suggest a bit of research before making such sweeping, uninformed statements. TL;DR - chiggity check yoself before ya wreck yoself
Im open to learn everything, and i appreciate your information. What you say make really sense, i just don't study this... Here in BR we don't have this education, everything i know i learn by my count . Thnaks man!
kakashi66132 You don't have to know every bit of music history to appreciate a song/album, some people just like things for what they and you don't get to be a critic of others for taking that approach and even though its different to yours

The whole album is a masterpiece, but everytime i hear Crater i really feel like this is one of the best songs ever created by humanity.
And its incredible how crater being good at it is, it becomes even better in the album, one of the better experiences with music in my life

So please join the Tesseract Polaris tour
for triple pleasure {Contortionist}.
By the way Magnificent Album.
I just found this by accident on one of my "lets check out albums and bands I've never heard, related to other things I like" sprees. FUCK. ME. THIS. IS. AMAZING!
Devin Townsend brought me here. Lajon Witherspoon piqued my interest. The incredible songs earned my love.
I thought I heard Lajon's voice.
Almost a year later, and I'm still listening and loving this masterpiece as the first day.
I think today too. I just discover them
Alright. It better be good. The people at my favorite TOOL band group sent me. I'm a natural talent drummer. Well here I an enjoying it already! Day~Yum!
A whole year. Wow that's a long time...
2021
I'm sitting here at work listening to this for the first time and I'm literally frozen in my seat with tears in my eyes. Absolutely wonderful.
i shutdown everything .just to be alone in darkened room with this amazing undefined music !!! Absolutely wonderful.
iM SURE YOUR BOSS WOULD BE GRATEFULL
@Marissa I am doing the same .. Discovered their music at work today.. And loving them
Just had to buy this. So, so good. Keep at it guys, we all really appreciate the effort.
that intro... it breaks my brain every time man!! and its get stronger the more i listened it.... never heard such a deep album....
so...when is your next album coming out?.... NEED MOAR
+DannyStatuz It took them several years to produce this i think you must be patient, unfortunately!
+DannyStatuz I think this album took something like 6 years to make, what with the scattered musicians all over the globe. It might be another while. Although, I hope not that long!
Apparently I listed to this before 7 years ago.
I just got it in RUclips recommendations again and was COMPLETELY blown away again.
Amazing.
welcome .. . . . . . . . . . . .
. . . . . . . . we've been waiting for you.
Sorry.. . . . .
I’ve kept you waiting.
These guys should definitely make another album. This is a great album overall. Really like their sound. Very clean and smooth, but chunky at times as well. Love it.
46 seconds in and Im sold. This is absolutely wonderful, hope you guys tour through NC.
3 minutes in and i'm bored.
+Bill Hicks maybe complex audio isn't for you.
try Justin Berber or any new age trending tracks, because you won't find much repetition here.
( . Y . )
lol, why don't you try not to be a self righteous douchebag, music is completely subjective.
Thank you Hasan! If you go to our bandcamp, you can purchase the album in FLAC! earthside.bandcamp.com/
2022 still rocking!
One of those beautiful albums you listen to from start to finish
Cheers!
Earthside
I will definetely check them out, thank you!
this is masterpice!

just discovered this band, it's totally awesome ! Love the contribution of the orchestra
Can't imagine the work behind all this
wow the best thing youtube has done for me in a while was recommend this video!! THANKS RUclips!!!
same thing here, if I believe their FB page, they had a lot of traffic these last few days. Could it be that they are making their breakthrough? It's all I wish them ! :)
I think RUclips is recommending this album to people listening to the new Gojira. I guess that helps a lot ^^
Rishloo for me
Very nice album!
Daniel Tompkins is a beast!
So The great cold distance really has a great influence in modern metal I guess 😉
In reference to Katatonia?
Yes, love me some Katatonia.
KATATONIA!
Absolutely yeah man!
Love katatonia
This is magical. It's almost like a dream.
Wow loving this record the high notes in the beautiful A Dream in Static just amazing
Terrific album. It would be great to have the lyrics of the songs :)
Hey! If you go to our bandcamp earthside.bandcamp.com/ and click on an individual song, there should be the lyrics there!
Thanks!
It really is!
I came here from... I don't remember, because this just blew my mind!
A Cat Huh? I have never heard of such a thing.
James Cornett You should try it man. Got an audio output cable grafted into my brain. Turned up the volume on this, and became a God. 10/10 would reach posthuman transcendence again.
Who needs hard catnip when you have Earthside?
You are a cat. How are you able to use a computer? Better yet. How are you able to comprehend and type in English? I have so many questions.
Imagine one of these songs featuring Einar Sølberg or Claudio Sanchez. Man, that would be wicked.
Make that happen Earthside!
Anyone else listen to mob mentality like 100 times?
Earthside are awesome.
Try Long Distance Calling "the flood inside"
You will thank me 😊
Any chance this album will come out in CD form? Some of us aren't fancy yet, with the new-fangled technologies.

Happy listening :)
Excellent work guys, Shared.
I came from Seventh Wonder (and technically, my mom) and this is majestic
This whole album is UNBELIEVABLE. Incredible melodies and musicianship ✊🏼
This is so ground breaking I thought the album was pretty recent. I can hardly remember reading the name of the band before today. RUclips sucks at recommending music according to the things I indicate I like
Any band that tours with leprous is not going to be shit thats for sure!
Fuck the singer sure does remind me of the transience singer... Anyone else get that vibe?
100% grass fed Organic METAL poetic
This is simply mind blowing! What a masterpiece.
I always loved Ashe's voice more with Tesseract's music, but I truly respect Daniel's talent. The dude has incredible range and overall power.
Wow..... woooow! ...Perfect👍
This is beyond human abilities to make such a masterpiece!!
The best musical exprience i've ever had in my life...
First time I hear about this band, and Naïve. Unlike so much of rock music, this is not music full of violence. I can listen to it while I am writing.
I agree. Really rock music sounds like classical music. The rest: only music industry.
let rage consume you
+huvostyle I'm sorry, but you're severely uneducated. all music more or less sounds like some form of either European classical, South American, Asian, or African music, or else a combination. the industry has had almost no hand in how music sounds, just what sounds get popular.
hardcore punk and extreme metal come from punk rock and heavy metal, come from
dub and hard rock, from reggae and rock n roll, from ska, rnb and blues, from soul and jazz, from gospel, swing and big band, from African and neoclassical, and so forth. and all of it is one and the same; music. just because this ambient prog metal band has a symphony orchestra on tracks doesn't mean all forms of rock sound like classical music.
aggressive and angry music has been around since classical times. when Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis started making music, it was the most aggressive and abrasive sounding stuff at the time. music has only ever evolved, and continues to daily. but modern (80s to now) punk and metal are not the first types of music to embrace dissonant or discordant sounds. to insinuate that these genuine movements in musical history were fabricated by "the industry" is incredibly ignorant. even awful overproduction and autotune were not invented by the industry, they were just little musical trends that happened to get big and everyone started doing them. the industry helped today's easy-to-make pop music get popular, but they've had this formula since before the Beatles. ever since big record labels were stealing black artists' music and repurposing it for a white audience they've been dumbing down music and packaging it into a nice little sellable box. it has also been breeding artists that naturally do this, even unknowingly and before they are part of a label or 'the industry,' just because that's the way it's been for so long.
BRAVO.
Pain of Salvation and Periphery have made a child!
What a nice surprise! I'm also glad that Lajon is involved \m/
Incredible album. Reminds me so much of Tesseract, but a bit lighter.
