My favorite video to find whenever I need music at work. Thank you for putting out something very emotional and incredibly entertaining. Moreover, huge respect for sharing this on RUclips. The thumbnail of this video is how I discovered you for the first time. You are my new guitar hero, man. Can't wait to hear the new contents and also to own one of your Diamond Series! Cheers from Anaheim, California.
Dude, this album has been on repeat in my car and in my head for weeks now. I love this. That seven step build-up in Impossible Things is one of my favorite things ever, right up there with Drive In, Drive Out by DMB. Your band kicks serious ass and I can't wait for more awesome melodies to get stuck in my head mounted hard drive.

Your work is fantastic Nick, I really enjoy listening to you play! Thanks for all the massive effort that you have put into this awesome production. Heading over to purchase this....
I was listening Kiko Loureiro Theory Of Mind and when I Finished the album, in a minute your album started to play here in my device. I still not believe what I´m hearing. What a sound! The way you work with the open chords and close and the closure you give to the music is Insane. I didn´t expect that! Cogratulations for this amazing Album! Cheers from Brazil!
Dude, I just ordered your signed CD after already listening to your album more than twenty times for free for the past two weeks, as a matter of fact, I'm listening to it as I write this reply. Your stuff is so good, I started to feel guilty for not paying for it. When I scrape up some more dough I going to buy the other three and anything you record in the future. I haven't listened to an instrumental record this much since Yngwie's first album, Rising Force in 84, and yes I'm over fifty and have been trying to learn how to play the guitar off and on for over 30 years. Because of you, I've started playing again with more seriousness. My dream of one day becoming a rock star has long since past, but that's OK I don't care about that stuff anymore I have a day job, I only care about the art of guitar, and what you do is pure art. There are a lot of good players out there, but few write good music like you. You don't over play with tricks and technic. You play just enough and not too much, you play the guitar for the music, you don't write music for the guitar. So many players (I won't mention names and some are older than me) don't seem to know the difference, but you do and to know this so early in your career is amazing, I can't wait to hear what you record next.
I cannot believe the greatness of this album, every single song of this masterpiece is a masterclass about how to express yourself with an electri guitar, how to build a stunning hook/lick, help it to grow at every bar in the song, creating a crescendo to a climax, its unbelievable. thanks Nick, one of my lifetime albums.
Discovered this album two days ago. I have to say, this features some of the best guitar work I've ever listened to. I love the various influences and nuances in his playing. The guitar tone is unbelievable, with a lot of excellent tension/resolution ideas. Most importantly, emotion is present throughout the entire album. It's such an inspiring piece of art.
Anyone still loving this in late 2021? Nick is one of the best melodic and dynamic players. Top notch thematic songwriting on this record. Personal favorite guitar record since Surfing With the Alien.
Oh yes, I’m still listening to it every chance I get. Surfing with the Alien and Remarkably Human are my two favorite of all time. The more I listen to this album the more I’m certain it takes 1st place among my favorites.
This is a timeless album. Moving, cinematic songs, excellent production quality, and outstanding guitar tone. Melodic lines that stick in your head. And unlike a lot of virtuosos, Nick doesn't get lost trying to show off his chops, though he has them. Shreddy guitar is cool, but you can't express much emotion playing as many notes as possible. That's why we love songs and why we bond with them--because they evoke our emotions.
@@nickjohnstonmusic IMO, Very true, Some will say that it is all subjective, and it is. But I think most emotions are provoked through Gilmour/Johnston type phrasing. Other people will say their emotions are provoked through shredding. The beauty of music is the interpretation through expressing individuality and being able to feel how you feel through just that.,

It’s Spring 2022 and I still find myself returning to this amazing work; it remains creative, powerful, and melodic. Thanks Nick for continuing to inspire us with your music.
This is why I love youtube.....It's 2am,Im sitting here getting ready to call it a night.I gaze down my menu of choices and between another Nibiru vid and Buckethead I saw this and thought what the hell, and I clicked on it..........I feel like I found a diamond.what an incredible piece of work! Its like my ears can hear what beautiful looks like. This music feels comfortable while it takes you on these little trips that seem familiar but not cliche ever at all.Amazing mix as well, every instrument sounds rich.I know who Nick Johnston is now!Great Job this music is beautiful.
The cover art grabbed me. Undead spaceman with a guitar...how can anyone not be 'have to check that out?' Awesome art all round from music to cover art. ;)
Just like the old days. I liked the cover art. I randomly gave this a good listen. Great imagination. Beautiful production. Always am attracted to competent player's who have songwriting skills, who can really see their vision through. I'm going to get this CD. This is when the Internet is at it's finest. When you find real people, living their true dreams in life. Peace.
Can’t stop listening,,,,,,must....press....stop... Over and over....ALL OF IT- like meandering thru a journey of stories.....most patient guitarist ever. Bravo Nick
Its one thing to make some truly inspiring pieces of instrumental guitar music., but to make an entire album that just flows across genres, moods, modes , scales and still fits together and stands the test of time. Damn Nick, this is your DSOTM. Thank you for the music.
This is one of my favourite albums to show people if I'm introducing them to progressive music. It's beautifully melodic and approachable while having loads of guitar-shreddy melt-your-face-off chops. Everything sounds so emotionally rich and lyrical. Plus Gavin Harrison is one of my favourite drummers and he absolutely kills it on this record!
Nick Johnson as a guitarist is similar to a master photographer taking pictures of puppies for everyone to enjoy, he could easily make music for the few but instead puts things together that most people can enjoy.
Glad there continues to be imaginative guitarists who place tasteful lead work within the context of a good song with a melody instead of just non-stop mechanical shredding! Thanks Nick!
Nick, you love that flat five chord change! Like B major to F major. or Em to Bb major. It's more like a movie soundtrack with legitimate guitar added. Nice stuff!
This is a phenomenal recording, I will buy this on amazon and recommend it to musicians who value real music, so you get some tiny fraction of the money you deserve for this.. It literally made me love instrumental fusion again, it also makes me feel like my guitar chops are pure shite and I should burn barrel all my guitars and amps... It's like listening to the four seasons for the first time only fusion and rock.. just stellar compositions and playing all around by the whole band.
Hey Nick Johnston, saw you in Melbourne without having ever heard you before. Usually I struggle to connect with a live performance that I am unfamiliar with but this performance was something uniquely engaging, because as a result of seeing you I went into this album feeling as though I knew half the songs already. This album is something truly remarkable. It was incredibly motivating and relaxing music for working on programming projects recently, but moreover its been giving me a knew comfort in life and I can't stop listening to it. Peace my friend and thank-you for sharing your gift to the world
Wow! Im officially a fan! I love your tone btw. Its not over processed and more organic sounding. Im learning guitar myself at age 40 haha. You are an inspiration. Thanks!
in case youre still wondering, he used a schecter traditional guitar with seymour duncan antiquity texas hot pickups, straight into a mesa boogie dual rectifier combo amp.
hehe, a legato/hybrid picked masterful run... I remember hearing that Nick barely alternate picks at all... but the notes are still there! Can't argue with neoclassical!
I'm almost embarrassed to have only just discovered you now. I've been listening to this album over an over for the past few days and have been super inspired by your playing and songwriting. I love strong melody-driven instrumental guitar music and this is some of the best I've ever heard. It's up there with Satriani or Timmons. Keep doing what you do!
Since i've discovered this album a couple of years ago, I haven't stop listening to it since. No shame at all. I'm a guitar player and I fucking love it since the day I found it. Changed the way I wanted to play.
Chord progression; the licks and subtle bits that combine it all.. The tones.. In and out of the fills, timing,,, Hell, even the background!! You moved me with it all.. Even my skin reacts to it. It's not often I come across such gems, and I tend to look every so often. I'm sold! Ignore Alien Orders... Just love it mate!
Yesterday my ex-wife told me she loves someone else. I wanted to go back to her but knowing what she told me I decided to walk away. And then I was looking for something to get to sleep.... Soothe my pain that I feel... This music did... helped a lot. Thanks for this.
Tears are probably your friend right now; alcohol, drugs, and addictive behaviours are probably less helpful. There's lots of anger, fear, and ultimately sadness to feel at the end of a relationship. Feelings can be repressed so that they come up stronger and at inopportune times, or they can be felt when they come up. In my experience of repressing feelings for decades, I can with authority say that repression did not help nearly as much as dealing with the emotions directly. Your mileage may of course vary(though I doubt it). Good luck, Alan Tomlinson
I felt this sudden impulse to write this while listening to Hypergiant. It's a remarkable album! Such soul touching music. But Hypergiant - the song - I don't know why or how, it takes me to an emotional level that is simply incomprehensible and cannot be expressed by words. The melancholy is so deep that it unearths the deepest and saddest memories and makes me cry. Thank you Nick. Thank you for creating this amazing music.
Merci Monsieur
This kept popping up again and again and again in recommendations...now I see why. Glad I decided to listen. As someone who is really kind of hard to please or impress with musicianship, I can candidly say that the world could use more of this kind of music and I'm glad you're making it. Thank you.
Wow...I remember Nick showing me a pre-prod snippet of 'Ignore Alien Orders' when I was having a Skype Lesson with him. It sounded epic and moving back then over skype, hearing it in the full blew my mind. This album is awe inspiring, I love the other albums a lot but this really sounds as though you have made some kinda crazy huge step into being more Nick Johnston than Nick Johnston has ever been! (which of course is amazing!) Love it :) Can't wait for my copy to arrive!
I don't typically ever leave RUclips comments for any reason whatsoever but seriously, this has been the absolute best random RUclips click since I discovered Jarle H. Olsen. Absolutely beautiful beyond words and I will most certainly purchasing albums. Unreal man. Bravo.
I'm just 12 minutes into this album and I'm loving what I'm hearing. Great guitar tone and I love the restraint in the playing. Nick can obviously 'rip it up' when required but keeps his powder dry until the appropriate moment. Most technically virtuous players can't do this. Tremendous! May have to buy this one....a keeper.
Agree. Start shredding on your guitar, after about 2 minutes you get bored. Tempo change, timing, staccato etc, you need it all to create dynamics. It accentuates the fast moments.
My new favourite guitarist (for the moment) followed closely by Andy Timmons. Listened to this album on loop last few weeks. Just brilliant thankyou very much Nick :)

very good my brother, take a look at my channel, recorded a solo too, I am grateful for the support and strength. we're together
Just saw you in Atlanta at the Masquerade and can't say enough positive things about your soulful, tasty compositions! Your playing reminds me of Jeff Beck, but you have a unique melodic style that is just as listenable and deep. Keep up the great work!!
This is still my favorite album of the last 4years...so tastefull... Different time signatures ..jazzy ..blusy..rocky.. melodic...shreddy... The best tone this side of gilmour..hackett...knopfler...beck. I get so much enjoyment every listen. And thats just the playing.. Songwriting is brilliant as well.
I learned about you about 8 months ago and got hooked on your music quick. Your music clinics are entertaining and live music performances are incredible. The tone of your Schecter guitar is addicting. I'm a fan now for life.
I honestly hand on my heart have listened to this album everyday for over a month and when im at work it can replay up to 6 times . I am addicted to this music. Thankyou nick. I wish to meet you one day.
Esto es genial, no solo es talento, son buenas canciones. Tengo la tradición de escuchar instrumentales de guitarra en diciembre y este es uno de los albumes que más repito. Saludos desde Lima-Perú
I was listening to Joe Satriani and I checked the related videos and saw this one. "Nick Johnston huh? Never heard of this guy. Let's check it out" I thought. Best click I did in a RUclips video in quite some time. It's fuckin' awesome!! :D
@@powermetallistic2293 in my case it was Opeth but I know Plini it's awesome. Opeth's new solo and Tool's new solo are great. In terms of music this summer was pretty cool.
yep, I too came from Satriani. Even funnier thing is how I discovered Satriani - I was searching for the "song in 10 words" (this one ruclips.net/video/7lRldr2BH2M/видео.html , that I heard like million years ago... ) ANd I found Satriani's masterpiece 10 words. I am Satriani's fan ever since then :D and now ('bout a year ago) I discovered Nick
So cool to see so many people still listening after almost a decade. Love you guys
Timeless album and tone lol
Listening right now while I work. It's my favorite instrumental album since the first listening back in college
In my top 3 favorite instrumental albums of all time. Thank you for this gem.
a perfect album for subzero weather in Cincy Ohio the last two weeks!! THANK YOU --- your guitar playing is so sweet!
well you made history with this album man

got a Tweed tone for sure.
in case youre still wondering, he used a schecter traditional guitar with seymour duncan antiquity texas hot pickups, straight into a mesa boogie dual rectifier combo amp.
Best guitar instrumental album Ive ever listened to
Oh you silly RUclips Algorithm...taking 4 years to bring this masterpiece to my feed. Better late than never. Bravo! I love this!
Impeccable taste and phrasing. Love your stuff! Haven't heard music this good in years thanks!
Amazing
41:54 wow, a legit Malmsteen run. I would have bet money he wouldn't throw one of those in there but nope, there it is!
hehe good to see others actually listening
hehe, a legato/hybrid picked masterful run... I remember hearing that Nick barely alternate picks at all... but the notes are still there! Can't argue with neoclassical!
I would have thought "Neo-Classical!" and left it there. But yeah, gotta admit that's a hat tip to the leather clad, portly guitar god! ☺️
Cool, Yes Yngwie does the lick but who really invented it? Bach maybe? or Paganini? Who really knows?
very good my brother, take a look at my channel, recorded a solo too, I am grateful for the support and strength. we're together
Found this album again after 5 years. Now I can appreciate it better!
Yesterday my ex-wife told me she loves someone else. I wanted to go back to her but knowing what she told me I decided to walk away. And then I was looking for something to get to sleep.... Soothe my pain that I feel... This music did... helped a lot. Thanks for this.
Timmy nice
Tears are probably your friend right now; alcohol, drugs, and addictive behaviours are probably less helpful. There's lots of anger, fear, and ultimately sadness to feel at the end of a relationship. Feelings can be repressed so that they come up stronger and at inopportune times, or they can be felt when they come up. In my experience of repressing feelings for decades, I can with authority say that repression did not help nearly as much as dealing with the emotions directly. Your mileage may of course vary(though I doubt it).
Good luck,
Alan Tomlinson
I've been there, I hope you're doing better. It does get better, remember millions go through this they make it and so can you.
hope you're doing ok
man hope you're doing well. It feels like shit but it's good to get rid of bad influences in the long run. Have a nice one
This album legitimately gives me chills whenever I listen to it. This is amazing work, Nick!
amazing album. It's impressive without shredding all the time. This is pure music
This music is incredible. Since Jeff Beck, I haven't had such a big slap. So much musicality and technique. it's just incredible... I m a big fan
Can we just take a minute and congratulate the artist for his artiwork????
Merci Monsieur
This piece is the one that sticks in my head most compared to others in the album. The guitar arrangement is so tight ... the drum is superb!!
This kept popping up again and again and again in recommendations...now I see why. Glad I decided to listen. As someone who is really kind of hard to please or impress with musicianship, I can candidly say that the world could use more of this kind of music and I'm glad you're making it. Thank you.
This is real music! Not just a vehicle for monster playing. Fantastic art.
Congratulations Nick, Luke, Bryan, Gavin and sound team!!!!
A true masterpiece .
Tremendous! May have to buy this one....a keeper.
chukrock it means more when restrained. Then play fast at the right moment
Agree. Start shredding on your guitar, after about 2 minutes you get bored. Tempo change, timing, staccato etc, you need it all to create dynamics. It accentuates the fast moments.
spot on
That’s why I like a lot of Vinnie Moore’s stuff. There’s a lot of that vibe in Mind’s Eye and Meltdown.
Purchased the album and still listening to this everyday - masterpiece!
"Its like my ears can hear what beautiful looks like" Beautiful description. And couldn't be more perfect. Dan Doves
My new favourite guitarist (for the moment) followed closely by Andy Timmons. Listened to this album on loop last few weeks. Just brilliant thankyou very much Nick :)
very good my brother, take a look at my channel, recorded a solo too, I am grateful for the support and strength. we're together
That major third in a minor scale, I will call that "Johnston note" ...
Awesome.
I have been listening to you for a couple of years! Your playing is so heart felt with alot force. Very excellent!!!
Just saw you in Atlanta at the Masquerade and can't say enough positive things about your soulful, tasty compositions! Your playing reminds me of Jeff Beck, but you have a unique melodic style that is just as listenable and deep. Keep up the great work!!
bro wrong account?!??!?
it reminds me of muse
The influences of Nickelback and Sinatra are subtle yet unmistakable
Nice album :), the artwork is just perfect by the way !
I love this...STILL! The theme being used is awesome!
I learned about you about 8 months ago and got hooked on your music quick. Your music clinics are entertaining and live music performances are incredible. The tone of your Schecter guitar is addicting. I'm a fan now for life.
Just discovered this ! Wow. NICK is simply outstanding. Pure genius. This is exceptionally good work !
WOW you're a genius, an artist.
Creative. Just a masterpiece.
This album is still so musically and tonally interesting. I keep going back to it.
I honestly hand on my heart have listened to this album everyday for over a month and when im at work it can replay up to 6 times . I am addicted to this music. Thankyou nick. I wish to meet you one day.
Perfect union between piano an guitar...
And drums and bass
Exactly !
Makes me want to find a piano player to jam with.
RUclips recommended this video and it is very relaxing! I downloaded it from eMusic. Very melodic!
2016?? Wow!! How did i miss this.. amazing!!
Been listening to this since you dropped it. Your music is absolutely incredible and strikes the soul.
Esto es genial, no solo es talento, son buenas canciones. Tengo la tradición de escuchar instrumentales de guitarra en diciembre y este es uno de los albumes que más repito. Saludos desde Lima-Perú
7:25 reminds me a bit of Coheed & Cambria's Welcome Home.
Thank you so much, I love working while listen to this. Amazing lovely music.
I was listening to Joe Satriani and I checked the related videos and saw this one. "Nick Johnston huh? Never heard of this guy. Let's check it out" I thought. Best click I did in a RUclips video in quite some time. It's fuckin' awesome!! :D
I anticipate you your next best click:
Ne Obliviscaris.
same, but Malmsteen in my case. Nice discovery!!! Love it.
Plini in my case. Check Plini out if you don't know his work. :)
I am Satriani's fan ever since then :D
and now ('bout a year ago) I discovered Nick
