    For those wondering what the story means: It was written by Maurice Sendak for his first dog, a Sealyham terrier named Jennie. She appeared in nearly all of his books in some way from 1954 to 1967. The story was his whimsical approach to mortality and complex animal consciousness; he wrote it as a tribute to Jennie during her fatal sickness in 1967. 1967 was an awful year for Sendak. At the age of 39 he had his first heart attack while filming with the BBC in England, his mother was suffering from cancer and would die the following year, and when he returned home he discovered that Jennie also had cancer. In the book, Baby looks like him as a baby and when Mother Goose is shown she has his mothers face, and Castle Yonder is Heaven; the whole book was about his losses.

      Thank you for that context. Something about this felt uncanny like a story about purgatory, but now I have a different level of appreciation for this film.

      No, the video description sets out exactly what this tale is about, from the film makers. Don't be disrespectful.

    • @Sharauni
      @Sharauni 3 месяца назад +22

      @@datgrrl_official The first part sure, it has to do with Jennie the dog who is dissatisfied with life and leaves to find whatever it is she's missing. But the second part, that has nothing to do with this! This is not a short about personal space in a workplace between two coworkers and if anyone thinks it is they're wrong. I think KIS KIS put the wrong description down. I got all the info about what this story is from actual articles on it and Sendak's life, so I'm not being disrespectful.

    Wow, like this was such a old school vibe with the puppets and costumes! It's like that borderline feel I had with the labyrinth movie. At times it had that uncanny uneasy creepiness to it but the overall production was still beautifully made, a magic about it, and I couldn't stop watching! Loved it! Hope this gets the love it deserves!

    Okay, who made these puppets. I would love to see them make full length movies in this style. The creativity in this piece is just astonishing yet it works with the story about a dog who tries to gain experience and learns that there is more to life and gets the experience of life in this short that feels like a stream of consciousness. It is absolutely amazing and I recommmend it for anyone.

    "I can't tell you where castle yonder is, because I don't know where it is. But if you ever come this way, look for me" is SUCH a powerful line
    The way I see it is she can't tell his friend how to achieve greatness/personal fulfillment, because reaching such is a path reserved to each and every one of us. But if we try hard enough, we might just reach it.

    Maurice Sendak's Higglety, Pigglety, Pop. 55 years old and this is still one of my favorite stories from childhood.
    Higglety, Pigglety, Pop,
    The dog has eaten the mop.
    The pig's in a hurry,
    The cat's in a flurry,
    Higglety, pigglety, pop.
