Every year i come back to watch this it’s incredible how you can actually slowly see how your point of view changes and you start to understand each and every single character and detail in this. truly incredible writing and to the animators and sound designers you all did an incredible job

This reminds me of a poem I read in highschool. I forgot the name but it was about a group of people stuck in an icy cave. Everyone had a stick, but because of the differences between everyone no one would put their stick in the fire. There was a rich man, a beggar, a working man, and I think 2 others. The poem was left with an open ending, where they either got over the differences, or they all froze to death. This animation is just one of the few possibilities that same story could have ended.

Interesting ending: Little stick wakes up to find he has no friends, but off in the distance the sound of trees being chopped down can be heard. This means two things; one, it's sad that more trees are being killed given how barren the land already is in the final shot, BUT, it also means that the little stick will have some new friends now that new timber is being made. It's oddly sad and inspiring at the same time, what dilemma of emotions well done :\
It's amazing how it masterfully shows that believing "I'll be fine alone, other people aren't as competent as me" will only end up destroying yourself. Because of 1 'all-high and mighty' tree refusing to cooperate and work together to find solution, they all fail. I doubt the wise but weak little one can survive alone.. Really meaningful and simple but clear animation.
They didn’t start falling apart when he didn’t cooperate, but when he tried to force the other tree to give more of itself. Basically he was forcing the other trunk to contribute more to make up for his lack of contribution, which is where things went wrong.
I've seen a saying that's somewhat similar to this, the saying is "if a little girl didn't feel the warmth of her village, she would burn the village to feel the warmth"
I've been watching this animation several times and I finally got the message, the fire means prosperity, the trunks are the differences between people, so the message is if we share our part the fire of prosperity will continue even in hard times. I have also noticed one of the trunks is selfish, it must represent the high class, and when everyone fights againts him the youngest trunk survives because of honesty

I love how the ending ties in with the rest of the short. It's like a way to say: we're capable of destroying our brothers for our own means, and we're doing this same thing with our "mother" nature. But, by doing so, all we're doing is destroying ourselves.

I really loved this video, despite how morbid it is. Short animations like this that tell an interesting little story without mentioning much is one of my favorite. The thinnest log needed the heat most otherwise it would have submerged under the ice blown by cold wind. Other logs could have survived the wind. But only the biggest log who started the fire understood this, others just wanted heat for themselves. Lesson: Save the lives of future ones (smallest log is the analogy here) by stop fighting among ourselves for resources. In short, sustainable development is the theme of the short.
In the beginning scene where they surround the campfire, the personalities I can tell with each timber from left to right is frightened, calm, wise, childlike, and tough.
When I looked at the thumbnail I thought this was gonna be a cute animation where everyone helps each other, but instead, they fight for fire that lasts 1 day, and what happens the smallest wins the battle.

Alright, I enjoy this film because I choose to separate myself from society while still being a part of society. I live with my parents but I spend most my time alone in my room playing games or if I’m not in my room I’m outside exploring nature and collecting random things I find. I like being alone because it gives me a sense of belonging to myself and nature and only myself nature nobody else lol.
Catastrophes bring out self-preservation in the most savage ways. We forget how compassion, unity, peace, generosity, and civilization rely so much on prosperity. Civilization is always three days from anarchy, I believe it was.

It reminds me of a poem I read, called the cold within. There are 6 humans sitting around a fire each with a piece of wood. The fire is dying out but no one wants to give up their wood because of the prejudices they hold for the other humans. In the end they die because of their cold within when the fire dies out.
That just seems stupid. Everyone acts like prejudices like “I think you dress weird because it’s different” will make them “refuse to put a stick on a fire” (even if it means saving themselves) but you completely ignore people who literally believe killing the people they have prejudices against is a good thing. Also kind of dumb imo because people wouldn’t kill themselves just to ensure others’ deaths, and the only people the message would affect are already open minded enough to not need the message. Like I said, some people are willing to kill without thought just because someone belongs to a certain group, and the message of the poem won’t work on people like that. Y’all focused on the wrong type of prejudice out here.
My humble opinion as a first time watcher: “instant gratification vs a postpones one”, ergo “ in times of tragedy and needs we keep focusing on our own immediate survival instead of joining forces for finding a solutions” . Meaning: lost in the middle of a tragic event as the loss of their dwelling, instead of joining forces and looking for a more stable solution that would be eventually allowing all of them to survive on the long run, they have opted for sacrificing pieces of themselves in order to put a patch on the most immediate need (warmth”, hence arriving to conflict as soon as the source of warmth started to decline, bringing to light their inner nature. At the end, the only one standing was still focusing on the warmth generated, spending their entire night until the new day come and and the forest is kept getting cut. Just my two bits worth; maybe this possible interpretation of the story will change along the way )) thanks everybody for your comments: they were most interesting. I really loved this video, despite how morbid it is. Short animations like this that tell an interesting little story without mentioning much is one of my favorite. This video also achieved making me feel a bit sad for the sticks and logs having to endure the cold...and the eventually conclusions. Such isolation, one can only wonder what it must be like...

The thinnest log needed the heat most otherwise it would have submerged under the ice blown by cold wind. Other logs could have survived the wind. But only the biggest log who started the fire understood this, others just wanted heat for themselves. Lesson: Save the lives of future ones (smallest log is the analogy here) by stop fighting among ourselves for resources. In short, sustainable development is the theme of the short.

In the beginning scene where they surround the campfire, the personalities I can tell with each timber from left to right is frightened, calm, wise, childlike, and tough.
I can see that now, that’s actually interesting and so much into the animations.

Alright, I enjoy this film because I choose to separate myself from society while still being a part of society. I live with my parents but I spend most my time alone in my room playing games or if I’m not in my room I’m outside exploring nature and collecting random things I find. It reminds me of a poem I read, called the cold within. There are 6 humans sitting around a fire each with a piece of wood. The fire is dying out but no one wants to give up their wood because of the prejudices they hold for the other humans. In the end they die because of their cold within when the fire dies out.
That just seems stupid.
Everyone acts like prejudices like “I think you dress weird because it’s different” will make them “refuse to put a stick on a fire” (even if it means saving themselves) but you completely ignore people who literally believe killing the people they have prejudices against is a good thing.
Also kind of dumb imo because people wouldn’t kill themselves just to ensure others’ deaths, and the only people the message would affect are already open minded enough to not need the message.
Like I said, some people are willing to kill without thought just because someone belongs to a certain group, and the message of the poem won’t work on people like that.
Y’all focused on the wrong type of prejudice out here.
My humble opinion as a first time watcher:
“instant gratification vs a postpones one”,
ergo “ in times of tragedy and needs we keep focusing on our own immediate survival instead of joining forces for finding a solutions” .
Meaning: lost in the middle of a tragic event as the loss of their dwelling, instead of joining forces and looking for a more stable solution that would be eventually allowing all of them to survive on the long run, they have opted for sacrificing pieces of themselves in order to put a patch on the most immediate need (warmth”, hence arriving to conflict as soon as the source of warmth started to decline, bringing to light their inner nature.
At the end, the only one standing was still focusing on the warmth generated, spending their entire night until the new day come and and the forest is kept getting cut.
Just my two bits worth; maybe this possible interpretation of the story will change along the way )) thanks everybody for your comments: they were most interesting. And thanks for the producers of this short, most intriguing story, very minimal and meaningful, a fine job, thanks
