  • The footage you're about to see was filmed in the late 1960s by my father Eloy Escagedo Lliraldi. At that time my parents were still dating, not yet married. This footage captures a day at Key Biscayne and the Crandon park zoo. There are also various clips driving around Miami and at home. Along with my parents, we also have my immediate family all together enjoying that day at the zoo.
This is a snapshot moment in time. It revels Miami as it use to be in the late 1960s and the people that made up my world half a decade later when I was born. This is deeply meaningful to me in so many ways. Most of the people filmed that day, my family, are no longer with us. So to see them again, smiling, walking and enjoying that day in the past, overwhelms me greatly.
    Family in this film:
Eloy Escagedo Lliraldi, Berta Maria Gutierrez, Maria Del Carmen Gutierrez, Luis Gutierrez, Agueda Jimenez, Eloy Escagedo Valle, Ramona Lliraldi, Luis Lliraldi and friend of the family Rosa Toledo.

Loved being transported back to my childhood and Crandon Park. The production values were enchanting. Your mom gets kudos for being stylish. What a treasure!

This video appeared to me this morning. Thank you. I'm from Hialeah; was in elementary school early 1960's. We also went to Crandon Zoo and Beach. Bless you. Peace in Christ. JB [born 1958 NYC] now in 34205. 🧑🏻

This brings back memories. I made lots of trips to the Crandon Park
Zoo in the 1960s. We usually also stopped by the Space Museum and Planetarium as well on those weekends. My parents brought my brother and I from Havana Cuba to Miami in 1961. It was a different world back then for sure.

Thank you for this. It sure has changed. It is weird seeing people wearing coats and long sleeves. I’ve lived in Miami for 20 years and I have never worn a coat outdoors. It is too hot! With the rare exception of a few days in the winter when a light sweater is enough!

Some of the best quality 8mm film I’ve ever seen. Very well preserved. Your Mom reminds me of Lana Del Rey (a compliment).

    Thank you for your video.
I am from Cuba came to Miami November 1968 when I was 3 years old. I grew up in Miami and I still live in Hialeah will most likely stay here for the rest of my life.
I remember going to the zoo with my mom and dad riding the little train and having a lot of fun. My mom passed away this year in January and this brought me a lot of memories.
    Thank you.

I really enjoyed this. I use to have relatives who lived in Hialeah. We use to go to the Crandon Park Zoo and the Seaquarium all the time. Thank you for posting it.

    Hello
Nice home movies, you are very lucky to have these images of your family
I myself have over 7000 feet of Super 8 of my family during our stay in Madrid Spain after leaving Cuba to our life in Miami during the early 70s through our life in Miami
Just as you mentioned in your comments, in my case there are many in my family that are no longer with us, but I am glad I am a film amateur and have been able to filmed and treasure those memories
    Regards

Hello good evening! I recently ventured inside Crandon Park and was fascinated with everything. Time really does change everything. Do you still live in Miami? I took lots of photos of how the park looks now if you want to see them

@1:48, that hyena has a scam going on: He qualifies for free food because he's "captive", but at the same time he roams like a wild animal

These are home movies my father took back in the 60s and 70s. This was from one reel out of a dozen or so reels that Javi digitized for me a few months back. For years they were sitting in a white and blue Pan Am carry on bag. I eventually moved the film reels to a lidded storage box until recently.
