Thank you so much for this video. My great grandfather is from the Canary Islands, and I believe this is where some of my indigenous ancestry is from. Would love to talk to you sometime. I've never met another Cuban outside my family with similar lineage.
Thanks Al! The history of those islands is enjoyable to explore. There was lots of things happening, with people of various origins, across the ages, in those places. I had no idea until I started exploring this.
Wow! I wonder if you and I are related. My paternal grandmother has most of her ancestry from the Canary Islands; although she has French ancestry thru her maternal grandmother; everybody else were from the C. I.
@@teresasardinas5642 It could be, at some point, Canarians have certain connections, and many also transferred over to Cuba, with more relations coming together. I see a lot of cousin matches through DNA, and many of them are either from the Canary Islands proper, or from Cuba, with Canary Island ancestors.
Im Cuban my ancestry results; Spain 42% Portugal 33% Northern Africa 5% France 4% Scotland 4% Basque 3% Ireland 3% Indigenous Cuba 2% Senegal 1% Benin and Togo 1% Cameroon, Congo and western Bantu people 1% Indigenous America Yucatán peninsula 1% What would be the first step to diving down into this level of ancestry ?
From the estimates you shared, and what I've seen concerning my own research, you likely have a fair amount of Canary Island Ancestry. The amounts of Spain, Portugal and North Africa, plus you saying you're of Cuban heritage, points to that (there could and would be other places they came from). Broadly, and I mean broadly, any combination of estimates like yours, indicates the history of the Spanish Empire across time. But estimates are not hard drawn lines either, building a tree would be helpful in answering questions, with estimates and cousin matches as a useful tools.
We're all decendants of people who were conquerors and conquered regardless of regional concentration. When you remove the recency bias and look at it from a macro perspective, taking into account your full ancestry going back to the dawn of humanity I would argue every single decendant has about an equal amount of each in their dna.

I know more of my mother's side genealogy but my abuelo on my dad side had some amazing stories. 🇪🇸🇮🇨🇨🇺
Great video!!
This is awesome, I also have an account with my true ancestry and I found out I have a lot of Greek ancestry.
So do I, back to North Nicaragua.
the truth is out there! Dang Eloy...so thorough! gives me a little inclination to do the same - well not that much 🙂

Interesting reflections. I would never hold it against you that you’re descended from 😊conquistadors. I’m fairly certain my ancestors owned slave..
