Very nice! This is the best kick serve tutorial I have seen on youtube, BY FAR. It really goes into specific details that are missed in other videos by other pages. Thank you!!!
I would not want to play against your serves, but greatly appreciate your insight on how to effectively execute the Kick Serve! The brushing from 7>1 (and 8>2) are the best explanations I’ve seen.. The emphasis on the ball toss is still at Noon (or just slightly behind the left shoulder), correct? Cheers from Hawai’i 🤙
Extremely clever practice tips Thx Simon, most especially on the bent knee. This is a very clever way and love the clever thinking behind how you can develop it yourself. Ultra-high tennis IQ! Keep it up! I was a teenage competitive player in Canada and also a tennis coach back in the late 80's and hung up the racket since then but getting back into it... would be super interested to hear your take on players who are doing what I am... there are many. They play from age 6-9 to 14-18 and then life gets in the way, and many other things come out that are more important. Hang up the racket. Then age 40-50 we come back to the game. What then? How is it different?
Many thanks 🙏 I’ve worked with many players who went through the same experience. Played a lot as juniors, gave up for 10, 20 or 30 years and come back to tennis later on. The hand eye coordination is always there. You don’t lose that. However, I’ve found that many of them were taught classical techniques. Neutral or closed stances, take the racket back down low, extend towards the target, continental grip for the forehand etc It’s almost like a Time Machine watching them play. Very often I’d have to teach them the new fundamentals, new grips, new stances, how to create topspin, how to move more efficiently, basically like a systems update from version 1.4 to a 8.2 The main thing is to enjoy the game and find the love of learning the new systems
Great breakdown, your first video on serve helped me a lot and this one will as well I’m sure. Do you think it is possible to hit kick serve with continental grip? Or is eastern mandatory
Many thanks 🙏 It’s absolutely possible to hit the kick serve with the continental grip, many players use that grip. But, some players benefit more from a slight adjustment
Excellent video, i know now why some of my intended kick serves are coming off with slice sometimes- because im opening my shouders too early. Great stuff!
Thanks, this tutorial is really helpful! One question: I understand the toss should be to the left of my head, but what about the depth into the baseline? Should the depth be smaller than a flat or slice serve? I am asking because I think to the left side and the depth are 2 dimensions which have no contradiction with each other, and I found the toss depth will also influence my kick serve a lot, and I don't know the ideal depth.
Could you guys please do a video analysing Ben Shelton’s kick serve and explaining what it is that he does that makes his kick serve so different from almost every other player. Thanks!!!
It depends on the strings. Tight strings don’t require a high tension. Many pros are now using 40lbs and below on the right poly strings. Mannarino uses 18-25lbs at some events. Tight strings plus tight tensions = injuries. Players have to hit so much harder to produce power
It would land to the left side of the body in general, unless you keep the same toss as usual but adjust your leg drive. And it would land somewhere around the baseline or just behind it if you’re really going for the precise kick serve basics
Great video. The only thing I am a little confused about is the description of the contact point on the ball at 4:20 . Which direction are you looking at the ball from as you visualize the clock face?
How tonhit a fast kick service, when I accelerate the serve it invariably goes long... then I have to go more upwards and it slows down and sets up for reciever
Greetings coach… One problem not mentioned… If you spin from left to right the ball just spins and spins but makes hardly any forward motion. Getting that forward motion on the kick sounds like common sense (hitting more forward), but much harder than it looks. Cheers

Thanks Simon. Great lesson. And a huge +1 for using Federer's videos. Watching him in slow motion is a pleasure 😊

Good luck with the improvements
I smashed the like button an now my screen cracked
Great video. Can u please talk about getting a consistent toss? As a new player(about 2 yrs) That's one of my biggest challenge. Thx
Element three in this lesson is all about the ball toss: ruclips.net/video/6998O764rKU/видео.html
@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial thank you very much!!
Always interesting... Thanks!
Concerning the leg drive, do you slightly put more focus (push) on the front or back leg???
Both legs drive equally as much, however, in the loading phase, the body weight can be more on the back leg to facilitate the shoulder drop
Amazing video, as always !
Sensational, it's not for lack of knowledge that I fail the kick serve ... 😂
😂 well now you have some drills to work on 👍
Excellent lesson. Thanks for sharing. Btw. easier to watch than to execute
Absolutely 🤣
Thanks, this tutorial is really helpful!

It depends a lot on your knee bend, experiment with the toss location in relation to the baseline
@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial I see. I will try the toss location. Thanks very much for the reply!🥰
Pete Sampras had the best serve even though the man is 6'5...something like that
Pete is 6’1 (185cm) which makes his serve even more unbelievable
That court by the ocean is gorgeous 😍
Beautiful court isn’t it. The waves 🌊 and the sun ☀️
Could you guys please do a video analysing Ben Shelton’s kick serve and explaining what it is that he does that makes his kick serve so different from almost every other player. Thanks!!!
Very nice instruction. Thank you!
My pleasure 🙏
Great lesson as always Simon! Thanks👍
Many thanks Grant 🙏
Simon, YOUR kick is amazing! Don't tell us that you recorded many takes ; ) Thank you!
One take my man 🤣
2:39 crazy!

Great video. Thanks.
Many thanks 🙏
Any lessons you’d like to see in the near future?
Hi, I am finding it difficult to hit a kick serve to the deuce court, pls.help me.with this
so good!!
Many thanks 🙏
Thanks for your lesson, really it works to improve the kick serve!!!
Many thanks 🙏
Pratical tutorial, easy to understand, greatvideo this is.
Many thanks 🙏
What a great lesson! Thank you so much, Simon!
My pleasure
Thanks for the support 🙏
Do you use Pure Aero? String and tension? ✌🏻✌🏻😀
Yes I use that frame for now.
An unknown poly string, tension is between 38-42lbs depending on the weather
Low low, little control
It depends on the strings. Tight strings don’t require a high tension. Many pros are now using 40lbs and below on the right poly strings. Mannarino uses 18-25lbs at some events.
Tight strings plus tight tensions = injuries. Players have to hit so much harder to produce power
Thanks Simon, but your racket is the Pure Aero 98? Do you gauge 1.25 mm or 1.30mm?
Very good! Will follow your advise tomorrow!!
Let me know how it goes 👍
How did it go
Best course on this topic!
Very nice discussion and visual aids.
Many thanks 🙏
Great lesson!
Grest to see that your videos about kick serve are improving over the time
Many thanks 🙏
Can you do a kick-serve ball toss and show us where it lands (assuming it isn't hit)?
It would land to the left side of the body in general, unless you keep the same toss as usual but adjust your leg drive. And it would land somewhere around the baseline or just behind it if you’re really going for the precise kick serve basics
Let’s go!

Fantastic step by step tutorial ! Many thanks from France
My pleasure 🙏
Slightly towards the backhand grip of you are a righty for the kick serve is do ATP players use Continental grip??
best coach online perfect break down thank you Coach Simon
Many thanks for the support 🙏
Why isn’t Simon on Tour? Serve is looking “very effective”
If you are offering to sponsor me for the year, I’d gladly accept 😂
Best serve on RUclips- I’m trying to copy it
Cus u need to have unreal athleticism and weapons to be on tour

Greetings coach… One problem not mentioned… If you spin from left to right the ball just spins and spins but makes hardly any forward motion. Getting that forward motion on the kick sounds like common sense (hitting more forward), but much harder than it looks. Cheers
For any poor souls that have the same issue... If too much spin and not enough forward motion pronate more. That's the key
