    Hey Roger. This video popped up after your newest. Best door gap video I have seen. Thanks for the explanation about the filler rod. Good stuff.

    Nice video, and awesome idea for the gap. This way you keep your edge and don't have to try and shape it. Glad I seen this video.

    I know the video is old, but great job. For those narrow gaps that are too big for welding rod I use a metal coat hanger. I actually use the coat hanger quite a bit to fill burn throughs. Helps keep the heat down. Slowly making my way through your videos.

    Thank you so much for these tips. Did take me a few to find this vid, but I have saved it now. I second the use of the flux covered electrodes. They helped tremendously with the panel split on my 69 Camaro. Thank you for being so detailed!

      All good and gapped on my 69 for the trunk area and passenger side door. I had to split the whole way down for the passenger door, but still worked well. Thank you again!

    Thanks for the video. I 've been searching on how to fix the door gaps on my 69 chevelle. This was the best and cleanest way to do it. Thanks a million.

    This is a brilliant idea! Never thought of doing it this way.
    I've studied up on how show car builder do these gaps but they always just spread filler over the gaps with foam tape behind then razor blade out perfect gaps. Not too promising to last for a while but this here is awesome! I may have to do this on my trans am when i redo my door skins.
    Great videos, i subscribed the other day

    Roger, could you use a mteal coat hanger in place of the small rod? Just wondering. You are doing such an awesome job!!!

    • @MrFireman164
      @MrFireman164  9 лет назад +1

      Guess you could if you've got one that doesn't have some kind of coating on it to keep it from rusting , my wife buys only plastic hangers , so that's not an option , besides those rods are cheap

      I would not recommended that, clothes hanger wire is very bad quality metal. It has all kinds of contaminants. Stick with quality welding metal such as in the video.

    It is a crying shame that aftermarket panels are so far off from factory fit. I was told to use a left-handed hammer on a door stretcher to get a tighter gap. This should be a kit in every box for no extra charge.
    My “GM” Factory Authorized 3D prismatic sticker on the box from Taiwan did not pass quality control inspected because the Chevy tailgate was 3/16” thicker on the passengers side upper corner. Even though striped to bare metal around the tail light cavity was pristine with no witness marks, welds or filler was outside or in. It’s a shame, because I will have to cut perfectly good metal to get the flush look.
    After all, I think tailgates are flush with the bed once closed. My 2-3” micrometer does not lye! More work as they won’t do anything about it or even take it back! I am sure only one tailgate got by the quality control guy who was on lunch, while they switch over to stamp quarter panels that are too short. ase master - retired

    • @MrFireman164
      @MrFireman164  9 лет назад

      +KingsDisasterGarage I put the whole car together and adjusted the gaps as tight as I could , and that's basically the way it sits now. So to answer your question, yes. the magnet came from Atwoods
