When are you going to talk about the live action Netflix remake of one piece? It's not like other live action remakes, I would like to know about your perspective on the that remake. One piece's length is the reason why the second one piece anime is going to happen, because people who seen the live action remake trying to check out the anime have given up or didn't bother to watch it do it's length and toei animation studios habit of stretching out scenes and plots in every episode while adapting each chapter.

When MelonTeee retold Nami’s story and about Bell-mére’s sacrifice, I couldn’t stop thinking about how much it parallels to Law’s own story and his relationship with Corazon. The unconditional love both parents had for their kids, the devotion those kids had for their parents after their deaths, the witnessing of their parents passing, and the tattoos they got to represent the love they had for their parent. Not to mention both Nami and Law worked for the same person who killed their caretaker. They make me so sick I love Nami and Law so much. 😞❤️
Interestingly, Namis skill is cartography, which is based ob the word "carte". In Japanese, medical records are called "carte" which stems from German. Both Nami and Law are skilled to write Cartes.
Oda often portrays food = kindness/love. Starvation and famine (like in Wano) are some of the worst acts of cruelty against humanity. Oda keeps trying to say everyone should have a seat at the banquet and to feast, there is enough for everyone. That's why Luffy always throws parties with feasts.
Oh my God what an amazing video, I'm so GLAD someone mentioned Arlongs strange fancy for Nami (to extension mayhaps even Koala) since how its set up and later revealed is le interesting to me. When she returns she's greeted fondly by the fishmen, she acts like one of them, and hides her true feelings for her facade. But then we see her origins, he killed her mother in front of her (i bet in some way it was cathartic for him to shoot a Marine huh *wink wink*) and the fishmen dragged her away from the village to force her draw maps, tormented her in many ways. Until the agreement that she can buy her Village back. Like Arlong had an epiphany that starving, slamming the kids head into walls and throwing her around like a football was far less motivating than dangling freedom and equality for her. Suddenly that prisoner became a pet for him. "I'll feed her, I'll buy her all the beautiful clothes she wants! she will want for nothing." It's very a horrible way to view someone but it's by far the best view he's had on a human. Then Arlong reveals Nami to have made many attempts on his life through their 8 years partnership. Especially important when one of the Fishman officers Kuroobi constantly has deep suspensions on Nami to be a traitor, when that was always the case but Arlong didn't care enough. His off comment remarks how she joined the same pirate crew that killed her mother and you can see how that makes Nami turn cold. Very cool arc, me thinks Nami was the most alluring characters Oda set up in East blue and that pay off was so epic. You're coverage on the Baratie was also amazing, just the little nice set-ups and emphasis you place on Mihawks, duel fights and their unity of dreams really opened my third eye. Same with all the other arcs covered here and their thematic importance running to this very day. Cant wait for you to cover future arcs! I've seen so many people crap all over those I've come to adore like Skypiea, longringlong isle, thrillerbark or fishman isle (saying its skippable, filler or mid. it just goes to show that most One piece fans are crazy and have no idea what they're talking about) but clearly you're on a higher plane of existence ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Wow thank you so much for the support and for such a big comment! Reading this was a blast and I totally agree that Arlong's treatment of Nami was cruel but so strange and interesting in how he seemed to keep giving her praise in odd ways? I also can't wait to get to future arcs, I'll be starting on the Alabasta video soon!
I think the unsung hero of your videos is the editing. You havs a tremendous knack for it and it keeps your videos from being standard video essays and elevates them to something really special. You also have phenomenal timing for when to add in an extra layer of a joke in editing and it never feels poorly timed. I can not imagine a more loving deep dive into this incredible series than the ones you provide. Thank you!
One thing i love about Usopp in the East Blue Saga is the fact that you can already see him being a Jack of All Trades, he can cook, draw, craft and repair things, all of these skills reflect the childhood that Usopp had, he became an orphan almost one decade before Kuro attacked the Village and in that time, he had no one to take care of him, or at least someone familiar, so eventually he had to learn to cook for himself, not only that, but Usopp probably started talking to Kaya and formed the Usopp Pirates 2-3 years before the main events, but between him losing his mother and meeting Kaya, he probably had a lot of free time even after running everyday screaming for "Pirates", where i suspect he spent that time drawing, crafting and even making traps, that's why Usopp has so many skills related to create, because Usopp loves creating, and you can see that with most little actions from Him, i love Oda and his storywriting man, Oda is truly the GOAT.
Watching the intro to the Baratie section and it reminded me of what the “Drop the Pizza”channel points out in their theory presentations. When asked in an SBS what his definition of “Justice” is, Oda’s response was “Anpanman.” For those who don’t know, Anpanman is a children’s cartoon that’s been around forever in Japan and pretty much all Japanese people have watched/interacted with the franchise. The creator of Anpanman famously once described a scene he saw in the fallout of the nuclear weapons: two children sharing riceballs. He would go on to say something along the lines of “there is only one true justice in the world. No matter your beliefs or allies, sharing food with another is the only thing that will ever be an unquestionable justice.” Throughout the story, food is a very big driver of the plot and with the context from this one SBS, it starts to make sense that maybe Oda also believes the same. Sorry for the essay!
Knowing Tiger's story gives a bit of a new meaning to Arlong's line about "dying for foolish love", as of course he would see it that way, since what happened around Koala, and after even him was resigning himself to having her around for a moment. I think maybe Arlong was beginning to reluctantly believe Tiger in that the revenge againt humans would not be that necessary or just. Of course given his previous views, that would only set him back and get even deeper in his bitterness.
I'm rewatching the anime with my 11 year old twin girls. They're so obsessed with we are that they've been learning to play it on guitar and violin to play at an open mic night we go to twice a month
Hey MelonTeee! Just want to say thank you for all of your videos, they along with the live action are what really endeared me to the One Piece world. They have accompanied my year long journey of beginning and catching up on the anime. Your videos are a delight, not only eye-opening on story and lore but also incredibly entertaining! I also wanted to say something that I realized while watching this, though it's for way way down the line. The parallels of Bellmere refusing to say Nami and Nojiko aren't her children to save her own life, and Nami later refusing to say Luffy wouldn't be King of the Pirates in Wano to save her own as well really got to me. I've only ever seen people attribute that to Nami's loyalty to Luffy, and I think that's also true. But I think it's also important how it reflects how much Bellmere affected Nami even years later. There are so many of Bellmere's core values that I see in Nami, even if they go about it in their own ways, and I think that's lovely!
Thank you so much for the support, and you're absolutely right! Nami learned to live with her whole heart and self through Bellemere, she'd rather die otherwise. That's a connection I'll be sure to mention myself when getting to Wano with this series!
Man, I love One Piece. You said that Oda is cheesy and while that might be true, I think what makes it work so well is that he is so deeply sincere about it. The characters love each other so much and they get to express that love without shame or it being considered a weakness
Thank you so much for your contributions to the One Piece community, especially this long, magnificent essay of the East Blue arc! I'm one of the people who loved One Piece from the very first chapter, so I hold the East Blue saga very dear to my heart. Thanks for doing it justice with your spot on analysis and fun editing! I just love your videos so damn much! Please keep on making them, I can't wait for the rest of the arc dissection videos - especially Skypiea, LRLL and Fishman Island, arcs that imo are way too underappreciated in the fandom. And keep being this amazing, upbeat person full of love! Your love oozes through your videos and it seriously brightens my day everytime you upload anything. 🥰 P.S.: Don Krieg's name is pronunced "Don Creek", I had to chuckle each time you said "Don Craig" 😂
Thank you so much! This kind of support is why I can keep making these videos! I streamed the whole editing process and the chat kept laughing at me for how I pronounced Don Krieg, but it was too late 😭😭 I'm afraid he's Craig to me now HAHA
There's actually a bunch of people going through One Piece for the first time ( I just type "reading One Piece for the first time) and its great to hear other peoples perspective on the story and just makes it an overall great experience. I can't remember all the channels I follow off the top of my head but I highly recommend Drawk show and the series with his mom #MomPiece. Fair warning for those who aren't caught up but Mama Drawk figured a lot of stuff out early on. But as for MelonTeee she is definitely G.O.A.T. with her analysis videos. I love all of them.

I can’t believe that your move after covering every Strawhat is to do every ark. To drop a 2.5 hour video is a crazy move. I am over the moon happy about this. The way you describe One Piece reminds me exactly why I love this show. Your love for the show is speaken in the best words I have ever heard. Thank you for these videos. You’re gonna keep making these as long as Oda makes One Piece.
39:26 When zoro told king that "he made a promise to his captain and his "BEST FRIEND" man that made me cry and I have goosebumbs just typing that line. The monster trio are truly life changingly motivational characters, we don't call him Goda just like that!
Dude I hope you know that Zoro was referring to Kuina as "best friend" in that line, not to Luffy... I remember there were some mistranslations in the English community but if you read the Japanese there is no mistake he's talking about her
@@SR-kh6yq Oh shit! I didn't realize that, you're absolutely right brother, thanks for reminding me, it's just that Zoro's friendship with Luffy has grown so strong that I totaly forgot about Kuina lol XD
I’m just happy there’s other people that get the depths of these characters and arcs beyond just “rubber man punch good” or “sword daddy is buff” They are so deep and oda has crafter such beautiful characters. Also edit (you know I’m here for part 3: SANJ MY BOT ✨❤👀)
Zoro gives Nami a thumbs-down because he's physically exhausted. He's probably trying to give her a thumbs up but can't quite muster up the muscle to do so all the way. The reason why this touches Nami emotionally is because this is both him silently saying to her "I got your back" and also "I might look like hell, but I'm seeing this through to the end." This is punctuated by him telling Sanji that he can only do this for not even a full minute longer. Zoro's role in the final act of the Arlong Park saga is that he doesn't have to "win" his fights to "never lose." He can be an anchor even when he's suffering because he has the strength to carry his crew even in sickness. He can't give a proper thumbs up, but he sure as hell can prove he can the intention behind it. Considering that Zoro is also consistently the most critical of Nami's behavior (and interestingly, one of Nami's closest friends on the crew later in the story *wink wink* ) his constant iron-clad defense of her speaks wonders to how highly he thinks of her.
Maybe this is a hint about Zoro's terrible directions again. We know he's lost at this point, but we don't understand how outrageous it really is until everyone starts expressing their shock at Zoro disappearing from straight lines.
How I miss his interactions in the pre time skip, it was the funniest and most natural thing in the world as the two fought because they were too similar in certain aspects...
Only discovered your videos about a month ago, and I'm so glad I did. Such insightful, deep analysis of character, themes, world, etc etc. You're doing really great work, and it's really helped deepen my own love for this series
Bro, I'm not ready for the day we get the video on the final saga. Typing this while watching is already making me feel like the end is near. Anyway, time to get some popcorn.
Been following your content for a while now, and I'm happy to say that the depth and analytical quality of your content has blossomed, much like that of Oda himself :D In the age of short-form content, having a long-form written essay is as much a sign of bravado as it is of prime literary acumen. Greatly appreciated! Being an avid One Piece and psychology fan, I've always enjoyed reading more into the character depths than is usually presented on the surface. That being said, I'm so glad to have stumbled onto your content only to figure out multiple different facets of these characters, and how their backstories, or even seemingly trivial "chance" encounters build yet many more layers of emotional complexity over multiple decades of story telling. Just beautiful. So kudos on your great work, and helping me discover further why this amazing world of One Piece makes me feel the way it does 😊
Thank you so much for your support, you're very generous! I really appreciate these kind words as well, one piece is itching my brain like crazy and I'm so glad these videos are helping other people with that one piece itch too. I hope my future content will be just as enjoyable for you!
You are officially in my top 3 One Piece contributors list along with GLR and Merphy. I both adore and enjoy your analytical approach to this literal behemoth of a story. I also keep wondering how far ahead Oda really planned everything. Whenever I re-read the manga or re-watch videos like this I am constantly flabbergasted by the sheer amount of detail and foreshadowing Oda seemingly put into this. Looking forward to the next part.
Thank you so much! When I make these videos I also can't believe the fine details in the story, and I always wonder how much Oda has planned. It's a balance of "Am I reaching, or is this legitimate?" but I guess when it's a story about Luffy... you're allowed to reach and stretch it a bit HAHA
I found your channel yesterday, I don't even watch one piece, but your analysis of a seemingly shallow piece of media is so interesting and has even convinced me to give it a shot.
Oh my god. I can’t imagine anyone else describing the east blue arc in a better way than the way you do, thank you so much melonteee for making me cry, as I was watching, this made me think of all the people out there who think one piece is “overrated” and I think they really need to watch your videos. Usually I end up getting bored of video essays and I watch them at either 2x speed or just don’t finish them, but something about your videos makes me sad when they end, and you just really put me on an emotional rollercoaster, with the funny memes that make me wheeze, and those groundbreaking brain expanding parts that make me realize how much thought is put into One Piece and how much is put into your videos, thank you so much for making me appreciate one piece on a whole new level(and feeding my hyper-fixation), thank you for another great Sanji video :D
This was such an amazing video Mel!!! to watch the process of you making it to actually sitting down and seeing the final results I cant wait to see more to come!!!
Mel: “This is not a Sanji video” *Spends just under an hour talking about sanji’s introduction arc* But for real I love looking back on the East blue because of how simple but effective it was in setting up the main principles of one piece as a whole and because of MY MAN *SMOKER!!!!* 🎉🎉
Ha..! Love the cheeky smile when you switched to the Baratie, I swear I had the exact same grin at that point! Here comes the man!!!! There can never be enough Sanji videos
I'm coming to truly Treasure One Piece and could Listen to you talk for hours. If this channel is your treasure, then I hope this helps. Have a Beautiful holiday. ❤
My goodness thank you so much, I'm not sure what to say! I'm so grateful for this kind of support, I hope I can continue to make content that you enjoy!! ❤️❤️❤️ Thank you so so much I really appreciate it more than anything ❤️
Sweet, did a quick refresh hoping to find something to watch while doing laundry. Two and a half hours of evaluating the East Blue arc will absolutely work.
I think I agree. Baratie really is the first "Core One Piece" arc. Arlong Park is too to some degree, but I really think Luffy vs Krieg and Zoro vs Mihawk really sets the formula we see for the rest of the story.
You really do make me appreciate something i already love even more. You're perspective and delivery is really so valuable, but the value is like joy and the basic human pleasure of storytelling
This had me enthralled from start to finish way more than any movie I've seen in recent years. Thank you so much for putting in the time and effort required to create this, it is deeply appreciated. GOD I love One Piece.
@MelonTeee I discovered your channel after seeing the collab video you did with Mugiwara no Goofy and I'm so glad that I did! Your content is excellent and so insightful. Luffy is my favorite character with Zoro, Sanji and Robin fighting for the #2 and #3 spots. My choices honestly shift from moment to moment because I really enjoy their individual characterizations as well as the dynamic they each have with Luffy. All three of them can be critical of Luffy 1-minute and then turn around and prove they are just as crazy as Luffy in the same breath. Robin thinking Punk Hazard looks fun and Sanji wandering off on Dressrosa during Law's planning meeting are some of my favs. No matter how much Usopp and Law complain, we know it's not just Luffy. 😂 Anyway, back to the video. Your reference to the All Blue in this video made me wonder. What if part of the reason that Sanji picked the All Blue as his dream stemmed back to his history with Judge? We know Germa is one of the very few who can travel to every single blue, but the All Blue is not one of those places because no one has found it. That would sound like heaven to child Sanji. I also think its interesting that Sanji has expressed an interest in two other dreams: the Clear Clear fruit and going to Fishman Island to be with the mermaids. Although those two are said to be for peverse reasons, all three dreams have the ability to put Sanji out of Judge's reach because we know Germa travels over the Red Line on snails, they dont go under it.
Hello! Thank you so much for the support! I totally understand jumping between favourite Strawhats, it happens to me all the time! 😭 And wow you're so correct with Sanji's dreams, they all seem to keep him out of reach from the real world, a literal fantasy he can escape into without the threat of Judge or his past weighing him down. That's a fantastic observation and I'll be sure to think more on that! Again, thank you so much for the support, and I'm really glad you like the content!!! 🫶🫶
Your videos cover some of the emotional depth that few others seem to even notice in one piece. Many people ignore that part of the show if it's not given to them in a flashback, so I'm excited to go through the series again along side you.
I would say an amazing video as always, but you've really knocked it out of the park with your analysis and care when looking back. I am excited for the future of this new series of videos, not only into what makes these arcs so great but also how they play into everything going forward. As for East Blue, you pretty much sum it all up what makes it such an amazing start. Thinking about how everything started it's almost amazing how much Oda builds on it in the arc after. Thinking about how much more independent Sanji is after tying himself to the Baratie for so long, realizing things won't fall apart if he's gone. How Nami's gag of leaving to go back home after finding out about Mr. 0's identity, is not only hilarious, but also shows that part of Nami's life is in her still where she could easily abandon a score if got too dangerous. Luffy's lesson from Vivi about how there are more ways to put your life on the line than just fighting, and so much more. Wish you the best!
I can’t express how excited I am that you’re doing an analysis of the whole series. You’re video essays are the best One Piece content on yt and I know this series is gonna keep that quality, heart and soul. Everytime I watch you I learn something new and I didn’t even think that was possible after re-reading the full series about 9 times. Please keep doing what you’re doing, because you’re amazing at it!
I feel like it says something about Buggy that it puts a smile on my face every time he shows up, and every time you play whatever that sound he's making whenever he shows up makes me start chuckling
He really is the greatest. For me at least he went from being a nuisance to becoming a character I am willing to die for (Mel only this worse in like the best way). So the point is I get it and I can’t wait for Mel to talk about buggy some more.
Only about halfway through but your video essays always enthrall me. They inspire me to read with a more critical eye (not jusr with one piece!) and to reread to go look back at all the stuff I missed before
I gotta say I really love the evolution of your channel. I remember randomly stumbling onto one of your Tuca and Birdie video like 5 years ago now and keep coming back to your interesting takes and you really scratch the One Piece itch I've been having since my own returning back to the series during the pandemic. I love this world a lot and it's fun to hear someone break down so much of this series past the surface level of wacky fights and weird looking characters
Your insight, understanding and love for One Piece are all incredible. Watching your videos feels like taking a master class on one piece, character writing, and so much more. Thankful for all your videos so far and excited for more :)

Is this really Viz's official translation that you're using? As a Japanese speaker, please be aware that this translation you're showing is full of so many silly mistakes, and it's sad that your analysis is heavily influenced by it. Here are some examples since I have my Japanese copy of volume 11 at hand: - 2:06 No, Zoro doesn't say "I guess female swordsmen DO exist" WTF, why would Kuina's best friend say this?? He says 似すぎだぜくいなに しかもよりによって“刀”使いの剣士…!! いるもんだな世の中には "She looks way too much like Kuina... And to top it off, she uses a katana...!! There really are people like that in this world...!" He's surprised that there are people who can look like alike, not that a woman is using a katana ffs! - 2:07 Nope, Zoro doesn't say he was weak either lmao. Yeah you can argue that Tashigi is his his only weakness like Oda said, but he's not saying this here... He just says びびった, meaning "I was shocked, startled". In no universe びびった means "I was weak". I only have time to look at these pages from volume 11 but I can't imagine how many other mistakes there must be...
Thank you I will jot this down to mention for my next video, these are Viz's official translations from the start because the first one piece chapters are unfortunately the result of weird American localisation in the early to mid 2000s. I don't speak Japanese and I can't exactly ask my Japanese friends to go over every single page with me as they have lives they must attend to lol. Like I said, thank you for pointing this out and I'll note it for my next deep dive. It's unfortunate the first translation of the manga is all us eng speakers have but one or two translation problems aside, I don't believe it makes this video mean any less.
I'm also Japanese and it hurts me when wonderful minds spend time analysing One Piece but there's a translation error that throws them off. But I guess misinformation is a core of One Piece😢
Watching English speakers make in-depth analysis of One Piece based on this shitty translation is like watching a chef trying to cook with long-expired ingredients, I'm sorry... I think you should ask a Japanese speaker to check it beforehand
Every time I watch your videos, it's like I'm hit with a new bombshell of information and I absolutely LOVE IT! Thank you for creating such insightful, funny and amazing content. I look forward to showing your fantastic videos to my friends as they get caught up, and I hope you keep making more!
I really enjoy the way you talk about the evolution of Oda's character writing/dialog. Looking back on Zoro's lines during his intro and the times where a character blatantly states the point(tm) show how far Oda has progressed in that regard. Also love the focus you put on way the Straw Hats are all outcasts or struggle to fit in/won't be able to achieve their dreams while staying where they are from, and even though they apart from the people they have connections to outside of the crew, leaving doesn't mean they love them any less

When MelonTeee retold Nami’s story and about Bell-mére’s sacrifice, I couldn’t stop thinking about how much it parallels to Law’s own story and his relationship with Corazon.

Thank you!
ABSOLUTELY agree
Baratie (aka sanji’s part) being the longest section is so on brand for this channel. Sanji truly is Oda’s masterpiece character.
Zoro and Mihawk were the best parts of that arc
The symbolism behind the epithet of the Strawhats representing Luffy's treasure (his actual Strawhat) is such a great point!
I've been in the ER listening to your videos to calm me, this new release almost makes me cry with the relief it will help give me
I'm sorry for your situation! I hope this video helped calm you down during a hard time 🫶
Watching the intro to the Baratie section and it reminded me of what the “Drop the Pizza”channel points out in their theory presentations.
No matter your beliefs or allies, sharing food with another is the only thing that will ever be an unquestionable justice.”
Throughout the story, food is a very big driver of the plot and with the context from this one SBS, it starts to make sense that maybe Oda also believes the same. Sorry for the essay!
Well that got dark, but it's so real
MelonTeee One Piece video essays are my favorite thing on Earth. I, too, am vibrating with excitement at this very moment. I love you.
Idk why but when Sanji tells Luffy about the all blue it felt so wholesome/nostalgic. Like a kid sharing his favorite spot with his friend
His smile was beautiful. His whole face transformed from a bratty asshole to a bright eyed child.

P.S.: Don Krieg's name is pronunced "Don Creek", I had to chuckle each time you said "Don Craig" 😂
Thank you so much! This kind of support is why I can keep making these videos! I streamed the whole editing process and the chat kept laughing at me for how I pronounced Don Krieg, but it was too late 😭😭 I'm afraid he's Craig to me now HAHA

I’ve been waiting forever for this. I barely about hear East Blue talked about anymore. It’s always Egghead or Wano. Thanks MelonTeee!
I'm waiting for the Davy Back fight to come back. I simply do not believe it is just a haha pirate prank. I will not be had!

Also edit (you know I’m here for part 3: SANJ MY BOT ✨❤👀)
2 and a half hour MelonTee video wow we’re blessed

Been following your content for a while now, and I'm happy to say that the depth and analytical quality of your content has blossomed, much like that of Oda himself :D
In the age of short-form content, having a long-form written essay is as much a sign of bravado as it is of prime literary acumen.
Dude I'm so saving this for my intense cleaning sesh tomorrow.
I found your channel yesterday, I don't even watch one piece, but your analysis of a seemingly shallow piece of media is so interesting and has even convinced me to give it a shot.
what makes you think one peice is shallow

Sweet, did a quick refresh hoping to find something to watch while doing laundry. Two and a half hours of evaluating the East Blue arc will absolutely work.
That's a lot of laundry
I think I agree. Baratie really is the first "Core One Piece" arc. Arlong Park is too to some degree, but I really think Luffy vs Krieg and Zoro vs Mihawk really sets the formula we see for the rest of the story.
Thanks for making the case for Johnny and Yasiku and giving them better context within the story. They always just felt like extras/plot devices.
Anyway, back to the video.
Ah yes the perfect video to watch at 1AM

Is this really Viz's official translation that you're using? As a Japanese speaker, please be aware that this translation you're showing is full of so many silly mistakes, and it's sad that your analysis is heavily influenced by it. Here are some examples since I have my Japanese copy of volume 11 at hand:
- 2:06 No, Zoro doesn't say "I guess female swordsmen DO exist" WTF, why would Kuina's best friend say this??
Thanks! Fantastic Video! Worth the wait, saves me the effort of rewatching all the episodes again 😂
Thank you so much! I'm glad you love it but don't skip out on reading One Piece from time to time as well 🥹 it's one of life's many joys lmao
