Hey melonteee, I wanted to say I love you’re videos, they give me more depth to the one piece characters and your videos help me understand the one piece characters and world better, even though there’s already a lot of detail.
My favorite thing about brook is that he is hyper competent in literally everything he does. He plays every instrument, he became a rockstar in two years, he robbed big mom in her sleep and he’s a master swordsman. I think it’s incredibly funny this guy sailed at the same time Rodger did and has all the experience a guy like that would need and then only uses it like 30% of the time just because his “job” is just to play music and tell bone jokes
brooks “im glad to be alive!” is one of my favorite moments in the entire series. to see a character who holds such guilt for the second chance he has, to finally be able to embrace it and yell from his heart that he is so happy to be alive really really gets to me
One of Brook's more powerful lines, to me, are in Fishman Ilsand, when Zeo is talking about the fodder dying for the cause leaving hatred behind, and as he cuts him, he says "what do you know about death? You have never died before". Brook is such a great character.
It's worth mentioning that, even if they never directly confront eachother, Moriah and Brook are incredible foils. Moriah let his crew's death break him down and he hardly tries anymore, making others work for him, while Brook takes everything onto himself to accomplish, to the point of even pushing others away at first. He was suicidal during his confinement to the Florian Triangle, but his IMMENSE joie de vivre still shone through. The strength of Brook's soul is breathtakingly beautiful. Brook is a reminder to keep pushing to tomorrow, to keep pushing toward the unlikely future where everything is OK, and what was lost was worthwhile.
moriah yeah i though so too, both were captain who went through the same thing the difference was that for all his issues brook tries to move foward while moriah can't do it
moriah also went out of his way to make sure none of his crew is going to die on him again. like he had an invisible man, who could dip when shit went south, a ghost girl who can leave her real body behind out of harms way, along with the greatest surgeon in the world for if they do get injured, and a immortal army of zombies.
So many other shows, not just anime, put characters on a shelf and rarely touch them after they had their moment of character development. One Piece constantly rewards you for investing in its characters, even if it's a hardboiled middle-aged man dressed like a baby.
If you remove any of the straw hats the dynamic changes completely, I find myself missing the members who aren’t there in arcs where they have to split up and wondering how they would react if they were there.
I never realized Brook didn't play music in those 50 years. 😭 Another favourite from Thriller Bark was his attachement to his signature afro, being protectful of it because Laboon might not recognize him without it.
The story of how Bink's Sake was made is pretty interesting. Oda told Kohei Tanaka, the composer, to work on the piece way back when he was designing Brook. It wasn't until 5 years after the song was completed that it would be premiered. Tanaka himself stated that the song was a mix between carefree and sad, which reflects Brook's character. One thing I love about One Piece's music is that each character has their own theme, which reflects their personality. For example, Luffy has this trumpet theme. Trumpets are mostly instruments who have the melody and lead the ensemble, kind of how Luffy leads the crew in a bright and optimistic way. Zoro's theme is the most traditional, with the use of timpanis and other japanese instruments, such as the koto. Nami, Chopper, and Usopp's theme are very light. Sanji's, Robin's (and possibly Franky's) theme is in a style of jazz. This could reflect their cunning yet unpredictable nature. Even freakin' Doflamingo gets his own theme with electronic music, which is so goofy yet terrifying. And then we get to Brook's theme, and of course it's Bink's Booze but in a different key, followed with strings and winds. And then there's a Trombone solo. Get it? Trom-BONE? I think you get the point of this theme. Anyway, just wanted to gush about Tanaka's music because I think he deserves more love and I am a music nerd. He really makes the anime stand out and is one of the reasons why I continue watching it.
I remember Brook's reaction to Pedro's sacrifice being so painful. Pedro being another old soul; and one that Brook really started to bond with, was rough.
I found it interesting how similar his reaction to Pedro’s death was to Luffy’s reaction to Ace’s. Not only that, but Jimbei was the one who brought both of them back to their senses.
Brook in Wano… he made my heart melt. He saw what he had hallucinated for YEARS on that ship in the Florian Triangle, he saw his crew and his greatest dream and duty to the Rumbar Pirates. Yet because of his love for the Straw Hats and the fire for life they stoked in his heart, he found the resolve to cut through the lies of the illusion. And his dynamic with Robin, and their trust in one another is… the ICING on the cake that is their fight.
My favorite scene in Thriller Bark, even more so than nothing happened, was Luffy and Brook's conversation during the party. It did such a great job forging such a special relationship across generations and instantly solidified Brook as one of my favorite Straw Hats.
Even though he is criminally underrated and not brought up as others when it comes to discussions, I think it shows just how amazing of a support player Brooke is and why his role in the crew is so important. He is the reason why the key players are able to shine so bright, because only someone like him can hold them up.
Brooks laugh at Sanji with Duval, it was one of the most uninhibited pure displays of joy Iv seen in this show and caught me off guard so much my wife and I laughed with him. I loved brook when he was introduced and I think him reuniting with Laboon and telling him the story of the Straw Hats is 100% how the series needs to end, the end of his quest is the perfect cap stone for the story to me. LOVEING these character deep dives!!
I’ve always liked that because Brook is so much older than the rest of the crew, his perspective on things is so different. Like he’s the only one on the crew to have grown up and lived in a completely different era. By the time Roger was executed as the pirate king, Brook had already been dead for 30 years. We know that when Brook was sailing Roger was just an up and coming rookie. What we know of Brooks backstory starts when he’s already in his late thirties, so there’s a lot of stuff that he could know about that happened when he was younger. He’s just such an interesting character
Brook screaming and declaring, "I'm so glad to be alive" really ties back to when Saul told Robin to live and that no one on the seas are born to be alone. You'll find kind people some day (reiju told this to Sanji as well) and MAN did they find the kindest people. Ah!! I love the strawhats so much❤❤
Brook's "I'm glad to be alive" line coming after Robin's absolutely iconic "I want to live, take me to the sea with you" line really ties together your point. Luffy and the Straw Hats reinvigorate everyone they come across. Their wills to live only grow with Luffy's continued presence in their life. I think that's why I really love Big Mom's soul pocus, too, because she's a foil to Luffy and Brook's fight against her is so awesome. (Also the moment he asked to see her panties, I lost it.)
When Brook first appeared in the manga, I was like "No WAY Oda´ll let this guy join the crew, he´s just too rad/weird". He´s still my favorite today. Thanks for covering him, Mel, I´ve been waiting for this
I couldn't watch Brook's backstory for ages after the first time I always ended up a weeping mess. What always gets me though is that, as Rumbar Pirates slowly succumb to the poison Brook would've been able to figure out who had stopped singing and thus who had just died, one by one. In the anime at least you can see the moment it sinks in for him as he realises he'll be the last one to go.
I am really glad that Zoro was the one to make the sacrifice instead of Sanji. Everyone on the crew serves a purpose, even Usopp. Zoro is primarily the muscle of the crew. If he didnt take responsibility there, its something he cant recover from. I feel both sad and happy for Brook when he is being inappropriate. He has lost his mind a bit yes, but all those years of being lonely and weird, he kept making jokes but no one reacted to them. He thrives on that reaction now. If people laugh, beat him up, or anything else, he gets to confirm that its real, not hallucination You mentioned a good thing about strength. I didnt even notice that he never played music while he was alone. For crazy amount of years, even when he wanted his shadow back, he didnt achieve a whole lot, but during timeskip, in just 2 years he was on a whole another level. He did it for Luffy and the crew
You missed an important line that provided context for why he joined the crew. In chapter 596 when Brook is reminiscing about his meeting with Luffy and forming his resolve to train for the crew, he says: But you weren't afraid of me. You even asked me to join you. Do you have any idea how much joy that brought me? Especially after wander that dark sea for 50 years... You seemed so bright in my eyes. Those 50 years I spent doing but praying for a miracle... That moment made up for it all.
i know the canonicity of it is debatable but I also like how Film RED retroactively adds more context to Luffy's seemingly odd desire for a musician since his best friend on the Red Haired Pirate's crew was their musician.
Brook’s backstory nearly got me crying, but what really drove me to tears was him screaming that he was happy to be alive. there aren’t many other series that can pull something like that off.
@@cloudlet5487 when he was talking with Franky and Robin, he said that dying isnt good enought of a reason to break their promise to laboon, what a man
I find that when I watch sad scenes or deaths in shows, I don’t cry at the actual death itself but instead at the reminiscing of those surrounding that person, like when *SPOILERS FOR MARINEFORD* Ace is preparing to be executed, I cried the most not at the end of it all with Luffy but instead with the memories that Garp is looking back on as he stays with Ace as long as he can I think this may be a reason why Brook’s backstory is my favourite, its less about a tragedy that has happened and more about the aftermath being a person who remembers it
Thanks Melon! You always create eloquent, emotionally intelligent, charming, and funny videos. You find the perfect words to describe how I and many others feel about this masterpiece. Brook has always been one of my favorite strawhats, hes the wacky grandpa thats a little outta line, but is always the life of the party despite his awfully traumatic past. He's already lived( and died yohohoho) through his absolute worst moments. Its why i love his addition shortly after franky!
I’m so glad that people appreciate not only how great Brook is but also his voice actor’s performance. Cho is definitely my favorite voice actor among all of Onepiece cast. I cry every time to the “I am so glad I’m alive!!!” scene
When it comes to skeletons, bards, bros, and fros, Brook is the GOAT. I'd feel ridiculously lucky to have a friend as loyal and heart warming as him, and I strive to love my friends as much as he does. Best old man in anime for sure.
Even tho Brook being the last one to die was a tragedy for him, I also think it's sweet that he hold on so long for his crewmates. Every single one of them passed on being able to hear Brook playing one last time
Brook is one of my favorite characters, mostly because he was the reason that I finally decided to watch One Piece, one of my favorite RUclipsrs made a cover of Bink’s brew, and I liked, so I decided to hear it, the amount of emotions that is on that song, without even knowing the context is amazing. The moment I got to Brooks solo in the song, I literally was like “Well, time to hyper fixated myself with this show” and goddamn I did
Thanks for bringing up the fact that despite how he handles himself he is still (at least partially) insane brought on from decades of solitude. You'd be surprised how often people just ignore that. Also the scene in Wano between him and Robin when talking about hallucinations/illusions and how he's immune to them because he suffered from them every day was one of my favourite parts of Wano
A very underrated Brook moment was his all too appropriate reaction to Duval looking like Sanji's infamous pre-timeskip bounty poster. Moments like this get me every time. XD
I teared up the first time I saw Brook's backstory years ago but every time I've seen it since I missed the point that you made that Brook didn't play music when he was alone on the Rumbar pirates' ship. Now I'm tearing up at it all over again. Love your videos, you do a great job of shining a light on aspects of the story like this and you force me to feel all the emotions for fictional pirates. Please make more.
Drifting alone in the sea for 50 years you wonder how Brook hasn't gone completely nuts beyond saving, but then you find out about Laboon and this unbelievable callback to the start of the Grand Line just makes your jaw drop to the floor and tears stream down your face. Also Brook's VA is just the most perfect fit. The song about Nekomamushi is a song Chō sang for his real cat who was called Nekomamushi. His cat was also the inspiration for Oda to create Nekomamushi.
Experiencing a fate worse than death like being forced into solitude for decades surrounded by your dead past is terrifying to me and that’s why brook fascinates me
it's hard to imagine a personal hell much worse than brook's backstory for me. aimlessly wandering the empty seas with nobody to talk to or interact with, nothing to look forward to, on a ship full of all your now dead friends.
And if the story is heading where I think it is eventually, Nami, Robin, and Vivi the Strawhat Ladies. Hey its all but official, even more so as of recent chapters.
Brook is a member of the crew I really wish got more screen time. He’s definitely one of my favorites and he absolutely got to shine through the Whole Cake Island arc. Like seriously, Brook was no doubt the MVP of that arc. His introduction, coming hot off the heals of the amazing Water 7 arc, didn’t disappoint and his backstory and his “I’m so happy to be alive” moment are one of the few times in One Pieces story that actually got me teary eyed just watching. Definitely a wonderful character whose voice actor is capable of depicting both his silly side and serious side perfectly.
One piece is definitely about recovering from pretty terrible pasts and even presents, moving forwards to something wonderful, and I think old Brook exemplifies that wonderfully. Despite all the pain he went through, he's still here living, and living a life he loves.
Each year that passes makes me appreciate Brook more and more. There is something so serene about his whole vibe. He is a man who knows death better than probably anyone in the world of One Piece. He was stranded alone for 50 years on a sunless sea, surrounded by rotting corpses. But he never gave up, because more than anyone else, he understood the value of life. Even in the darkest of time, there is hope for tomorrow.
Brooks backstory still is one of the saddest ive seen in one piece or in any anime in general. I swear that scene where he plays the piano and exclaims how happy he is to be alive is such a beautiful and well crafted moment. I cried the first time I watched it and I still do tear up when i see it. Deff one of my favorite straw hats
My favourite strawhat. He's not the strongest, but not weak, he's brave when he has to and fun when he's himself, he loves his second life and I can't wait for him to meet laboon
Brook always manages to make me laugh. I love the skeleton jokes he makes, and his new skill removing his soul from his body, looking like a ghost. It’s easy to forget he’s the oldest member on the crew and possible one of the oldest characters we’ve seen. His generation I think was before roger. The fact that everyday he wakes up and he’s part of a family again probably fills him with such joy is so sweet.
Reading brooks backstory and seeing how well oda ties every aspect of his character around life and music, easily solidified him as my favorite character in manga.
Brook is one of my biggest motivations for overcoming depression, seeing someone so devastated meet the right people and being grateful for life because all the efforts paid off at the end was what I needed to start fighting back
So now we just need a Jinbei video before the Luffy video. Very excited for what is to come! Absolutely love your content. Helps bring more insights to stuff I just thought on a basic level. It’s also a great way to reminisce the old arcs
For a very long time my favorite Straw Hat was Sanji, and he's still incredibly important to me. But eventually I noticed that whenever Brook was on screen or when I was reading about him, I found myself with so many more powerful emotions. As someone who struggles with depression, watching Brook always resonates with me. The way he constantly defers to jokes, how protective and empathetic he is towards others and how hard he drives himself to be useful really gets to me. Brook constantly does his absolute best, not for his own sake, but to help those around him. His story is heartbreaking and inspiring at the same time. I've always viewed him as a kind of Whitebeard, someone who knows their story is over and is dead (yohohoho!) set on getting the next generation to where they need to be. The fact that he is a bard character, a support fighter, even though he was once a leader of a battle convoy, shows how much faith he has in his crew. This was a fantastic video, thank you for doing him justice!
I love your videos and cannot wait for Jimbei's own. Brook is such a special character to me and this highlighted so many things i have thought about his character so perfectly. thank you for making my skin shiver, IF I HAD ANY YO-HO-HO-HO-HO
On multiple occasions I’ve gushed to my friends about how good of a character Brook is. I’ve nearly cried multiple times talking about his backstory. His character is so save some because despite being dead and having possibly the most tragic backstory in the crew, he is still making jokes all the time and he has fun with his new crew. He is the exact opposer of what you’d expect the personality of a dead person to be. He is my favorite
I've never watched One Piece in my life (and honestly never will, sorry), but the one thing i remember hearing a long time ago is a brief explanation of Brooks backstory. But after watching this video, there were few times that not only i felt emotional, but almost made me tear up. I feel so sorry for the guy and if i had a chance i would give him a hug. A skeletal yet warm hug
The “Why is the accompaniment the last to go” is so sad, but the one that broke me even more was right before, as he’s watching his crew go down one by one, and in response goes “It’s now a quartet… a trio… a duo… a solo” I didn’t pay much attention to things when I watched one piece, but you going over things like this made his “I’m so happy to be alive!” so much more meaningful to me
Luffy immediately asking Brook to join, and the reaction Sanji and Nami have to that, will always be one of my very favourite moments in One Piece. Makes me smile to think about it.
One thing that I’ve always loved about brook is that is his ongoing gag about lacking human components can be perceived to reveal a great deal about who he is as a character. ( “It’s pretty cold outside, my SKINS FEELING chilly. Not that I have skin. Yo ho..) Jokes such as these prove that he is very much alive and that he can feel and experience life. But because of his past with regard to losing his crew mates and inability to reunite with laboon he is mentally incapable of doing so. His second chance at life is casted away with the sole purpose of fulfilling his and his crew mates promise to a distant friend. Creating a very grave and lonely existence that he himself does not consider life. It’s not until he meets the straw hats that he’s able to overcome his guilt and proclaim he’s glad to be alive and realize that despite not having skin he can feel, and that despite his somber past he can enjoy his existence.
I remember watching Thriller Bark for the first time and completely breaking down in tears during Brook’s flashback. His backstory, much like Chopper’s, hit me real hard, I still can’t possibly comprehend how it would feel to spend 50 years in complete loneliness after losing your family.
I was having a very bad evening, but this video absolutely raised my mood. Thank you so much! ;A; Brook is very much my confort character. I am not sure myself why, but I love him immensely. He is just so warm and loud, but firm in his beliefs and decisions, though a little awkward too. I wish i could be his friend irl. Also my favorite moments with him are every time he reminds us that he is 90 years old already. Like the time he remembered Roger being the newcomer or the time he called Big Mom "young lady". Also very curious about his past as a convoy before he became a pirate.
In a vast sea of One Piece analysis/essay videos, I really enjoy your work a lot. You have a style and eloquence that is charming, and your videos overall feel soulful and engaging. Thanks for all that you do :)
I think the dynamic between robin and brook is so cool because luffy gave both of them a reason to live. To genuinely keep going in enjoying their lives
on my way to work and saw this uploaded, so happy rn, I've been waiting for this one. brook was the character I got to know first before I knew anything about one piece, I have a major soft spot for this fabulous grandpa
Brook is a character I instantly identified with. From his design to how he can crack a joke at his own expense overcoming his tragic past and loneliness. Every time he makes us laugh, it may be a reminder of the burden he carried for so long, but he got through that with sheer commitment to his promise and to not disappoint his crewmates memories. Such a loyal character.
Brook is the sole reason I watched one peice. I knew nothing about the anime but I kept seeing this bone grandpa EVERYWHERE and I just loved him. He's cooky and weird and I love him sm
I love that Brook outside of all his incredible feats and the things he offers the crew, his sheer concept alone makes him incredible to me. Like.... Hes Literally a dead man whose goal is to tell a tale to his old friend. It feels like Oda heard the old Pirate adage Dead men tell no tale and was like, "aight, bet."
Thanks for another great video! Brook is my second favorite character (with Sanji being the first). One scene that I really loved, though it was created for the anime, was his reaction to "seeing" his former crewmates during Wano. Had it happenned in another story, maybe it would had been a "oh, yeah, I've already left that behind". But in OP, it was "it hurts, it still hurts A LOT, but that won't stop me". He is part of a new and wonderful family that makes him happy, but moving on doesn't mean it won't hurt to remember those he loved. And Cho's delivery in that scene was awesome.
24:40 SO CUZ IM ACTUALLY TYPING THROUGH TEARS RN AT THIS REVALATION- BROOK WAS THE LAST TO DIE, WHICH MEANS HE COULD HEAR EACH INDIVIDUAL INTRUMENT STOPPING ONE BY ONE, KNOWING EXACTLY WHO IT WAS WHO JUST DIED WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING BECAUSE HE KNEW WHO PLAYED THAT INTRUMENT, AND HE PLAYED UNTIL IT WAS JUST HIS PIANO. ODA, WHAT IN THE ACTUAL HELL, MAN????? ODA COOKED BUT HE USED TO MANY FUCKIN ONIONS MANNNN- i'd also like to add that i love the dynamic robin and brook have because its 30 something year old that is obsessed with ancient history 90 year old that is a literal pop star with canonical fan girls. 30 something year old with a tough and morbid exterior, and internally its just "hehe, kitties :3" 90 year old who externally is "silly goober :P" and internally is "where tf does all that trauma go, i mean you literally dont even have a brain"
I watched the Thriller Bark arc around what I think was the lowest lowpoint in my college years, whwre I had trouble with my mental health loneliness and just keeping friends around. Then comes a silly big skeleton whos been longer lonely and isolated than alive, and then breaks from his own loneliness by coming to terms of his life and being glad he was still alive. I wouldnt have been here if I didnt see him and think to myself "theres more and better things to come". To this day he is one of my top faves in the series and if I ever catch myself in a bad funk, singing Binks sake will always get me feeling better
Your point about Brooke not playing any instrument while he is lonely hit close to home. I am a musician, i have a whole room in my house with many guitars, basses, a full drum kit, electric piano, viola, ocarinas, ukuleles etc but i often only pick up and play instruments with my friends as a fun activity. We write songs for fun, and play and sing for fun. When by myself, unless i force myself to practice or i have a sudden inspiration for song i typically leave my instruments alone. Music is truly a group activity. I see it as fun and integrated as any sport or conversation with another human. If I'm gonna play guitar, bass or drums etc with you it is as valuable as having a conversation, playing a game or enjoying a meal
this came at a really good time I just finished rewatching thriller bark and god I keep forgetting how Binks Sake get's to me, and was craving more content on this skeleton man.
Brook is my favorite character in the series. I first saw him playing Pirate Warriors 1 while still catching up on the series. Then I saw Franky and Brook. When I saw Brook, I literally said "Is that, a skeleton with an afro wearing a top hat? That's awesome!", and it was love at first sight. His mannerisms, his fighting style, his laugh, and his backstory. I know there are much worse backstories, but Brook's hit me so hard. I love everything about Bone Daddy, and will never stop simping for him
Brook’s backstory is the one thing that brought me back to one piece. I watched it up to Alabasta with my siblings on and off and fell out of it, but saw the rumbar death scene separately at some point and and was like “that was so heavy…. I should watch one piece”

The fact that Oda makes it so hard to choose a favorite Straw Hat (after Luffy) is an incredible feat of writing prowess

As both a One Piece and Sakura Wars fan, Tanaka's name will forever hold respect wherever I go
Yea that's insane that oda wrote a song 5 years before it would ever even be used and had someone compose it too. Hes just years ahead in the story
I remember Brook's reaction to Pedro's sacrifice being so painful. Pedro being another old soul; and one that Brook really started to bond with, was rough.
I found it interesting how similar his reaction to Pedro’s death was to Luffy’s reaction to Ace’s. Not only that, but Jimbei was the one who brought both of them back to their senses.

one of my favourite brook moments is when he was talking about Roger, the most legendary pirate, as just yea he might have existed
Calling Big Mom "young lady"
a young upstart or something like that.
Oh yeah that Rookie He heared of sometime ago.
Mh~ *keeps eating with No Care*
To be fair, God Valley hadn't happened yet. Roger was starting to make a name for himself at that time. He wasn't one of the big greats yet.
I also loved when Brook asked if he can still join the SH and Luffy said "yeah" 😂
Ever since Whole Cake Island, every single time Brook is on screen I feel compelled to shout “MVP!” He’s done so much for the crew its crazy
he leaves his heart for them... or he would do it if he had one YOHOHOHO
Even though he is criminally underrated and not brought up as others when it comes to discussions, I think it shows just how amazing of a support player Brooke is and why his role in the crew is so important. He is the reason why the key players are able to shine so bright, because only someone like him can hold them up.
He truly is the ultimate accompaniment. Which is why it's so much sadder that he was left on his own for so long, because he is, at heart, a support.
amen, brother in arms. amen.
I know Brook works very well as a support player, but damn if it isn't cool when he gets to shine on his own.
Jesus just even just imagining Laboon with Brook as the ending hurts
YES i love Brook he was the MVP of whole cake island
*cassually open his skull to grab ponegliph copy in front of everyone*
MVB. Most valuable bones
10 toes down for his crew for real
I’ve always liked that because Brook is so much older than the rest of the crew, his perspective on things is so different. Like he’s the only one on the crew to have grown up and lived in a completely different era. By the time Roger was executed as the pirate king, Brook had already been dead for 30 years. We know that when Brook was sailing Roger was just an up and coming rookie. What we know of Brooks backstory starts when he’s already in his late thirties, so there’s a lot of stuff that he could know about that happened when he was younger. He’s just such an interesting character
It’s only 2am and my day is made
It's 1:39am here
so close!

4am here
Brook screaming and declaring, "I'm so glad to be alive" really ties back to when Saul told Robin to live and that no one on the seas are born to be alone.
Thanks for covering him, Mel, I´ve been waiting for this
After his back story i cried my eyes out. THAT IS IF I HAD ANY EYES YOHOHOHO!
W skeleton joke
W
SKULL JOOOOOOOOKE!!!
I love how everyone is making the same jokes 💀
Bone Daddy would be proud.
yohohoho....good one 😂
I couldn't watch Brook's backstory for ages after the first time I always ended up a weeping mess.
What always gets me though is that, as Rumbar Pirates slowly succumb to the poison Brook would've been able to figure out who had stopped singing and thus who had just died, one by one. In the anime at least you can see the moment it sinks in for him as he realises he'll be the last one to go.
I did cry a little. But I recall feeling this stone sink in my gut. Cause how many sailors have died in a similar manner over the ages?
I am really glad that Zoro was the one to make the sacrifice instead of Sanji. Everyone on the crew serves a purpose, even Usopp. Zoro is primarily the muscle of the crew. If he didnt take responsibility there, its something he cant recover from.
I feel both sad and happy for Brook when he is being inappropriate. He has lost his mind a bit yes, but all those years of being lonely and weird, he kept making jokes but no one reacted to them. He thrives on that reaction now. If people laugh, beat him up, or anything else, he gets to confirm that its real, not hallucination
You mentioned a good thing about strength.
In chapter 596 when Brook is reminiscing about his meeting with Luffy and forming his resolve to train for the crew, he says:
But you weren't afraid of me.
The events aren't canon but the characters are
Brook’s backstory nearly got me crying, but what really drove me to tears was him screaming that he was happy to be alive. there aren’t many other series that can pull something like that off.
Brook saying, "i am sorry we died could never cut it" is one of the best momment in ANIME history
when it was???
@@cloudlet5487 when he was talking with Franky and Robin, he said that dying isnt good enought of a reason to break their promise to laboon, what a man
"He may be meatless, but he's certainly not boneless"
-MelonTeee
That was priceless to me 👌
Mr. Yohoho finally gets his chance in the spotlight
You could say He was... Bone For this x3
@@mariaevens8969 get out..

I can only imagine Melon sitting alone in the room trying take after take Yohoho lough
Her yohoho in 8:34 is very clean
Brook the Bard, the captain and veteran, the MVP of Whole Cake Island.
You will always be a rockstar to me!
I find that when I watch sad scenes or deaths in shows, I don’t cry at the actual death itself but instead at the reminiscing of those surrounding that person, like when *SPOILERS FOR MARINEFORD* Ace is preparing to be executed, I cried the most not at the end of it all with Luffy but instead with the memories that Garp is looking back on as he stays with Ace as long as he can
I think this may be a reason why Brook’s backstory is my favourite, its less about a tragedy that has happened and more about the aftermath being a person who remembers it
Thanks Melon!
Agreed👌
I’m so glad that people appreciate not only how great Brook is but also his voice actor’s performance.
Cho is definitely my favorite voice actor among all of Onepiece cast. I cry every time to the “I am so glad I’m alive!!!” scene
Oh, my boy Brook finally got his own video. I can die in peace now.
Oh wait
Hes already dead
lmao
YOHOHOHOHOHO
YOHOHOHOHOHOHOH
The binks sake scene is easily one of my favourite moments of one piece
Brook is probably my favorite Straw Hat, damn shame he did not get a song or musical bit in film red.
Luffy, Zoro, Sanji: Monster trio
Zoro, Sanji, Jimbei: the three commanders
Nami, Ussop, Chopper: Scared trio
Brook, Franky, Robin: Weird trio
Brook Robin Franky: The adults who never grow Up but grow a weird sence of Humor x3
Brook, Sanji, Franky: Pervert trio
They’re the funky trio
And if the story is heading where I think it is eventually, Nami, Robin, and Vivi the Strawhat Ladies. Hey its all but official, even more so as of recent chapters.
Usopp, Luffy, Chopper: Funny trio
The "Spare ribs!" part got me cackling like a damn maniac and I'm glad you put that in. 💀
Brook's last concerto really made me bawl my eyes out...
If I have any EYES! SKULL JOKE!
YOHOHOHOHO!
Brook is one of my biggest motivations for overcoming depression, seeing someone so devastated meet the right people and being grateful for life because all the efforts paid off at the end was what I needed to start fighting back
My favourite straw hat! Every time I hear Bink's Brew I always start tearing up, such an amazing man he was was.
3:36 am is the perfect time for a Melonteee vid. Thank you so very much
Nothing beat one Piece analysis at 3:28 pm
So now we just need a Jinbei video before the Luffy video. Very excited for what is to come! Absolutely love your content. Helps bring more insights to stuff I just thought on a basic level. It’s also a great way to reminisce the old arcs
I'd love a video on Garp, given the events of recent chapters.
Jimbei has got a lot to talk about. His character, his personality, his demeanour, his fighting style, everything about him screams supercool.
Brook is a character very close to my heart. Unfortunately, as a skeleton I don't have one!
YOHOHOHOHOHO
I'm here waiting for another Brook backstory showing us all how badass he is!
he was a soldier or something before the rumbar pirates right? that could be neat
I remember watching Thriller Bark for the first time and completely breaking down in tears during Brook’s flashback. His backstory, much like Chopper’s, hit me real hard, I still can’t possibly comprehend how it would feel to spend 50 years in complete loneliness after losing your family.
I was having a very bad evening, but this video absolutely raised my mood. Thank you so much! ;A;
Brook is very much my confort character.
Robin’s story made my cry the hardest. But Brook’s story is the saddest.
I think the dynamic between robin and brook is so cool because luffy gave both of them a reason to live. To genuinely keep going in enjoying their lives
Never been more happe to be on a night shift to see this video, by far the biggest emotional rollercoaster for backstories in one piece
6:31 oh hey its the scene that was used for foreshadowing for like 20 chapters before the gear 5 reveal
on my way to work and saw this uploaded, so happy rn, I've been waiting for this one. brook was the character I got to know first before I knew anything about one piece, I have a major soft spot for this fabulous grandpa
Brook is my favorite character in all of One Piece. He's actually the inspiration for my first ever DnD character, Clack the skeleton Bard.
BRO EVERY TIME I HEAR BROOK SAYING I’m so glad to be alive” I ALMOST CRY
Literally the same day i got to his first appearance, this video is posted. The timing is perfect lol
We all know Water7 is beautiful, but oh my god I love Thriller Bark's ending SO MUCH and it always makes me cry to see Brook's resolution.
Brook is one of my favorite Strawhats, cause my father and I love music, and we couldn't be ourselves without it.
Brook's backstory song absolutely devastated me.
24:40 SO CUZ IM ACTUALLY TYPING THROUGH TEARS RN AT THIS REVALATION-
BROOK WAS THE LAST TO DIE, WHICH MEANS HE COULD HEAR EACH INDIVIDUAL INTRUMENT STOPPING ONE BY ONE, KNOWING EXACTLY WHO IT WAS WHO JUST DIED WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING BECAUSE HE KNEW WHO PLAYED THAT INTRUMENT, AND HE PLAYED UNTIL IT WAS JUST HIS PIANO.
ODA, WHAT IN THE ACTUAL HELL, MAN?????
ODA COOKED BUT HE USED TO MANY FUCKIN ONIONS MANNNN-
i'd also like to add that i love the dynamic robin and brook have because its
30 something year old that is obsessed with ancient history
90 year old that is a literal pop star with canonical fan girls.
30 something year old with a tough and morbid exterior, and internally its just "hehe, kitties :3"
90 year old who externally is "silly goober :P" and internally is "where tf does all that trauma go, i mean you literally dont even have a brain"
To this day he is one of my top faves in the series and if I ever catch myself in a bad funk, singing Binks sake will always get me feeling better
love these videos as much as I love that goofy skeleton. keep up the good work!
So deep down the one piece rabbit hole already…. I salute to another soldier taken
I love everything about Bone Daddy, and will never stop simping for him
Oh boy I can't wait to re-experience the past trauma I felt from brooks backstory!
Brook’s backstory is the one thing that brought me back to one piece. I watched it up to Alabasta with my siblings on and off and fell out of it, but saw the rumbar death scene separately at some point and and was like “that was so heavy…. I should watch one piece”
It's also worth noting that while his last crew were killed by poison, Luffy later becomes resistant to poison thanks to Magellan and Caesar.
