    Renting a box truck and hauling for Amazon relay with your own authority might be the easiest way to start a trucking company ever. So I lay out some pros and cons of this strategy from the consideration of your trucking insurance….it plays a hug part!
    Steps to starting a trucking company with a rental box truck:
    1️⃣Register your business
    Search google: “[your state] Secretary of State”
    Or use LegalZoom: forhire.pro/LegalZoom
    Cost varies by state
    2️⃣Request an EIN (Tax ID)
    IRS website: forhire.pro/EIN
    Free if you do it yourself
    LegalZoom can include this if you go through them
    3️⃣Setup a bank account and sign up for QuickBooks
    Novo: forhire.pro/Novo
    Divvy: forhire.pro/Divvy
    QuickBooks - $7/month: forhire.pro/QuickBooks
    **Big banks have better technology**
    4️⃣Setup two email addresses
    1 for important business, 1 for your motor carrier application so you can weed out all the marketing
    Google Custom Email: forhire.pro/Google
    Use promo codes for 10% off:
    Starter Plan - $6: U9CC7FHR3R4R9FG
    Standard Plan - $12: E9NCH9XFED6DV9Q
    5️⃣Get another phone number to avoid unwanted marketing calls/texts
    Ring Central: forhire.pro/Ring
    Verizon Business: forhire.pro/VZWbiz
    One Talk: forhire.pro/OneTalk
    $25/month
    Once you download the app, setup your voicemail and forward all calls straight to voicemail
    6️⃣Apply for your Motor Carrier Authority
    Application: forhire.pro/AuthorityApp $300
    Watch this video for step by step guide: • Insurance Requirements...
    Seriously watch this video and don’t mess it up, takes forever to fix mistakes
    7️⃣Get your BOC-3 and UCR
    BOC-3 - $25: forhire.pro/BOC-3
    UCR - $62: forhire.pro/UCR
    8️⃣DOT Physical Exam for Medical Card

    *If you are in a state that I’m not licensed in yet, I’ll forward you this form and it will have exactly what you need to get a quote in your state.
    1️⃣0️⃣Setup freight factoring and fuel cards
    RTS Financial: forhire.pro/RTS
    RTS is by far the best for both factoring and fuel cards plus they offer special rates for Amazon Relay
    1️⃣1️⃣Find an amazing dispatcher
    Interview several, don’t look for the cheapest, you absolutely want the best
    If they charge more than others, that probably means they are better
    1️⃣2️⃣Sign up for Load Boards
    Truckers Edge: forhire.pro/TruckersEdge
    DAT Power: forhire.pro/DAT
    Sylectus: forhire.pro/Sylectus
    Truckstop: forhire.pro/Truckstop
    1️⃣3️⃣Shop Box Truck Rental Rates in your area, let them know you are a motor carrier for Amazon, some provide better rates for this
    Request a Budget account here: forhire.pro/Budget
    Request a Ryder account here: forhire.pro/Ryder
    1️⃣4️⃣New Entrant Phone Call
    You will get a letter in the mail from FMCSA for your audit call. Do this ASAP. It’s easy, they basically just go over your application to verify what you’ve entered.
    1️⃣5️⃣Pay your down payment for insurance close to the 21st day after applying for your authority
    You have to wait 21 days from the time you apply for your Authority and you want to make your insurance effective a couple days prior to that to make sure the insurance company has time to process the filings so your MC will be active on the 21st day.
    1️⃣6️⃣Apply to brokers

I love the opportunity for people and I really want everyone to understand how important it is to stay on top of the insurance because it can put you out of business so fast. §390.21 Marking of self-propelled CMVs and intermodal equipment.
      (a) General. Every self-propelled CMV subject to subchapter B of this chapter must be marked as specified in paragraphs (b), (c), and (d) of this section, and each unit of intermodal equipment interchanged or offered for interchange to a motor carrier by an intermodal equipment provider subject to subchapter B of this chapter must be marked as specified in paragraph (g) of this section.
      (b) Nature of marking. The marking must display the following information:
      (1) The legal name or a single trade name of the motor carrier operating the self-propelled CMV, as listed on the Form MCSA-1, the URS online application, or the motor carrier identification report (Form MCS-150) and submitted in accordance with §390.201 or §390.19, as appropriate.
      (2) The identification number issued by FMCSA to the motor carrier or intermodal equipment provider, preceded by the letters “USDOT.”
      (3) If the name of any person other than the operating carrier appears on the CMV, the name of the operating carrier must be followed by the information required by paragraphs (b)(1), and (2) of this section, and be preceded by the words “operated by.”
      (4) Other identifying information may be displayed on the vehicle if it is not inconsistent with the information required by this paragraph.
      (c) Size, shape, location, and color of marking. The marking must-
      (1) Appear on both sides of the self-propelled CMV;
      (2) Be in letters that contrast sharply in color with the background on which the letters are placed;
      (3) Be readily legible, during daylight hours, from a distance of 50 feet (15.24 meters) while the CMV is stationary; and
      (4) Be kept and maintained in a manner that retains the legibility required by paragraph (c)(3) of this section.
      (d) Construction and durability. The marking may be painted on the CMV or may consist of a removable device, if that device meets the identification and legibility requirements of paragraph (c) of this section, and such marking must be maintained as required by paragraph (c)(4) of this section.

And that nationwide budget rate is still good right? • @TruckInsurance
      @TruckInsurance  3 года назад +1

      Is employer liability a requirement for your state? Amazon shows it as a requirement but I've helped over 100 companies get setup with Amazon Relay and never once sold anyone Employer Liability and I write insurance in 8 states. Amazon only checks for auto liability, general liability, and cargo coverage, that's really all you should need getting started. If you grow and hire employees and not just contractors, you might need employer liability and workers comp, but those requirements vary by state and Amazon Relay will probably not ever verify those coverages with you.

    So I have my truck in the shop at the moment getting situated and its on my insurance. Its a 99 international. My authority just went active a few days ago. I was looking to do a rental for the time being since the mechanic is backed up.Will my monthly insurance payment go up? And should I take my truck off the policy to add the rental for the time being or just leave it as is with both my truck and the rental on the policy?

    • @TruckInsurance
      @TruckInsurance  3 года назад +3

      In this situation, its important to understand the regulations around insurance and scheduled auto policies...When your insurance company submits filings to the FMCSA, they are promising to insure the vehicles you operate under your authority. When you get your insurance, you agree to notify your insurance agent/company of any vehicles that will be operating under your authority so they can be listed on your policy. If a vehicle is registered to your business...it has to be on the policy, even if its not being used (there are some scenarios and policies where you could reduce coverages but that varies a lot and isn't always a good option). IF you can get Hired and Non-owned coverage added to your Auto Liability policy, these coverages can allow you to use a SUBSTITUTE vehicle while one of your scheduled vehicle is out for maintenance (and normally this has limits that vary by policy), BUT if you were to try and run both vehicles...then both vehicles have to be scheduled...This is one of those things that gets people in trouble and it's important to understand how all of it works so you can use what applies to you. Also if your truck that is down for maintenance has physical damage rated at $30K (for example)...you'll probably need to increase it for the rental value or just pay for physical damage coverage through the rental company's insurance. Hope this isn't an overload but my goal with this channel is to be informative and share things I've seen...such as...When a guy thought he could be slick and just run with insurance on one truck but really had 5 out on the road and one of his drivers rolled a rental truck coming off an exit ramp...$60K....not covered...no longer in business!

    Would be worth it to rent a truck over the road

    • @TruckInsurance

      That question depends on a whole lot fo things and comes with even more opinions. I say it really depends on your specific business model and goals. It has to be worth it to some because I've seen quite a few companies grow from renting 1 truck to having a fleet of 10+

    I'm thinking about renting a truck through enterprise and they are offering their own insurance. Would using Enterprise's insurance be good enough for Amazon Relay, or should I still get insurance through Progressive? Thanks!

      You definitely need your own authority and to do that you have to get your own insurance. I made a video about the insurance requirements that breaks this down.
