One of the cutest parts of the episode is the Doctor talking to baby Rose about wherever or not she plans to destroy the world later. This is the first ep where he is truly mad at her but he is never cruel.
@@bwmanhath3770 the shows logic says that fucking with a fixed point in time summons them; they’re like a bacteria taking advantage according to the doctor.

3:23 obviously this is the Doctor-lite of the series, so Chris wasn't on set as much. During his time off, he visited his father only to find out he had been diagnosed with cancer. This aptly titled episode is very personal to Chris, one of his favourites.
My dad introduced me to Doctor Who back in 2005. In 2010, he left. This episode has always resonated with me because while he didn't die, it felt like he did. I've always felt an immense connection to this series because of him and especially this one. It might not be the best of Doctor Who, but for me it sure is.
I love it how interconnected a lot of the characters and plots were in Series 1, especially Father's Day. I hope future series will be more like this. The music in this series was also some of the greatest music composed for DW ever in my opinion.
Yeah couldn't agree more about the music, it's such a shame only one small piece of it was officially released on the series 1 and 2 soundrack, especially when you consider how long and comprehensive the later soundrack releases were
I'm glad you pointed out the obvious for the rest. Many who will watch this years from now wouldn't know the upload date exact by just casually surfing. And for THAT...I salute you.
I love that you've finally gotten around to this episode. It's one of my favourites. Looking back, this episode is why Rose is one of my favourite modern companions. The first season has her facing an existential look on her homeworld and the human race, has her face the consequences of time travel whilst leaving people behind and, in this episode, she's allowed to screw up and face the consequences which are not easy to overcome. Seriously, one of the reasons I like the Davies era companions is that they all face repercussions to time travel that are personal to them. I would say the same with Amy and Rory but their consequences were either lightened up immensely or felt like they could have been easily resolved. I could say Clara and Bill died but Clara is gallivanting off in a Tardis with Ishildr and Bill is travelling the cosmos with the crush she thought had been permanently lost with the possibility of becoming solid again not to mention 12th got a sendoff with them and Nardal. Honestly, the only one that comes close is Graham because Ryan has been more written to complain about his daddy issues than process his grief. Whilst it may seem scheming to some, honestly, time travel is a gingerbread house. Get some platinum that the conquistadors discarded from their tyranny in pursuit of gold. Last week's lottery numbers, seeing and/or saving a relative from lifelong injury/death. Next companion I think should be someone down on their luck, maybe from a group like from New York's ballroom community who can't have financial stability because of who they are and have a story arc where they steal things that are lost to get money either as an artifact or melting it down. Then, unlike Adam where he had something to go back to, there's the parole officer/teacher dynamic. Also, they could be like Ace and, honestly, that's never a bad thing.
This was the episode when I was at school that all the other kids were talking about. It was extremely popular among my class mates, mainly because of the excellent Reapers.
remember when time altering problems in this show posed threats such as this and not just THE FABRIC OF TIME ITSELF IS UNRAVVELLING BECAUSE YOU PICKED UP A STONE ON THE BEACH
They should bring the reapers back, and keep them as a constant reminder not to change time. Imagine how scary they would look with the new technologies and gci
I never noticed this until now but the road where Pete originally dies is, in fact, the same place the Tardis is sent to when the Doctor activates Emergency Programme One. Simply a reused set? Possibly. But I like to think that the Doctor did it on purpose as a gesture to Rose, a sort of thank you for being there moment.
Thank you for bringing up the horse painting! Every time I watch this episode I can’t take my eyes off it. Without even mentioning the symbolism of it it was just a bizarre piece of decoration that I was just gobsmacked by

I started with doctor who midway through tenants run, I went back and watched no.9's episdoes aswell. I always liked fathers day, it was a memorable episode for me.
I must say I think the (somewhat cheesy) off-screen deaths are so haunting and terrifying mainly because there’s no fanfare to them and we don’t see the reapers. The dealers are beautiful as well. Annnndddd the TARDIS being an actual police box is amazing: a place of safety that you can always rely on just gone, again, without fanfare as well as the doctors death, is all just phenomenal.
I feel like the way that Rose causing the small butterfly effect to time leads to the next timeline rose not being there causing both realties to be able to exist. Some odd time stuff like in that one Futurama episode where they go to the future & eventually time repeats but its done in a way that the universe is forever repeating itself.
I bet if they had the budget back then they would do something similar to when the doctor didnt die. Because the phone call and the car radio changing from 80s to modern music tells me that time just collapsed in on itself and everything is happening all at once kust like what happend to doctor 11.
What really makes me fed up of series 6 and upwards is the stakes are so big they don’t matter , here the doctors tardis doesn’t work because rose saves a man who was supposed to die , whereas in the 50 th anniversary they reverse gallifrey being destroyed which has no consequences whatsoever . We need Paul Cornell for series 13 😣
I think the bit about having the same eyes, is like the metaphor for eyes being the doorway to the soul; so instead of being the same colour, its more akin to having the same soul, or the same spark inside those eyes.
11:31 this is included for when rose is trying to get back to the doctor in parting of the ways she uses this to persuade Jackie that the doctor is a good man
In the original script, the survivors in the Church comment about using the phone to call the Police and then the scene cuts to a shot of a Police Car, doors open and blue light flashing. They also mention seeing smoke plumes but not hearing the sound of sirens.

it's honestly ashame that time being set in stone wasn't a more common theme later in the show, like i remember the time travel bot that goes back to torture historical villains really dumb (and the fact river song is a more of a priority than hitler, like wtf), still though this is such a classic story where the drama is more personal than most stories.
