One time I made a comic on the comic maker that was quite a few pages, when I was like, nine maybe, and had no idea how technology worked. The printer wouldn't work so I turned off the computer and left the room. My dad tried to print off something later that day and the printer suddenly decided to print off the 100+ pages that had somehow not printed earlier. He wasn't pleased.

I mean not to be nitpicky but I just from the science babble it sounds less like a self destruct and more like he overloaded some kind of systems which results in the explosion, so standard doctor witty solution. You cant really take the science babble at face value but still, he said something about rerouting energy to a primary heat converter. If thats overloaded because of it, it sounds less like a self destruct and more like an intentional action that leads to the ship exploding
Thanks for your reviews. I especially like how you point out several motifs (in writing / portrayal / shooting) like something simple as a slanted frame (and much much more). God, I miss the old writers, and now I know even better why that is.
On one of the DVD extras, it's noted that when everyone met for the read-though and introduced themselves and the part they'd be playing, David said that he'd be playing "John Smith". Actually, David plays three roles: the Doctor, John Smith, and the Doctor playing John Smith, not for long, but it's subtly different from the John Smith we've come to know. The Doctor really shows his alien-ness when he casually invites Joan to come travelling with him: the man she knew and loved is dead, and yet here he is asking her to try again.
@@azuregriffin1116 well this was many years after this episode aired so she's an adult. We hosted a doctor who convention and she was a guest. Events transpired...
Little Hidden line in the music at the beginning of human nature says “follow the master” at possibly the quietest moment so you can definitely lookout for that next time you watch it.
Thomas Sangster's whole performance and the fact that they loosely made him parallel The Doctor was also incredible. And the veteran at the end, you didn't mention that :( I also haven't watched these episodes for about 5 years but I just remember that shit bc they're a complete masterpiece
In the middle of the video and just realized it’s like another regeneration for John Smith...because he’s losing his life all over again. Like a foreshadowing of what his regeneration that is to come is truly like within his own mind. How he feels when he loses it all
One of my favourite Tennant episodes, it's brilliant and fantastic! Plus I never made anything on the comic maker but I had many happy memories on the trailer maker, sadly all my experiments are lost in the time vortex!
I still think the way the doctor dealt with them at the end of this was one of my favourite endings in any of the episodes it just goes to show that the doctor isn't someone you mess with he really is dealing with a low of dark things and when that side comes out you better hope you're not on the other side of it
Love this episode is finally getting its time to shine with this video and Full-Fat Videos showcasing its masterclass in writing. It is pretty much perfect. The acting and overall menace of the villains, how David and the writers get u to care about John Smith as a separate entity, the EPIC ending which just makes u understand why armies run away at the very mention of his name. So cool. The only thing that bothers me if Martha being an idiot and letting the family know John Smith is the Doctor, but she did better than other companions would under similar circumstances so MASTERPIECE!
18:00 People have physically moved the Tardis around on numerous occasions. It's been moved by UNIT trucks (off-screen), horse drawn wagons and at least one helicopter. I think it's been shown picked up and carried off by like 6 or 8 dudes before. Though they never specify out loud, they sure do treat it like it effectively weighs about what a wooden box that size would weigh.
When I first saw these I had to go onto Iplayer because I thought I'd missed an episode. The start was superb. It was all fantastic. I'd love 'John Smiths book'.
The way the Doctor dealt with the Family was bone chilling....it was a concept confirmed in A Good Man Goes to War. If the Doctor was "good" he wouldn't need to observe so many rules. It makes you wonder what the Doctor did before he decided to run away from Gallifrey. Did he do dark deeds he regrets? Was he trained to do unthinkable things and had a crisis of conscience? We don't know, but these moments firmly establish that he has a dark side, and the universe is lucky he chooses to not embrace them.
I met Thomas Brodie Sangster the other day walking home from university and he was such a nice guy, I instantly told him I was a fiend for doctor who even though hes a film star and he was in doctor who for 90 minutes 😂 still tho what a lovely guy
I don't know if anyone else thinks this, but I've always thought that showing John Smith the future he could have was almost an apology and a gift from the Doctor. John Smith gets to see the life he can't live, as does Joan. And as shown earlier, proximity to the watch brings out the Doctor, so I've always wondered if it was The Doctor who reaches out to hold the watch with Joan
I only recently discovered a relative of mine died fighting in the First World War in 1917, older than the boys in this show but at least six years younger than I am now. He was just a lad still, now this episode seems to hit a little harder knowing my great grandfather lost a brother to that war.

That A7X 'Welcome to the family' made me so happy.
That's happened to me before
Well Jeremy doesn't need to worry about being a scarecrow forever since he's gonna be reincarnated as a Targaryen Prince
Season 3 and 4, I think are the golden ages of doctor who, it had the best stories and the best characters, whilst also running alongside torchwood and sarah-jane adventures
i’ll never forget when the preview for this episode was shown on the “next time” section and all we got shown was the doctor being human and 7 year old me had never been more confused and excited for anything in my life
Someone made a very good point that this story is totally pointless because the doctor kills the family in literally 30 seconds at the end, if it was that easy why didn't he just do that at the beginning?
I forgot how great and emotional these episodes were. Looking forward to when you review the season 4 specials in 5 years, some of Tennant’s best acting in Who
Still remember my sister being terrified of the scarecrows, so I used to go into her room at night and whisper
“The scarecrows are coming to get you”. She didn’t get much sleep on those nights
God, I miss the Comic and Trailer Makers.
I wanted to make a comic so bad, but I live in the US. 😩
Definitely one of my, not only favorite Tennant stories, but favorite new series stories. I give both of these parts a 10/10
An interesting fact you might not know. Harry Lloyd is actually the great great grandson of Charles Dickens.
Human Nature / Family of Blood is the two parter that is like wine, it only gets better and is appreciated more with age and maturity ❤️❤️❤️
Met Paul Cornell (the writer of this two parter and Father’s Day) at Dublin International Comic Expo asked him his inspiration of this episode and he told me it was Superman II
You didn't even the moment that really got to me when i first watched these episodes.
"Will they thank you?"
That hit me really hard.
Fun fact: Paul Cornell was actually a friend of my parents when they were younger
doctor who is the kind of show where you can never know whether or not you'll be getting a good episode, an average episode, or a terrible episode. Episodes like these two are the one's that keep me invested this weird show, no matter how bad it gets, it always comes back around and eventually we'llget gems like these two.
I mean not to be nitpicky but I just from the science babble it sounds less like a self destruct and more like he overloaded some kind of systems which results in the explosion, so standard doctor witty solution. You cant really take the science babble at face value but still, he said something about rerouting energy to a primary heat converter. If thats overloaded because of it, it sounds less like a self destruct and more like an intentional action that leads to the ship exploding
great video though
agree with both of you
Thanks for your reviews.
Why haven’t we gotten a retrospective on the Doctor Who flash games yet? The Trailer Maker, Dalek Breakout, K9 on a Mission etc.
13:10 this shot, with the pov camera and eye level angle is fucking terrifying in my opinion
These episodes are the beginning of the Doctor we see during "The Waters of Mars"!
A friend of mine managed to get with Daughter of Mine
Hm? Do explain...
Um... what?
@@azuregriffin1116 well this was many years after this episode aired so she's an adult. We hosted a doctor who convention and she was a guest. Events transpired...
@@airshiphead lmao
bruh
Little Hidden line in the music at the beginning of human nature says “follow the master” at possibly the quietest moment so you can definitely lookout for that next time you watch it.
THEY NEED TO ADAPT MORE WHO NOVELS FOR THE SCREEN
"The Time Lord has such adventures, but he could never have a life like that"
Thomas Sangster's whole performance and the fact that they loosely made him parallel The Doctor was also incredible. And the veteran at the end, you didn't mention that :(
I also haven't watched these episodes for about 5 years but I just remember that shit bc they're a complete masterpiece
That nostalgia, the trailer maker 😍
Harry, where’s the Father’s Day review?! 😁
In the middle of the video and just realized it’s like another regeneration for John Smith...because he’s losing his life all over again. Like a foreshadowing of what his regeneration that is to come is truly like within his own mind. How he feels when he loses it all
Awkward moment when the worst part of a 2 part story is a spotlight lmfao
One of my favourite Tennant episodes, it's brilliant and fantastic! Plus I never made anything on the comic maker but I had many happy memories on the trailer maker, sadly all my experiments are lost in the time vortex!
Taking both as one episode, this is in my top 5 favourite Dr. Who episodes. Brilliant on so many levels.
I REMEMBER THAT COMIC MAKER! :D
I still think the way the doctor dealt with them at the end of this was one of my favourite endings in any of the episodes it just goes to show that the doctor isn't someone you mess with he really is dealing with a low of dark things and when that side comes out you better hope you're not on the other side of it
I love how every time I re watch doctor who I go "OH SHIT THEY WERE IN GAME OF THRONES"
One thing that took me out of this episode was when the army attacked the school and they used a different actor for Baines ( 16:04 )
I think they also used a different when he goes into the spaceship.
That comic maker and trailer maker nostalgia hit me different
pretty sure there was such a big nostalgia overdose, my body froze
those games tho
man he could have made a good tom riddle
When I first saw these I had to go onto Iplayer because I thought I'd missed an episode. The start was superb. It was all fantastic. I'd love
'John Smiths book'.
These episodes had me reeling for several days. One of the most disturbing stories I’ve ever experienced.
Loved the A7X shout out at 5.49 😄❤️
The way the Doctor dealt with the Family was bone chilling....it was a concept confirmed in A Good Man Goes to War.
Scrooge fighting Viktor is one of my favourite Doctor Who two-parters.
omg the comic maker. seeing that made me think i was a kid again
I met Thomas Brodie Sangster the other day walking home from university and he was such a nice guy, I instantly told him I was a fiend for doctor who even though hes a film star and he was in doctor who for 90 minutes 😂 still tho what a lovely guy
Jack Jones and you just casually say “I met Thomas Brodie Sangster the other day...”
@@EmblaBexell yeah I saw him and I was like hold up aren't you that guy off the telly he goes "well I'm an actor" 😂😂 so jokes I'm such an idiot omfg
