Who else got confused which game was which. Really an homage to the care and effort the AOC team took in recreating BOTW’s Hyrule.
yeah it always took me a second, it's hard to tell without looking at the HUD!
Its interesting that death mountain is the most faithful area when due to its geological instabilities of magma, earthquakes and thermal vents, not to mention gorons mining for rocks, they could have done absolutely anything there and put the changes down to natural\goron activity over the last 100 years.
You know, I just realized: octorok Is a combination of octopus and rock.

I prefer to think of the owners of the inn as being so meticulous that whenever the bottles are replaced they have to be in the exact same spot down to the picometer
Yeah, while in the same general style they look like they're completely different bottles, so I assume they just have standard placings, maybe even small divots for their placement.

Ugh, the koroks in aoc are so hard to find amidst all the action, and it was like a year before I realized they could spawn in training levels
I will be forever amazed by how much detail was put into making age of calamity

I really enjoyed the maps in Age pf Calamity. Recognizing known landmarks was an amazing feeling and the maps were extended logically to fit the gameplay.

I love these videos so much. I have always wanted to do stuff like this, just sightseeing in AoC, but the amount of times you’re probably forced to restart because you need to help allies would probably drive me insane. I love how much attention to detail you have!
I have only gotten a single Game Over from wasting time so far, the one seen in the first video, *and I'm playing on Very Hard*. Allies yelling for help is more of a menu decoration than an actual gameplay mechanic.
THIS ISN'T A CHALLENGE VIDEO WHY ARE YOU PLAYING ON VERY HARD?

I absolutely adore that the developers went above and beyond to keep as many resemblances as possible to the original. Some of them not even something that most players would notice without explicitly searching. So much passion for the game
This is just such a fun and chill video concept, I absolutely adore all the detail put into Age of Calamity.
Also, GameChamp's patrons may have the greatest screennames of all time
Even if there were some mistakes here and there, it's amazing how hard the devs worked on these recreations.

I guess I just had good timing. Not only to catch this video, but I also happen to be playing Age of Calamity right now.
My first thought when destroying terrain as the Divine Beasts was "woah, so this might be why it's slightly different between the two games".
Though that might just be optimistic naivety.

Good stuff! I think it would be cool to see more of the cross fading between games for comparison. Also, when the footage was aligned vertically, it was kind of hard to see. All in all, great video with clear effort and passion behind it!

I was playing botw with my friend being able to see my screen (he’s played the game, I haven’t)
And I was like “so I kinda wanna go to the Akkala tech lab” and he was like “no you don’t, it’s guardian town” and me remembering GCs no pause run was like “but Gamechamp got there early” and my friend went “well she can beat a platformer without jumping, you used a fairy on a minor test of strength”

to be fair, the divine beast sections might just be different because of how destructive they are - you're literally reshaping the terrain as you play through it, so the bridge behind Ruta might have been knocked over, the waterfalls created, etc
also, if you think about the lore of the world, I really like the fact that the water level is higher in BOTW's domain, since the whole idea was that it was on the verge of flooding and being washed away due to the constant rains caused by Ruta, right?
Shout out to that absolute banger of a soundtrack for Age of Calamity. 🤙

I do have a theory that the main area of Death Mountain (not the Divine Beast segment) might have changed due to the constant eruptions, since we never find out when exactly the mountain became active again, but we know it was likely not long after the Great Calamity since we see the avalanche in the memory we unlock during the Vah Rudania quest line and Daruk mentioning it had been quiet for decades. This would help explain how some paths had possibly caved in and the ornamentations around the paths destroyed from the magma bombs.
The fact that it's an active volcano goes a long way to explain paths sunken in lava and the addition of new rock near the summit. Though with the latter the Gorons probably had to recarve those narrower paths. Having a rampaging rock throwing mecha around probably didn't help either.

It kinda looks like the Rudania part is that strip along the back side of Death Mountain, at least by the skeletons.

You can actually see the pickaxe statue from the southern mine if you look closely during the rudania level.
I think you’re right about the Ralis pond, because there is a Hinox there in Botw and at the end of “Heart’s Escort,” there is a hinox there that you save link from. Actually, I have a theory about that part, and it ties into a video I’m working on. I’ll post the link here to the video theory about a certain ship in this game.

1:53 “Apparently, the Apocalypse did wonders for the economy.”
This may be a joke, but it might ironically be true, since Hylians had fled to the outer regions of Hyrule. (Specifically Kakariko and Hateno) After 100 years, the new generation born after the Calamity seemed to have gotten a new list for adventure, enough to travel all over Hyrule and even one NPC exploring Hyrule Castle. This might have done wonders for trading.

Inconsistencies could be explained in at least two ways
1. Age of Calamity being a different universe, which it is
2. The environment in Age of Calamity is a condensed representation of pre-Calamity Hyrule, not a literal portrayal of it
It's not a different universe, it's a time travel story taking place in the same universe. In the opening cutscene, Terrako time travels from the Breath of the Wild timeline, which creates the new timeline where the rest of the game takes place. All differences between the timelines are entirely due to Terrako's actions.
