Kuala Lumpur is full of amazing Malaysian street food; you can find some of the most popular street food in the country here. With a large Chinese population, it’s next to impossible to run out of fantastic street foods to eat full of amazing local flavours. Located on Petaling Street in the centre of the city, Chinatown is where you can find some of the best Chinese street food in Kuala Lumpur.
We started our huge Chinatown street food tour early, since many stalls open first thing in the morning and close once they sell out! This is so nostalgic…. As a young kid , Petaling Street used to be the hangout place for a lot of us after school.The years have passed… but the eateries are still there .I still think that Malaysian Chinese food is the best in comparison to other countries😊
I'm sure a lot of it hasn't changed a bit, we couldn't believe how many amazing places have been around for decades and are still selling the same great quality dishes, just incredible. The Malaysian Chinese food really is something else, we can't get enough 😍 Thanks so much for watching :)
@@HungryTwoTravel I am in Singapore right now for a work trip and my SG counterpart asked me how come they do it well in Malaysia vs SG. I simply put it: a hawker in Malaysia only does one dish very well until he/she retires or dies. They don't mess around and offer a plethora of food. They just hone and polish their skills until they become sifus in their field. And that same example, I told the them, is how we should run our start-up.

@@HungryTwoTravel if you are back in KL I suggest you do some research on Restaurant Sek Yuen at Pudu. This is the last bastion of Cantonese cuisine from the prewar period. If the last generation of Sek Yuen cooks call it a day then the last of the historical Cantonese cuisine is done. Hope you will have a chance to savor the flavors from before the war.
Wow that sounds incredible. If we head back that way we will definitely look them up. We hope the cuisine continues to live on through generations, it's so important to pass that history and heritage down.

Petaling street is one of my favourite places in KL! personally i hang out there pretty often bc if you didn't already notice it is booming with cafes and hip places too among all the street food and generational businesses, and all the young kids come all dressed up for a day out there. Also, some of the best speakeasy bars are there too!
We noticed it's definitely a great area of the city to hang out. There's so much to offer we wish we could have spent even more time than we did!
Welcome to Malaysia! 🥰🥰 You ate the best foods in Petaling St. 🤗 My favourite is the Shin Kee beef noodles. Opposite Shin Kee beef noodles shop, there is an old coffee shop called Kedai Kopi Lai Foong (which means Lai Foong Coffee Shop). The beef noodles (Taiwanese style) and lala mihun noodles soup are very good too! Lala is clams.

Refreshing clips of KL after 2 years of dreariness (Covid restrictions). Chinatown today is very different from Chinatown 50 years ago or even 100 years ago where there were many brothels and drug and gambling dens . 50 years ago, the main Petaling Street was very busy with cars moving both ways, thronged with local people, packed with food stalls , clothes shops , clothes stalls , Chinese antique collectibles shop, stationery shop , many stalls selling better roast ducks and duck meat and offal rolls, Chinese medicinal shops.. etc. The shops were all occupied by locals, some families living above, making a living downstairs … it was the real old Chinatown. Hot ,dusty, sweaty and noisy. Today Chinatown looks superficial, relatively quiet and forlorn. The ones you ventured out to eat are the last of the previous generations though without much competition. Perhaps the last generation.. sadly. Thanks so much for recommending them .
Thank you so much for your comment. We can imagine Chinatown has changed so much over the years, it's sounds like a completely different place to what is is now! Especially being a walking street, without the hustle of the cars, we're sure it's a much different scene. Hopefully it will continue to thrive and newer generations will keep what the old started so that the history will live on. It's such a historical and beautiful part of the city, we enjoyed the food and the wonderful people so much🥰

You should try the other beef noodle at the end of the road called Jalan Alor , it open at night until next day morning 03:00 . The surrounding area so occupied famous local and foreign restaurant too.. 😀
Yes, it is bitter melon. Very healthy. Have it with some sweet sauce and you will be fine. Enjoy… I missed all these good foods

The original Hokkien Mee Called Kim Lian Kee has a big red colour restaurant at the cross junction near Air Mata Kuching stall… in the evening their original little shop will open near the Chee Cheong fun stall…really delicious probably due to the amount of pork lard they add lol

FYI, ma chee is made of glutinous rice flour etc, those favour is normally artificial food essence as well as colours.
The chinese CHUNG -glutinous rice dumpling , in it instead of soyabean , indeed it is Mung bean.
You visited my favourous stalls,that i frequently ate there. You both missed out 1 stall , just next to the congee stall, the kun kee wanton mee.
The trail along the chinatown, reminded me so much of my past. I left kl for more thhen 20 years. I miss those street food so so much.

I grew up eating these foods, Chris. Haven't eaten them for some years now (other than the fakes they sell here in the UK)... The 'mah-chee' used to be just plain flour - I like the original authentic stuff from years gone by unlike the present add-ons like mango flavour, durian flavour and what not. Enjoy your food in Malaysia - make sure you try the nyonya varieties in Melaka, formerly known as Malacca.
Hey Corina, hopefully this brought back some good memories for you :) we had such a great time exploring Chinatown and tasting all the local and amazing food that's there. We are really enjoying Malaysia!!
The name of the roast duck stall literally mean 4 eyes. She chose not to use the skewer to taste both black sesame/mango mochi covered with crushed peanuts. The cantonese joong zi aka tamales usually consisted of mung bean so they used soy bean instead. I also don't like porridge either when I was a child and the one they had definitely my 1st and favorite congee and I would recommend sampan porridge as well is my other favorite. She cut those Chee Cheong Fun like Ho Fun in strip instead of rice noodle roll. My ideal dish would have included soy sauce + peanut sauce. I like how they prepared the tea terik and served in plastic bag of ice since they made it hot to begin with. Dim Sum restaurant served Yong Tau Foo usually came with braising sauce on top. It's refreshing herbal longan drink and so are the soy milk. Since he had his bean curd jelly with brown sugar so he prefers no sweet in the drink. I like both of their pancakes. Could add some veggies in beef noodle soup. Can Steph speak some cantonese??

By the way, when you say in Cantonese "Kei Hou Sik" means quite good. Usually, local will say "Hou Hou Sik" instead in Cantonese means very good 👍

You just hit the right spot for street food. Try Indian n Malay food as well if u haven't done so. Good thing about Malaysia, there's no price difference between foreigners n locals in food price. Amazing food with cheap price!

Halo this is Petaling street or local called it 茨厂街 and Chinese don't called it Chinatown. The Chinese already there before KL existed. The Malaysian Chinese pioneering developed Malacca (1409) and Sg Ujung(Seremban), then went to develop Klang and KL in British era few hundreds years later.

You covered almost all the iconic food in Chinatown Malaysia except for the Hokkien Mee, claypot chicken rice and the bitter Chinese herbal tea. Chris, you need to improve your Cantonese, you can't use 'Ko' as classifier for everything.
