Yup. Mandarin is even taught in schools (in Malaysia and Singapore) instead of Cantonese or Hokkien. So if you don't speak either Cantonese or Hokkien, but as long as you know Mandarin, you can pretty much get around in most parts of Malaysia that have significant Chinese populations since the majority of them will know Mandarin in addition to their native dialect. It's too bad that happened but it's all part of any tourist experience. We just wanted to share the reality of it. We didn't hide the fact that we were filming...
Like Romanians on the road said last year, it is always the old uncles and aunties who are the worst scammers. Because of their experience and they cannot be bothered with self dignity because of their age.
Malaysians are influenced by a bad government. RM50 for 30 mins? Anyone will do it for RM20 if you bargain. You should not pay if you are sure it's less than 30 minutes. If you don't get down and insist he send you to the nearest police with your Google map, you could get away with RM20 the most. You can eat the same chendol dessert from their air-conditioned shop just around the corner nearby around 100 meter away(or is it closed? Penang are known to be very thrifty people, they won't pay a little more for comfort).
😄😄😄 Rickshaw's used to be a cheaper mode of transport in most Asian countries, however in recent times, most tourists have turned it into some sort of joyride/sightseeing tour thing and the rickshaw operators have realized this and started to overprice the ride. You should have been more brutal with the rickshaw rider when he tried to rip you off and just tell him you are paying $25 instead of the $50 because you only got a 15min ride instead of 30mins. Sounds harsh to do this, but unfortunately they prey on the "niceness" of most tourist as they know most will still see this as only a small sum of money...... and by the way, the Curry Noodles from that shop is my wife's favourite. On our last trip there, she insisted on going there nearly every morning for breakfast, knocking down 2 bowls each time...
I rate malaysian food as the best and enjoy stacks of food from india, thailand, vietnam and china. but i found char kway teow there and the penang style with lapchong sausage delicious. love the culture and architecture there. had the curry mee in singapore very nice too. had a thai dish with fried oysters and noodles absolutely delicious but forgot the name. rip off trishaw on time and price absolute rip off. the art world in penang is world class culture.

Timer or whatever, they are there to cheat. Try not to take your own, but through local agents. However, through local agents, it would not be cheap anymore.
the penang road cendol lost the taste already. back in 20 + years they really taste superb. my boss will always buy me the cendol when i work at komtar . Last weekend went there again. the taste is pretty much normal. u can get everywhere with that taste .
Shame on that rickshaw rider for cheating the tourists, charging 50 ringgit for only a 10 mins ride is a ripped off, local tourism board must look into this issue seriously !
Our sincere appologies about the trishaw uncle who rip you off with RM50 for 10 minutes ride. This is not acceptable especially when we need tourist or visitors to boom up our economy of lower and middle income. Next time, just report it to the authority. You guys will always get our back. Sorry again 🙏🙏🙏
that rickshaw is too expensive... rm50 is too much. well the reason he said RM50 is because people would always haggle the price so they always put up much higher price at the beginning. i think he'd settle with rm30 easy.
I respect that u guys didn't haggle, bcoz I believe u guys took into account that he's an old man and rm50 for a 30 minutes ride sounds fair for someone his age to make a living. It just unfortunate that he took advantage of the situation. Keep up the positivity though, as the negative actions of some people shd never dampen the spirit of goodness in us
Then at the end of the trip, he will ask for RM60 saying RM30 is for one person. Scammers are always well prepared. Anyway RM50 for such a lesson is okay, just treat it as an acting fee for him to appear in the video.
@@FloraandNote I will give some suggestion. For food, I saw that you liked Mee rebus. In Singapore you can get 1 of the best Mee Rebus at Haig road Market & food Center. The stall name is Haji Marzuki. There is another 1 beside it which is popular as well called Affendi Hawa but personally for me Haji Marzuki is better. Haig road is near to Geylang Serai which is like China Town but for Malays. At geylang Serai market, you can get good Malay food, especially Nasi Padang, and i will also recommend you mutton soup there, "Iqbal Soup Kambing" which at 2nd floor of Geylang Market. Another place you should try is a restaurant called "Tash Tish Tosh". It is a fusion western/asian restaurant and you should get the toolang and also the chicken wings. This is my favourite restaurant in Singapore. For places to visit, i think you can mostly google but i will recommend this 1 place which it seems not many foreigners know or go which is Sungei Buloh. If you are into nature walks, trekking etc, this is a nice place to go and you can see wild crocodiles. Best is to go during low tide for more chance to see crocodiles. Thats it. On our last trip there, she insisted on going there nearly every morning for breakfast, knocking down 2 bowls each time...
It's ok. You are doing the right thing - spread your wealth to others who are struggling.
Nice video
That Trishaw paddle not honest to charge rm50 for such a short ride... Sad to see such ppl in the street making dishonest money
Terimakasih🤎
อีกนานไหมเน้อ จะกลับบ้านเรา อยากเห็นมุมภาพสวยๆของภาคอิสานบ้าง สงกรานต์กลับไทยไหมครับ
when you take away the drink in the plastic bag, There is a name for it, we called it...."Ikat Tepi"
Wait why is my RUclips feed sending me this after 6 months? To remind them to return the 3rd time?
Rm50 for 10 mins ride is a bit expensive..... I heard it was supposed to be 30mins..... anyhow... always like your videos....
Actually lots of hawkers understand and speak Cantonese. Give it a shot first and if that fails, speak to them in English 😁
There's no shortage of food options in Malaysia for sure! I think there aren't enough gyms though 😂 We need to work out so we can eat more!
The left handed char koay teow seller has moved to another location. Nevertheless u could still find other good ckt around
Yes! We enjoyed all of the Char Koay Teow we had there.
Which location?
I rate malaysian food as the best and enjoy stacks of food from india, thailand, vietnam and china. but i found char kway teow there and the penang style with lapchong sausage delicious. love the culture and architecture there. had the curry mee in singapore very nice too. had a thai dish with fried oysters and noodles absolutely delicious but forgot the name. rip off trishaw on time and price absolute rip off. the art world in penang is world class culture.
That trishaw rider new style of scammer can ruin the image of tourist just short trip he charge Rm 50 not even half our lucky both you very nice guy if me i pull off his ear ha ha because im a penang too i know thier trick so im say sorry what was happened to you behalf of penang lang maa slang hokkien little bit.
2:42 uncle Chan moved to ivory Tower. It's my favourite CKT as well. His curry mee is also delicious.

Aww man we missed out! We'll look for him next time :)
The trishaw puller just poured sand into the rice bowl of his colleagues. He was caught on camera. I hope the authorities concerned (MOTAC and Penang City Council) will take the necessary action.
Rickshaw driver pick you up from Kimberly St (Cross street Kuala Kangsar St)
and dropped you off at Armenian St Heritage Hotel
It's a 4 minutes by car 9 minutes by feet so obviously it's even less than 1/2 of the 30 minutes ride been agreed upon
I felt bad that you been duped .
三轮车司机正衰仔嚟嘅😣😣
The Trishaw Uncle Probably Don't really understand English. Anyway , don't let This Incident spoil your guys mood. 🤗🤗🤗
Yes, we agree with what you said and that's really why we didn't argue with him.
Timer or whatever, they are there to cheat. Try not to take your own, but through local agents. However, through local agents, it would not be cheap anymore.
Not every Malaysian-Chinese food in Penang is better than KL. KL has its own unique Malaysian-Chinese food, it is comparatively lesser than Penang.
the penang road cendol lost the taste already. back in 20 + years they really taste superb. my boss will always buy me the cendol when i work at komtar . Last weekend went there again. the taste is pretty much normal. u can get everywhere with that
taste .
Genting is not pronounced as 'jen-ting' though. More like get but with a 'n' instead of the 't' 😆
def got scammed - man every food looks so good =(
Shame on that rickshaw rider for cheating the tourists, charging 50 ringgit for only a 10 mins ride is a ripped off, local tourism board must look into this issue seriously !
hey guys have you consider getting the Malaysia digital nomad visa DE Rantau
We haven't since we are residency in Thailand and it's so close by to Malaysia :)
@@FloraandNote I see anyway please come back to visit more often 😁
Rm50?😲
I hope Malaysia authority’s will take note on the unpleasant experience.
😂😂 If you know how their Prime Ministers scammed their people for over 60 years, you won't be writing this.
That old man didn't realized that he was videod...pls avoid that old man!!
We know we should have haggled. We were willing to pay rm50 for 30 mins but unfortunately it was only for 10mins 🫣
Only Ajinomoto in the Penang food.😂 😂😂
Penang is notthe food capitol of malaysia . I believe Ipoh is in the same category
no such price RM50,it should be RM15
You never come to Singapore?
It’s on our list to visit 😊
Thats it. Looking forward to see your video on Singapore!
