@@sara_khong Hi Sara, my apology. I just saw your message. Your video on KL Petaling Street food were quite detailed. I used to have my breakfast at Petaling street most of the time before moving off for my shopping at Bukit Bintang areas. For breakfast there is a store in one of the lane that sell wanton noodle and I always order an extra plate of roasted pork. One of my favorite is the fried black noodle at supper time. I still remember the 1st time I arrived in KL, coming off the recently-opened North-South Highway, in the evening, from Singapore in August, 1993, the city was SO DARK, There was no Petronas Towers, no Suria KlCC. no Mandarin Oriental, no Bukit Bintang, no massive shopping malls, and only a couple of newly built, modest office towers in the Golden Triangle; we stayed at the Imperial Hotel and for a little relaxation went across the street to the Hard Rock Cafe. where the band was terrible. During the four days in KL, we did go to some great restaurants and had some terrific food and I fell in love with the city. Hi Sara, how have you been? Just happened to watch your this video again. I was in KL Petaling Street this year July. Staying at KW Marriot. Had my favorite KL Hokkien mee there. Hope to go again next month.
Very informative video. Love your mom. My wife speaks Mandarin. Do most Chinese speak Cantonese in Malaysia? We hope to travel to Kuala Lumpur from the U.S. toward the end of the year. Looking forward to more of your videos to get information on the city and country.
Thank you. She would be happy to hear. What kind of information in the video that makes you feel that it's informative? I'll be sure to include those in future videos. It depends on the state. More people speak Cantonese in Kuala Lumpur. But in other states, Mandarin is more common. In Penang, a lot of people speak Hokkien. I will, stay tune!
@@sara_khong Your style of filming is very natural. It seems the viewer is walking along with you to stores and restaurants. The outside of the business is clear to see. Good description of the products. I especially liked when you stood at the corner in Chinatown and pointed out all the restaurants in view.

I'd very much like to enjoy it fresh and get the dried herbal packets so that I can make it back home. I hadn't any luck hitty all the Gwei-lou bloggers because they're not very savvy and keen about this excellent heavenly cool drink. Thanks again Sara for your videos, very inspiring, and I get a kick out of hearing you speak Cantonese and deciphering the subtle accent differences between my Cantonese accent. It's oddly refreshing😊

Mouth watering video. From the prices, it must be a quite awhile since I have been away from Bolehland, RM1.60 for a piece of Yong Tau Fu, RM10 for a small plate of Hokkien mee, I used to pay RM5/plate, on the other hand, if I were to convert to USD, US$2.50 get me very crappy fast food in most major U.S. cities. :)
Yes, things are getting more expensive. Mr. Lee said that in the olden days, Hokkien mee was sold in cents! Which is the most mouth-watering food to you?
@@sara_khong I love Hokkien mee, the good ones but I am more of a soupy person, so if I must choose just one, I'd go with the seafood noodle your mom mentioned that was sweet and fresh. Have you tried the Hokkien mee stall in Tengkat Tong Shin, next to Jalan Alor? I wonder if the Chinatown one that you went to is better. By the way, if your goal is to get millions of views for your videos, against my interest (I'd rather have eye candy as a bonus with your current format), I'd suggest checking out at least 2 massively successful RUclips cooking channels, those 2 RUclipsrs don't show their face, one of them doesn't even have to say a word! : ))
Your latest email has forced me to do a forensic examination of my memory. My first visit to KL, I stayed at the old Concorde Hotel and not the Imperial Hotel (that was subsequent visits); the Hard Rock Cafe, with that terrible band, was located in the Concorde's lobby. The Concorde was demolished about ten years ago. Also located in City Centre and now demolished, as well, was Hotel Istana; in the basement there was a great Chinese restaurant. I ate there every visit to KL, unfortunately I don't remember its name and there is no trace of the establishment online. As soon as the Mandarin Oriental opened up in 1997 I abandoned the dowdy rooms of the Imperial and began staying here. BTW, if you want to recommend to your viewers some great books on Malaysia, I would recommend "Red Star Over Malaya" by Cheah Boon Kheng and "A History Of Malaysia" by Barbara Watson Andaya. All are available at Kunakunya at KLCC Suria.
You seem to have truly fallen in love with Malaysia! I have not heard of these books. But shall check them out the next time I’m at Kinokuniya. You reminded me that I was planning to get Sapiens: A Graphic History. Have not heard of the Chinese restaurant. Also I remember Michael Jackson stayed at Concorde when he came to KL. All these info are a loooooong time ago

Curry Laksa: There are three stalls selling side by side. Which one to choose? I have a feeling Sara accidentally went to the third stalls by coincidence, or else Sara will be giving a narrative to avoid the other stalls or recommend the best. Perhaps, Sara is putting on an act, my appologies. It took me two weeks and five visits to identify the best stall for my taste bud, it is the third stall from the entrance arch. The lady boss for the third stall told me once, "I want to make the best curry laksa in town", she said it with a passion. I felt the vibration.
That was the same question I had. I heard that it’s either 2 or 3, or find the one with the longest queue. When I was there only 1 & 3 were open. So it was an easy choice. I spoke to the lady about the soup. She said it’s secret. Perhaps I should speak more to her next time. Thanks for sharing with me your story!
@@sara_khong I did some homework on the net and RUclips, it was not helpful to give me direction about a year ago.. Hence, ended up investigating. But now there are videos and recommendation on the 3rd stall. Most of the reviewers just went to one stall and start writing, without visiting all three to complete their mission. That is injustice. People would either choose 2nd or 3rd, not 1st.
@@kayellai5278 That's funny re: injustice 😂 I like how you take curry laksa so seriously. So you believe it's stall #3! Okay! I shall also do my own investigation next time. Maybe you'll see in future videos :)

Congratulations on your engagement-such a brief clip I almost missed that part! I love your videos, and when you have your mom with you 😄
Thank you for watching that far and taking the time to wish me. Showed my Mom your comment! instagram.com/stories/sarakhong/2534337975444458279?igshid=175jp7zzja5pl 😊
There’s also the wan tan mee and sui gow stall next to the raw fish porridge, as well as the ngow lam min (beef noodles) at Lai Foong, both Chinatown icons. Great job. Thanks
You know your stuff ;) Had wantan mee too before eating Apam. But I can’t recommend it anymore. Maybe it was popular but I feel it’s no longer the best. Atmosphere was not there either. Didn’t get to eat beef noodles; too hot to walk so far haha! But planning to do a video just on that one day. There are a few more food I want to cover. I think there will be part 2! :)
@@sara_khong Thanks for the filtering out those below average. It is a help.
Dear Sara, im jeneth from indonesia, i love seeing yr video in petaling street Kl, may i know when you visited, where you stay in hotel, what hotel? Thank you so much Dear Sara, im looking forward yr attention
Wow...I must visit here when I go visit KL. Miss the places. :D
Hey announce engagement so casually I nearly missed it. Congrats Sara. May everything go smoothly for you. Must post wedding video ah, ok.
Haha! That made me laugh. Casual kannn. Ok wait for wedding related food videos 😀
And thank you!
Cant wait to jalan2 food hunting at KL.
Best activity to do in KL! Where do you like to go besides Chinatown? Maybe I can make a video on it
Yong Tau Foo my favourite shop... must hv it once every month
You mean this particular shop? I used to eat YTF weekly!

Hi Sarah, congratulations on the engagement!!!! Love the ring! When is the wedding? Love your channel xx
Finally someone watches the full video haha! Thank you. Maybe I’ll vlog the wedding. It’ll be soon! You’ll see some of it hopefully
@@sara_khong Wow great, I wouldnt miss it for the world, I have been following your channel for a while now.. Cant wait to watch your wedding. There must be thousands who wants to be there with you
in person, most of all, Im sure your mum will be so happy and proud of you, she might even just shed a few happy tears lol All the best and much love xx
@@creepyhauntings9842, Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, it'll be just among immediate family and closest friends. That's why I thought of recording it. But I might be too nervous to say anything haha. I'll TRY! Thank you for your encouragement. My Mom is excited!
Thank you Sara Khong.
congratzzzz. this tour isn't complete without the obligatory hour long queue for Ho Kow next to the hotel hahah
Noooooo haha. Tooo long a queue. I did that once
when i was there, the fourpoint hotel in jalan sultan was on progress builded...
Wow! You understand Cantonese!!🎉🎉🎉😂
How do I make my own chilli for hokkien mee? Is there belacan inside?
I love da pau ... I was praying you will go into the shop ... 😭😭😭. .. all good I still love all the rest of the food 🤣🤣🤣🤣👍👍👍👍👍

I hope ur just the guest in Malaysia,, cos u miss must in Chinatown u won't regret in ur life ,,,,,
i want the crispy corner, waiting for freshly bake ones, buying for mummy, super nice
Hi Sara, don't mind sharing which hotel do you stay near Chinatown?
Sara, do you do paid food tours? I would happily pay for a tour so I can see where all these places are. It would be lots of fun for everyone. :)
You could call it : Sara Khong Food Tours
Has a nice sound to it. :)
I mainly teach cooking classes :) www.newmalaysiankitchen.com/cooking-class-kuala-lumpur/ But food tour is a good idea! What kind of food tour would you like?
Sara, u missed out the best Roast Duck in K.L (四眼仔烧鸭). One of my favorite.
So may people told me the same thing. I really have to go soon. Thank you for reminding me again :)

Congratulations 😊 @Sara
Thank you!
Dominic how to contact you? wish to use your videos for the hawkers. how to contact you?
@@sara_khong Haiyaaa, the secret is MSG
The curry laksa she had is the best laksa in the world. That curry laksa lady actually knows me.I hv had this curry laksa since i was a teenager.I am already in my 50's.😀
Hi Sarah, What vlog camera was on the table when you were eating yong tofu in the hotel room?
It's a gimbal!

I want to visit Malaysia. Is Cantonese the preferred Chinese dialect in Kuala Lumpur?
absolutely incredible Sara ... found a beautiful Nyonya wife in KL where the food, people, country are wonderful ... wish to be there now ... your blogs are beyond compare, create a huge amount of envy/jealousy - lol ... yes, the best food on this planet ... please continue with Mom of-course !!!
Hi Bruce. Thank you for the kind comment! Yes, I miss making videos with Mom. But I'll be making more with her soon :)
Well what Chinatown you talking about it is Petaling street. The Malaysian Chinese already developed Malacca (1511), and Seremban Sg Ujung (18century) , Kelang then KL in British era
*Welcome to Malaysia Truly Asia Good foods, rainforest good beach & others many More Enjoyed thanks for sharing very good videos*

Nice video! Brings back wonderful memories of the yummy food at Petaling Street. If you go again, try the Portuguese Grill Fish - it's opened for dinner and it's at the back of the Air Mata Kucing stall.
p/s - you should be careful, though, The Hokkien Mee uncle should not be talking to you with his mask down. Stay safe!!!
Yes! I was planning to go to cover a few places that many people mentioned, including the grill fish.
What else do you recommend?
Ok I will. Thank you. At the time I was filming the video, cases was very low. I was so sure then that this will be over. Alas...
I know im asking randomly but does anybody know a way to log back into an instagram account??
I stupidly forgot my account password. I love any tricks you can give me.

Dear sara, fyi,the porridge and chee cheong fun stall is Yooi Kee, not hon kee ya.
Hi Esther, thank you for letting me know. I have already made correction at the description box. Unfortunately it's too late to edit the video now. This calls for another trip to Petaling Street and another video!
@@sara_khong thanks sara
Great Video. Would be good if you could include the date of the place visited and the price of the food item ordered as information. Thanks.
As in the day/ opening hours? I did include the price at the end. Would you like something more specific?
@@sara_khong Nope. Is the day you visited the food stall/hawker date so that at least we know if the price is the current. As we all know, all food cost has gone up sky rocket high price and those goodies and delicious choices as show on your video clips is so tempting and nice BUT it is also a good info to know if it is affordable or cost reasonable. Hope that clarify. Thanks
@@andrewlim6405 Ah! Understood. This was just last week. So it's still current.
@@sara_khong Thanks Sara and Congratulation. Just noticed the recent video do have price indicated which is good information of the current street food price. Just a recommendation, you should also explore IPOH town street food and there is one very popular egg tart shop you/your mom might be interested to try out. But of course IPOH is very popular when comes to street food stalls too. Just a recommendation only. Cheers.
