Richard Mille adds slowly to its catalog of blockbuster luxury watches, and this year’s Earth-shaker is the RM 53-01 Tourbillon Pablo Mac Donough. The polo-themed watch is dedicated to the brutally harsh sporting vocation of its Argentine namesake. As the second Richard Mille RM 53 Pablo Mac Donough timepiece after the 2012 RM 53, the RM 53-01 combines the older watch’s tourbillon and durability with the iconic Richard Mille tonneau case form. TPT carbon fiber is part of the solution. The advanced composite is nearly indelible to marks and resolutely resists shattering. A laminated sapphire crystal resists fractures and spits, but even if completely decimated by blows, its compound structure resists shattering. The RM53 caliber is a manual-wind tourbillon with 70 hours of power reserve. Its twin grade-5 titanium base plates cradle the tourbillon, and all of this is suspended by 10 pulleys and two steel wires that help to inure the Richard Mille RM 53-01 Tourbillon Pablo Mac Donough from up to 5,000g instantaneous force. 50-metrers water resistant, the RM 53-01 isn’t a diver, but it is safe for swimming per Richard Mille representatives. Argentine blue is the dominant accent color of the dial and strap of the Richard Mille RM 53-01 Tourbillon Pablo Mac Donough. The strap itself is a textile with leather trim and a sensible Velcro strap rather than buckle or clasp for easy access and absolute security during polo matches. The Richard Mille RM 53-01 Tourbillon Pablo Mac Donough will be a 30-piece limited edition priced at $900,000 U.S
