- We had several problems getting our new @GrandDesignRVTV Grand Design Reflection fifth wheel - some were mistakes we made, but the big mistake was? It was the wrong RV!
We specifically wanted a 2024 Grand Design Relection 303RLS with the latest features- why else buy new?
But when we got to General RV in Jacksonville? it didn't have those features.

Like others, what happened to the family run RV place from the last video. General RV has been the subject of unscrupulous dealings in the past. Good luck, and good on you for standing your ground.
I think they knew and was trying to slip the old flex frame design by you and then you realize after you bought it that’s it not the right year. So they can clean out there 2023 models. Bottom line they should have caught that. Not you. Remember that

What happened to the dealership you were going to in the last video? If you switched to save a couple of bucks that was your mistake. Relationship is worth $$. We shopped ours, but ended up going with a local owner dealer versus driving 5 hours to Lazy Daz even though they were cheaper. So glad we did! No long drive, personalized service, dealing directly with the owner, and PDI was great. A good dealer and service team will catch and fix everything before you arrive.

It did seem a little odd didn’t it?
Wow, just wow! Did you even watch the video? Where was there any reference the General was proactive trying to pull something over on them or discouraging them from day prior. As Larry noted, it was 100% on him as didn't do a day prior walkthrough of a sight unseen rig and his oversite. Further, at the conclusion of the video there were further accolades of not only General but the staff involved up to the manager. If they were trying to pull a fast one as you allude, none of that dialog would exist and would probably be going anywhere else next week.
@@larrygray1557you missed it, right at the beginning he said he was discouraged from doing a day before walk through. They were caught & chose to make good. Or whoever discouraged him did think for a minute that the wrong rig was pulled. So no double check was done by the dealer. This is the start to their busy season so stuff slips through the cracks.

Even though I went to see the unit I negotiated on a couple of days before I was going to take delivery and found several small things that needed to be fixed before I picked it up. Then when I went to pick it up, they still had not fixed one of the items. They wanted me to take delivery and then bring it back. I said no, fix it then I will come back. Took 2 days, to get the final items fixed. Once I was happy with everything, I then took delivery. Don’t ever take delivery when you know there is something that needs to be fixed or is not right!

I would go to a different dealer. Sounds like they are trying a switch and bait deal. Can't tell me they didn't know the difference between the 2 years. When we bought our boat they had a mid year change, called us to let us know and told us the upgrades they were going to do and gave us the next year model for the same price with the upgrades.

I think you guys did the right thing by waiting for the right rig you wanted. I learned with my previous 5er that had windows on the slide ends on the website photo however when I went to pick the rig up was informed they use stock photos on the website. I dealt with the lack of windows BUT knowing now that the updates are done during the year and changes are made you must be very diligent. Best of luck with your new rig.

Hadn't heard from DMC for a minute. Glad everything was still okay with you.. I drove 5hrs to do a walk through. They had everything ready including the paperwork. When I told them I had to sleep on it they were a little upset. I reminded them I had another 5hrs to get home. I did return the following weekend to pick it up.. thanks DMC

You’re paying good money, get exactly what you want. I have friends who bought from that location and the service was horrible, please be careful. I have decided on a Brinkley Z 3100 just trying to find a dealer I feel like I can trust, best of luck to you. Get it inspected by an outside inspector please!

FWIW, I tried using “small” dealers, including Couch, for my purchase but the communication was abysmal on top of the price being >10% more. So don’t blame ya with going with a large dealer.

That happened to us when we purchased our 278bh. There was an option for theater seating instead of a dinette which we paid for and the unit that arrived had the dinette. It was on the build sheet (GD fault)so we had to wait 2 months for a new one. Glad you only had to wait 3 days!! Can't wait till next week!! Good LUCK

you did exactly what i would have done. as a matter of fact, i refused delivery on our first 5th wheel because on the day of pickup they were not going to include the dyson vacuum cleaner that was advertised. they finally took one from another model and we went through with the deal. hold your ground, get what you expected!

Glad you caught the difference. One point, I've heard quite a few negative comments regarding General RV. So please be careful and read carefully, double and triple check any documents you sign. Especially any loan documents if your going that route.

We're buying a Class C motorhome. We signed the paperwork at the Tampa RV show and we have already gotten the first loan statement in the mail. We haven't even picked up the motorhome yet! Our trade-in is still in storage. The dealer told us we don't need insurance yet, but that makes me too nervous. In addition, the bank statement said if we don't get insurance then they will get it for us and it will end up costing us more. I bought the insurance, so now I'm paying on two rigs. So frustrating. April, when my RV is released from storage, can't come soon enough!

General did that to us also, we bought a 2023 Forest River and ended up with a late model 2022. Fortunately they didn't make any major changes and the Goodyear tire that come on the 2023 were put on our unit before we bought it.

I enjoy these videos as we were going to buy an RV years ago but changed our minds (we are now Holiday Inn campers). Anyway I am amazed at the total incompetency of this entire industry. What we would have done is dealt with the family dealership that had exactly what you wanted and were so kind to have everything set up for you. From what you all shared they were very descent folks; going to another dealer was not good on your part. That’s what you did wrong.

Well, you probably have your new rig by now (this video went out before your "2.0"). RV purchasing is different from anything else! I believe purchasing a home is easier. I was a seasoned RV buyer, and even with youtube help, I would have done things differently. Don't have enough comment room or time for all that, but I hope you could film (or describe the "signing" function and the loading. GRV didn't help me at all (71, Florida, July, open area, first time ever hitching a 5th wheel), primarily because I did not buy the hitch from them. I am mainly curious how you handled the extended warranty pitch and your resulting decision. Spot on about recommending a short shake down camp. Helped us tremendously! Good Luck!
Larry. The warranty with them was about $9,000. 😳but they pitch it as an extra &50 a payment 🤔

Life is short! Buy what you want, which you did! My experience is that a discount isn't enough to overcome the long-term disappointment of what you could and should have had originally.

OK I just looked at the Jacksonville location and yes out of the 2024’s, one shows a kickplate the other one does not. Unfortunate situation, hopefully they get it sorted for you and get you the right unit without charging you more.

We bought a camper from General RV in 2021. When we arrived to pick it up our last name was stuck on the outside of the rig. I explained to the receptionist that we were there to pick it up and I pointed to the rig (it was the same one we'd looked at originally). They said no, that's not the one you're getting. Took us to the lot and there was a different refrigerator in it. I got money taken off but it turned out that it had the wrong size leaf springs installed. I've always wondered if we should have insisted on the one we looked at first.

Oh no..thats too bad. good catch though. Those toe stubber floors are bad. By the way...check that they use Pex not just red and blue tubing. We had a Momentum next to us in Texas that had to re-plumb because GD used red an blue "hose" tubing...NOT pex.
Unfortunately, many RVs don’t use Pex - even the Brinkley we toured. Larry will upgrade the plumbing at some point.

What did they do exactly?
If possible, can you order your 303RLS - we ended up ordering ours and picked the exact options we wanted. Price-wise it was cheaper at the time (June 2020 for us) than picking one from the lot. Ours was one of the first with the new interiors (and the last few before they went to the white Fiberglass color) that started late 2020 for a 2021 model. I can understand if you need to get one ASAP ... at the time we got 30% off of the MSRP ... had we picked on on the lot, we would not have had factory slide toppers and the cost would have been a few thousand more.
You did exactly what we would have done. Unless they offered a really good discount and the rig had everything you wanted and your inspection turned up no issues - sounds like the toe-kick was the 'kicker' :)

When we did our inspection I found an issue with the tank heaters (fuse holder needed to be squeezed a little) and one of outlet covers was cracked. I told them I would take care of those small items. Otherwise everything was perfect - they had all systems running so we could test everything. The only issue I saw (and again told them not to mess with) was the bedroom floor made some noise when walking on it - like the wood was not all the way on the framing near the bed.
I crawled in the front storage and saw where it was making noise - I later used a small shim to stop the noise, but it keeps returning from time to time - unit is now 4 years old and I don't worry about it (although hopefully it is not frame flex - just kidding ;)
I prefer to fix things myself even when new (unless they are serious issues). Owning a camper is all about knowing how to make repairs.

Any problem ordering and then not wanting it abs stuck with it? Plus, ordering would take much longer.
We have to move all our stuff - including upgrades - from the old RV to the new one. We just didn’t want to rush getting new RV ready for our 6 month trip

I am excited for you - BTW - you are definitely going to enjoy a slightly smaller but much more maneuverable (ie: lighter) 5th wheel. We originally had a 32' 5th wheel and I could put it almost in any spot. Going from our prior 40 footer to a 34 footer has been great.
I probably would have seen if theyd have given a substantial discount and considered it. But if the toe kick was a big thing and the stairs I'd have just waited like you guys did. Hey you want what you want, right? 💕👍

We have a Montana that looks almost exactly like the one you were looking at, and it has the toe kick in the slide for the kitchen and the TV and it doesn’t bother us at all. It’s no hindrance at all for us.

While we bought our Solitude from General RV in Michigan and had a very good experience, warranty work in Jacksonville was horrible. We lied to a number of times. Maybe things gave changed but I’d never go there. Outright deceit. Sorry to mention this but good luck. Larry trust your intuition and be careful.

Listening to there deal would have been a waste of time, only because you didnt want that model.
I would be looking for 250$ - 300$ worth of something you need. Reason being all the fuel & time waisted.
We were surprised at General RV at Tampa show...lucky maybe...but the fella we had taking us thru a couple toy haulers was not pushy and new his stuff with reguards to what we were looking at.

When we purchased our Northern Spirit it was October. In between negotiating the final price they got in the same model but next years edition. They offered the new edition for same price. Even parked them sis by side for us to compare. New model had different graphics, 12v fridge and fewer electrical outlets. Otherwise the same. We chose the older model.
That dealer was trying to do you dirty!

@DownsizingMakesCents my brother lives there and we thought we would visit them once we got the RV. I'm a bit jaded towards them for sure, but had you not caught the mistake they would have gladly let you roll out of there with that RV, and when you discovered the problem after the fact, good luck. Just be SUPER cautious with those bozos! We used Matt as well, even was on his channel from the RV show, he wasn't much help either.

You did the right thing. It wasn't the right rig. This happened to us once too a few years ago at a different dealer. We bought our current rig at General RV, mainly because of the good price. The rig needed some repairs including removing a huge stain on the wall. Remembering our last buying experience, before we left, I put a small piece of paper in a drawer with my name on it, so we would be sure to get the same rig. Didn't really need to because when we drove back 11 days later, the trailer hadn't been touched. The stain was still there, and none of the other repairs were done, so I knew it was the same rig. I was mad because it was a 4-hour drive for nothing. RV dealers are the worst when it comes to how they run their businesses and their customer service.
Wow. Sorry to read this. The whole industry needs an overhaul.
If more customers demanded better, they would have to do better.

All I can say is it’s a production year issue. I have a 2021 by model year however it’s a 2020. We had to drive 500 miles to see one in person. I can understand if it was made Nov or Dec but in my case May 2020 and it was sold as a 2021.
