- "What's the best fifth wheel" or "What RV would YOU get?" are questions I see pretty much daily. My answer to that really varies based on the "style" of camping someone might be looking at.
So with that in mind I've compiled a few of my personal favorite models for different circumstances like couple's camping or family traveling & plenty of others. I'm by no means say "THESE are the BEST RVs out there!" But rather simply sharing a few that are the best for me and my family as I happen to see them!
I'd love to know what you think of my picks. And please share a few of your own. Perhaps there's something I need to see a little more closely!

That Paradigm 382RK makes me want to sell the house and start driving laps around the nation. Wow!
Yeah it’s a great destination rig for sure
My husband and I have had our drv 40kssb4 for 7 years now, and we love everything except the gvwr. We've had to add extra leaf springs to our dually. This is our fifth fifth wheel and also our favorite.
Those are big rigs for sure
I wished the Brinkley made it in a dropped frame. We really loved the look of the Brinkley, but we thought the TV was to high, storage isn’t enough and wide body is our preference. The Paradigms have been hit and missed recently. We just looks at them again this past weekend, and the 3 we looked at all had shoddy workmanship. We decided the Geand Design Solitude was the one for us. Every Grand Design we’ve toured have been exceptionally made, and the attention to detail was on point. I think Brinkley’s will be just as Grand as the Grand Designs🙌🏼
TY For sharing. Just went thru a few new solitudes recently and was similarly impressed with what I saw
I love the Brinkley 3500 G too. It's an amazing rig I saw it in Tampa this year. The price stopped us dead in our tracks.
Lol yeah. All the amazing features comes with an amazing price
It’s ONLY that much 😆
As a Grand Design owner for 5 years, which I really love our 303rls. However.......wowza in ❤ with the interiors of the Brinkley! Blows all others away.
I actually FINALLY got a chance to put my hands on a 303RLS and will have video for it coming :)
Love our 303rls and would never NOT have a campside slide out in ANY future trailer. The size is perfect for almost every state and national park we’ve tried to fit into and we slept three teenage nieces into as well 😄
I really do like Brinkley’s interior but something about the exterior paint just doesn’t jive with me 🤷♀️
I can not stop watching videos about RVs. Your the best dude out here giving reviews thanks Bub
wow TY for the kind words!
Josh, brother, this is why I follow you & your presentations, because not only are you the encyclopedia of presenters, but your honesty is something I've been able to count on every time!
This list idea is a great idea, in my opinion, and I would like to see more! This list is a real look at a wide range of units, and saving the best to the last, brilliant!
Thank you for all you do, carry on doing what you love, we, the consumer, are the winners everything, again, thank you brother!👍
I appreciate that! I actually think it’s about high time. I work up an updated list for 2024.
Brinkley is my ultimate goal! The only thing missing is a dishwasher. I'm willing to get a countertop one and with this model there is more than enough space for it lol! Storytime: my husband and I were driving the other day and we saw an RV for sale that he excitedly pointed out. I then proceeded to tell him the pros and cons of the RV and before I could even finish with my information, he called me an RV Nerd! lol I blame you!!!! #NerdHerd
Hahaha
Same.
Brinkley or bust!
Wendy, all RV consumers need to stick together regarding units being pushed on us by unscrupulous manufacturers, salespeople and dealers. I urge you to reconsider any decision to purchase a Brinkley or Alliance. I feel if you look closely at these two, you will find that they do not produce any original engineering or design practices for components or whole rigs. They both plagiarize the work of actual mechanical, automotive or electrical engineers of companies like Forest River/Rockwood or Jayco.Question: What do you call the research and development departments of Brinkley or Alliance? Answer: The Keystone Innovation Lab. Alliance and Brinkley (and Grand Design to good measure) copy any new or better component from Keystone. This saves them money because they don't have to pay for any engineers or designers on their own payroll. You don't need to take my advice. It is offered as a word of caution to a fellow RVer. Best wishes for a great RV Summer.
Man that Brinkley!!! Def my pipe dream especially since I would need a toyhualer floor plan for our large family Keep coming with all the fun videos and tips!
TY :)
Absolutely love our Rockwood 2445WS. Perfect for me and my husband and so far not a single issue!
Love hearing it! Ty
Hey Josh, wanted to give you shout and say thank you for what you do! The wife and I started out years ago with a Jayfeather 27RL and worked our way to our current rv, a 22 Pinnacle 32RLTS, and it was following your videos and listening to your wisdom that led us to choose this model. We love it and are very happy with it. Thank you again for the topnotch content, youare helping a lot of people make good choices and dodge bad ones.
The Rockwood fifth wheel you showed today is same layout like we had before. Pulled it with diesel 350. Want to get a smaller , so can b pulled with gas half ton gas ⛽ $ of gas is factor. Couple 26 ft. Layout will be factor😮.. Love East West with murphy bed was perfect! Didn't catch #..
Look at the #'s on your gas trucks BEFORE you swap RVs. My F350 CCLB with the 7.3L and 4:30 gears will haul anything Rockwood makes easily and safely. Gas trucks are quietly getting much more capacity while diesels are as well.. with a lot less $$ to buy and maintain your gasser.
I got really excited when I saw the first Brinkley. I think I saw it here. The only thing I have written them about was that dreaded floor vent in the bathroom. Especially when they had it behind the toilet. They should never be anywhere around a toilet. I didn't see one in this one but it was hard to tell. 🙂
Josh, I have watched your TT and 5th selection. So far, you’ve got a home run going on!!!! I hope you do one for truck campers too. And if it is possible, please do these every year for new RV’s each year. Great job!!!!
TY :)
I don't know if I see enough truck campers to even be able to populate a list like this but I appreciate the suggestion
Thank you! We are in the market and trying to determine what we need for our family. Your reviews are always beneficial! I love the Eagle 29.5 BHDS. However, we have a half-ton, and we will need to upgrade our truck.
You are so welcome! Glad to be of service
Love the cougar. Washer, dryer prep, North to south bed which is nice for cpap users and shower with the seat. My only complaint is the windshield in the bedroom. I’m not a fan of that. It’s on our short list though.
I love your videos Josh!! So informative and detailed!! Keep up the great work!! # Nerd herd.
When I first saw that 290RLS I actually kinda didn't "get it." But, as I learned more about features and the lifestyle I realized how good of a model it actually was
Mmm, this is my jam!
Thanks Josh.
Enjoy!
I like your suggestions, as always on point. I am surprised I didn’t see a Keystone Montana, you are always excited when you review this Rv; well more so then usual 😆
I do really like montana RVs but they aren't quite yet the ideal fit for me and my current personal use preferences. Perhaps one day?
Very enjoyable as always. I don't know if there are enough entries to make a category, but in the 5th wheel world a bath and a half would be appreciated. For some of us "mature" types, a half bath on the main floor would come in very handy. We've had our 316RLS a couple of years now and after a number of extensive trips, that is the thing we end up thinking would make our rig "perfect".
There are certainly more of them now but often the same floor plans over and over like a front living or front bath with a half bath included
@@JoshtheRVNerd True that. One thing, front living (for the reasons I described) is a non-starter. Just my opinion. and thanks again Josh for all your hard work.
Josh this was great... keep it up. Love watching your videos. Better if I had a hat??? Just saying my friend.
Have a great fourth.
I keep hearing "merch will be ready soon" from my team. We were supposed to have it done like... 6 months ago lol
Other priorities have come up a few times
I do not like east-west bed slides for the simple reason that I have yet to see one that provides an adequate night stand. I do not require a cpap machine (at least, not yet). But like many folks, I do need night table space for my water glass, cell phone, tablet and "stuff." The large night stands provided by Keystone, Jayco, and Rockwood in their mid-profile 5thWs with North-South oriented bedrooms draw my attention for potential purchase. Plus, these three manufacturers are more reliable than any plagiarized slapdash model from Brinkley or Alliance.
Yeah, that is the irony of them. They actually limit space around the bed and give you more space at the foot of the bed. I’ve almost kind of shifted back from Lakyn about slides to preferring a north-south bed arrangement with side stands myself.
very cool thanks Josh
You bet!
K-Z Durango Half Ton 290RLT… It’s the little secret I found that allows you to sleep a family of 6 comfortably without having to buy a bunkhouse RV, have seating for everyone, large kitchen, with all the modern comforts (18cu ft fridge, 440w solar, inverter, tankless wh, w/d prep, frameless windows, dual 15k AC) and still be under 35 ft for easy camping in State parks.
I'll have to watch for one. TY
@@JoshtheRVNerd obviously it’s nothing other brands haven’t already done before, just think it’s a great alternative to a bunkhouse if you have older kids that may or may not continue glamping with you and you’re not stuck with a empty bunkhouse or the need to purchase a more couples focused model.
We love the Paradigm 385FL... currently selling our house to purchase and live for 6 months a year!
Nice rig!
Having been an RV'er for 15 years, hauling a 37 ft. 5'ver with 700 watts of solar and 300 amps of battery. I can tell you that the Brinkley rig, being a toy hauler is made for going out and setting up for a week or two of using 4 wheelers, or dirt bikes. You will definably need a 1 ton dually to haul it.
You'll also need triple the solar, and triple the amperage to run your stuff, especially that double door, residential fridge. Washing clothes will use a ton of water, and drying them will use a ton of your amps. (anything that heats pulls a ton of amps) The shelves in the bedroom is not a good idea because everything will be falling off them as you drive down the road. Remember if it's cloudy or raining your not doing much charging. We carry a Honda 3000i generator that we use to top off the batteries in the evening for about 45 mins. and again in the morning when making coffee, and breakfast and topping off the batteries for the day. Best rule of thumb for solar is: For every 100 amps of battery you should have 300 watts of solar. When you camp in the mountains and the sun has to clear the mountains in the morning you may not get any charging till 10 or 11 am. And if it goes down in the afternoon by 4, or 5 pm behind mountains you have a short day of charging. That's when the generator comes in handy. Oh, and don't park under trees if you need to charge.😋
My credentials: Electrical Engineer
Oh for sure. Dually minimum on those model G’s
Great stuff 👍 thanks for sharing. ✌ 🇺🇲 GOD bless America 🇺🇲
Glad you enjoyed it
The Paradigm is a beautiful unit. I love the natural fireplace in the Jayco. The Brinkley is the top. My only concern is the width. We just traveled through Denver, and if we had a unit wider than our Grand Design 2910bh, there would have been an accident. When we are competing with semi trucks, crazy drivers & other rvs, it gets to be nail-biting time. Love Brinkley's colors and quality.
The brinkley Model Z series is 8ft wide just like your imagine. It's only the toy haulers that are bigger currently
Superbe caravane
Josh, I currently own and enjoy a Rockwood 8299BS. Looking to down size, I love the bedroom of the 2442BS, but want the living/kitchen of the 2445WS (full access while in travel mode). I wonder if I'm the only one, or is there enough others who would appreciate this hybrid of the 2 models? Asked Forest River, and was told they don't do custom builds. If enough people contacted Forest River, maybe they might consider such a change. Right now the 2445WS best fit my needs. Thanks for your many videos on the options out there.
you're not alone
Hey Uncle Josh, Tex here, proud member of the Nerd Hurd. Another fine video. I’m not an owner of a camper/RV, never have; however I am considering it. Perhaps when I retire in less than 6 years. I use your channel as well as BTBRV, RV Wingman, Dr. Hannah, and RV Inspection Care Guide as research to help me decide on what I may want to purchase. Can I make a couple of suggestions for a couple of videos (or shorts)?
1) Do a video on the best way to rent an RV? These units are expensive. I believe that you are genuine when you want people to do their homework first and that you truly are looking out for our wallets. I believe that the best way for potential newbies such as myself is to rent the different types first prior to buying. If we enjoy the experience then that would lead to future sales for the industry.
2) Could you do either a full length or short video that describes what all the different model letters means?
Thank you.
Hey Tex! TY for the ideas..
"Best way to rent an RV" - I like that idea but we don't do a lot of that here anymore so I'm not well attuned to it.
Model Numbers? I got you right here actually! ruclips.net/video/53Aw_llnVuo/видео.html
#nerdherd
I do like the Brinkley alot. The Northpoint and Alliance are great too! I think I would have the Cedar Creek on my list. Just like the way they are built. Also the Riverstone. Thanks for the video as always! Hope you are having a great weekend!!!
Good choices!
@@JoshtheRVNerd Thanks! Good choices for you too! Josh...could you do a review on the new mid bunk Alliance Paradigm and the KZ Durango Gold mid bunk with back patio? Thank you for all you do! I really respect your opinion and want to see what you think about them both.
The 382RK is my top choice for full time living with my wife in a few years.
is that the paradigm? Great model!
@@JoshtheRVNerd yes, But I’m kind of getting partial to the 385FL for its rear storage capacity . Wish they could get that on the RK but …🤷.
I wish more of the RV industry will start changing the colors in the cabinetry because not everyone likes the dark browns
If I had the money I would buy the BRINKLEY 350G toy hauler
Brinkley put thought into their RVS deals like the pullout pantry, trash pullout, paper towels holder into a drawer, the pullout in the bathroom, and the loft is in the garage side like it should be
Too bad it’s tooo expensive 😢
Have owned 2 Jaycos, a forest river, a sporttek and a Grand design reflection. The GD has been by far the most reliable one I have owned.
Appreciate the insights from an actual owner!
I'm disappointed that the Brinkley z3100 didn't make the list. We all know that the quality is really the best out there. Many of the ones on your list are not warranty for full time living which to me says the manufacturer has no confidence in their products. I realize you can't really bash manufacturers, but for a best list, quality should really be on major factor since lots of the floor plans are similar to each other. I still enjoy your channel. Can't wait to get my Brinkley Z3100 this week!
It's not easy taking an entire industry and breaking it down to a few limited personal preferences. Plenty of RVs could certainly do the trick.
But your list could certainly look differently from my own or the next person's!
Love the Brinkley Toy Hauler. The use of space is something you don't see. I got a chance to do a factory tour, amazing. I would like to see a couples toy hauler from Brinkley. Something 37' with the separate garage. Then empty nesters can bring all the toys.
Isn't that kinda what this one is? ruclips.net/video/gzNom3fci94/видео.html
I just bought my Cougar 29bhl. I really like it. But I discovered something you should add to your checklist for testing, a gallon of milk test. I discovered that I had to remove my fridge door to move my shelf to place a gallon jug upright. The door wouldn’t open far enough to adjust the shelf.
Oh wow Ty for the info
The Rockwood bunk house was my choice but we ended up finding a used Montana high country. The Montana is only a foot longer but 2,000 lbs heavier dry. Just crazy the quality between the two. Now I just have to buy a bigger truck 🤣🤦♂️
Quality difference in which way?
Thanks for the video. Great stuff. I've been looking at 5th wheels but quickly came across the issue that my 2015 Ram 2500 Megacab has a payload of 1850. 5th wheels appear to be out of the question. Looking at Jayco Eagle 330 RSTS for similar features. Uncle Josh, got any other suggestions 5th wheel or travel trailer?
With that layout? Try a cougar 33RLI, reflection 315rlts
Jay flight has some similar stuff
What is the difference between Cougar and Sprinter fifth wheels? Both Keystone. Thanks!
You should do a video on the alliance 295mk. Think that’s a very nice and small 5th wheel for couples.
I'm happy to continue expanding my coverage of their catalog for sure
As I recall that's just a slightly condensed version of this one ruclips.net/video/n4-iET8cRFI/видео.html
How about your TOP 5 trailers for poor people/fixed income. Solo or couples.
I could easily downsize to the Cougar MLE.
That thing is so good 😊
When you’re 6 foot eight and you want to be able to walk around in the trailer unfortunately Durango gold 358 RPQ I is the only trailer that I can use. Unfortunately I don’t have choice 30 x 48” shower king size bed my head doesn’t hit the ceiling in the bathroom or the bedroom I wish I had more choices. I love your show I was into it learn a lot.
Cedar creeks are pretty good about headroom. Not sure what their upper deck height is exactly but their low profile air units on the roof allow them to build up a taller ceiling inside
The Alliance, North Point and Cougar floorplans were over the top luxurious and residential👍but I think you forgot to include the best selling 5th wheel brand Montana😮
These were just a few of my personal picks based on how I'd use them. Your list could look quite differently from mine or the next person's!
Josh, You mentioned in previous videos about not being able to use towable couch/dinette slides while they are in. How does that work with these closet slides? doesn't a filled closet slide have that problem of weight on the floor?
They’re fine as long as you use them as intended
Using storage thats intentionally supported is different than sitting and standing on the unsupported interior edge of a slide
@@JoshtheRVNerd thanks for clarifying, I appreciate it.
Josh, what are your favorite rear living fifth wheels with flush floor kitchen slides instead of the toe stubber slides?
With the current model change I'm not sure which brands are adopting what slide systems. This is a big narrow focused for me to have a list prepared.
What I can tell you are brands to look at though
Alliance, North Point/Pinnacle, Brinkley all do opposing floor flush slides
I think Solitude does and Reflection MIGHT be adopting it
We just bought a 2023 North Point 310RLTS which is perfect for my wife and I.
Congrats! Hope it treats you well!
@JoshtheRVNerd Yes, we are hoping for it, hoping that this will be the last one for a long time, thank you sir and keep doing what you doing.
Josh- Can you help us out. We are looking at RVs and like Keydtone. What is the difference between Cougar and Sprinter fifth wheels? Both from Keystone. Thanks Josh!
Construction is similar. It’s largely floor plans and features
🇺🇸 *LOVE this 5th wheel list* !! *My favorite is the Eagle* !! #JoshTheRVNerdAtBishsRV 🇺🇸.
Ty Susan!
What kind of rv do you have Josh? Not hypothetically, what do you actually camp in?
None currently. Mostly have enjoyed 264BH jay flights
@Josh, can you do this with all the styles of toy haulers?
Possibly but I'm so far behind right now and really am not sure I even see enough toy haulers regularly to feel qualified to wade into that segment.
One style I haven’t seen yet (I don’t know if it exists) is an rv for the nomadic family (has a bunk house and folds up to an on the road functional layout) with a King size bed and a shower head in the bathroom for the 6’ average family. Does such a thing even exist?
Can you clarify what you mean by “folds up?”
Was that referencing bunks folding or slide closing?
Ember might do a bit of both in some of their trailers
Hard to have slides + good travel access in a bunkhouse model
Regarding the Brinkley G3500, I only have one complaint is that I need a seat in the shower due to physical issues.
That would be an extra $1000. please ...
They’re Prepped for it! I cover that in my factory tour
#nerdherd That Cougar 290RLS is speaking my language...
Yeah when that one first came out I didn't "Get it"
It felt like just some over inflated Cougar 29RLI from their "Half Ton" series.
But as I finally got a chance to go thru it everything kinda started making sense to me. And over this past year I grew to appreciate it more and more.
Josh. Question Can i pull a Heartland Milestone 321 FL with a 2015 GMC 3500 SLE 6.0 Gas Flex Fuel Truck Long Bed Crew Cab? Appreciate all your video s and learning from you. I Just get confused on the hitch weight and all the other Gvw and gcvw stuff . There will be no washer dryer and my truck bed will be empty and it will be stationary for a few months at a canpground if i can pull it.
Apologies without specific truck ratings I cannot say with confidence. There are so many truck configurations I cannot definitively reference the ratings of your vehicle from the info provided
@@JoshtheRVNerd thanks for responding big guy. From my research I think the truck can carry 14600 on a fifth wheel the dry weight of the camper is 10500 or so I guess we will see if I purchase the camper. Can't believe how complicated this is. To know for sure. So knowing the truck exact model and the camper is not enough. What are truck ratings. ?
@@bho8906 you need to compare several things in theory but two major ones:
First, you want to compare that FW tow rating on the truck to the GVW of the rv - not the dry weight. That ensures you stay safe even when loaded
You also want to compare the hitch weight of the rv vs the payload rating on your vehicle. Here’s a video explaining more on that as well as a quick way to estimate loaded hitch weight of the rv with pretty fair accuracy: m.ruclips.net/video/NiB6-4FLryU/видео.html
@@JoshtheRVNerd Thanks Josh. You have a lot of fans who appreciate you. And your videos.
Curious if you have noticed improvements on quality across the board since production has dropped and competition has increased?
During that time I’ve seen fewer shipments and don’t feel I have a good enough bead on the state of things just yet
Thanks Josh. For me, the Forest River brands just like fit and finish as well as lack of attention to detail. I won't buy one of their products based on my experience with their products.
I would mention that each forest river brand is basically independent from the others. There are likely plenty that fit what you've described. But that doesn't mean they all do
Have you reviewed the KZ Durangos??
I’ve not really had the opportunity but I hope to sometime
@@JoshtheRVNerd I think a lot of people would appreciate it.
Your reviews and factory tours are way better than others.
Ish would you please talk about tires on new RVs. What is a china bomb. I just bought a new 2022 Catalina and feel I got taken advantage of and because of what I am hearing about cheap tires on new RVs iam afraid to take it out until I buy new tires.
I dislike that phrase greatly. The two major problems with import tires are people failing to inflate them properly and overdriving their speed ratings
It’s all clearly indicated in owners documents but people ignore it, don’t use them properly, and then report loudly when they fail
Are there better tires available for a lot of rvs? Certainly
But when used properly all rv tires have to exceed the demands of the rv by 10%
@@JoshtheRVNerd thank you for your insight greatly appreciated 👍
Should have fifth wheels on categories more top 5's

If Brinkley's looking for someone to test that rig out for 10 years, let em know I'm willing. #Nerdherd
haha so generous :)
What about a retired couple who carries e-bikes but doesn’t want them on the back on a bike rack
Some thing with a drop frame could work, or potentially a cargo bunk model. Another option that can possibly work as one of those big Rubbermaid style totes for Folding ebikes you can use to store it in the RV in transit.
Do you have a dealer in Ga.
Currently we do not. Our nearest store would be in Anderson, Indiana just outside of Indianapolis... which obviously isn't THAT close to you
Thank you
Please tell them to get conversational seating (2 couches). Almost Every toy hauler under 40ft has that annoying long-long couch
The sad thing is everything made from 2020 to 2023 is pretty much junk. Our Rv shops are full of new rigs getting things fixed or replaced and are backed up for months because of it. How do you sell a brand new Jayco class c and forget to put the control panels in them? That’s right, not one single breaker box or slide switch.
that awesome transition to a 'used car salesman' bit 30 seconds in...

Nerd Herd
Shocked not one of these are a Grand Design. Reason?
GD is a great company. You'll see I've recorded quite a few and I do really like/respect what they're doing. But for how I personally camp and the things I seek there seems to often be something else I'd personally gravitate towards.
Your list or the next person's could look totally different
Uhhh, Haylett RV?..
Yep. That video had been around for a while back before my home store joined with Bish's RV.
You may not have been aware of that history
@@JoshtheRVNerdAre you regurgitating old video then, or was that just a slip of the tongue?
You lost me with the toy hauler. Not my jam.
I'm not a hauler-person myself. But the features on that Model G are pretty crazy and I found it very exciting to go thru.
If the Brinkley toy hauler had a full bath in the garage like some of the others, then I would totally go for that.
